Chapter 5: Submission – Just Pretend She Still Loves Me
Yu Shujin was not surprised by Xu Yinyu’s choice. The missing corner in her heart had finally been returned to its original place through the guidance of fate and the passage of time.
This time, she would absolutely not allow anyone to take Xu Yinyu away from her again.
After Xu Yinyu signed the documents, her bright, intelligent eyes lost their focus, as if her soul had been drained away. She rigidly straightened the two documents and handed them to Yu Shujin, only for her wrist to be seized by the other woman in the next second, and her entire body was abruptly pulled into an embrace.
Yu Shujin lowered her head, her lips brushing Xu Yinyu’s cheek gently yet intensely, finally settling on Xu Yinyu’s lips. Her free hand secured the back of Xu Yinyu’s head like an invisible lock, leaving her nowhere to hide.
The two beautiful bodies pressed tightly together. Xu Yinyu quickly found it difficult to breathe. She instinctively opened her mouth, attempting to gasp for air, which served only to open the gate for Yu Shujin’s plunder.
The moist, hot kiss carried an irresistible invasiveness. The tip of Yu Shujin’s tongue stirred and plundered, sparing nothing, until Xu Yinyu was on the brink of suffocation. Only then did Yu Shujin finally let go.
Xu Yinyu gasped for air. Her translucent, pale pink lips were now luscious and bright. Her hollow, unfocused eyes were brimming with tears. Her legs felt completely drained of strength, and she could only cling to Yu Shujin’s waist to prevent herself from collapsing to the floor.
Xu Yinyu had never kissed anyone other than Yu Shujin and had no way to judge if Yu Shujin’s kissing technique was good or bad.
The current Yu Shujin watched her like a patient beast, meticulously observing the prey’s reaction before the hunt. She silently repeated four words in her mind: gradual progress.
She used her fingertips to wipe away the tears at the corners of Xu Yinyu’s eyes, her voice low and husky. “Don’t worry, Auntie has already been moved to a safer location by me.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Xu Yinyu’s body abruptly stiffened. She pushed her away with all her might, her face as pale as paper.
Her eyes were filled with shock and devastation, and her voice trembled, “You… you calculated everything from the start.”
From the moment of their reunion, in Yu Shujin’s eyes, she was nothing more than a little white rabbit lost in the jungle, step by step cornered by the hunter until she finally fell into the trap the hunter had painstakingly laid.
At this point, Xu Yinyu had no choice but to try even harder to please the person before her; otherwise, she would not be the only one to suffer the consequences.
Yu Shujin narrowed her eyes. Those heart-stoppingly beautiful eyes flashed a dangerous signal under the incandescent light. She smiled slowly, deliberately, and uttered four words: “What do you think?”
Xu Yinyu felt that Yu Shujin might have gone mad. Such great effort and meticulous calculation, all just to… torment her.
Yu Shujin stepped forward to straighten Xu Yinyu’s collar, the pressure neither too heavy nor too light, her lips pursed. “From now on, you will be my personal assistant.”
Xu Yinyu no longer said ‘no’ to Yu Shujin. She had completely lost the courage to stand tall in front of her.
She could only respond hollowly, “Okay.”
Seeing Xu Yinyu submit to her, Yu Shujin’s mood was lifted, and she even hummed a little tune. She escorted Xu Yinyu to the master bedroom, then turned to the study to lock the documents back in the safe. Afterward, she took out her phone and dialed a number. “How did it go?”
Chi Xia, on the other end of the line, was in a noisy environment. She found a quiet corner to reply. “The video is already recorded. I’ll send you the account details later, and we can start hyping the trend tomorrow.”
“Very good.” A cold light flashed in Yu Shujin’s eyes. Thinking of Su Qingqing’s glass of red wine, she added, “Also, leak some dirt about the Su family while you’re at it.”
It was the time for the A City mayoral election, and the Su family heir was a popular candidate. Releasing the scandal now would allow her to kill two birds with one stone, letting other candidates move against the Su family for her.
Chi Xia hesitated slightly. The Yu family and the Su family had supporting ties in some industries. She worried that Yu Shujin’s heavy handedness against the Su family might provoke retaliation.
“Isn’t that going too far?”
“No,” Yu Shujin’s tone was firm. “Do as I say.”
Yu Shujin hung up the phone, savoring the memory of Xu Yinyu’s expression moments ago. Joy and excitement intertwined in her heart. She deeply regretted why she hadn’t figured this out sooner—to firmly grasp the person by her side—and had instead tormented herself for so many years for nothing.
Pushing open the master bedroom door, she found the bed empty. The trickling sound of water came from the washroom, then stopped. She glanced back and met the sight of a vibrant beauty emerging from her bath.
Xu Yinyu hadn’t touched Yu Shujin’s wardrobe, and she hadn’t had time to bring her own clothes. After showering, she could only wrap herself in a towel and came out. Seeing Yu Shujin, she cautiously asked, “Do you have a spare set of pajamas?”
“If you ask me just like that,” Yu Shujin crossed her arms, a playful smile on her lips, “then no.”
Xu Yinyu understood Yu Shujin’s blatant hint. She silently walked forward, lifted her head, and lightly touched Yu Shujin’s lips—a fleeting kiss like a dragonfly dipping into water.
It was more like a feather-light brush than a kiss.
Just as Xu Yinyu was about to ask again, the back of her head was seized, and a deep, fierce kiss thoroughly drowned her, as if intending to completely devour her whole.
Finally, Xu Yinyu, breathing heavily, put on the pajamas and lay down with the rather handsy Yu Shujin.
Xu Yinyu’s heart calmed down with Yu Shujin’s steady breathing. In the darkness, she suddenly opened her eyes, silently turned her back to Yu Shujin, and curled up, isolating herself from the world.
