After Being Cheated, I Had a Flash Marriage with My Ex's Aunt - Chapter 14
Li Sui wasn’t about to lose her head just yet. Instinctively avoiding the topic, she brushed past Shuyi toward the kitchen. “My hands are getting sore from carrying this. I’ll put the cake in the fridge first.”
Shuyi watched her retreat, a helpless smile playing on her lips. She saw right through the girl’s shy evasion. She was deeply interested in Li Sui and wanted to nurture their relationship properly—to make Li Sui fall for her completely. But she also knew better than to push too hard, too fast.
Shuyi arched an eyebrow. “Go ahead and freshen up, then. We’re going out for dinner.”
“Okay,” Li Sui replied with a smile.
When Li Sui emerged from the kitchen, she naturally scooped the blue cat out of Shuyi’s arms. Her voice turned soft and cooing. “Dundun, were you a good boy today?”
“They were both perfect angels,” Shuyi said, her eyes brimming with warmth. she reached out to stroke the cat’s fuzzy head. “I was a good girl, too.”
Li Sui: “…”
Is she flirting with me? Every word Shuyi said lately felt loaded with hidden meaning, making Li Sui’s heart race. She practically fled upstairs to change, while Shuyi’s gaze followed her until she disappeared, a faint, satisfied smirk lingering on the lawyer’s lips.
As they stepped out into the courtyard later, they were met by two unfamiliar women.
Judging by their positions, it was clearly a mistress-and-servant dynamic. The younger woman in the back was a female bodyguard in a crisp black uniform, her hair tied in a high ponytail. She was the picture of stoic professionalism, holding a black suitcase with an aura that screamed “don’t come near.”
The woman in front looked to be in her late thirties. Her features bore a striking thirty-percent resemblance to Shuyi. She was dressed fashionably in a sea-blue qipao, every movement exuding grace and luxury. Despite her expensive aura, her smile was kind and approachable.
Li Sui’s mind raced. I heard Shuyi has two sisters. Is this the eldest or the second?
Before she could reach a conclusion, Shuyi spoke beside her. “Mom.”
Li Sui’s brain stalled for a few seconds. Mom? She looks so young!
“This must be Sui-sui,” Bai Zhilan said, her eyes landing on Li Sui with an immediate sparkle of approval.
Sensing the genuine kindness in the older woman’s gaze, Li Sui offered a polite greeting. “Yes. Hello, Auntie. I’m Li Sui.”
“I hope I’m not intruding,” Zhilan said with a warm laugh. “Shuyi called me this afternoon with a thousand questions about raising cats and left me completely baffled. I figured it was easier to just come over. I hope we aren’t interrupting anything?”
“Not at all,” Li Sui said, her smile shy and well-behaved. She wasn’t used to dealing with elders, but she managed to be a gracious host. “We just got back. Please, come inside and have some tea.”
“Wonderful, let’s head in,” Zhilan beamed.
As they walked, Shuyi pulled her mother aside, her tone a mix of exasperation and resignation. “I told you we’d visit the estate to see you and Dad as soon as she was free.”
Zhilan looked at her daughter and offered a meaningful, teasing smile. “It’s been so long. I had to see for myself what kind of girl you managed to run off with.”
Shuyi’s eyes flickered. “Mom, next time, give us a heads-up.”
Zhilan just laughed. Then, her expression turned serious. “Tell me the truth. Xiao Li looks like she’s still in college. How did you manage to trick her into a marriage certificate?”
Shuyi met her mother’s suspicious gaze, her expression turning slightly defensive. Li Sui was wearing a pink hoodie and jeans; combined with her youthful face and 1.64m height, she really did look like a fresh college student.
“Mom, she’s twenty-four,” Shuyi corrected. “She started her own business in college. She and a partner run a successful animation company. I don’t want you or the rest of the family having any unnecessary prejudices against her.”
“I know what I’m doing,” Zhilan huffed, though her tone softened. “Our family isn’t the type to only care about pedigree. She’s a good girl.”
Zhilan had been curious about who Shuyi was dating—enough to hide it from everyone and elope. She had done a background check and found herself impressed. Li Sui was stunning, yes, but her resume was even better. She was a brilliant businesswoman who ran a company netting tens of millions a year while also investing in the antique trade. To grow up in such a difficult environment and become so resilient… it was truly rare.

Inside, Li Sui quietly prepared the tea. The cats, wary of strangers, had vanished into the shadows, so Li Sui did a quick check of their beds before serving the guests. She was incredibly nervous about making a good impression.
After about ten minutes of tea and small talk, Zhilan signaled to the bodyguard. The black suitcase was opened, revealing a full set of emerald jewelry: natural Imperial Green bracelets, diamond-accented necklaces, earrings, and rings.
Li Sui’s heart skipped a beat. She recognized these—they were high-end auction pieces. Any single item was worth a fortune.
“I thought girls liked jewelry,” Zhilan said, her face glowing. “Consider this a meeting gift. If you like it, I’ll give you another set for the wedding.”
Li Sui instinctively looked at Shuyi, who gave a small, encouraging nod. Still, Li Sui felt lightheaded. “Thank you, Auntie… but these are far too precious.”
Zhilan feigned a look of mock annoyance. “If you call me ‘Auntie’ again, I’m going to be very upset.”
“Mom,” Li Sui whispered, the word feeling unfamiliar on her tongue.
“That’s better!” Zhilan took Li Sui’s hand, her voice turning soft and sincere. “Sui-sui, let me tell you—Shuyi has always been a bit of a loner. She’s never really known how to talk to girls younger than her. I was worried she’d never marry at all. I’m so glad you’re willing to put up with her.”
Zhilan grew more earnest by the second. “If she ever makes you unhappy, you tell me. I’ll teach her a lesson for you.”
Li Sui noticed the emerald bracelet on Shuyi’s wrist and realized that “teaching her a lesson” was a recurring theme with the Bai family elders. She caught Shuyi’s eye and gave a sweet, genuine smile. “She treats me very well.”
Zhilan let out a happy laugh. They spent the next hour chatting over tea, the conversation flowing effortlessly. Eventually, Shuyi checked her watch and tried to nudge her mother toward the door. “Mom, we’re coming to see you tomorrow anyway. It’s late; the drive home won’t be safe.”
“If it’s not safe, then I’ll just stay here tonight,” Zhilan announced. She looked at Li Sui. “Is that alright, dear?”
Li Sui, worried about the night drive, stood up immediately. “Of course. I’ll go prepare a guest room.”
As Li Sui headed upstairs, Shuyi watched her mother’s composed, smug expression. She knew exactly why her mother was staying.
“Since you’re married, it’s not right to sleep in separate rooms,” Zhilan said bluntly once Li Sui was out of earshot. “But… try not to stay up too late.”
“I get it,” Shuyi muttered, feeling a rare surge of bashfulness.
The truth was, they hadn’t even shared a bed yet. But the thought of sleeping in the same room as Li Sui tonight made Shuyi’s heart beat faster than any legal victory ever had.
