After Becoming the Live-in Scummy Alpha, I Pamper Her with Real Strength - Chapter 21
Hearing the probing tone in Mo Yun’s voice, He Song knew she had taken the bait.
She chuckled lightly. “Of course I’m willing. Whether she’s the head of Mo Group or not doesn’t matter much to me. I’d prefer she spent all her time on me. But do you think that’s possible?”
“You know better than anyone how much she loves her work. Asking her to give that up… That’s absolutely impossible.”
Mo Yun struggled to hide her distaste, putting on a gentle tone. “If she’s no longer in charge, her workload will lighten. She’ll have more time to spend with you, to grow your relationship. Besides, as long as she still holds Mo Group shares, she won’t need to work. You two would still live a life of comfort.”
Then she couldn’t help testing the waters again. “Since the marriage, has Qingran told you anything about her parents?”
He Song shook her head. “She never talks to me about things like that. No matter what I say, she mostly ignores me.”
Mo Yun offered a knowing smile. “She’ll come around. I only ask because I heard her parents left her quite a few wedding gifts…”
He Song tilted her head as if thinking. “Hmm… I think that rings a bell.”
Mo Yun’s heart leapt. “You know about them?”
But He Song quickly shook her head. “I only overheard her assistant mention something when we registered the marriage. I don’t know what the gifts actually are.”
“That’s probably for the best,” Mo Yun said, relieved. So she still doesn’t know she’s inherited that 1% of Mo Group shares from Qingran’s parents.
I was overthinking it. Qingran doesn’t even like her. Why would she tell her anything important?
“You know, Qingran’s still young, and many board members aren’t entirely satisfied with her. They think she lacks experience. Even though her second and third uncles and I have been trying to support her, there’s only so much we can do.”
Mo Yun laid the groundwork carefully. He Song’s ears practically grew calluses before Mo Yun finally got to the point.
“So I’ve already submitted a proposal to the board suggesting that Qingran temporarily step down. We should have a decision by the next shareholders’ meeting.”
He Song put on a delighted expression. “That’s wonderful news, Second Aunt. I’m absolutely on your side in this. I’ll make sure to talk to Qingran—”
“No, don’t tell her!” Mo Yun snapped, then caught herself and softened her tone. “Let’s not bring it up yet. I’m afraid she might take it badly. When the time comes, I’ll inform her myself.”
As if you’d really tell her…
Of course He Song saw through Mo Yun’s manipulative intent. She wanted to quietly strip Mo Qingran of her authority before she could react.
But He Song clearly remembered what Qingran had told her—Mo Yun didn’t yet have the shares or the qualifications to take control of the company. Even with her husband’s support, their combined shares weren’t enough to challenge Qingran.
So what gave her such confidence?
He Song furrowed her brow in feigned concern. “But Second Aunt, Qingran told me that she’s the one in charge. Neither you nor Second Uncle have the authority to overrule her. Are you sure this will work?”
Sorry, Qingran, she thought silently. I might have to throw some shade your way for this to work.
Mo Yun blinked, then smiled faintly. “If you help me, this will be a done deal.”
She produced a contract she’d prepared in advance and handed it to He Song. With her signature, Mo Yun would gain another 1% of support.
He Song raised an eyebrow. “What kind of contract is this?”
Mo Yun explained, “Although you’re not officially a shareholder, you are Qingran’s legal spouse. Signing this contract gives us stronger footing in the boardroom to support the leadership transition.”
“Other shareholders who support me will also be signing similar documents.”
He Song flipped through it. While she couldn’t understand all the legal jargon, it was obvious this wasn’t a good deal for Qingran. She picked up the contract—then set it down again.
Mo Yun narrowed her eyes. “What’s wrong? Don’t you trust me?”
He Song shook her head. “It’s not that. It’s just that… seeing all this talk about shares reminded me—when we got married, Qingran mentioned something about shares too. She said I might even be eligible to attend the board meetings.”
Mo Yun’s face turned an ugly shade of purple. “Shares? What shares?”
He Song said innocently, “Something from her parents, I think? Around 1%. Honestly, it’s kind of stingy. Don’t you think?”
Mo Yun was so furious she could hardly speak. Just under 2%—and this outsider gets 1%?
And she doesn’t even realize how valuable it is?
He Song ignored her expression and added sweetly, “Second Aunt, is 1% a lot? It seems kind of… small.”
Mo Yun forced a smile. “No, no—it’s actually quite a bit. I’m surprised Qingran even told you about it.”
“I know, right?” He Song chirped. “I don’t really understand this whole ‘shareholder’ thing. Feels less real than, say, owning a house. But Qingran said if I stand by her, those shares will be useful someday. Not that I really get it.”
Mo Yun’s expression darkened. She hadn’t expected Qingran to already be working to win He Song over.
Mo Yun replied carefully, “Even if you’re married to her, she hasn’t treated you very well, has she? I’ve been the one helping you all this time. Deep down, I think you know who’s really on your side.”
He Song nodded earnestly. “Of course, Second Aunt. I’ve always said I’ll stand with you. Remember what we agreed before the wedding? That I’d report any move Qingran makes to you?”
