After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 13
The production team had prepared a total of 100 fans for the two of them to sell, and the goal was to sell them all before noon. Anyu asked the shop manager about the store’s daily revenue and found that it was roughly consistent with this number.
However, selling so many fans in just a couple of hours seemed like an impossible task. Anyu hesitated, noting that there were still two hours until noon.
She stood up, moved a small table from the shop outside, and turned to grab a stool. Her eyes met Lin Duxi’s, who had been quietly watching her busy herself. Anyu explained, “I’ll sit outside and draw for a bit—maybe it’ll attract some customers.”
Lin Duxi nodded and helped Anyu carry the necessary supplies outside.
Under the scorching sun, a beautiful, refined woman sat on a square stool under a tree in front of the shop, holding a brush and lightly sketching on a fan. On the chair beside her sat another beautiful woman, gentle and graceful, whose every movement radiated charm. She tilted her head and looked at Anyu, her gaze full of tenderness.
The entire scene was picturesque, like a painting. Even the filming crew seemed captivated, unable to look away for a long time.
“They look perfect together!”
“Even though they’re in modern clothes, it feels like I’m looking at Jiangnan.”
Before long, some shadows fell on Anyu’s table, breaking her concentration. She looked up to see a few women staring at her with curiosity and admiration. She paused her brush and smiled.
“Is there anything you’re interested in?”
One of the women, dressed in a very trendy style, glanced at the fans on Anyu’s table and then back at her. Slowly, she raised her hand, pointing at Anyu.
“You. I’m interested in you.”
Her companions were stunned, exchanging shocked glances. The woman, however, looked at Anyu with a clear and bold gaze.
“Wow, the girl’s got guts!”
“Perhaps the production team is testing Anyu’s feelings.”
Anyu almost lost her composure but forced a polite smile, pretending not to understand. “Do you want me to come with you inside?”
The woman thought for a moment and nodded, gesturing for Anyu to lead her.
“Alright, I’ll go with you.” Anyu stood up, holding the sleeve of the woman’s clothes instead of her hand, and led the group inside. The woman frowned slightly but obediently followed.
Passing by Lin Duxi, who was seated not far away, Anyu glanced at her out of the corner of her eye. Lin Duxi’s smile remained calm, as if nothing could affect her. She watched the group with perfect composure. Anyu dismissed other distracting thoughts and led the women inside the store.
Unseen by Anyu, behind her back, in a part of the scene the camera didn’t capture, Lin Duxi’s hands gripped the stool so tightly that her knuckles turned white. She stared at the hand Anyu had on the woman’s sleeve, her restrained gaze full of jealousy and anger—gone was the previously calm and gentle demeanor.
“Is there anything you like here?” Anyu asked, showing the women around the store. The others quickly chose items, but the trendy woman still hadn’t found what she wanted.
She looked around the store again, frowned, and then turned to Anyu. “Do you have the ones you drew?”
Anyu was momentarily surprised. “No.”
“These weren’t drawn by me, but they look nicer than what I could draw,” she said.
The woman insisted, “I want to buy the ones you drew.”
Anyu hesitated to refuse but remembered the production team’s task. She looked at the unfinished fan outside and said, “My drawing skills aren’t quite good enough to sell yet, but how about I draw one for you as a gift?”
The woman agreed enthusiastically and immediately bought over a dozen fans, saying she wanted to give one to each of her friends and relatives.
Returning to her chair, Anyu decided to focus on drawing a proper painting to thank the woman for her generosity. Her gaze flicked to the spot where Lin Duxi had been, now an empty chair.
Anyu became deeply absorbed in her painting, almost numb to her surroundings. When she finished the requested artwork, she stretched her stiff limbs and looked around, only to find the group had disappeared.
“Are you looking for those ladies just now?” came a familiar, pleasant voice. Anyu turned and met Lin Duxi’s gaze. They were extremely close, so close that Anyu could feel the faint warmth of Lin Duxi’s breath on her cheek.
Lin Duxi immediately stood and created some distance between them. She glanced toward the distance. “The woman was called away by the production team.”
“The production team?” Anyu asked, puzzled.
Lin Duxi nodded. “I ran into them on my way back. Perhaps they bought too many and were mistaken for plants.”
Anyu was surprised, then carefully closed the fan she had just finished, putting it in a box to give to the woman later. Lin Duxi glanced at the painting and said, “Give it to Xiao Hu. It’s break time now; we should go back.”
“Go back?” Anyu asked.
“Yes. The fans have all been sold,” Lin Duxi replied calmly.
“How so quickly? I thought only about twenty were sold,” Anyu said, shocked.
Lin Duxi stepped closer. The sun was hot, so she removed her outer jacket, revealing her fair arms. She reached out and lightly touched Anyu’s hair, her eyes filled with affection.
“Because… I don’t know how to do anything,” she said softly while smoothing Anyu’s messy hair. “So I went out with the staff to promote the fans on the street. It worked quite well. You were focused on your painting, so I didn’t disturb you.”
Anyu grabbed Lin Duxi’s wrist and pushed her hand away. “Thanks, Lin. Looks like I was the one holding things back.”
Lin Duxi didn’t resist. She let Anyu hold her wrist, even wishing the pressure would be a little stronger, leaving a tangible proof of their connection. That way, she could be assured that Anyu cared about her, that Anyu was willing to give her something personal.
But Anyu simply released her hand and looked at her own hands, noticing they were covered in paint. She frowned. “I’ll go wash my hands.”
She handed the fan to a staff member and instructed, “Please give this to Xiao Hu and thank her for me.”
After Anyu left, the staff member looked at the decorated fan, confused. “Xiao Hu? Is that Xiao Hu from props or filming?”
Lin Duxi came over. “Leave it to me. I saw the woman head to the supermarket.”
“Will that be troublesome?” the staff asked.
Lin Duxi smiled. “No, I’m going there to buy something anyway. I’ll deliver it to her.”
She walked slowly, caressing the fan’s box like a precious treasure, her gaze possessive. “Xiao Hu? Can’t it be Xiao Lin?”
Inside the restroom, Anyu scrubbed her hands over and over. The shop’s paint wasn’t water-soluble, and even after many washes, it wouldn’t come off. She closed the tap, sighed heavily, and looked at her colorful hands. It seemed she would have to buy a special cleaning solution on her way to the supermarket.
At that moment, the door opened, and orderly footsteps approached. A moment later, Anyu saw Lin Duxi holding a brand-new bottle of paint remover.
Anyu tilted her head. Lin Duxi smiled softly. “I bought it especially for you while I was at the supermarket,” she said warmly, her voice full of subtle pride.
Anyu took the bottle, pumped some out, and thanked her.
Lin Duxi’s smile didn’t fade. She pumped some of the solution as well and began washing her own hands in the neighboring sink, her gaze occasionally flicking to Anyu’s hands. Seeing Anyu meticulously cleaning, her smile deepened.
Anyu really was… so adorable.
