After Breaking Off the Engagement, The Young Lady Deeply Regretted It - Chapter 66
A gleaming sapphire light radiated from the edge of the universe. Ahead, a massive transparent sphere enclosed towering buildings within. Roads curved along the sphere’s surface, arranged in clear hierarchical levels from bottom to top.
The road ended at the top of the sphere, where a combat base was located.
Jing Xiao stepped on the thick magnetic floor, her shoes clacking sharply. Her military uniform carried a heavy scent of blood, so strong that even she frowned slightly in distaste. The guards lowered their heads and avoided speaking when they saw her stern expression, trying to minimize their presence.
She walked through the long corridor and stopped in front of a massive door at the far end. After pressing her fingerprint, the verification sound confirmed access, and the interior of the hall came into view.
“Good evening, you’re impressive,” Pei Lu said from outside, dressed in the same cloak and uniform as Jing Xiao, but with a tight pencil skirt and nine-centimeter heels. She winked, finger resting on her red lips. “The headquarters said the daughter of the defeated sphere’s leader has already been sent to your quarters. What luck! I hear she’s an absolute beauty.”
A murmur of flirtatious remarks rose from the room. Jing Xiao’s team echoed the others’ cheers, but a single glare from her silenced everyone immediately.
Jing Xiao had been trained rigorously since childhood. She had conquered a historically enduring but slowly developing planet through ambush, yet she felt no pride. She wanted land, to claim a planet as her own—not to simply receive the enemy leader’s daughter as a political gift.
She removed her gloves and methodically treated her wounds. “Compared to this, I care more about you.”
Pei Lu swiveled her chair to face her. “Care about me… what?”
Jing Xiao shot her a sideways glance.
“I’m more concerned about how you plan to fight dressed like that.”
They were about to assault a planet of equal strength, some aspects even superior to their own, yet Pei Lü wore impractical attire and makeup. Jing Xiao inwardly marveled at her boldness.
“I call it skill and daring,” Pei Lu said, putting on white gloves. She beckoned her team members, and as they were about to leave, she blew a flying kiss toward Jing Xiao. “You and your little sweetheart work hard; when I return, I can be godmother to the child.”
Jing Xiao shivered in disgust, gritting her teeth. “My child will not have you as a godmother, and I won’t tell your little sweetheart to work hard.”
With her current status, Jing Xiao could have forced Pei Lü to sign an agreement and send her daughter to the reproductive department to ensure the next generation. But in her heart, she believed that continuing life was sacred and beautiful. She wanted to create life with someone she could share old age with—not randomly select an S-class omega to guarantee good genes.
The deputy officer of Pei Lu’s squad chuckled. “General Jing, our Pei team has been looking forward to this for a long time.”
Jing Xiao frowned. “Scram, or I’ll break your legs for joking.”
Amid the cheerful atmosphere, Pei Lu’s squad embarked on a life-or-death mission.
After finishing with her wounds, Jing Xiao’s strong features were as cold as ice.
The deputy officer cautiously asked, “General, tonight?”
“What’s her name?”
“Fan Qingyu.”
“Notify the staff to prepare a separate room for her. I’m tired and want to rest.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Returning to her residence, Jing Xiao turned on the lights. The house remained clean and orderly, as it had been for some time, filled with the rich aroma of tea. Her eyes darkened, as if an invisible hand were teasing her, trying to drag her into a sea of desire.
She moved to the balcony and quickly opened the window for air.
“Shh—”
Jing Xiao reacted swiftly, elbowing a person attacking from behind, dislodging the sharp knife in their hands. She pinned them with lightning speed.
“Who are you?” she demanded fiercely, then kicked their back knee. The person lost balance and fell heavily to the ground.
Long black hair cascaded like a waterfall, partially obscuring the neck. Delicate pink glands were visible, with white skin and butterfly-like shoulder blades—light and exquisite.
The figure wore a nearly translucent tight-fitting dress, barefoot with a strap at the ankle tied with a red string.
Jing Xiao grasped her face. Her skin was pale, eyes red and brimming with tears, trembling as she dug her fingers into the floor until they bled. Summoning all her strength, she slapped Jing Xiao across the face.
“Damn,” Jing Xiao muttered in disbelief, touching her cheek. She had not intended to do anything to Fan Qingyu, yet she had been slapped out of the blue.
Fan Qingyu bit her lips, suppressing the sounds of her body’s responses, and stammered, “Don’t… touch me.”
Jing Xiao sat on the leather sofa, not forgetting to tease about the “godmother” scenario: “If Pei Lu were here, you’d be in big trouble tonight. She loves this kind of playful resistance.”
Fan Qingyu couldn’t hear a word, curling up on the floor to feel the cold seeping into her skin.
“There’s inhibitor on the bedside. Go get it yourself, then sleep next door. I’m taking a shower,” Jing Xiao said, rubbing her temples as she entered the bathroom without looking back.
Scalding water ran over her wounds, making her shiver from pain. She didn’t want to resist her body any longer. She twisted her wrist and switched to cold water, splashing her face.
“You hit hard,” she muttered.
Wrapped in a towel, she emerged to find Fan Qingyu still in the room, having moved to a different spot.
Jing Xiao was shocked by her behavior. Fan Qingyu, who had resisted to the extreme, now obediently remained. Jing Xiao lifted the blanket. “What are you doing?”
Fan Qingyu sniffled. Her body was at its limit, flushed pink, sweat dampening her nearly see-through clothes. Her hoarse voice pleaded, “Nothing… the inhibitor.”
Jing Xiao saw the blood on the floor and the continuous bleeding from her fingers. She hastily opened the bedside drawer, which was empty, and cursed under her breath.
“Help me,” Fan Qingyu weakly begged, head spinning, stomach churning.
Jing Xiao’s heart raced. Initially wanting to refuse, she couldn’t bear the sight of so much blood. She scooped Fan Qingyu into her arms, warning sternly: “I’ll only bite you once. No more. I’m tired. You won’t disturb my sleep.”
Fan Qingyu nodded repeatedly. Pain radiated along the back of her neck as a cold pheromone flowed into her glands. Gradually, her vision cleared.
Before her was a woman with a stoic expression, eyes sharp with battle-hardened resolve, lips colorless, radiating righteous energy.
Jing Xiao laughed at her bold inspection. “So… planning to cling to me? Or are you really hoping something will happen?”
“No… you’re kind of pretty,” Fan Qingyu admitted.
Jing Xiao raised an eyebrow. “Pretty enough to leave you speechless?”
Fan Qingyu moved her aching limbs and dashed into the bathroom.
Jing Xiao watched her flee, a smile tugging at her lips.
She quietly stepped to the bathroom door.
Fan Qingyu, having turned on the light, stammered, “What… are you doing?”
“Your clothes are hanging outside,” Jing Xiao said.
Fan Qingyu finished a cold shower, her discomfort just subsiding. She came out wearing a fitted shirt, careful not to disturb Jing Xiao, who was asleep. She stood by the window, letting her hair dry naturally.
