Chapter 15: Vigilance is Necessary
After finishing dinner, Ling Qiu called out throughout the courtyard but couldn’t find Fang Ziyue anywhere. It wasn’t until she asked the staff that she learned Fang Ziyue had gone out on business.
Relieved by this news, Ling Qiu greeted Cang Jinyu to eat. Sitting nearby and taking everything in, Cang Jinyu squinted her eyes warily.
How should she put it? She felt as if Fang Ziyue had Ling Qiu tied up. It was like an invisible rope looped loosely around Ling Qiu, with the other end gripped in Fang Ziyue’s hand. The further Fang Ziyue moved away, the tighter the noose on Ling Qiu seemed to draw.
Cang Jinyu ground her teeth; she knew that woman named Fang was up to no good!
“What’s wrong?” Ling Qiu entered the room and saw Cang Jinyu’s solemn face. She asked in surprise, “Is the food not to your taste?”
“No, no, Ling-jie, your cooking is delicious.” Cang Jinyu hurried to shake her head and deny it. Ling Qiu was already a good cook, and with Cang Jinyu’s thick “fan filter,” she nearly praised Ling Qiu as a living god of cuisine.
Ling Qiu was embarrassed by the praise but felt that Cang Jinyu was an excellent junior with a great personality and ability. Consequently, she took the opportunity to give her some pointers on acting. For Cang Jinyu, who had just begun her foray into the acting world, this was an immense help.
Cang Jinyu couldn’t help but sigh again their Ling-ling was just too kind~
“Your room is here.” After dinner, Ling Qiu led her to the guest room. Pushing open the door, Ling Qiu turned on the light and said, “We’ve already cleaned the room. Jinyu, you can move right in.”
Cang Jinyu scanned the room. Wooden furniture, a soft bed, and nameless fresh flowers neatly arranged on the windowsill. One had to admit that Fang Ziyue had some skill; she had turned an empty house into a warm-toned princess room. Seeing it in person was even more intuitive, cozy, and beautiful than seeing it through the live stream.
“What a beautiful room.” She turned to thank Ling Qiu. “Thank you, Ling-jie.”
“You’re welcome.” Ling Qiu gave a gentle smile. “Rest for now. My room is right next door. Just call me if you need anything.” Ling Qiu found the girl quite pleasant and didn’t mind looking after her a bit more.
“Okay” Cang Jinyu returned a sweet smile.
As soon as Ling Qiu closed the door and left, Cang Jinyu lunged onto the bed and rolled around excitedly, hugging the quilt! Awooo! Their Ling-ling was just too cute and gentle! How could she be so good?
The fan, thrilled by her idol’s concern, nearly rolled off the bed onto the floor. After thrashing around for a while and losing all her composure, Cang Jinyu suddenly heard voices outside. She let go of the clothes she was biting on and tilted her head to listen.
“Ling-jie, these are rice balls I just made. I’m giving them to you; I hope you won’t dislike them.”
The familiar voice made Cang Jinyu jump up. She smoothed her messy clothes and pushed the door open with a cold face.
Truthfully, Ling Qiu was unwilling to deal with Cang Jinyao, who shared a personality with Lin Mengyan. However, as the saying goes, “one doesn’t strike a smiling face.” Since she had come to the door personally to deliver rice balls, Ling Qiu couldn’t just shut her out.
“There’s no need for rice balls; I’ve just finished dinner. Besides, we don’t have a refrigerator here, so there’s really no place to keep them.” It was hot lately, and ingredients didn’t keep well, which provided Ling Qiu with a perfect excuse to refuse.
Denied, Cang Jinyao didn’t get angry. Instead, she held up the rice balls with an expectant look and pleaded, “Ling-jie, I’m your fan. It wasn’t easy to meet you. Can you give me a chance? Just a small bite. I worked hard for half a year to learn how to make these rice balls for you~”
Ling Qiu felt uncomfortable hearing this. What did she mean “for her”? This person was exactly like Lin Mengyan moral kidnapping the moment she opened her mouth.
Cang Jinyu, who had just stepped out, heard this and her anger flared up instantly.
“Cang Jinyao, isn’t your idol the Best Singer Lin next door? I recall you used an alt account to curse at Ling-jie. What’s the matter? What are you plotting now, coming here to play nice with Ling-jie?”
