After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Was Spoiled by a Sweet Omega - Chapter 5
At the same time,
Meng Xi was soaking a towel, her movements gentle as she wiped the sweat from Yu Yazhi’s brow.
After taking a strong suppressant, Yu Yazhi slowly opened her heavy eyes. Seeing it was Meng Xi, the panic in her gaze softened.
“Why are you still here?”
She had lost too much fluid; her lips were cracked, her voice hoarse—fragile as a sickly beauty.
Relieved to see her awake, Meng Xi quickly handed her a cup of water. “President Yu, have some water first. How do you feel? Should I call a doctor?”
Yu Yazhi took the cup, drank a few sips, then said softly, “No need. I’m fine. Just exhausted, no strength left. You can go back now. Thank you for tonight.”
“It’s no trouble at all. President Yu, I’m worried about you. Let me stay a little longer.”
“No need.”
Yu Yazhi was proud and stubborn. Even with someone she trusted as much as Meng Xi, she didn’t want to be seen in such a wretched state. Her voice chilled: “Go back early and rest. If you’re not tired, check over this quarter’s financial report for the hotel before bed. Tomorrow morning at eight, come pick me up. I have to report at Yu Corporation.”
Meng Xi knew Yu Yazhi was a workaholic.
Normally she would have agreed without question, but seeing her like this, she couldn’t help but worry. “President Yu, why don’t you rest at home tomorrow? It won’t hurt to go to the corporation the day after.”
Yu Yazhi disliked anyone interfering with her decisions. Her brows knitted. “I know my own body. You’re my assistant. Remember your place.”
The words were heavy.
Meng Xi’s face stiffened, the hurt flickering in her eyes. Her lips moved, but she said nothing.
Seeing this, Yu Yazhi knew she was only worried. A trace of softness slipped into her tone. “Go on. Be careful on the road.”
Meng Xi had no choice but to leave.
Before she did, she knocked on Aunt Wu’s bedroom door, asking her to keep a closer eye on Yu Yazhi.
Aunt Wu agreed. After sending Meng Xi off, she went straight into Yu Yazhi’s room.
Yu Yazhi asked her about what happened after she fainted.
At that, Aunt Wu’s expression soured. “That Miss Ning is truly heartless. You were suffering so much, and she just stood there watching you collapse—didn’t even lift a finger to help. Miss, little quarrels between couples are normal. Fight at the head of the bed, make up at the foot. But you two she won’t even share the bed with you.”
That last part might wound her young lady’s pride, so Aunt Wu stopped herself and changed tack. “Miss, before marriage you endured your heats, after marriage you’re still enduring them. If you can’t count on Miss Ning, wouldn’t it be better to cut ties cleanly?”
Her affection for Yu Yazhi extended to her view of Ning Xuan.
But tonight, Ning Xuan’s indifference had truly chilled her.
Yu Yazhi, however, thought of how she herself had rejected Ning Xuan. That refusal had made Aunt Wu misunderstand, and guilt pricked her chest. “Actually it’s not what you think.”
“Then what is it?”
Yu Yazhi: “…”
Yu Yazhi couldn’t answer. Instead, she deflected, “Aunt Wu, I’m tired.”
Aunt Wu: “…”
She shut her mouth but did not leave, staying by her bedside.
Yu Yazhi didn’t drive her away again. She closed her eyes, but her mind spun restlessly. On this very bed earlier, she and Ning Xuan.
Her hand brushed her now-dry glands. Today she had released so much pheromone uncontrollably yet Ning Xuan hadn’t marked her. Even at the critical moment, she had held herself back.
Had that scoundrel really changed?
And then there was her pheromone.
Yu Yazhi couldn’t lie to herself the crisp, cool sweetness of Ning Xuan’s scent, she liked it.
No!
The moment the word like flashed in her mind, she shook her head violently. Impossible! She didn’t like Ning Xuan one bit. In fact, many of the things Ning Xuan had done only made her loathe her.
It must have been because she was half out of her mind with torment. Any Alpha’s pheromones would have felt like salvation.
With that thought, Yu Yazhi finally drifted off.
One night passed.
The gentle morning light streamed through the window.
Yu Yazhi opened her eyes, got out of bed, showered, and changed into an ivory dress. With light makeup, her pale face carried a touch of delicate softness.
Tap, tap.
Her silver heels clicked against the stairs as she descended.
Ning Xuan had woken early. She sat on the sofa, playing on her phone while waiting for breakfast.
Hearing the sound, she looked up and froze. So the Ice Queen is going for a demure look today?
Their eyes met.
Only for two seconds before Yu Yazhi turned away coldly.
Ning Xuan: “…”
Figures. Gentle appearance, same bad temper.
At the long dining table.
Ning Xuan buried her head in her food.
Yu Yazhi, meanwhile, studied the financial report Meng Xi had sent, every movement exuding the poised elegance of a society heiress.
That air of nobility was something carved into her very bones.
Ning Xuan admired her for a moment before breaking the invisible ice wall between them. “Yazhi, are you feeling better?”
Her own voice was raspy.
Yu Yazhi frowned at the sound. “What’s wrong with your throat?”
Aunt Wu had just placed a plate of fruit salad on the table. Hearing this, she didn’t wait for Ning Xuan to answer before blurting out, “Must be heatiness. Looks pretty serious too.”
Her tone carried a hint of schadenfreude: Hmph, serves you right. Refuse to help Miss through her heat, and now you’re the one suffering.
Ning Xuan really was overheated.
Last night she’d been affected by the pheromones of two ogas—especially Yu Yazhi’s. That scent had clung to her all night, haunting her with spring-dreams one after another.
Of course, none of that could be said aloud.
