After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 22.1
“Lin Duxi, what are you doing?” An Yu’s cold voice rang out from behind, startling Lin Duxi.
She quickly exited the app on her phone, turned to face An Yu, her expression unchanged with a smile on her lips: “Ayu, where did you go? I was so sad when I woke up and didn’t see you.”
Lin Duxi lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembling slightly, looking like a little cat that had suffered a great wrong.
An Yu was taken aback by her words and hurt expression, momentarily forgetting what she was going to ask. “I woke up early and went to make breakfast.” When she said this, she remembered the morning’s events, and her tone became a little unnatural.
While An Yu was answering, Lin Duxi had already walked over to her. Her clear eyes looked directly at An Yu, filled with a pure, untainted love.
An Yu looked into her eyes and felt scorched by her sincere affection. She couldn’t help but turn her head to avoid her gaze and said, “I came to call you for breakfast. It’s ready, let’s go eat.” Her ears felt hot from Lin Duxi’s gaze, and she couldn’t understand what she was doing so early in the morning.
“Okay, I’ll listen to whatever Ayu says.” Lin Duxi acted as if she had no opinion of her own, simply agreeing to whatever An Yu said.
Her words were like a hypnotic incantation, lingering and passionate. At 18, they would have muddled An Yu’s mind, and even now, An Yu couldn’t handle such ambiguous words. The dream from last night reappeared in her mind, helping her regain some clarity. She instinctively handed over the cup she was holding to interrupt Lin Duxi’s actions.
“Before breakfast, drink this first.”
Lin Duxi was pleasantly surprised, taking the cup with both hands as if afraid it would break. She looked at the cup and asked, “What is this…”
“Honey water, to help with the headache after drinking.” An Yu said nonchalantly, as if it was a casual thought. “You had a headache last night, so it’ll help you feel much better.” After saying this, she turned to leave. At the door, she suddenly remembered the odd expression she had seen on Lin Duxi’s face.
“What happened just now?” she asked curiously.
Lin Duxi stared at the cup of water, her pupils dark. Upon hearing An Yu’s question, she came back to her senses and took a small sip. It was both sour and sweet, just like Ayu.
“Does Ayu want to know?” Lin Duxi looked at her, and her whole body exuded a dangerous aura completely different from before. Her beautiful, dark eyes were like a deep sea that could pull people in, calm on the surface but with an undercurrent of turmoil and ripples.
“Whatever Ayu wants to know, I will tell you everything. As long as I know, I will tell you truthfully.” Including everything about me, with nothing held back, as long as you want to know.
She placed one hand on An Yu’s cheek, her eyes filled with desire and intoxication. But An Yu had lost all interest in asking further.
“No need, when you say it like that, I feel a lot of psychological burden.” She dodged Lin Duxi’s intimate gesture, frowned, and turned to leave the room, closing the door behind her and shutting out Lin Duxi’s a mbiguity.
Lin Duxi ignored her leaving and turned her attention back to the warm honey water, smiling to herself as if she had received an unexpected surprise.
An yu really does care about her. Her An yu really is paying attention to her.
The tumultuous emotions surged in her heart. An Yu would never know how much she had to restrain herself from kissing her.
She had only revealed a fraction of her love, and An Yu had already been scared away. Lin Duxi chuckled. What kind of expression would Ayu have if she knew her innermost thoughts? She was a little curious.
After all, she really, really likes Ayu.
“So tsundere,” Lin Duxi murmured softly, not caring who she was talking to.
She took out her phone again and looked at the fan art. The more she looked, the more she felt it was An Yu’s work. The content of the drawing made her think of something, and her eyes widened suddenly.
The red string in the picture looked very similar to the red ribbon tied on the cookie box she had given An Yu. The two ribbons were also used to tie something, just different objects.
Lin Duxi’s cheeks flushed slightly. She bit the glass cup lightly, then bit her lip, unable to hold back her laughter.
Ayu is such a pervert.
Breakfast was simple: ordinary bread, eggs, and porridge. But because An Yu had made it, Lin Duxi deliberately savored every bite, as if she were tasting a delicacy in a high-end restaurant.
An Yu tried her best not to look at her to keep her expression from cracking and to avoid thinking about her dream.
After finishing her porridge, Xie Anan wiped her mouth with a napkin, satisfied. “Teacher An, I think tonight’s dinner is going to be delicious.”
An Yu smiled but didn’t say anything.
Lin Duxi, however, quietly glanced around and looked at the four people who had come to mooch breakfast, feeling a little displeased.
She admitted she was selfish; she didn’t want anyone but her to taste what An Yu made. She was already trying very hard to control this emotion.
Lin Duxi took a big gulp of porridge.
