After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 56
An Yu furrowed her brows deeply. In the next second, she stared at the man following Lin Duxi’s back and hurriedly picked up her phone to call the community security. While waiting for the call to connect, she quickly changed her shoes and rushed out.
“Hello, I’m a resident of Building C. I’ve noticed a suspicious person following a resident heading out of the community.”
After hanging up, she entered the elevator, watching the floors slowly descend. Her mind was extremely anxious, flashing back to the security guards she and Lin Duxi had seen getting off the plane just a couple of days ago.
That day had been a warning; she had only thought the guards were there to protect Lin Duxi from overly enthusiastic fans.
An Yu clutched her phone tightly, her palms sweating from worry.
Once outside, she met the security personnel who had come to assist. The guards were about to disperse and search for the suspicious individual, but An Yu stopped them.
She opened her map and looked for nearby supermarkets and hardware stores. Around the high-end community, there were several supermarkets and shops. Based on the direction Lin Duxi had left, she listed the few places she was most likely to go.
Her brows knitted tightly, eyes flashing with determination as she carefully deduced Lin Duxi’s possible route. Her anxious and concerned aura was palpable, and the middle-aged security guards—who rarely watched variety shows and didn’t recognize An Yu—assumed she was a newly hired bodyguard for Lin Duxi. They exchanged glances, thinking the “bodyguard” was indeed very professional.
After completing her search, An Yu looked at the surrounding guards with a piercing gaze, suppressing her anger.
“As security, if you can’t even monitor suspicious people entering the community, you better pray this is a false alarm.”
She finished speaking, quickly diverted her gaze, and sprinted toward the nearest supermarket that Lin Duxi had passed.
The nearest large supermarket was not far from the community. An Yu entered without any disguise, fortunately finding the place sparsely populated in the morning.
“Hello, did a woman come here just now, around my height, with slightly wavy long hair?” Lin Duxi had left wearing a mask and hat to avoid attention, so An Yu did not mention her name to the clerk.
The clerk, chewing gum and looking at a variety show on their phone, glanced at An Yu and then looked down, seemingly at the same time back and forth between the phone and her.
An Yu: “?”
“You’re An Yu, right?” the clerk asked nervously.
An Yu: “…People say I look a lot like her.”
The clerk looked puzzled again, glancing at the TV screen; yes, it really was An Yu. Before the clerk could speak, An Yu repeated her question with urgency, and the clerk finally gave up trying to probe further.
“Um… yes, I think there was someone, wearing a hat and mask, very tall and slim. I think she bought… a light bulb. Her back looked really nice, so I noticed. She seemed to head east after leaving. I felt her back looked familiar…” The clerk paused, but before finishing, they heard a voice of thanks and saw An Yu rushing out.
“I haven’t finished yet…” the clerk muttered, staring at the screen on the phone.
The girl who had bought the light bulb earlier seemed to be Lin Duxi.
An Yu ran east, following the clerk’s directions. She hadn’t seen Lin Duxi along the road, meaning Lin Duxi had gone elsewhere instead of returning home.
An Yu stopped, and the guards following her caught their breath.
She looked around. Only one main road connected the community and the supermarket, but scattered alongside were many narrow paths leading in different directions.
An Yu furrowed her brows deeply. Lin Duxi wouldn’t have a reason to go down those narrow alleys. She let out a heavy sigh, forcing her emotions under control.
She closed her eyes, and when she opened them, her gaze had regained clarity.
The guards split into several groups to search different directions, and An Yu stepped into the nearest alley.
The path was quiet and deep, with multiple intersections. As she walked, she listened carefully, and sure enough, she heard a man shouting harshly from another intersection.
Startled, An Yu’s calm composure was disrupted again. She ran toward the sound, her sudden speed alarming the guards behind her.
Following the sound, she found Lin Duxi at a corner, with a man grabbing her shoulders and raising his arm. Lin Duxi frowned, seemingly telling him something. She caught a glimpse of An Yu in the distance and froze.
The man noticed Lin Duxi’s gaze, lowered his arm, and was about to turn, only to feel a sudden pain at the back of his head. He instinctively let go and staggered backward.
An Yu released her fist and embraced Lin Duxi, lifting her arm to see bruises from the grip. All her restrained emotions surged, her eyes watering, looking like a guilty dog that had failed to protect its owner.
