- Chapter 5 - I Already Have Someone I'm Marrying
Bo Jianyan wasn’t usually the type to enjoy browsing Weibo.
However, he couldn’t resist the persistent nudging from Song Chengchi, who insisted that if he wanted to understand Gu Huai more deeply, he had to start with his social media platforms.
On the Weibo homepage, a photo of Gu Huai was pinned, looking like a candid shot taken by an assistant. In the photo, Gu Huai was casually making a peace sign, a bright smile on his face, though his eyes looked toward the camera with a hint of provocation.
Bo Jianyan silently saved the image. How could someone be this good-looking?
Before he could lock his phone, several WeChat messages popped up:
“President Bo, the Old Madam wants you to return to the old manor this weekend.” “She seems to have arranged a marriage for you.”
Bo Jianyan’s eyes flickered. A moment later, he replied: “Okay.”
To a workaholic like him, a rest day was merely a brief pause before continuing work. But today, he had to obey the Old Madam of the family.
When the driver pulled up to the gate of the Bo manor, Bo Jianyan and Song Chengchi noticed several prestigious cars parked nearby.
Song Chengchi teased, “Bo, is someone here to marry into your family?”
Bo Jianyan glanced at him. “Shut up. Not everyone is a single dog like you.”
“You and your high-and-mighty attitude. You’re just a guy who chooses a pretty face over his friends.”
No matter what he said, Bo Jianyan remained unmoved.
As soon as they entered the main door, the ninety-eight-year-old Madam, wearing a kind smile, waved at them. “Yan’er is back. Come here to Grandmother.” It seemed she had been waiting for a long time.
Bo Jianyan felt something was off, but he still went over to support her. “Grandmother, why aren’t you resting in the hall? I’ll help you over.”
The Old Madam patted his hand with a smile, her voice slow. “Good boy. Come, Grandmother will take you to meet a very important guest.”
Bo Jianyan accompanied the Old Madam in the front, while Song Chengchi was in the back, chatteringly trying to get information out of the staff.
“Hey brother, those cars outside look incredibly fancy. Who do they belong to?” His sincere gaze and urgent questioning made it hard for the following butler to brush him off.
“In response to Master Song, those are people from the Ye family.”
Song Chengchi nodded. “The Ye family? That’s rare. I heard they rarely participate in any events. Today is quite the eye-opener.”
The butler didn’t reveal any more information.
Entering the hall, Bo Jianyan scanned the room and saw a person dressed in a black suit. Every movement and look exuded an air of nobility. Although they had never interacted, his first impression of this person was: unlikable.
He had little interest in the discussion between his grandmother and the Ye family. Retiring behind the Old Madam to a spot where he wouldn’t be easily noticed, he lowered his eyes and checked his phone.
He clicked on the contact labeled [Baby Gu Huai]. His only dissatisfaction was that Gu Huai hadn’t sent him any messages.
Bo Jianyan was never one to sit idly by. If Gu Huai wouldn’t contact him, he would take the initiative.
“I heard you’re going to an audition. It’s very sunny outside. Drink plenty of water so you don’t get heatstroke.” “If you feel mistreated, come find me.”
Gu Huai’s phone vibrated a few times. Seeing it wasn’t his turn yet, he opened the messages. He felt a small spark of warmth in his heart. “Okay.”
The person on the other side replied almost instantly: “What are you doing now?”
“Waiting for the audition.”
A moment later.
[Party A 28]: “Take a photo and let me see.”
Gu Huai found a well-lit spot, struck a pose, and sent it over.
[Party A 28]: “Why are you so well-behaved?”
Gu Huai was stunned. It was the first time in his life someone had called him “well-behaved,” and he didn’t know how to respond. Seeing that his turn was coming up, he quickly sent a message: “I’m going to be busy now.” Then he muted his phone.
After “harassing” his partner, Bo Jianyan was in a great mood. Even the “unlikable” person in the room looked a bit more tolerable.
Suddenly, the Old Madam called his name.
Bo Jianyan expressionlessly turned off his phone and stepped forward. “Grandmother.”
The Old Madam took his hand. “Yan’er, surely you know the Ye family saved our lives in the past. You and Xiao Sui are about the same age. You should spend more time together.”
Anyone with eyes could tell the Old Madam was trying to play matchmaker.
Before Bo Jianyan could speak, the “unlikable” member of the Ye family beat him to it. “The Old Madam is quite right, but this junior didn’t come here today for that reason.”
Bo Jianyan raised an eye, curious to see what he would say.
“My father’s health hasn’t been great these past few years, so he wanted me to come out and gain more experience to eventually take over the family responsibilities. There’s no rush for things like marriage. Besides, Young Master Bo seems to have a bit of a problem with me.” Ye Yunsui met Bo Jianyan’s gaze nonchalantly.
Bo Jianyan spoke carelessly, “Young Master Ye is joking. Why would I have a problem with you? But Grandmother, you cannot make the decisions regarding my marriage anymore.”
“Your grandson already has someone he is going to marry.”
The room went dead silent. The Old Madam was in utter disbelief. “What? Since when?”
Even Ye Yunsui’s gaze carried a hint of playful intrigue. Interesting.
“Recently. We’ve already registered for the marriage certificate. I’ll bring him to meet you next time.”
Song Chengchi stood there dazed. Holy crap, they even got the certificate? How come even I didn’t know?
Bo Jianyan looked like he was in an excellent mood. “Don’t worry, Grandmother. As for Young Master Ye, I don’t think we suit each other anyway. He can find someone else.”
The Old Madam knew Bo Jianyan was unhappy with her constant nagging, but she never expected him to go behind everyone’s back and get married in secret.
Ye Yunsui, seeing the time, prepared to leave. “I’m actually quite curious about the person who could get Young Master Bo to marry them.”
Bo Jianyan gave him a look, too lazy to speak to the unlikable man.
After seeing the Ye family off, the Old Madam still hadn’t processed it. She sat down. Since the certificate was already issued, there was no changing it; otherwise, the Bo family’s reputation would be ruined.
She could only sigh, tapping her cane against Bo Jianyan’s leg. “You child…”
“Grandmother, didn’t you always want me to get married early? Haven’t I brought you a grandson-in-law now?”
The Old Madam glared at him. “Nonsense! When are you going to bring them over for me to see?” Since they were already married, she didn’t even know if it was a man or a woman, or what their second gender was.
Bo Jianyan smiled. “In a few days. He’s shy and gets nervous around strangers. You’ll definitely like him when you meet him.”
The Old Madam reluctantly agreed. “Fine. I’m going back to rest.” Supported by the butler and her staff, she departed.
Song Chengchi finally found an opening. “Wait, Bo, when did you get the certificate? Why didn’t I know?”
Bo Jianyan looked at him as if he were an idiot. “Of course, you didn’t know. Because I haven’t gotten it yet.”
“Dammit!”
Bo Jianyan took out his phone and messaged Gu Huai:
“Baby, reply to me when you’re done with the audition.” “Baby, send me your location. I’ll come pick you up.”
Song Chengchi looked horrified, pointing at him. “Are you even human? It’s only been a few days!”
Bo Jianyan glanced at him, his tone dismissive. “I’m picking up my wife. What’s it to you?”