After breakfast, the group took their separate cars to the first location of the day, and the day’s filming began.
As the cars drove to the lakeside, the group got out and entered a world of ancient charm.
[It’s so beautiful here.]
[It’s perfect for ancient lovers. I feel like I could find my own love here right away. Oh, heaven, please give me a sister!]
[So we’re going to take a boat on the lake?]
Qiao Qingzhou watched the popularity of the livestream soar and felt a surge of motivation for the day.
“Hello, everyone. Welcome to the lake tour. This lake is one of the city’s landmarks, and the scenery is extremely beautiful. Everyone can relax this morning. It’s just a simple boat tour.”
[They just want the audience to ship the couples, Director Qiao. You know what you’re doing.]
[They’re starting to slow down the pace. Let me see my couple.]
[Did my couple sleep together last night? I saw a spoiler that they shared a room. I’m gonna make a wish that my couple slept together.]
An Yu wasn’t very interested in the boat tour. Compared to being bored on a boat and looking at the scenery, she cared more about what they would eat for dinner tonight.
But when she saw the eager expression on Lin Duxi’s face and her clear, bright pupils tentatively looking at her, for some reason, she thought of that bright girl from back then. She then let Lin Duxi pull her along to choose a boat that she liked.
After putting on their life vests, the six people boarded the boats in pairs according to their groups. Lin Duxi boarded first. The boat’s door was a bit narrow, and Lin Duxi didn’t notice the frame above. An Yu’s inherent courtesy made her instinctively reach out to block it, so she wouldn’t hit her head. The next second, she sensed a clear, ill-intentioned gaze from behind her.
An Yu withdrew her hand, boarded the boat with a normal expression, and sat down. She secretly glanced back and, sure enough, it was Pei Lu’s boat.
An Yu rolled her eyes at him inwardly.
The boat started and slowly sailed onto the lake. The wooden boat and the ancient-style buildings made them feel as if they had traveled through time.
Looking from a distance, the mist on the lake had not yet dispersed, adding a layer of mystery.
An Yu leaned on the railing, bored, and looked into the distance. The excited Lin Duxi, however, had a bright look in her cold eyes, which made her already beautiful features even more charming. An Yu couldn’t help but look at her a few more times.
At this moment, Lin Duxi suddenly spoke. She looked into the distance and said,
“Ayu, look at that group of buildings.”
An Yu thought she had been discovered and quickly averted her gaze. She followed Lin Duxi’s line of sight and indeed saw a group of ancient-style buildings. She carefully distinguished them and said, “It’s Hengdian. What about it?”
Lin Duxi shook her head, then fell into a memory, speaking in a tone as if chatting with a friend. “I remember my first costume drama was filmed here. I remember it very clearly. Back then, when I was hanging on a wire for a fight scene, it malfunctioned, and I got a dozen-centimeter scar on my back.”
She held up both hands to show the length, then smiled candidly.
An Yu frowned slightly and looked at her. It was common for actors to get injured during filming. And Lin Duxi wasn’t the kind of person who would bring up her pain.
So, by deliberately talking about her injury, she might be trying to make An Yu feel for her.
An Yu’s expression was complicated. She did feel sorry for her.
“Has it healed?”
Lin Duxi turned back and smiled gently. “Yes, it’s been so long, it’s already healed. The wound has also been treated for scars, so you can’t tell unless you look carefully. Don’t worry, Ayu.”
She wanted her to worry, but she told her not to. How strange.
An Yu turned her head away from her, but the faint look of pity hidden in her eyes didn’t disappear.
Lin Duxi didn’t want to end the conversation there. “Ayu, did you finish the cookies I gave you before we started filming?” she asked suddenly.
In an instant, An Yu remembered the fan art she had drawn using the red ribbon from the cookie box as inspiration. In that same instant, the full image of the drawing appeared in her mind and couldn’t be cleared away no matter how hard she tried to distract herself.
She could only maintain her pose of looking at the scenery without looking at her, using her acting skills to keep her expression unchanged. “I finished them.”
Lin Duxi’s eyes traced An Yu’s expression, and she was extremely nervous. When she saw that An Yu’s face didn’t change at the mention of the cookies, her heart was hit hard.
It’s impossible. She couldn’t have mistaken Ayu’s drawing. The style and brushstrokes were all too familiar. It couldn’t be wrong. So why didn’t Ayu react at all?
Lin Duxi was so anxious that the corners of her eyes turned red, and tears welled up. She looked at An Yu, desperately hoping to see something in her expression, but all she saw was her light profile as she looked at the scenery, with no clues.
It felt like cold water had been poured on her. The comfort she had just found was shattered by her own hand. Lin Duxi felt like she had lost all her strength and leaned against the railing, no longer interested in the scenery.
