After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 34
An Yu took the backpack and softly thanked her. Then she took out a thermos cup and poured some warm water into the lid, intending to feed it to Lin Duxi. Suddenly, she remembered the brown sugar ginger tea she had bought at the pharmacy at the foot of the mountain.
She opened the backpack, took out the unopened package, and placed a packet inside the cup. Feeling grateful she had bought it, she then took out a hand warmer and tore open its package while waiting for the sugar to dissolve.
The rustling of the plastic bag sounded unusually loud on the quiet, deserted mountain path. Lin Duxi slowly opened her eyes in An Yu’s arms. Seeing how skilled An Yu was at this, her expression gradually clouded with uncertainty.
Had An Yu cared for others this way before, or had he learned to take care of himself over the years?
Either possibility was unbearable for her, and the latter made her already aching body hurt even more emotionally.
She lowered her head, her eyes—hidden from anyone else—filled with suppressed obsession. Now that she was beside An Yu, he would no longer be alone.
An Yu tore open the hand warmer and, just as she was about to speak to Lin Duxi, felt her hug tighten. Alarmed, thinking the pain had worsened, she hurriedly lifted her jacket and pressed the warmer against her over her short sleeves.
“If it feels too hot, you can take it off,” she said gently, her voice carrying an unintentional note of caution.
Lin Duxi froze at the warmth in her tone. After a long moment, she looked up at An Yu, seeing the unmasked worry in her eyes, which made her heart skip a beat.
The hand warmer took a long time to generate heat. During that wait, Lin Duxi still furrowed her brows, biting her teeth against the pain, though her body continued to shiver.
An Yu’s heart ached even more. Looking at the trembling person in her arms, her mind suddenly drifted back to a memory from six years ago.
Snapping back to the present, An Yu clasped her hands together, rubbing them to generate heat, and then pressed them against Lin Duxi’s lower abdomen in cycles, helping her keep warm.
Lin Duxi was stunned by the action. The warmth from An Yu’s gentle touch seeped into her body, circulating through her blood to her heart, conveying a deep and sincere love.
She instinctively leaned closer to An Yu’s ear, speaking in a faint, weak voice that the wind atop the mountain prevented the microphones from picking up.
“An Yu, it feels like we’re back in high school,” she said with a slow, breathy smile, her warm breath brushing An Yu’s ear, her fair skin flushing pink.
An Yu didn’t respond verbally, continuing to rub her hands to provide warmth. Only when the hand warmer finally started heating did she stop.
Seeing Lin Duxi’s complexion slightly flushed, the heavy stone on her chest finally lifted. She reached for the thermos cup and poured some water for Lin Duxi.
“The water is warm. Drink a little to warm yourself up,” she said softly.
Sick Lin Duxi was entirely unlike her usual self. Tears streaked her face, making her look especially fragile. She lowered her head, instinctively blocking out An Yu’s voice.
An Yu sighed. Sick Lin Duxi was weaker than usual but also more stubborn. She carefully brought the cup to her lips, and Lin Duxi finally sipped the water. At that moment, An Yu had a chance to think about other issues.
“System, didn’t you say nothing would happen? What’s going on now? You said nothing would happen! Where is your male lead? You promised!”
“Is this what you call just a little incident?”
Lin Duxi’s trembling image flashed in An Yu’s mind. Her irritation at the system’s failure to protect her made her tone rise with anger.
Strangely, the system—usually so controlling—did not respond this time. It seemed guilty instead, while viewers watching the scene online exploded with comments:
“Even though… sick Lin Duxi is so cute! I just want to cuddle her hair.”
“An Yu taking care of her is so gentle, her worried gaze, her soft tone—so sweet!”
“They’ve been hugging for a long time. Since coming out, Lin Duxi hasn’t let go of An Yu’s waist. They’re a real couple!”
Xie An’an couldn’t bear to watch. She glanced at the staff with the equipment, and they both noticed the metaphorical “lightbulb” above each other’s heads.
Taking a deep breath, Xie An’an asked, “Um, how is Lin Laoshi feeling now?”
Lin Duxi paused, seemingly unaware that anyone else was nearby. She slowly rose from An Yu’s embrace, rested her head on An Yu’s shoulder, and weakly said:
“Much better.”
An Yu tilted her head at Lin Duxi’s still pale face, furrowed her brows, poured another cup of hot water, and took out some painkillers from the backpack.
“Take the medicine first. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Obediently, Lin Duxi took the pills and swallowed them, but didn’t respond, just shook her head.
An Yu’s expression faltered. Seeing Lin Duxi’s fragile body, she sighed softly and said gently, “Shall we go to the hospital?”
Lin Duxi shook her head again. After drinking the water, she poured herself another cup, obedient and meek.
“I’ll feel much better after the medicine. No need to go to the hospital. If you take me, you won’t be able to continue climbing. I can manage on my own. Once the medicine works, it won’t hurt. Don’t worry about me, An Yu. You should go ahead and be first.”
