After Being Adopted by the Obsessive Male Lead - Chapter 3
The next day, when the sun was high in the sky, smoke continued to curl from a secluded house in Taoyin Town. Anyone approaching the residence would catch the lingering, bitter scent of medicinal herbs.
Inside the simple room, a man dressed in strange clothing lay propped up in bed. His pale hand held a brush, moving across a sheet of white paper. His complexion seemed to blend into the paper itself, possessing a sickly pallor, with only a slight flush at his knuckles from his tight grip. Before long, the white paper was covered in ink.
Chang Le set the brush down and surveyed the overall design. “It should be ready.”
He showed the paper to Qiu He. “I wonder if Miss Qiu recognizes the object in this drawing.”
“A wheelchair? Of course I recognize it. Do you want to build this?” Qiu He examined the drawing closely. Every detail and structural element of the wheelchair’s construction was exceptionally clear, and she couldn’t help but marvel, “Your painting skills are actually this good?”
The two main wheels in the diagram were larger than any she had seen before, with one small wheel in the front and two in the back. It looked stable and easy to propel by oneself.
“Could I trouble you to find a carpenter to make this, Miss Qiu? Once my injuries heal, I will surely repay your kindness and settle this debt.” Chang Le watched her expression carefully. If she showed even a hint of hesitation, he wouldn’t mention it again.
Qiu He spread the drawing out on the table. “There’s no need for a carpenter. Since you’ve already drawn the plans, Jun Wang can make it. I’ll just have a word with him. He works much faster than any carpenter, and he should be back from the mountains soon.”
Jun Wang?
Speaking of him, he hadn’t returned since he left last night. Qiu He hadn’t been surprised when he was missing this morning, assuming instead that he had gone into the mountains. Jun Wang must have provided some sort of excuse beforehand.
It’s a good thing I didn’t recklessly snitch on him.
“Then I’ll trouble you, Miss Qiu.” Chang Le’s lips curved into a smile. With this wheelchair, he would finally be able to get out of bed.
“It’s no trouble. Don’t worry too much about your legs, they will heal in time. It’s not as if you’ll never stand again.” Qiu He always carried a gentle smile when comforting others. Suddenly, as if remembering something, her eyes lit up as she looked over. “I noticed you have no spiritual energy, so you likely don’t belong to any sect. Have you thought about cultivating? Are you interested in joining a sect? Surely, you’ve heard of the Wenling Pavilion?”
Chang Le looked a bit lost. “What kind of place is the Wenling Pavilion?”
Lin Man had never mentioned it.
Qiu He’s round eyes widened. “You even know about the Demon Lord, yet you don’t know about the Wenling Pavilion? Is my sect really that obscure!”
Seeing her dejected look, Chang Le quickly said, “No, no, no. Regarding the path of cultivation, I’ve only vaguely heard of the Tianxuan Sect and know nothing of the others. It is simply my own lack of knowledge.”
“The Tianxuan Sect is the most powerful among the ten great sects of the thirty-six cities of Kyushu, one could say it’s the number one sect in the world.” Qiu He said gloomily, “But it’s very hard to get into. You usually need either a prestigious background or exceptional talent. If you want to cultivate but can’t get into Tianxuan, you should come try the Wenling Pavilion. Although the combat power of medical cultivators is a bit lacking, the merit we accumulate is beyond what other paths can achieve.” Her eyes were full of pride when she spoke of her sect.
Cultivation?
It was such a surreal concept. Chang Le thought that if Lin Yu were here, he would be ecstatic.
However, he wasn’t interested. This was a world inside a book. Although he didn’t know why he had come here, he understood perfectly that he didn’t belong. He wanted to go home and find a way back as soon as possible.
“Speaking of which, Jun Wang’s body is brimming with spiritual power. I wonder which sect he belongs to as an elite disciple. He hasn’t remembered anything these past few days. His master must be worried sick.” Qiu He rested her chin on her hand and sighed, her eyes turning vacant as she fell into thought.
Chang Le asked bluntly, “Miss Qiu, is there affection between you and Jun Wang?”
Qiu He looked surprised, and a flush quickly spread across her sweet face. “You brat, what are you saying? Master Jun and I are perfectly beyond reproach.”
“You care so much about him, Miss Qiu, how could there be no affection?”
Chang Le spoke in a teasing tone. He wanted to know if Qiu He actually had feelings for the Great Demon. Lin Man’s descriptions had been vague, focusing mainly on Qiu He’s resistance against the Demon Lord’s intense possessiveness. But since Qiu He trusted him so much, he couldn’t quite tell if she actually liked him.
“There isn’t, there really isn’t. Oh, I’ll tell you the truth, my heart already belongs to someone else, but we were separated.” Mentioning that person, Qiu He’s clear eyes were filled with infinite tenderness.
Seeing the beautiful picture of a young girl in love, Chang Le’s heart softened. “Why don’t you go look for him?”
“I don’t know where he is, and I don’t know if he still remembers me. If I find him and realize he has forgotten, that would be so painful.” Qiu He looked a bit lonely.
“You are so wonderful, Miss Qiu, how could anyone forget you? He surely remembers, as long as you go look for him.”
Qiu He smiled, her eyes curving into crescents but the warmth didn’t quite reach them. “I’ll go look for him once I’m ready. Let’s not talk about him, drink your medicine.”
Chang Le had no choice but to drink the medicine. He listened to Qiu He talk about interesting stories from the Wenling Pavilion for a while, and soon the effects of the medicine lulled him back to sleep. When he woke up again, he saw someone by his bed.
It was Jun Wang!