With so many coincidences, it couldn’t have nothing to do with Ayu. Besides, she had looked at the release date, and it was published the day after she gave her the cookies. It couldn’t be wrong. Lin Duxi thought so, and with all these coincidences pointing to An Yu, her heart slowly calmed down. Then she smiled slightly.
How could she have forgotten that Ayu was also an actress and could act?
Whether An Yu had published that picture or not, it could only have been An Yu who published it. She stubbornly believed this.
An Yu’s expression didn’t change, but in her heart, she was marveling at her disguise. Although she didn’t know what she was disguising, it wasn’t like Lin Duxi could have known about the painting’s existence.
After getting her answer, Lin Duxi didn’t ask her anything else, which gave her a moment of peace. She just sat in her seat and slowly enjoyed the scenery.
After some time, An Yu was dozing off in her seat. Suddenly, a heavy weight fell on her shoulder. She opened her eyes and saw Lin Duxi leaning on her shoulder, her eyes closed in discomfort.
An Yu immediately woke up and reached out to help Lin Duxi up, but Lin Duxi stopped her.
She held An Yu’s arm, and her words had a pleading tone that she wasn’t even aware of.
“Ayu, don’t move. Can you let me lean on you? I’m a little dizzy.”
An Yu understood and didn’t move. She asked the boat captain to find a nearby dock and then looked at Lin Duxi, who was frowning, feeling both helpless and curious. “If you get seasick, why were you so happy to get on the boat?”
Lin Duxi just managed a smile and then held An Yu’s arm tightly, burying her head in her neck. Her voice was muffled as she said,
“Because I’m on a boat with Ayu. I’m happy to do anything with Ayu. I didn’t want to miss out.”
Because she felt unwell, her voice was weak, making people want to protect her.
An Yu was stunned. A look of confusion appeared in her eyes. She lowered her head to look at the suffering Lin Duxi but ultimately didn’t say the question on her mind, letting her thoughts wander.
If she didn’t want to miss out, why was she so resolute when she broke up with her?
Since they had already broken up, why was her profile picture still that painting? An Yu had drawn that painting for Lin Duxi during a boring class, and she didn’t expect her to use it as her profile picture to this day. Was she deliberately trying to please her?
But those cold words, those heartless eyes, and the way she left without any hesitation were like sharp knives that stabbed her heart. How could Lin Duxi be trying to please her?
In the past few years, An Yu had been wondering what kind of person Lin Duxi was. How could she just detach herself from their relationship so easily? But on that rainy night, the phone call that couldn’t get through, didn’t that already make it clear?
Lin Duxi didn’t love her at all.
An Yu had always thought she was pathetic, wanting to call her after they had broken up. After getting the result, she still couldn’t believe it. Even at the bitter end, her heart wouldn’t give up.
But on countless lonely nights, the resentment and pain gradually faded with time. Slowly, the wound in her heart became numb and rotten, losing all feeling. As the memories were buried, it became a minor emotional story in her life, and she no longer had the motivation to pursue it.
It was a form of healing.
But now, those confusions and doubts were resurfacing in her heart. The questions that had gone unanswered for years were still difficult to explain.
An Yu couldn’t figure it out.
The boat stopped at a nearby dock. After they got off, An Yu helped Lin Duxi to a chair by the shore.
She originally wanted to let Lin Duxi rest while she got some water, but she didn’t expect that the struggling Lin Duxi was surprisingly strong. It was as if she had put all her trust in An Yu. When An Yu tried to leave, Lin Duxi held her tightly, refusing to let her go and clinging to her arm.
An Yu was helpless and had to ask the staff to help her get a cup of water.
After the staff left, the filming stopped for a while. Lin Duxi’s grip on her arm didn’t loosen, and it even became stronger. The heat coming from her body was a lot higher than a normal person’s.
An Yu wondered if she had a cold. When she was about to ask, she heard Lin Duxi speak.
“Ayu, do you remember our first meeting six years ago?”
An Yu was stunned and looked at her in disbelief. This was the first time Lin Duxi had brought up the past. She felt like she knew what Lin Duxi was going to do, but Lin Duxi acted as if she hadn’t noticed. She looked at the vast lake with a gentle expression, as if reminiscing about the past.
An Yu was thinking about whether Lin Duxi was sick and didn’t want to continue the topic. “What’s the point of bringing up old things? It’s all in the past.”
Lin Duxi’s expression froze. She looked at An Yu, and a faint light appeared in her eyes, as if she already knew what she was going to say next. Her eyes pleaded with her not to say it, hurting An Yu’s eyes. An Yu turned her head away, unwillingly. Some things were better to be made clear, as delaying them would only cause more trouble.
