After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 22.2
It makes people want to get closer and closer, even if she is a thorny flower. She’s willing to be pierced and bleed just to gently pick her.
Such a good person, a person who loves her so much. She should be treasured and not discovered by others, so why did they break up?
Lin Duxi smiled bitterly at the ground. A few tears fell to the ground, blurring her vision.
It was probably because she was always losing things.
For Lin Duxi, her mother was an angel when she was a child. Lin Duxi didn’t like to talk much. She didn’t like to play the same games as other children, and when adults saw her, they only lamented her life. She only liked her mother.
Because of her family situation, Lin Duxi was often bullied by other children. She was thin and small but exceptionally pretty, which made her an even bigger target for the bullies.
They would call her names, saying she had a mother but no father, and they would use mean words to mock her family and her life. Lin Duxi would listen but had no reaction. She just thought they were too loud.
So they would say that Lin Duxi had no heart and was a soulless monster, which gave them a legitimate reason to bully her.
Little Lin Duxi asked her mother, “What is ‘soul’?”
Her mother said it was love.
Lin Duxi thought she had love. She had her mother who loved her, and she also loved her mother. She wasn’t soulless.
Her mother was very happy and, for once, took her to the mall to buy a very beautiful little dress, praising her for being a little angel. They also ate a delicious meal together.
Lin Duxi was very happy. She wore the beautiful new dress to the park, but the bullies poured juice all over it. The pretty dress became ugly, and she no longer liked it. They said she didn’t deserve to wear such a nice dress, that monsters didn’t deserve it.
Little Lin Duxi didn’t react. She only thought that her mother would be heartbroken when she saw it.
She wanted to go home, but those people stopped her. They wanted to bully her more. Lin Duxi didn’t want to argue with them; she thought they were childish.
But she didn’t expect a little girl to suddenly step out and stand in front of her, scolding the bullies.
“A few big boys bullying a little girl, aren’t you ashamed!” She made a funny face at them, not afraid at all.
“Why are you helping her? She’s a soulless monster! If you play with a monster, you’re a monster, too!”
The little girl turned her head and looked at her. Lin Duxi lowered her head and took a step back. She thought, see? They all think I’m a monster. You should leave too. I’m a monster.
But the little girl reached out, pulled her behind her, and said bravely, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll get justice for you.”
Lin Duxi looked up in surprise and saw her determined expression. The sunset that day was especially fiery red, burning in the little girl’s brown pupils.
She wanted to say that she didn’t need her help because she would get revenge in another way, but when she saw the girl’s determined gaze, she closed her mouth.
Lin Duxi nodded, put her hands on her shoulders, and hid behind her.
The little girl then became very intimidating, not backing down against the boys who were a head taller than both of them.
“She’s not a monster! You guys are the monsters! The monsters who bully people because you outnumber them!”
The bullies were so speechless that they got angry and tried to gang up on her. But they were scared by the stones the little girl threw and scattered.
The little girl then triumphantly stuck her tongue out at them, turned to Lin Duxi, and said, “The bad guys have run away. Let’s play together.”
For the first time, Lin Duxi played a game with someone else. She had no friends and was unfamiliar with the game. The girl’s beautiful fluffy skirt was also stained with mud, and when Lin Duxi told her, the little girl didn’t care at all. “Now our clothes are the same.”
The little girl held her hand and said, “So we’re good friends now.”
Lin Duxi didn’t know how to answer or what kind of reaction to have. For the first time, her small heart allowed an outsider in. She had her first good friend. The two of them agreed to play in the park again at the same time the next day.
On her way home, Lin Duxi happily ran on the road, feeling that the road that usually felt so long no longer felt tired. She was eager to tell her mother that she had made a good friend, that her good friend didn’t think she was a monster, and that she had one more person to love.
But she would never find anyone to tell.
The fire that day burned until late at night, as red as the sunset. The scorching flames turned everything Lin Duxi had into ashes. She lost the person she loved and truly became a soulless monster.
After that day, she was sent to an orphanage and never went back to that park. That small promise was destined to never be fulfilled.
Later, in high school, those happy and painful childhood memories had disappeared into the dust of time. She thought she would never see them again.
“Excuse me.” The girl, with a fried dough stick in her mouth, squatted down to help Lin Duxi pick up the homework that had fallen on the ground.
She handed the homework to Lin Duxi and said apologetically, “I’m sorry, I was running too fast and didn’t watch where I was going.” Her clear eyes were filled with apology.