Even in her weakened state, she thought of An Yu first, never once mentioning her own discomfort.
Knowing this would make An Yu upset, Lin Duxi still finished speaking. The sheer effort of saying so much in her fragile state left her breathless.
She looked up and saw the obvious displeasure on An Yu’s face. Yet, she met her gaze, her deep black eyes full of unwavering sincerity. Her lips moved softly, conveying the firm resolve in her heart:
“You’re the most important, An Yu.”
Her voice was gentle but resolute. What most would see as mere teasing was, in fact, a concise proof of the depth of her obsessive love.
So, please don’t push me away again.
“Ah? Ah! Lin Duxi, do you know what you’re saying? How did your wardrobe become transparent?”
“Yo, yo, yo, An Yu is the most important! Lin Duxi, don’t love too much!”
“Whose corners of the mouth have stretched to the sky? Oh, it’s mine!”
“From a drama perspective, are they about to hug and kiss in the mountain breeze?”
An Yu froze, her pupils dilating. She felt as if she had fallen into the deep sea of Lin Duxi’s eyes, unable to struggle. Her gaze was pulled deeper by the intensity she couldn’t comprehend.
After a long moment, she regained her voice and turned to Xie An’an, who was trying to fade into the background:
“Xie An’an, you go ahead first. We’ll catch up soon.”
Startled, Xie An’an shivered and replied firmly, “Okay!”
Finally, she didn’t have to be a third wheel!
Lin Duxi, watching her leave, finally curved her brows, her gaze on An Yu’s side profile, a subtle sense of satisfaction flickering in her eyes.
An Yu handed Xie An’an’s backpack back to her.
“The director said the time is the combined time of the two people climbing. Go ahead first; don’t wait for me.”
Xie An’an slung on her backpack, zipped her black jacket, adjusted her attire, lowered the brim of her hat, and tilted her head at the two, raising an eyebrow.
“Don’t worry. I love cardio in real life.”
An Yu nodded. “Thank you.”
Xie An’an shrugged and began climbing.
After her figure disappeared, An Yu looked at Lin Duxi sitting on the bench. Seeing her obedient posture, she couldn’t help but sigh.
“Still in pain?” she asked softly.
Lin Duxi shook her head. “After the medicine, it doesn’t hurt as much. Let’s go, we can’t lose to them.”
An Yu laughed. “Them? Who are you paired with?”
Lin Duxi lowered her head, murmuring softly. An Yu leaned closer to hear her: “I’m paired with you, An Yu.”
An Yu: “…” She couldn’t help but smile.
“And your teammate?” she asked, slightly annoyed. The system still hadn’t answered; it had completely disappeared.
Lin Duxi looked up at her, her bright eyes clear and trusting.
“I don’t know. I felt unwell during the climb and went to the restroom. Inside, it got worse. Just when I was about to faint, I heard your voice, An Yu.”
An Yu: “I just passed by.”
Lin Duxi smiled faintly, saying nothing more. Her lowered eyes hid emotions that were hard to read.
From the base to the summit, many restrooms were set up. On a climb, one inevitably sweats. An Yu, with slight cleanliness tendencies, wouldn’t tolerate sticky hands. Her strong physique made her less likely to need lower restrooms, halving her actual range.
So she didn’t just pass by.
An Yu bent down to organize the backpack, her gaze suddenly fixed on Lin Duxi’s trembling body.
Lin Duxi had sweated a lot. The higher they climbed, the colder the mountain wind. She could catch a cold like this.
An Yu frowned, took out a thick jacket from her backpack, and draped it over Lin Duxi.
Lin Duxi looked up at the jacket, puzzled.
“I don’t know where your backpack went, and your light jacket is gone. Wear this one for now,” An Yu said.
Lin Duxi felt the thick, warm jacket, still carrying An Yu’s scent, like being gently held against the mountain wind.
Her heart surged with passionate love. Lin Duxi clutched the jacket, letting intense emotions flood her eyes.
An Yu shouldered her backpack, tore open several more hand warmers, sticking a few on Lin Duxi, letting her hold the last one to stay warm.
Lin Duxi bent her lips in enjoyment of An Yu’s care, then stood up to walk side by side.
“Let’s go,” she said.
An Yu glanced at her. Lin Duxi’s condition had improved, her complexion more flushed, though still weaker than normal. An Yu frowned slightly, tucked back her stray hair behind her ear, linked her arm, and felt relieved.
“Let’s go.”
Lin Duxi paused, her long-restrained emotions surfacing again. The touch of An Yu’s knuckles felt warm, spreading through her entire body.
It was the first time An Yu had acted so intimately toward her. Surprised, she swallowed her words and leaned obediently on An Yu’s side to feel her warmth.
In truth, she was no longer so weak and could walk on her own.
