After Being Used As A Substitute By A Scumbag Alpha - Chapter 4
Qin Wei lowered her head and remained silent, while Zhongli Tang watched her.
“Stop being angry.”
Zhongli Tang instinctively knit her brows. She didn’t like people who were relentless when they had the upper hand, she found it wayward and cute the first time, but by the second time, she felt bored and irritable. She suddenly wondered if she had been a bit too good to Qin Wei, and her face unintentionally grew cold. Her aura became powerful, radiating a sense of oppression.
Never mind an average Omega, even an Alpha would have felt a few tremors of fear.
Qin Wei didn’t show the slightest hint of being afraid. She lifted her head, stood on her tiptoes, and went straight for Zhongli Tang’s neck, sinking her teeth in. Beneath the collar, a red mark instantly appeared.
It didn’t hurt instead, it felt like a heavy kiss.
The frustration in the depths of Zhongli Tang’s heart was swept away. She said indifferently, “I’m telling you, if you don’t want to be late, you’d better not play around.”
Sensing that something was off with the Alpha, Qin Wei tactfully backed away. “Sister, you’re the worst.”
Just as she was about to leave, Zhongli Tang pinned Qin Wei against the wall, lowered her head to give her a light kiss, and then left in a hurry.
The matter must have been truly urgent.
Qin Wei didn’t feel a shred of tenderness or sweetness; she only felt the icy coldness of metal on her lips, and even a hint of pain from the friction.
After the previous night’s tossing and turning, Qin Wei’s body was a bit exhausted, but Zhongli Tang was like this every time. She had expected it.
It had rained for a long time during the night, only stopping in the morning. Stepping out, she felt as if the sky had been washed clean, flawless as green jade. The air was not only fresh but carried the scent of earth.
Qin Wei stood by the roadside waiting for a ride hail car, slowly navigating around the puddles.
“Miss, are you going to the community hospital?”
Qin Wei nodded expressionlessly and got into the car.
The driver was a Beta and couldn’t smell the pheromones on her. However, seeing her come out of this specific residential area, the driver kept their eyes forward but couldn’t help but speculate wildly in their head, imagining all sorts of dramas.
“Miss, if there’s something inconvenient for you to talk about, why don’t you go to the City Central Hospital? There are some things a community hospital can’t do much about. Their medical methods are far inferior. Don’t wait until you regret it later. How about you place a new order and I’ll take you to the Central Hospital?”
“Driver, please just drive.”
Qin Wei looked up, her gaze suddenly becoming somewhat sharp.
The driver swallowed hard and didn’t dare to steal any more glances.
The community hospital wasn’t close, it took half an hour to arrive. Since it was a workday, the lobby was empty with hardly anyone in sight. Qin Wei’s process of queuing for a number went very smoothly.
“You are…?”
“Hello, Dr. Qiao. I am Qin Wei. Four years ago, I was diagnosed here with a severe pheromone allergy.” Qin Wei took the initiative to introduce herself.
Qiao Lin was registering data in the computer and only looked up when she heard the voice. The patient before her was striking, yet felt slightly familiar.
Qin Wei stood quietly in place, giving her enough time to react.
Qin Wei?!
When it came to that name, Qiao Lin wasn’t unfamiliar with it at all. She remembered a nursing assistant being hired at the hospital back then, at a young age, she had a face full of maturity and wasn’t afraid of any dirty or tiring work. After about a month, she suddenly fainted, which gave everyone a huge fright, and she was rushed to the medical room.
The diagnosis was a severe pheromone allergy combined with long-term malnutrition.
Of course, malnutrition was a minor issue, it could be fixed with careful nurturing. The critical issue was the severe pheromone allergy.
“I remember you. Sit down quickly. Would you like some water?”
Qiao Lin looked at the Qin Wei in front of her, and she suddenly overlapped with the weak, exhausted young girl from years ago. Yet, they weren’t exactly the same. The current Qin Wei had become more calm and composed; her presence was impossible to ignore.
“No need, Dr. Qiao. Thank you for the great help you gave me back then.”
Qin Wei sat down and thanked her earnestly.
Qiao Lin’s gaze was complex. She hadn’t expected that Qin Wei would one day find her way back. What did a severe pheromone allergy mean? Encountering an Alpha’s pheromones would cause a severe reaction, suffocation at best, shock at worst.
However, a severe allergy wasn’t just about being allergic to Alphas, the most serious part was that she was incredibly repulsed by her own Ebony pheromones. Unless the Omega gland was removed, there was almost no other way.
But back then, the Qin Wei who was so distressed she nearly fainted had firmly refused. During her hospitalization, no family or friends ever came to check on her.
Later, Qin Wei discovered that by relying on a mutual supplement of Alpha rut suppressants and Omega heat suppressants, she could alleviate the allergy symptoms. Only then did she regain a shred of clarity. Her arms were almost covered in needle marks, and she looked like a person who had lost her soul, only the stubbornness in her eyes flickered with light.
A community hospital could at most perform simple diagnoses and prescribe medicine, they couldn’t handle major surgeries like gland removal. Since Qin Wei insisted on not going elsewhere, no one could do anything about it.
This had left a deep impression on Qiao Lin.