Lin Duxi looked at her eyes. Those clear, brown pupils. She would never mistake them.
Lin Duxi reached out to take the homework and watched as the person ran past her, as if in a different world. She turned and watched her get farther and farther away. Her dead heart was ignited once again, burning more and more fiercely, as if it would burn her along with it like a candle.
She wanted to hold onto this light she had found and lost, but the tighter she held on, the faster the light, like fine sand, slipped away from her, and she would lose it completely.
Lin Duxi suddenly laughed, a sorrowful and obsessive laugh. A persistent flower grew out of despair, charming and mysterious. A person who loves to the extreme is destined not to turn back.
She would not let the things she cherished leave her. People were the same. Even if she had to go all out and get hurt, she would get An Yu’s love back.
It was the medicine she needed to survive.
“Lin Duxi, how are you feeling? Does your head still hurt?” An Yu slowly fed Lin Duxi some warm water, her voice soft as she asked.
She had already coaxed Lin Duxi to take the medicine and was ready to check her temperature in a little while.
Lin Duxi had taken the medicine and looked a bit tired. An Yu was afraid of the wind outside, so she helped her into the car to rest. The audience in the livestream also expressed their concern for Lin Duxi.
An Yu put Lin Duxi in the seat and got out of the car to get a thermometer, but she was pulled back by Lin Duxi, who was grabbing her sleeve.
Lin Duxi gently rubbed her shoulder like a wounded kitten that wanted its owner’s comfort. “Ayu, stay with me. I’m so tired.”
An Yu’s heart softened, so she gave up on getting out of the car and sat beside her, letting her hold her. Patients always had some privileges.
[Ahhhhh, they’re hugging! Is this something I can watch?!]
[Although it’s a bit immoral, I feel like Lin Duxi is so weak and easy to push over right now. I’m starting to waver, as a Lin-top.]
[Little Lin looks so weak. An Yu, you have to take good care of her.]
An Yu didn’t look at the camera, so she naturally didn’t know what the netizens were shipping in the comments. She softly asked a staff member to get a thermometer for her, then opened the window for some fresh air. She just let Lin Duxi fall asleep leaning on her arm.
She listened to her shallow breaths, and the movements of her breathing against An Yu’s arm made her feel like her arm was stuck in place. The warm air on her neck made her skin, all the way to her ears, turn red.
She looked at the time and distracted herself by checking Lin Duxi’s temperature. She was relieved to see that the fever had finally gone down.
With the worry gone, other doubts filled her heart.
She was so heartless back then, but now she was pleading like this. She really didn’t understand what Lin Duxi was thinking.
She couldn’t see into Lin Duxi’s heart, and it had been like this for six years.
Lin Duxi had been gone for six years, and that time was really difficult. With her parents’ deaths, all her support and all her family were gone overnight. She was in a lot of pain and wanted to just leave it all behind several times, but she held on.
She thought she would never have anything to do with the past again, but she was so wronged that she was killed when she was about to live a good life. She was reborn at the age of 24 and was forced to have a connection with Lin Duxi.
Everything, everything, was because of that phone call. Who was that person, and what grudge did they have against her and her parents?
An Yu was thinking, but she didn’t have time to. There was a loud buzzing in her head, and the system came.
“Host, it seems you haven’t made any progress this morning.” The system’s crackling voice was especially harsh. An Yu suspected it had a short circuit.
An Yu: “Did you not see that Lin Duxi was sick? You’re in such a hurry. I have to wait until she recovers before I can do my task.”
System: “…”
“She should recover this afternoon. It won’t be a problem. The afternoon and evening activities are all group activities. You need to pay attention to the male and female leads and get them to interact more.”
An Yu frowned, a little unhappy, but she went along with it. “I’ll try this afternoon, but whether Lin Duxi goes or not is another story. Lin Duxi is sick, and your male lead hasn’t even shown up yet. You want Lin Duxi to go and talk to him? Don’t get your hopes up.”
After she said that, she waited for the system’s response. After a while, she heard the system gritting its teeth and explaining, “I’ll take care of the male lead’s side. You just have to find an opportunity to handle the female lead’s side.” After saying that, it left, taking the buzzing electricity with it.
An Yu looked at Lin Duxi, who was sleeping beside her, reached out, and gently tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear, revealing a pure, flawless face. Then she sighed.
According to the system, she needed to get Lin Duxi to interact with Pei Lu during the afternoon activities. There was no other way than to get Lin Duxi to take the initiative, but to get Lin Duxi to go find Pei Lu… An Yu herself wasn’t willing to say that.