“We were both naive back then. No matter what happened, we would have broken up. It was just a matter of time.” It just so happened that all the triggers were stacked up at that time.
An Yu looked at the clouds in the distance and said faintly, “It’s all in the past.”
Lin Duxi looked at her relieved expression, and it felt like a bolt of lightning. She desperately grabbed An Yu’s sleeve and said anxiously, “No. That’s not what I meant, Ayu. Please don’t say that.”
She was too afraid of seeing that expression on An Yu’s face. She was afraid that An Yu would leave again. Her movements were too big, and her body, which had just gotten better, started to feel dizzy again. She weakly supported herself on the chair, her face full of discomfort, but she still held onto An Yu’s clothes and pleaded.
“Ayu, don’t say that… Don’t leave me… Please, don’t break up… Don’t break up.”
An Yu held her body, feeling both sorry for her and a little amused. She said angrily,
“Lin Duxi, you were the one who broke up with me, and now you’re the one who says you don’t want to break up. What are you doing? Having a change of heart, or do you think I’ll always be here waiting for the little bit of affection you’re willing to spare when you’re bored?”
Lin Duxi froze. She looked up, grabbed An Yu with both hands, afraid she would leave her again. Tears welled up in her eyes and a few tears fell, landing on An Yu’s heart, hurting her.
The scene from back then was vivid in her mind. Lin Duxi’s heart felt like it was being crushed. Helplessness and despair once again swept over her. She used all her strength to hold onto An Yu, like a drowning person in the deep sea grabbing onto a floating piece of wood. She spoke incoherently, “I was sick, Ayu. I was sick. Please don’t leave me, Ayu. I don’t want to break up. Please, Ayu, I’ll give you anything you want… Just don’t break up, okay?”
Her head was so dizzy and painful, it felt like it was about to explode, but it was nothing compared to the heartache she felt at this moment. She tried to keep her eyes open and looked at An Yu, hoping that An Yu could see the deep love in her eyes. She grabbed An Yu’s hand and led it to her collar, desperately wanting to prove her love to An Yu.
But An Yu didn’t see it. She only thought that Lin Duxi’s reaction was a bit extreme and was worried that she really had a fever. She managed to break free from Lin Duxi’s grip with one hand and quickly pulled down Lin Duxi’s clothes, covering her fair skin that made people fantasize.
Luckily, the staff had left, and they were the only two here, so no one would be able to film them.
An Yu restrained Lin Duxi and reached out to button up the button she had just unbuttoned. Lin Duxi seemed to be tired from her tantrum and sat quietly in the chair, letting An Yu fix her clothes.
An Yu reached out and touched her forehead. Lin Duxi subconsciously closed her eyes, her long eyelashes trembling slightly. She smiled faintly as if feeling her temperature and also as if expecting her to do more.
So hot.
An Yu frowned and pulled her hand back. Lin Duxi opened her eyes in dissatisfaction. Her dark eyes were still stained with residual tears, making her look especially pathetic.
An Yu sighed and put her hands on her hips, saying helplessly, “You’re right. You really are sick.” She looked into the distance. There was no sign of the staff coming back yet.
“Can you stay here for a while?” she asked.
Lin Duxi’s bright eyes suddenly dimmed, and she became nervous. Was Ayu going to abandon her and leave again? She had only just managed to get her to stay.
She breathed slightly and grabbed An Yu’s sleeve, shaking it gently. “Are you leaving, Ayu?” Her voice was fragile, like a delicate flower that would break with a touch.
An Yu’s heart softened. She sat down and said to Lin Duxi in a soft voice, “You have a fever right now. I need to go get you some fever medicine.”
Lin Duxi rested her head on An Yu’s shoulder and held her arm, saying in a muffled voice, “Will you come back, then?”
An Yu: “Of course, I’ll come back. You still need to take your medicine.”
Lin Duxi’s hand slowly loosened, and she gently smoothed the wrinkled fabric, as if giving her consent.
An Yu got up, looked at Lin Duxi’s lowered head, and couldn’t help but soften her voice. “I’ll be back in a minute. You rest for a bit.” Then she quickly ran towards the filming area.
As the sound of footsteps faded, Lin Duxi slowly raised her head and looked at the mist around her and the fact that she was surrounded by it. She smiled despairingly.
After all that effort and all those years of pain, she finally worked up the courage to test her, but Ayu still didn’t want to accept her?
Her hand on the chair suddenly tightened. The despair and suffocation from just now made her speak recklessly. She only wanted to keep An Yu. She couldn’t even remember what she had said to An Yu.
An yu is so heartless. She can be so cold about the past on one hand, and on the other, she worries about her and helps her get medicine when she has a fever.