She forced a casual smile. “I’m fine. Probably just stayed up too late. I was reading the show script last night.”
That part, at least, was true.
She hadn’t been able to fall asleep, so she’d looked for something to do. Remembering the script, she read straight through until three in the morning.
Even then, she’d slept poorly, only to drag herself up at dawn.
Yu Yazhi, unaware of the truth, regarded her words with suspicion: This dedicated?
Catching the doubt in Yu Yazhi’s eyes, Ning Xuan said seriously, “I really was reading the script. I swear, it wasn’t any kind of adult video.”
Yu Yazhi: “…”
Honestly, the latter sounded more in character for her.
Cool and restrained as she was, Yu Yazhi had no intention of dignifying that supposed hobby. Her voice was cold: “Ning Xuan, there are only two people at this table. If you’ve got something to say, say it directly. Don’t make up nonsense.”
Ning Xuan: “…”
So now I’m polluting her ears just by talking?
Fine. A kind heart mistaken for donkey liver and lungs! Let this princess bask in her own perfection.
Since she’d had enough to eat anyway, Ning Xuan set down her utensils and got up to leave.
Yu Yazhi suddenly frowned. She slammed her cup onto the table, clutching the back of her neck with one hand as a pained hiss escaped her lips.
Ning Xuan noticed immediately and rushed forward. “What’s wrong?”
“Stay back!”
Yu Yazhi barked the order, startling Ning Xuan into freezing where she stood. She didn’t dare move, just watched.
Yu Yazhi frowned deeper, bewildered. She’d already used a strong suppressant that morning, so why was her gland reacting now?
Aunt Wu, alarmed, hurried over. “Miss, what’s wrong? Should I ask Assistant Meng to bring a doctor here?”
“No need.”
Yu Yazhi glanced at the time, her expression darkening. “I’ll go to the hospital myself.”
She quickly texted Meng Xi, telling her to postpone the report meeting at Yu Corporation. Then she grabbed her bag, picked up her car keys, and headed out.
Aunt Wu wasn’t reassured. She followed, protesting, “Miss, I don’t feel safe with you driving like this.”
Her eyes flicked to Ning Xuan, and she gave her a little push. “Why not let Miss Ning take you instead?”
Ning Xuan: “…”
Sitting at home, yet calamity drops from the sky.
And so, two unwilling companions ended up driving together to Shenzhen First People’s Hospital.
As a public figure, Ning Xuan put on a khaki baseball cap before they left, the brim pulled low. A plain white T-shirt and black jeans completed the look, simple, but on her it radiated youthful charm.
Definitely not the flamboyant “butterfly” style of the original owner.
Yu Yazhi, on the other hand, wore a tailored blazer. Instantly transformed into a corporate powerhouse, she looked less like a patient than someone coming to acquire the hospital itself.
Half an hour later.
The luxury car rolled into the underground parking garage.
Ning Xuan thought her job was done, drop her off and leave. Yu Yazhi hadn’t said a word the whole ride, clearly uninterested in company. But remembering how distressed she’d been at home, Ning Xuan hesitated, then got out too.
Yu Yazhi spotted her and said coolly, “You don’t need to come.”
Ning Xuan stiffened her neck. “I promised Aunt Wu I’d bring you here. Naturally, I’ll also make sure you get back safely.”
Yu Yazhi: “…”
At that, Yu Yazhi let out a soft, humorless laugh. She hardly believed Ning Xuan was someone who kept promises.
Most likely, after finishing the show taping, she had nothing else on her plate. With this sudden change of attitude, she was probably eyeing some resource she couldn’t get on her own and now wanted Yu Yazhi’s help. Otherwise, why the drastic turnaround?
Having worked out the “reason,” Yu Yazhi no longer objected. She simply thought of her as an extra hand to order around.
The two walked side by side.
Neither noticed the nearby car, where two men were crouched inside, watching them with barely contained excitement.
One tall, one short, both stared in disbelief at the pair passing in front of their windshield.
“Holy shit!”
The short one smacked his companion’s arm. “Tiger, that’s Miss Yu herself!”
Tiger had just lit a cigarette. The slap almost burned his hand, and he swore. “I’m not blind! Of course I see her.”
They were paparazzi.
They’d come to stake out Bai Meng, who’d reportedly spent last night partying at a hotel and ended up hospitalized. They’d hoped to catch some juicy scoop, but after waiting all night, they hadn’t even seen Bai Meng’s shadow. She must have slipped out another way.
Disheartened, they were about to leave empty-handed until they stumbled on Yu Yazhi.
And Yu Yazhi was no ordinary socialite.
The eldest daughter of one of Shenzhen’s four great families, the Yu family’s crown princess, the manager of SY International Hotel and blessed with a face that could outshine the entire entertainment industry. Online, her fame rivaled even that of her celebrity wife, Ning Xuan.
A jackpot!
Tiger immediately flicked away his cigarette, snatched up his camera, and gritted his teeth. “Keep your eyes peeled. When they come out, take as many shots as you can especially of that woman beside her. Yu Yazhi’s only been married to
Ning Xuan for six months, and now she’s already with someone else? Ha! Brother, we’ve struck gold!”
Snapping stars was child’s play.
Landing dirt on a wealthy heir or heiress—that was the real prize.
And today, fortune had handed them Yu Yazhi on a silver platter.
“Wait a second, Tiger. That woman with her, she looks kind of familiar.”
“What do you mean?”
Tiger smacked his partner’s head, annoyed. “Don’t you dare tell me that’s Ning Xuan. Impossible! Everyone knows this couple is all show and no substance. What, are you blind already? Just shut up and keep your eyes on them!”