She would find an opportunity later.
Although An Yu thought about waiting for an opportunity to talk to Lin Duxi, she secretly hoped that the opportunity wouldn’t come. Then, when the system questioned her, she could answer truthfully. She would just get zapped again. But she didn’t expect that the opportunity would come so quickly.
After lunch, the director told them that there were a lot of activities in the afternoon and evening and suggested that the six of them go to their rooms to rest.
An Yu stood at the table and watched as everyone left. She could only helplessly walk to the bedroom door, thinking about how to bring it up later.
It just so happened that the door opened at that moment, and her eyes met Lin Duxi’s by chance. She was stunned.
Lin Duxi had just taken a shower, and her hair was still a little damp. Her flawless face looked even more ethereal. She had a smile on her lips and asked, “What are you doing, Ayu?”
An Yu thought for a moment, walked into the bedroom, and reached into her pocket, handing over the thermometer. “Take your temperature first.”
Lin Duxi smiled and took it. She sat on the side and took her temperature. They weren’t close to each other. One was sitting on the bed, and the other was on the sofa.
“Does your head still hurt?” An Yu looked down at the complicated patterns on the carpet.
Lin Duxi looked at her, shook her head, and said in a gentle voice, “It doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s good that I have you, Ayu.”
Her voice was as clear as mountain spring water and also a little hoarse from her cold, which tickled An Yu’s heart. She nodded to show that she understood and then decided to speak.
“The director told me about the activities for this afternoon and evening. She wants us to do the activities with the other groups.” She was lying but kept a straight face, her hands unconsciously clasped together.
Lin Duxi heard this, turned her head, and her eyes fell on An Yu. She naturally saw her unnatural hands. She looked at An Yu’s hands for two seconds, then smiled and didn’t answer. Instead, she took out the thermometer and looked at it carefully.
The sound of rustling cloth sounded. An Yu looked up and saw her carefully looking at the thermometer against the light. The bright light fell into her eyes, and there seemed to be broken light flickering in them.
“I don’t want to do the tasks with them. I only want to be with you, Ayu.” She said as she looked at the thermometer. Her soft, white fingers gently held the thermometer, as if she was also holding An Yu’s heart.
“But, if Ayu says so,” she turned her head and looked at An Yu, revealing a gentle smile. “I’ll go with you wherever you want to go, Ayu.”
An Yu’s expression was complicated. She outlined Lin Duxi’s appearance with her eyes, feeling a little bittersweet. The more Lin Duxi acted like she didn’t care and just followed her, the more she felt like a villain. She smiled faintly. “It’s okay. I didn’t want to go anyway. We can just pretend to go and show the director.”
Lin Duxi pursed her lips. Then she got up, walking gracefully. She bent down and handed the thermometer to An Yu. “The fever’s gone. Ayu can rest assured.”
Her clothes were loose, and when she bent down, the collar fell with her movement.
An Yu took the thermometer and caught a glimpse of her fair skin under the unbuttoned button. She froze for a moment. She instinctively looked away, her heart pounding. The sound of her own noisy heartbeat was all she could hear. Lin Duxi’s scattered hair seemed to be an invitation.
She wanted to leave her mark on her.
Lin Duxi followed her gaze and froze for a moment. Then she looked into An Yu’s eyes, a playful smile in hers. She slowly leaned in close to An Yu’s ear, her voice lazy but also charming and a little teasing.
“Ayu is such a pervert.”
An Yu’s expression froze. She turned her head, and her cheeks and ears turned an unnatural shade of red.
“Okay, I’ll go explain it to the director. I’ll go out first.”
With that, she got up and quickly walked out, not caring that she was making a hasty escape.
Listening to the hurried sound of the door closing, Lin Duxi put away all her charm, lazily reached out, and buttoned up the button, revealing a triumphant smile.
Ayu’s little expression when she lies hasn’t changed at all over the years. It’s still so obvious.
But then her expression darkened.
But why did she say that? Her words were different from yesterday, but they had the same meaning. Ayu wanted her to interact with other people. What was her purpose, and who was forcing her?
Lin Duxi’s expression showed confusion for the first time. Then she slowly smiled.
Never mind. She would always be with Ayu, and there would be a moment when she would slip up. She liked to see the prey’s helpless look when they made a mistake. Besides, how could she let go of such an easy opportunity to get close to An yu?
