After Becoming Roommates with an Obnoxious Wealthy Heiress - Chapter 1
I’ll count to three; get in here with your raggedy bag.
“Qin Shuyue, stop causing trouble for the school, do you hear me? Handle your own business and stop calling me.”
“Shuyue, you’re twenty years old. You don’t need a father anymore.”
“Do you understand?”
This was the last phone call Qin Shuyue had received from her father in nearly two months.
His words were utterly ruthless. On the other end of the line, Qin Shuyue could only lower her head and bite her lip.
She kept her head down, her mouth trembling slightly, before finally managing to murmur, “Dad, about Mom’s condition…”
Beep— beep— beep—
Before she could finish, the call was heartlessly disconnected.
He was always this cold.
Qin Shuyue let her hand fall despondently. She gripped her phone so tightly that her slender fingers turned white at the tips. Warm sunlight filtered through the layers of branches, scattering fragments of light across her shoulders. She looked up at the piercing brightness, but the glare only forced a single tear to escape her eye.
Three years ago, she had been the pearl in her parents’ palms, pampered and cherished.
Who could have guessed that a sudden disaster would strike? In just three short years, her life had been churned into a chaotic mess. Her father had an affair, and her mother was in critical condition following a car accident. Faced with astronomical hospital bills, she had to shoulder the burden entirely on her own. She had to seize every spare second to work desperately for money.
As if her life wasn’t miserable enough, social difficulties… made everything worse.
Socializing. At the thought of it, Qin Shuyue’s right hand instinctively moved to her left arm, rubbing it back and forth as a heavy expression clouded her face.
This was why she had resolutely decided to change dorms.
She had worked hard to secure the opportunity to transfer, and the only thing left was her parent’s signature of consent. But her parents…
The one who should care didn’t, and the one who wanted to care couldn’t.
Her heart was a tangled mess of emotions. The man who had raised her, the one she had always seen as a gentle and composed father, turned out to have a completely different face.
Qin Shuyue took a long, deep breath, but the air she exhaled felt as heavy as an invisible boulder. Looking ahead, she gazed toward the new dormitory building in the distance; her heart didn’t feel even slightly lighter.
What would her new roommate be like? Would they be easy to get along with?
Watching the minutes tick away, Qin Shuyue knew she couldn’t delay any longer. She dragged her suitcase slowly toward the dormitory building, her heart racing for some unknown reason, her mind a whirl of chaotic thoughts.
Lost in her daze, she entered the new building and glanced down at the transfer information on her phone.
Yueqi Garden F1, Room 601, Quadruple Suite.
Stepping into this building for the first time, Qin Shuyue’s primary impression was its sheer size—the lighting was excellent, and the space was vast. The entire first floor was a lobby with no residential rooms. Near the entrance sat a service desk.
Qin Shuyue’s heart hammered against her ribs, and her breathing grew heavy. She couldn’t help but wonder… how much was the annual boarding fee here?
She didn’t dare think about it further.
Her fingertips trembled. Her instinct was to flee—to grab her suitcase and run away from this “magnificent” dormitory. But then, her father’s warning about not causing more trouble flashed through her mind.
Just as she paused, her suitcase was naturally taken from her hand. A light, brisk voice, as clear as a silver bell, came from behind her.
“Hello, Miss. I am Yu Yu, a concierge specialist from Heqing. I will help you with your luggage. Would it be convenient to tell me your room number? I will—”
Qin Shuyue’s mind went blank. She spun around instantly, her eyes filled with panic as she looked at the girl already holding her suitcase.
When Yu Yu smiled, two standard dimples appeared on her cheeks, making her look completely harmless. Her eyes held a sense of respect for this flustered young woman.
However, this strange show of respect only made Shuyue more uncomfortable. Her face turned bright red, and she didn’t know where to put her hands. her eyes darted around unnaturally, landing everywhere except on the girl in the meticulously fitted suit and perfectly tied black bowtie.
Qin Shuyue felt utterly humiliated. Looking at her dirty, grey suitcase held by the girl’s clean, white-gloved hand… she was only afraid that her luggage was too filthy and would soil those gloves.
Only one thought remained in her head: grab the suitcase back and vanish instantly.
“Don’t… please don’t look at me like that,” she stammered, her face flushed crimson, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.
Fortunately, the elevator doors opened. With a quick movement, she snatched her suitcase back and bolted into the elevator like a streak of lightning. She frantically mashed the “close door” button. The doors finally slid shut slowly, but she realized she had forgotten to press the floor number.
She checked the floor on her phone and hammered the button for the 6th floor.
As the elevator finally ascended, she let out a long sigh of relief, her body gradually relaxing from its state of high tension. She covered her chest with both hands; her heart was beating so fast it felt like it might jump out at any moment.
Back in the lobby, the girl who had tried to help her was left staring, dumbfounded. She had never seen a “Lady” flee in such a frantic manner.
Yu Yu looked down and saw something lying on the floor. She leaned over to pick it up. Upon seeing what it was, her expression turned to one of pure horror. She rushed to the elevator doors, trying to stop the ascent.
“Miss Qin! Are you trying to ruin me?!” Yu Yu cried out in desperation, watching the elevator climb steadily.
