Chapter 16: Comparison
“How did it go?” As soon as Cang Jinyao returned to the room, Lin Mengyan who had washed up early and was sitting on the bed waiting—asked impatiently.
“Did she eat them?”
Those rice balls had a little something “extra” added. As long as Ling Qiu ate them, their plan would be halfway complete.
Cang Jinyao’s expression was grim. “No. It’s all because of that idiot Cang Jinyu! If she hadn’t stopped me, I would have succeeded long ago.”
Cang Jinyao knew Cang Jinyu was Ling Qiu’s fan, but she hadn’t expected her to actually dare to fall out with her in front of the cameras. Honestly, did this Ling Qiu know sorcery? Otherwise, from Fang Ziyue above to Cang Jinyu below, why was every single one of them willing to risk their reputation on camera to protect her?
“Tsk, useless thing.” The moment she heard the plan failed, Lin Mengyan’s face changed instantly. She pulled her bathrobe tight.
She had gone through the trouble of washing up, intending to give this idiot a little “reward,” but she hadn’t expected her to be so incompetent.
Seeing Lin Mengyan about to leave, Cang Jinyao hurriedly hugged her slender waist and pulled her back. She leaned against Lin Mengyan’s ear, breathing seductively: “Mengyan, since you’re already here, you have to give me some compensation for my hard work, don’t you?”
Since she was already clean and lying on her bed, she naturally couldn’t let her go.
“Heh, hard work compensation?” Lin Mengyan rolled her eyes. She forcefully pulled Cang Jinyao’s hand away and gave a disdainful smile. “I am Cheng-ge’s lawfully wedded wife. I love Cheng-ge with all my heart, so we are impossible.”
Lin Mengyan sneered: “Besides, we agreed that rewards come after success. You want to get something for nothing? You’re a bit too greedy.”
Lin Mengyan spoke very harshly, but Cang Jinyao wasn’t angry at all. It was precisely this kind of thorny beauty that she loved most!
She persistently grabbed Lin Mengyan, hugging her forcefully as she said: “Don’t worry, I have a backup plan. Just wait for my good news.”
“What good news could you have?” Lin Mengyan looked up at her skeptically. If she couldn’t even shove a rice ball into Ling Qiu’s mouth, what other way could there be?
Cang Jinyao leaned in and whispered something triumphantly into Lin Mengyan’s ear. As she listened, the smile on the face of the woman in her arms grew wider and wider. Finally, she let out a delicate laugh and fell onto the bed with Cang Jinyao. As for the camera diligently filming in the corner of the room, neither of them noticed…
Time flew by, and by noon the next day, the program team began announcing the tasks.
“Today’s task is to find the ‘Lost Treasure.’ One person from each team is required to go to the mountain behind the village. Upon the request of the ‘Old Man of the Mountain,’ you must find his lost treasure. The first team to find it will receive a food supply card, which can be exchanged for any one category of ingredients among meat, eggs, or vegetables.”
As soon as the task was announced, Ling Qiu and Cang Jinyu both frowned. It was quite a long walk from here to the mountain behind the village; this task would likely drag on until evening at the earliest.
Cang Jinyu didn’t feel safe leaving Ling Qiu home alone, nor did she want her to go up the mountain. After all, with Cang Jinyao joining the Lin family’s side, that house was basically a den of thieves. With all those monsters staring at Ling-ling like she was a piece of prime meat, it was a dangerous situation.
Ling Qiu didn’t want to accept the task either. Truthfully, the moment it was announced, her heart began to race with unease. The last time she felt this panicked was at her wedding.
Cang Jinyu preferred speaking plainly. She leaned over and whispered to Ling Qiu: “Ling-jie, I don’t suggest doing this task.”
To be honest, a task that took this long and lasted until nightfall seemed suspicious no matter how you looked at it. She didn’t know what Director Chang was thinking.
Unbeknownst to her, the maligned Director Chang was currently huddled in his room, moaning in pain as he clutched his stomach. He had been greedy for a late-night snack last night, and as a result, he had been plagued by diarrhea all night. Now his legs were like noodles, and he couldn’t even stand up. The filming tasks had to be handed over to his apprentice.
