After Breaking Up With The Wealthy Heiress - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The night breeze brushed gently against the leaves, creating a soft rustling sound.
The black sedan remained parked there, motionless, quietly merging into the hazy night, unnoticed by anyone.
Fang Yu’s hand had long since settled behind Tan Yunshu’s neck. She tilted her head back slightly, enduring Tan Yunshu’s slightly displeased but assertive lead. Her breath felt as though it were being completely stolen away by Tan Yunshu, leaving her a little lightheaded.
It was a kiss with a hint of punishment.
The thin denim jacket draped over their heads blocked out the outside world. In the cramped space, the sound of kissing—a sound they had become intimately familiar with over the past three years—echoed softly.
It was dense and rhythmic, like a lingering whisper.
It wasn’t until Tan Yunshu pulled away that Fang Yu had a moment to breathe and steady her pulse.
Tan Yunshu released her grip on Fang Yu’s waist, pulled the jacket off, and tossed it carelessly into the back seat, where it landed on top of the fresh flowers.
Fang Yu hadn’t put her glasses back on yet. She was somewhat nearsighted, and her eyes looked as if they were shrouded in mist. They looked like mountains in the early morning, or like wisps of drifting clouds.
Tan Yunshu was still holding Fang Yu’s glasses. Seeing her like this, she leaned in again to peck Fang Yu’s lips. She then quirked an eyebrow, her tone carrying a trace of satisfaction. “You haven’t answered me yet, Fang Yu.”
“Mm.”
“‘Mm’ as in what?” Tan Yunshu pressed, clearly unsatisfied with the response.
Fang Yu met her gaze. Her eyelashes fluttered before her glistening lips moved again. “It means I want to kiss you.”
“Good girl.”
Tan Yunshu’s eyes crinkled into a smile. She carefully slid the glasses back onto Fang Yu’s face, smoothed her hair, and fastened her seatbelt. Only then did she cheerfully start the car and drive away.
She appeared to be in a very good mood.
Fang Yu sat upright. She glanced at Tan Yunshu, her lips curling upward for a brief second; even her exhaustion had been chased away.
However, when her peripheral vision caught the flowers in the back seat, she locked those emotions away again. She knew Tan Yunshu must have rejected the person; otherwise, she wouldn’t have come to see her so quickly. Yet, that scene remained a thorn in her heart. The excited screams of the onlookers still seemed to ring in her ears, threatening to drown her.
Moreover, Tan Yunshu had no obligation to explain or justify anything to her. She had experienced many such moments before, and in the end, she always had to regulate and digest those feelings on her own.
The night grew thicker, and the people on the campus roads thinned out until there was only silence. The small sedan drove out of the school grounds without obstruction. Neither spoke, but both knew exactly where they were headed.
It wasn’t Tan Yunshu’s first time driving to Fang Yu’s home. She knew the way by heart. Ten minutes later, the car stopped at the parking area outside “Xinghu Courtyard No. 35.”
“Xinghu” was the name of the nearby subway station, and the residential complexes in the area were named after it. “Courtyard No. 35” was just one of many. There always seemed to be empty parking spaces because few people here owned cars—private vehicles were a “luxury” in this neighborhood.
Rents in this area were low, around four hundred yuan a month, making it a refuge for many families on tight budgets. These were old complexes, six stories high, with no elevators.
The streetlights in the complex were dim, and the air didn’t smell particularly good—a lingering scent of trash or dead rats drifted through the air.
Fang Yu walked ahead with Tan Yunshu following behind. They soon reached the stairwell of the building. Their movement triggered the aging voice-activated lights, and the low sound of their footsteps echoed.
Fang Yu carried Tan Yunshu’s bag in one hand and held Tan Yunshu’s hand with the other.
The texture of Tan Yunshu’s palm was delicate and soft. These were hands that had never done hard labor, unlike her own. Fang Yu’s hands had a noticeable layer of thin calluses; they were rough and felt hard to the touch. In fact, the first time she had ever touched Tan Yunshu, she had accidentally rubbed Tan Yunshu’s delicate skin red with her fingertips.