Ding~ With a crisp, pleasant chime, the elevator stopped at the sixth floor.
Qin Shuyue stepped out with her luggage, and her jaw dropped at the sight. This wasn’t a dormitory; it looked more like a high-end luxury villa district. Looking out through the glass windows, she saw a view of the campus unlike any other—an eagle-eye perspective where everyone’s movements were visible. Just standing there was enough to make one feel refreshed.
But Qin Shuyue felt a wave of panic. She doubted herself. Did I go to the right room?
This place was built entirely to the standards of a top-tier five-star hotel’s presidential suite. Compared to the dorm she lived in during her freshman year, there was no comparison at all. The luxury made her feel deeply uneasy.
She desperately wanted to turn around and leave this extravagant place immediately. But she couldn’t. Her father had warned her. It was better not to cause any more trouble.
Since it had come to this, she could only bite the bullet and knock.
Knock, knock, knock.
Qin Shuyue tapped gently three times and waited for a response. Before knocking, she had heard a strange sound coming from the room, but it stopped the moment she touched the door.
Fearing she would be ignored, she quickly added, “Hello, I… I’m the new roommate.”
“Roommate?” a girl’s voice muttered from inside. She sounded annoyed, her brow furrowed in displeasure.
Was this another person that old man sent to pester her? Couldn’t he come up with a new trick? She had warned him sternly not to play these games anymore.
“Tsk,” she clicked her tongue impatiently and gave her computer desk a light kick. That old man.
Her impatient gaze flickered upward, landing on the content of her computer screen. Her eyes flashed, and a wicked smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
If I can’t drive them away, I’ll scare them away.
She pushed her chair back abruptly, stood up, and strode to the door. Her tall, elegant figure blocked the doorway as she looked down with sheer disdain at her timid “new” roommate.
The girl in the doorway had a firm, powerful waist, barely covered by a loose white shirt that hung off her frame, faintly outlining her strong obliques and exuding an indefinable sense of tension. A faint flush lingered on her cheeks, as if it hadn’t yet faded.
Qin Shuyue had rehearsed this countless times in her head, but because of her long-term lack of social interaction, her mind went blank. Her heart beat so wildly it felt like a drum.
“He-hello… I, I am Qin Shuyue,” she stammered.
Qin Shuyue reach out a hand in a panicked attempt at a greeting, but it only met thin air. She hurriedly pulled her hand back. Her face turned so red from the rejection that it looked like it might bleed. Compared to her, the faint flush on the other girl’s face was nothing.
Zhu Lingyi hadn’t done anything—she hadn’t even spoken a word. Yet, seeing Qin Shuyue shrinking back like a startled quail, she frowned. This woman didn’t seem like someone the old man would send. At least, they usually weren’t this timid.
Qin Shuyue resolved to make a good impression. She took a deep breath and suddenly looked up.
Zhu Lingyi instinctively moved to block her view, but it was useless. Qin Shuyue saw everything.
She hurriedly lowered her head. Her face was now visibly crimson, looking like it might drip blood. Zhu Lingyi narrowed her eyes, observing her—the girl was redder than a ripe persimmon.
Zhu Lingyi watched her reaction with growing interest. Sensing the gaze, Qin Shuyue’s newfound courage deflated instantly. She curled her body inward, trying to lower her presence.
Watching this sequence of movements, Zhu Lingyi raised an eyebrow. Interesting.
She let out a faint smirk, turned around, and walked back into the room. She waved a hand dismissively, her voice lazy. “Come in.”
The tone was as casual as a tiger granting a lamb permission to enter its territory.
But Qin Shuyue hesitated. She looked around, biting her lip. To step in or not? She felt like a lamb entering an unfamiliar field, instinctively wary of everything in the environment.
She hadn’t forgotten what she had just seen on her roommate’s computer. The computer was playing a movie… and it featured two women! They were…
The images had shocked her vision and upended her world. In these few minutes, her brain had gone through several short-circuits and reconnections.
Meanwhile, Zhu Lingyi leaned against the desk, watching with amusement as the “lamb’s” gaze flickered confusedly between the computer screen and herself. It was like watching a young girl discover a new world.
Zhu Lingyi narrowed her eyes, wanting to probe what was inside the “lamb’s” head, but Qin Shuyue’s face suddenly returned to its initial expressionless state.
“Tsk, boring.” Zhu Lingyi crunched down on the mint lollipop in her mouth, pulled the stick out, and tossed it carelessly onto the table. Her expression returned to its usual coldness and detachment.
She looked at Qin Shuyue and held up three fingers. “I’m counting to one. If you haven’t brought your raggedy bag inside by then, you can go back to wherever you came from. Got it?”
Hearing this, Qin Shuyue finally reacted. Go back to wherever I came from?
Send her away? No. Absolutely not!
Before Zhu Lingyi’s fingers could even reach “two,” she had already dashed into the room with her bag.
But just as one foot crossed the threshold and before she could pull the other one in, an urgent, panting voice called out from behind her.
“Wait! Miss Zhu… and Miss Qin… wait, please wait a moment!”
Zhu Lingyi shot a freezing glare toward the voice, while Qin Shuyue turned around, her face full of confusion.