How could Director Chang know that his clumsy apprentice had been misled and was currently flirting with disaster on the edge of a cliff?
Seeing that Cang Jinyu also didn’t want to take the task, Ling Qiu simply rejected the task card handed over by the staff.
“We still have plenty of ingredients; we don’t need to complete this task.” Ling Qiu shook her head and gave the staff another excuse. “Besides, we haven’t finished planting the vegetables in our courtyard yet; we need to get that done today.”
These vegetables were originally Fang Ziyue’s responsibility. No the entire courtyard was organized by Fang Ziyue. Previously, Ling Qiu hadn’t felt it deeply, but today, while managing the yard with Cang Jinyu, she realized just how important Fang Ziyue’s presence was.
Though Cang Jinyu was quick and obedient, she didn’t know how to use the tools, didn’t know how to plant, and didn’t even know how to water correctly. The vegetable seeds Ling Qiu had just planted were washed right out of the soil by a single bucket of water from Cang Jinyu.
To protect her little fan’s feelings, Ling Qiu could only howl silently in her heart, venting her frustration before teaching Cang Jinyu bit by bit. After struggling for most of the afternoon, Ling Qiu looked at Cang Jinyu who had picked up the wrong tool again and let out a silent lament.
Fang Ziyue, of all times to take a leave of absence, why did you have to do it when the courtyard was only halfway finished?!
Ling Qiu seriously suspected that if she and Cang Jinyu continued like this, they wouldn’t just fail to clean the yard; they would achieve the opposite effect.
“Ling-jie, look, am I doing this right?” Yet, the little fan was having a great time. Being able to tidy the yard with her idol made her extremely happy~
Looking at Cang Jinyu’s sparkling eyes, Ling Qiu swallowed a mouthful of “blood” and said against her conscience: “You’re doing great.”
But please don’t do it again!
Emboldened by Ling Qiu’s affirmation, Cang Jinyu became even more energetic. Like a Husky entering a house: dismantle, dismantle, dismantle! The once orderly courtyard was being turned upside down.
“Eh? This girl is something else. Completely inept at labor and clueless about agriculture impressive, truly impressive.” Chen Yueyu’s mouth could never utter anything good.
She clicked her tongue while watching the screen. “It’s like carrying wood to put out a fire she’s only making things worse. This little fan has wrecked the yard you worked so hard to organize. Don’t go back and hit her, okay?”
Chen Yueyu stole a cautious glance at the woman looking down at the video, only to find to her surprise that the other seemed to be in a good mood.
“You’re not even angry at this?”
Chen Yueyu didn’t understand. If anyone made a mess of a room she had painstakingly organized, she would have knocked their head off!
“What is there to be angry about?” Fang Ziyue leaned back in her chair, stretching her limbs comfortably. “It’s just a messy courtyard.”
“Huh?” Something was wrong. Chen Yueyu’s intuition flared. She squinted her eyes and suddenly realized: “Best Actress Ling has always loved cleanliness. You used your ‘Pro’ level skills to spoil her appetite for quality, and then you threw a ‘Bronze’ newbie in there to give her a stark comparison.”
With such a massive drop in quality, it was impossible not to miss the days when a Pro carried the load. This old dog was indeed playing mind games again!
“You really are…” Chen Yueyu gritted her teeth, pointing at the screen. “You can’t even stay quiet while you’re away from Best Actress Ling!”
Fang Ziyue let out a chuckle.
Stay quiet? If she truly wanted to stay quiet, “Designer Z” would never have existed.
But none of that mattered. She took the medicine Chen Yueyu handed over, swallowing it like food. The woman tilted her chin to her doctor: “Chen Ermao, when can I leave?”
Thinking of the disgusting things she had seen through the camera earlier, a layer of chilling coldness covered Fang Ziyue’s features. If she didn’t get out there soon, her wife was going to be caught in a conspiracy.