The next morning, Yu Shujin vaguely felt herself leaning against a warm body. Turning her face, she saw a head of soft black hair. Yesterday’s memories flooded back. She picked up her phone to check the trending topics on StarBlog.
Sure enough, Zhang Manru’s confession video, a series of Su family scandals, the successive exposure of the Su family patriarch’s illegitimate children, and the revelation of the Su family’s gray industry chain—one bombshell after another—left Su Baili frantic and overwhelmed, unable to catch her breath.
Meanwhile, under Chi Xia’s guidance, Xu Yinyu’s reputation slowly began to recover. Multiple comic platforms re-listed her comics and issued clarifying statements.
Yu Shujin tossed her phone aside after reading the news and reached out to pull Xu Yinyu into her embrace.
It wasn’t until the sunlight filtered through the curtains, shining on the two of them, that they opened their eyes.
Xu Yinyu opened her eyes, her gaze blank for two seconds before she abruptly came back to her senses.
“Get up now that you’re awake. Let Chi Xia take you back home to bring your ID and household registration booklet. We’ll prepare to register our marriage,” Yu Shujin’s voice was steady, but her words exploded in Xu Yinyu’s ears like thunder.
Xu Yinyu’s body froze for a moment. It took her a second to process Yu Shujin’s words, yet the confusion in her expression remained.
Yu Shujin looked at her, a sensation like a clean white feather brushing her heart. “What, you don’t want to get married?”
Xu Yinyu subconsciously nodded, then immediately shook her head. Her voice was slightly hoarse. “I just didn’t expect… it would be so fast.”
Yu Shujin scoffed softly. “Oh, if not now, then two years later? Don’t dream.”
Xu Yinyu could only get out of bed, was pulled by Yu Shujin to wash up, and was handed a set of clothes after she was done.
Xu Yinyu took the clothes off her head, putting them on without visible emotion. The shirt fit well, but the trousers were a little long.
She stood in front of the full-length mirror, looking down to straighten the collar of the shirt and the creases of the trousers. The safety clasp necklace on her neck was cool against her skin, chilling her to the bone.
Their eyes met. Xu Yinyu was the first to concede, shifting her gaze. She left the master bedroom and turned to go downstairs.
In the living room, a red-haired woman dressed in a black professional suit was already sitting on the sofa, fiddling with some snacks out of boredom. Hearing the footsteps from the staircase, she looked up, her gaze intersecting with Xu Yinyu’s in the air.
Chi Xia was momentarily startled. Looking at Xu Yinyu’s gentle, ascetic appearance, she looked completely unrelated to the term ‘seductress.’
“Miss Xu, please have some breakfast first,” Chi Xia spoke first, her tone identical to Yu Shujin’s.
Xu Yinyu nodded and sat down at the dining table. It was an exquisite Western-style breakfast, like a work of art, but she ate it without tasting anything.
Xu Yinyu finished eating just as Yu Shujin finally descended the stairs.
The moment Yu Shujin came down, she saw Xu Yinyu looking through her phone. Hearing Yu Shujin’s footsteps, her fingertips noticeably stiffened. When she looked up at Yu Shujin, the emotion in her eyes was complex and resistant, her lips pursed, as if she had belatedly realized something.
However, her awakening had come too late.
Chi Xia patted Xu Yinyu’s shoulder. “I’ll take you now.”
Yu Shujin raised an eyebrow. “Go ahead. Don’t keep me waiting long.”
Xu Yinyu nodded, followed Chi Xia out of the villa, and got into a luxury car of considerable value.
Chi Xia drove, her mouth unable to stay quiet. “Miss Xu, just for gossip: I heard Yu Shujin say you were just high school classmates. So, how did you two meet?”
Hearing Chi Xia’s question, Xu Yinyu closed her eyes, looking extremely weary. Her face, especially, was paper-white. “I’m sorry, I get carsick easily.”
Chi Xia saw the genuine discomfort in her eyes in the rearview mirror, realized she wasn’t faking it, and kept silent afterwards.
Chi Xia drove smoothly and fast. Xu Yinyu didn’t even have to give the address. When Xu Yinyu opened her eyes again, the car had already stopped at the familiar alley entrance.
Chi Xia parked the car, unbuckled her seatbelt, and said, “We’re here.”
Xu Yinyu quickly got out of the car, closed the door, and then walked towards the dusty old house, pushing open the heavy iron gate. Bang! It isolated her from the outside world.
Inside the gate, Xu Yinyu’s face was already ghost-white, and her body swayed, unable to stand steady. She leaned against the yellowing wall to barely keep her footing. The soft sentiment she had preserved in her heart upon their reunion had shattered into dust and powder within a day.
“It’s okay, Xu Yinyu, it’s okay…” she muttered to herself, tears falling like broken pearls. “Just pretend she still loves me.”
Xu Yinyu wiped away the tears falling like broken pearls from the corner of her eyes, constantly giving herself a mental prompt. “She just likes me too much…”
While murmuring, she leaned against the wall and slowly walked toward the bedroom. Every step felt like she was treading on knife points—her heart ached, her body hurt; she felt uncomfortable everywhere.
“ID card, household registration booklet…” She sought a goal to keep moving. She pulled open the bedside drawer, and the smell of old paper wafted out. Her fingers rummaged through stacks of old books, suddenly hitting a faded photo.
In the photo, two girls in school uniforms were laughing side-by-side, each holding a math test paper with a perfect score. Their eyes were youthful and bright.
The smile in the photo stung Xu Yinyu’s eyes. She flipped the photo over and stuffed it to the bottom of the stack.