Cang Jinyu didn’t care at all that the cameras were still on. This footage would likely be edited into the show. She only knew that exposing Cang Jinyao’s true face on camera would prevent more people from being deceived. Cang Jinyao was a demon in a sweet skin, her bones reeking of conspiracies.
“Sister, how can you say that about me?” Cang Jinyao’s expression darkened. With a pale face, she explained aggrievedly, “I really just came to deliver rice balls.”
“Don’t call me sister; I can’t bear the honor.” Cang Jinyu let out a cold laugh. She stepped in front of Ling Qiu and pointed at the door. “Will you leave on your own, or shall I start by listing all the ‘wonderful’ things you’ve done before?”
If Cang Jinyao were merely untalented for her position, Cang Jinyu wouldn’t be so repulsed. She had once believed in Cang Jinyao’s innocent face, only to nearly be backstabbed by her own sister sent to a big boss’s bed to serve as Cang Jinyao’s stepping stone! Fortunately, her manager was cautious and rescued her. Since then, Cang Jinyu had been collecting evidence, which served as leverage to suppress Cang Jinyao.
Clearly, Cang Jinyao knew exactly what she was referring to. A flash of malice crossed her eyes, but she maintained a look of disappointment. “Sister, I’m afraid you have a misunderstanding about me.”
She then looked piteously at Ling Qiu, but since the taller Cang Jinyu blocked her view entirely, Cang Jinyao could only grit her teeth and leave indignantly.
Ling Qiu, who had sensed something was wrong from the moment Cang Jinyu spoke, stayed obediently behind her like a quiet background prop. Who knew what kind of conflict existed between these two sisters? It was hard for even an upright official to judge family matters, much less for an outsider like her to intervene.
After driving Cang Jinyao away, Cang Jinyu let out a sigh of relief. She looked at Ling Qiu with concern, her tone serious. “Ling-jie, next time Cang Jinyao comes to give you something, do not accept it.”
“It might be inappropriate for a junior like me to say this, but given how simple-minded you are, I have to emphasize it.” Cang Jinyu said earnestly, “Vigilance is necessary. The demons and monsters in this circle all wear human skins and are very good at faking it.”
Even her own sister they had lived under the same roof for over twenty years, yet she hadn’t discovered the rotting sludge beneath her skin until the incident.
Though Ling Qiu appreciated the concern, the word “simple-minded” really struck her like a bolt of lightning. She had been in the industry for so long; how could she be considered simple-minded? Besides, she was nearly thirty, not a child.
Ling Qiu looked at her helplessly and patted Cang Jinyu’s shoulder, responding, “Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.” She wasn’t stupid; she knew that food and water sent by certain people cannot be consumed, or major problems would follow.
Far away in the city outskirts, the “Gold Master Papa” Fang Ziyue, having finished her brief treatment, brushed back her sweat-drenched hair and looked displeased at the video on the screen. She was connected to the program team’s cameras and could see every move of the guests. Naturally, she had signed a non-disclosure agreement with the team.
Chen Yueyu returned with several bottles of medicine and happened to see the conversation between Cang Jinyu and Ling Qiu. She couldn’t help but poke the woman with the dark face and gloated: “See that? That’s the difference between people.”
“When a little fan says those words to Best Actress Ling, she actually listens.” She looked at Fang Ziyue and smiled brilliantly. “If you were the one to say it, Best Actress Ling’s rebellious streak would definitely explode.”
Speaking of which, you, Fang, are also a home-wrecking, drugging third party. A crow calling a pig black? Where do you get the nerve?!
The light and shadow of the video fell into the depths of Fang Ziyue’s pitch-black eyes as if being swallowed; nothing remained. She traced Ling Qiu’s silhouette with her fingertip, her brow furrowing.
Even though this was within her expectations, why was she so annoyed?
“Your year-end bonus is gone.”
The words spoken by the woman in the chair were so sinister that Chen Yueyu, who was preparing medicine nearby, almost threw the bottle at her head. She turned back in shock and questioned loudly, “Are you a dog?!”
Damn it, your wife is being led away by a little fan what does that have to do with me? I didn’t lead her away!