Since then, she had always been extremely careful.
Fang Yu knew Tan Yunshu didn’t like it here. This was hardly a place for a young lady of her status. The air wasn’t fresh, there was no property management, the soundproofing was poor, and you could hear every detail of the neighbors’ arguments in the opposite building.
The people living here were ordinary in the extreme. Therefore, back at the beginning, seeing Tan Yunshu’s furrowed brows, Fang Yu had asked for her opinion, saying, “I can afford an ordinary hotel room.”
“It’s fine, I don’t mind,” Tan Yunshu’s answer had been airy, her expression softening.
Fang Yu didn’t push it further. She knew that the money she worked so hard for was indeed not easy to come by. Since Tan Yunshu was willing to accommodate her, she wouldn’t insist.
Her thoughts returned to the present as they reached the third floor. The walls were messy, covered in various advertisements locksmiths, appliance repairs, hair salons, and some of a more illicit nature.
Fang Yu scanned them briefly, then reached out to tear down the unsavory ads. she crumpled the paper in her hand before taking her keys out of her backpack to open the door.
At that moment, Tan Yunshu’s phone rang. It was Liang Pei. The ringtone shattered the silence, sounding abrupt in the narrow stairwell.
Tan Yunshu swiped the screen. Looking at Fang Yu’s clear and soft profile, she answered in a cool voice, “What is it?”
Liang Pei asked, “Why did you reject Tang Xiao?”
“I don’t like him.”
“But didn’t you say before that he seemed alright?”
“Just because he’s a decent person doesn’t mean I have to like him.” Tan Yunshu’s tone was calm. She watched Fang Yu open the door, her eyelids fluttering as she countered with a smile, “If that were the case, would I even have enough love to go around, Liang Pei?”
The doors in this area generally came in pairs—an outer and an inner door for better security. After opening the doors, Fang Yu switched on the light and threw away the crumpled advertisements. She wasn’t eavesdropping; the words simply drifted into her ears. However, she couldn’t deny that her mood improved because of them.
Tan Yunshu indeed didn’t like the person who had confessed tonight.
Liang Pei listened to her words. “…”
“Well, you gave the guy the wrong signals.”
Tan Yunshu entered the room—a space so small it felt like a box—once more. As Fang Yu finished changing her shoes, Tan Yunshu reached out to hook her arm around Fang Yu’s waist, pulling her into an embrace before slowly replying to the person on the phone. “I already gave him plenty of face by accepting his flowers, Liang Pei.” Her temper finally flared slightly. “He put me on the spot in front of everyone; am I supposed to thank him for that? Besides, you know I won’t agree to anyone before graduation.”
“But isn’t graduation almost here?”
“You said it yourself: ‘almost’.”
Liang Pei didn’t say more, only sighing. “My bad. I shouldn’t have said those things to him and let him misunderstand. I’ll go find him for a drink to apologize.”
Tan Yunshu didn’t care. “Suit yourself.”
The call ended, and Tan Yunshu placed her phone on a side table.
The room, barely over twenty square meters, was undeniably small and cramped, but it was clean and tidy. The scent was pleasant, reflecting the habits of the person living there.
Being held by Tan Yunshu, Fang Yu—who was wearing much thinner clothes than two months ago could feel the warmth of Tan Yunshu’s palm against her waist and the gradual tightening of her grip.
A few seconds later, Fang Yu pursed her lips and spoke up. “Change your shoes, Tan Yunshu.”
“Wait a moment.” Tan Yunshu had no intention of letting go. After a moment of thought, she asked tentatively, “Did you see it tonight?”
Fang Yu rested her chin on Tan Yunshu’s shoulder and asked back, “See what?”
“Nothing.”
“…I saw it,” Fang Yu added unhurriedly, her voice steady and unreadable.