Seeing how difficult it was for Qin Wei, Qiao Lin had told her about another “impossible” path, finding an Alpha with 100% compatibility and obtaining that person’s mark.
Later, when Qiao Lin thought of Qin Wei again, she found that the girl had already left the hospital, and no one knew where she had gone.
“…Has your health improved now?”
Qiao Lin asked cautiously. To come here to see a doctor, she must be desperate.
“Much better,” Qin Wei nodded, her expression indifferent and her tone as calm as if she weren’t talking about herself. “I didn’t go through with the gland removal. I found that Alpha.”
Qiao Lin couldn’t help but widen her eyes. Her reaction was so large that she felt it was inappropriate. “Sorry, I got too excited. That is truly a congratulations to you. A 100% compatible Alpha is too rare for an Omega, especially in a case of illness. Looking at it this way, your allergy isn’t a big problem anymore.”
There is a level of compatibility between Alphas and Omegas. Such compatibility causes a wonderful reaction between them. If compatibility is low, an Alpha’s marking will be much more painful for the Omega and might even fail. But if it’s high, it’s different. Simply put, the Alpha will be much more rational during their rut, and the Omega’s heat period will be greatly shortened.
But this was too difficult, not everyone could be so lucky.
Qin Wei thanked her politely, but there wasn’t a trace of emotion in her eyes, she didn’t look happy at all. “I came today because I want to do another check-up. I want to see if there is a possibility for the allergy to be completely cured, and roughly how much longer it will take.”
Actually, the school laboratory had this kind of equipment, but she didn’t want anyone to know about this matter, so she had traveled the extra distance to come here.
A hint of confusion appeared in Qiao Lin’s eyes. She couldn’t understand Qin Wei’s thoughts now. “But don’t you already have an Alpha? As long as she can mark you periodically, or you two can get married, once there is a permanent mark, the allergy won’t affect your normal life at all.”
“Dr. Qiao, I have no such intention,” Qin Wei said.
Qiao Lin nodded understandingly. She saw both Alphas and Omegas in her practice.
“It’s true, you’re only in your early twenties. Marriage is something that should be considered carefully. Temporary markings are fine too, no rush. How about this, I’ll write you a slip first. Go to the second floor for a blood test, and then we’ll check the gland.”
“Okay.”
One could tell that Qiao Lin had misunderstood something. Qin Wei didn’t feel like explaining; she and Zhongli Tang were bound to part ways sooner or later anyway. She walked straight to the second floor.
Qin Wei was familiar with the series of testing procedures. Half an hour later, she obtained several paper slips and handed them to Qiao Lin.
Qin Wei’s main field of study was pharmaceuticals and laboratory equipment, focusing more on curing from the source. She only had a partial understanding of clinical treatment, so the specific plan still required Qiao Lin.
“Your pheromones are still quite unstable, and the allergic reaction hasn’t lessened.” Qiao Lin flipped through the test results repeatedly, her brow furrowed.
“Yesterday, I accidentally smelled another Alpha’s pheromones,” Qin Wei pursed her lips, pausing for a second before speaking. “It felt very bad.”
“That’s how it is. Moreover, your gland has become very fragile now likewise, the allergy will intensify the reaction. You must protect it well. And what about your Alpha? She should have studied basic physiological knowledge, right? How could she bite an Omega’s gland into this state!”
Qiao Lin couldn’t stand such behavior and was practically fuming with anger.
Qin Wei actually smiled, the corners of her eyes curving. “Okay, I’ll tell her to be careful.”
Qiao Lin didn’t notice the perfunctoriness in her words and looked serious. “In this situation, I don’t recommend further drug intervention. Things like Omega heat suppressants become very dangerous over time. How should I explain this clearly…”
“I understand. Excessive suppressants will cause the loss of Omega characteristics. Initially, the heat periods will disappear, and later the gland will automatically atrophy. After addiction, it can lead to death.” Qin Wei naturally finished the sentence for her.
“Yes, yes, you seem to understand it well too.” Qiao Lin was a bit surprised.
Of course Qin Wei knew, she had participated in a similar research group. However, that conclusion had never been made public.
“Dr. Qiao, please just check for me, how much longer until I am cured?”
Qiao Lin pondered for a moment. “Even though your Alpha… uh… lacks physiological knowledge, temporary marking is still relatively stable. So, based on the test results, if there is a sufficient amount of temporary marking over the next three months, there is a great hope for a cure. But I cannot guarantee it won’t relapse later.”
That’s enough.
Only three months. She didn’t want to hold on for even one extra day, Qin Wei thought silently to herself.
“However, I still suggest you discuss a permanent marking with your Alpha. After all, with such high compatibility and the addition of pheromones and given that an Omega falling in love with an Alpha is an inescapable biological instinct, you can certainly have an Alpha who loves you very much and a stable family in the future.” Qiao Lin gave her heartfelt advice.
Qin Wei lowered her head in silence. Her light-colored eyes seemed shrouded in a cloud of mist, making it impossible to guess her true thoughts but the more she was like this, the more one wanted to dispel that mist.
Her voice sounded a bit ethereal, yet exceptionally calm.
“If I get a permanent mark and am no longer allergic to other Alphas’ pheromones, can the mark be washed away?”
