Lu Wu and Li Jin first met at a book signing in City C.
That day, Li Jin walked in wearing high heels. Her eyes were cold and devoid of desire; a long black dress hugged her slender waist and long legs. She had an ethereal aura, looking more like a supermodel on a runway than a guest at a signing.
Lu Wu originally thought this “supermodel” wouldn’t be interested in anything there, including her books, and certainly not herself.
However, Li Jin stood in the long queue until she reached Lu Wu. She raised her hand, handed over a business card, and spoke in a cold, noble tone: “I want a custom-commissioned book. I have only one requirement: the romance must be pure. I have no need for ‘in-depth exchanges’.”
Li Jin did indeed leave a card, but the contact info wasn’t hers. It belonged to her assistant in charge of business collaborations. She seemed to harbor a deep-seated taboo toward “in-depth exchanges” between adults.
Until later, after a night of wild abandon. From midnight to dawn, from the carpet to the sofa.
Lu Wu asked: “Didn’t President Li say she didn’t need any ‘in-depth exchanges’? Then what exactly are we doing?”
Li Jin closed her eyes lazily to rest, saying nonchalantly: “An occasional exception.”
But that “occasional exception” turned into a lasting relationship. For a long time, they lived like any ordinary couple. Li Jin would find time outside of work to watch Lu Wu’s favorite movies, and she would cancel business dinners just to rush home before midnight to celebrate Lu Wu’s birthday.
Li Jin indulged every one of Lu Wu’s unreasonable demands not just during the moonlit nights of passion, but in every tiny detail of daily life. Wrapped in this “honey” for so long, Lu Wu truly believed their hearts were connected and their love was real.
Until the day she knelt on one knee before Li Jin. The other woman took the ring, but her eyes held a coldness and confusion Lu Wu had never anticipated.
“Our relationship?”
“It was just a pastime.”
Many years later, someone asked Lu Wu: “I heard Li Jin has been looking for you everywhere. Do you really have no regard for your old feelings?”
Lu Wu smiled, her eyes as calm as a breeze: “Old feelings? It was just a pastime.”