But Tan Yunshu tilted her head and coaxed in a low voice, “I don’t like him.”
“Take off your glasses, Fang Yu.”
Fang Yu’s room was small. The furniture consisted only of a bed, a set of aging wardrobes, a bedside table, and a small desk and chair. The remaining space was so narrow that it was difficult for two people to stand side by side.
Fortunately, the bed was 1.5 meters wide, enough for two people to lie down. The bed was pushed against the window with no gap. Curtains printed with various animal patterns just barely covered the window. Unless it was raining, the window was kept open day and night.
Because the room was so small, the air felt thinner, so the window had to stay open for ventilation. Besides, the soundproofing was mediocre; there wasn’t much difference whether it was closed or not.
However, whenever Tan Yunshu came over, the window had to be closed. Tonight was no exception.
The last time they met was half a month ago. Both had been busy lately, though their focus was different. As a “daughter of heaven,” Tan Yunshu had many things to handle as graduation approached, while Fang Yu was working two jobs a day.
Their trajectories were completely different; they were the kind of people who seemed destined never to cross paths. As Li Lan had said, there was an unbridgeable distance between ordinary people and Tan Yunshu.
Yet here they were, lying in the same bed, sharing the same blanket, their skin touching without any barriers.
Fang Yu looked down, her gaze falling on Tan Yunshu’s beautiful face under the warm glow of the bedside lamp. Tan Yunshu was striking; even a mole on her face had chosen a perfect spot—on the bridge of her nose near her eye, light and lovely.
But right now, Fang Yu had no time to focus on that mole. She watched Tan Yunshu biting her lip, listened to her fragmented sounds, and lowered her head to kiss Tan Yunshu’s thin eyelids. Then, moving her lips down, she kissed her again, muffling those sounds.
She knew Tan Yunshu had always enjoyed her “service,” and she was willing to lead her into the clouds. Coincidentally, she also loved the way Tan Yunshu’s voice sounded when she called her name while losing control—”Fang Yu,” over and over, sounding lingering and affectionate.
As if they were in love.
After it was over, Fang Yu led her to the cramped but clean bathroom to help her bathe. Tan Yunshu was so exhausted she had little strength left, her legs feeling weak. She kept her eyes closed, leaning lazily against Fang Yu.
If there were a bathtub, she could have soaked for a while. But the reality was that the conditions here were simple; even the body wash they were using was one she had brought herself to ensure it wouldn’t irritate her skin. Fang Yu’s household used cheap body wash the kind that came in a large bottle and lasted a long time, with a somewhat pungent scent.
However, the scent on Fang Yu’s body never repelled her. Despite the immense inconvenience of staying here together, they had somehow persisted for three years.
Near one o’clock in the morning, the two lay back down in bed. Fang Yu could smell the scent of sunlight on the pillow and the expensive fragrance on Tan Yunshu. The lamp had been turned off, and the room was so dark that nothing could be seen.
However, the distant sound of a baby crying somewhere in the complex drifted in, making the atmosphere feel less heavy.
After a few breaths, Fang Yu was about to say “goodnight” when she heard Tan Yunshu ask, “Has anyone confessed to you recently?”
“No.”
Even if there were, she wouldn’t admit it as long as Tan Yunshu didn’t witness it.
Tan Yunshu knew that was her way of thinking, so she rolled over, propping herself up on one elbow and pressing lightly against her. The ends of her hair fell against Fang Yu’s neck, making her feel itchy. But she didn’t reach up to brush it away, simply enduring it.
Their breaths were so close that a single step forward would reignite the spark. Fang Yu blinked, her throat bobbing. Tan Yunshu reached for her neck, her manicured fingertips tracing slowly across it. Their gazes met in the darkness, and everything else fell away into silence.
Her breath fell into Fang Yu’s ear, accompanied by a sentence Tan Yunshu had said more than once.
“You can only be mine, Fang Yu.”