Lin Duxi’s heart softened. Seeing her like this, she reached up and gently stroked An Yu’s hair, speaking in a warm voice.
“I’m fine.”
An Yu held back her emotions, lowered her head, and whispered, “Mm.”
The man supported himself as he got up, his black cap falling to reveal dry blond hair with black roots. He looked younger than both of them. Embarrassed at being hit, his eyes turned fierce as he stepped forward to confront An Yu—but the cold, dark look in her eyes froze him.
His step faltered. Suddenly realizing he was humiliated, his face flushed.
“You dare hit me? My dad wouldn’t even hit me, and you dare? Do you know who I am?!”
An Yu looked at him coldly, her eyes still red, the gaze as sharp as ice.
“You pathetic bastard, who cares if I know who you are?”
“I swear, if I don’t deal with you today, I won’t…” He rolled up his sleeve to strike, but was startled by someone behind.
“Who’s there! Don’t run!” The guards rushed in with batons to catch him.
The man froze, feeling the dagger-like gaze of the person in front.
“Lin Duxi, just wait! I’ve got all your secrets, I’ll release them, see how arrogant you can still be!” he threatened, then ran in the opposite direction, disappearing immediately.
An Yu withdrew her gaze. She left the rest to the guards and focused on Lin Duxi, who seemed calm and hadn’t even noticed the threat. Her deep gaze met Lin Duxi’s, and the words An Yu wanted to speak stuck in her throat.
Lin Duxi took her hand, fingers interlacing firmly with An Yu’s. Her warm palm transferred heat through their joined hands.
They embraced, and Lin Duxi’s fingers lightly traced An Yu’s spine, sending a tingling sensation, like electric currents passing through.
“I’m fine. I made you worry. Don’t be afraid, I really am okay.” Though she had been attacked, she comforted An Yu instead.
An Yu rested her head on her shoulder, feeling weak from the aftershock of fear. She pretended to be unaffected.
“What am I worried about… I just…” She pouted, sulking. “From now on, wherever you go, I’ll follow.”
Lin Duxi could never refuse. Everything about her belonged to An Yu. An Yu could freely use and control all of her.
“Okay, I’ll tell you everything I do.” She patted An Yu’s back lightly, a possessive smile tugging at her lips.
The guards, unable to catch the man, returned silently.
An Yu had composed herself, returning to her usual innocent appearance. She glanced at the guards indifferently and led Lin Duxi out of the alley.
She wasn’t a merciful person, especially with matters concerning Lin Duxi. Despite the high security of the community, suspicious individuals had still entered. An Yu frowned, suppressing her rising anger.
For some reason, she felt she had seen that shady young man before. Perhaps it was because all street thugs shared a similar look.
An Yu mentally planned where to move with Lin Duxi next—but suddenly remembered she had no money.
“…Sigh,” she muttered. Another life goal added. Perhaps without realizing, she had already included Lin Duxi in her future plans.
Lin Duxi looked at the stark contrast in An Yu’s demeanor and instinctively held her hand tighter, her fear gradually subsiding.
Lin Duxi remembered the light bulb left in the alley but didn’t mention it, noticing An Yu’s trembling eyelids.
“An Yu, let’s go buy some groceries.” She gently called, bringing An Yu’s scattered thoughts back.
Suppressing her wild imagination, An Yu nodded.
Returning to the supermarket, the clerk immediately stood up, flipping their phone face down, watching An Yu and Lin Duxi enter hand in hand.
They bought some groceries. As they approached checkout, Lin Duxi noticed people in the supermarket occasionally glancing at them. Looking at An Yu, she finally understood why.
An Yu wore simple home clothes, no coat, sunglasses, or even a mask.
Lin Duxi’s heart ached slightly. If the idea formed in her mind that An Yu didn’t even prepare a disguise, it would grow wildly, entwining around her heart.
She exhaled softly, suppressing the urge to kiss An Yu. Watching her focused on selecting groceries, she held An Yu’s wrist, feeling her pulse, their warmth blending together.
“I like you so much.” Lin Duxi whispered softly, only audible to herself.
So much that she wanted the whole world to know: I’m yours, or you’re mine.