Mo Yun was finally satisfied. Fools like her—greedy and dumb—are the easiest to manipulate. Dangle a little reward, and they’ll do your bidding.
“Then go ahead and sign. And from now on, be good and listen to Second Aunt. I’ll never steer you wrong.”
He Song picked up the pen, and Mo Yun watched her intently, feeling victory within reach.
But just as the pen tip hovered above the paper, He Song paused.
“Second Aunt, I feel a little silly saying this, but I’ve never seen what a shareholders’ meeting looks like. Now that I’m technically a shareholder too, why don’t I sign it there instead?”
Mo Yun nearly choked. Talking to He Song was like riding a roller coaster.
“There’s nothing to see. It’s just paperwork.”
“Please, Second Aunt,” He Song said sweetly. “I have to sign it anyway—what’s the rush?”
Mo Yun reconsidered. Maybe bringing her along to the meeting would work in my favor. If everyone sees she supports me, it might sway the others who are still on the fence.
“Fine. We’ll sign it at the next meeting. I’ll let you know the time and send someone to pick you up.”
“Thanks, Second Aunt!”
As the conversation wrapped up, Mo Yun called her beauticians back in and waved He Song off.
He Song didn’t linger. She left in high spirits—only to run into a man pruning the hedges by the garden gate.
He looked exactly like the man from her dream—the one who had embraced Mo Yun. Lin Qiushi, the famous lawyer, and Mo Yun’s husband. They’d met in college and been married for over twenty years.
Handsome and refined on the outside, but full of filth inside.
He played a major role in helping Mo Yun gain influence within Mo Group. He Song’s most vivid memory of him from the novel was when Qingran had been ousted, left all alone. Lin Qiushi had sought her out with an indecent proposal—be his mistress, and he wouldn’t sell the Mo family estate. He’d even “take care of her” for the rest of her life.
His words were disgusting, slimy, arrogant. He was thrown out by Fang Yuan on the spot.
So now, seeing this seemingly charming man bathed in golden sunlight, He Song felt a powerful urge to punch him.
Still thinking of laying a finger on Mo Qingran? Disgusting.
She strolled past the garden and stopped beside him. Looking up at the branch he was trimming, she commented coldly, “That cut is hideous.”
Lin Qiushi turned, surprised by the voice. When he saw He Song, a flicker of interest flashed in his eyes. “Proper pruning helps the tree grow better,” he replied smoothly. “You must be one of Yun’er’s guests?”
“Yes. I came to see Second Aunt,” He Song replied.
Lin Qiushi blinked. “You call her Second Aunt?”
He Song flashed a dazzling smile. “Yes. Nice to meet you—I’m He Song, Mo Qingran’s legal spouse.”
Lin Qiushi stammered a few times, visibly rattled. “I… I thought Qingran wouldn’t get married so soon.”
Seeing his dazed look, He Song slapped his back heartily. “Fate waits for no one. When it hits, it hits.”
He coughed violently and tried to dodge, only to be hit again.
“I’m Lin Qiushi—Yun’er’s husband,” he offered, extending a hand. They shook briefly.
But as He Song tried to pull back, he gripped her hand harder.
What the—? She looked up to see a faintly suggestive look in his eyes and nearly laughed.
First meeting and already trying to flirt? This guy really hits on anything that moves.
What He Song didn’t know was that Lin Qiushi’s cheating was an open secret in private circles.
Not big enough to go public, but Mo Yun knew all about it. From assistants to clients, he was never short on women. Their supposedly perfect marriage was nothing more than an illusion they both maintained. Mo Yun spent a fortune each month paying off his mistresses and keeping things quiet.
He didn’t know when to stop—he’d even flirted with Mo Qingran in front of her. She was nearly driven mad.
If it weren’t for their shared interests, the marriage would’ve ended long ago.
He Song didn’t back down from his grip.
Oh, you want to play games? Let’s see whose grip is stronger.
Lin Qiushi suddenly felt her soft hand start applying crushing pressure. Her fingers twisted against his thumb joint.
He cried out in pain and tried to pull away, but she yanked him closer.
“Aaah! Stop—let go—ahh!”
A sickening crack echoed in his head. His thumb drooped, lifeless.
He collapsed to the ground in pain, calling for help in terror.
He Song turned to leave, but he grabbed her pant leg with his uninjured hand, his face twisted in rage.
“Where do you think you’re going?! This isn’t over! Someone—break her hand!”
He Song kicked his hand away and drove her foot into his gut.
He curled up in agony, whimpering like a boiled shrimp. She crouched beside his head and whispered coldly, “If I ever find out you’re still eyeing Mo Qingran, it won’t just be your thumb I break.”
With a satisfied smirk, she walked away, humming.
Sure enough, not long after she left, Mo Yun called.
He Song raged on the phone about how Lin Qiushi had harassed her and even demanded an apology.
“I heard from Qingran that he’s done it to her, too. And now he’s pulling this on me? Second Aunt, how can you stay with a man like that?”
“People talk about how great your marriage is—but how many affairs is he hiding? I ought to expose him to the press.”
Mo Yun choked on her words, swallowing her anger. “He… he was just being foolish. I’ll apologize on his behalf. You know how the media is—they blow everything out of proportion. Please, don’t take it to heart.”
