After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Was Spoiled by a Sweet Omega - Chapter 24.1 (1)
Su Manyun didn’t know the exact timing of Ning Xuan’s susceptibility period.
After all, she wasn’t the one who usually spent the most time with her—Zhao Luoluo was.
At the wheel, Zhao Luoluo had also overheard their conversation. She kept her eyes on the road, brow furrowed.
“Don’t rush me, let me think.”
Just as she was racking her brain, a wave of tingling heat surged through Ning Xuan’s body again, spreading upward like an electric current straight to her glands at the nape of her neck. This time it was even stronger than before.
She frowned, struggling to endure it, and reached up to touch her gland.
Since last night’s spring dream, she’d already placed a suppressant patch there. Now, even the lightest brush of her fingers made her body shudder uncontrollably.
Damn it!
This was bad. Really bad.
She didn’t need confirmation anymore—this was definitely her susceptibility period.
Just as Ning Xuan arrived at that conclusion herself, Zhao Luoluo slapped her forehead and exclaimed in alarm,
“Ah! Xuan-jie, that’s right—you are due for your susceptibility period these days. Sorry, I totally forgot.”
Ning Xuan: “…”
Ning Xuan let out a sigh. She didn’t have the energy to blame her for remembering so late.
Su Manyun, on the other hand, nearly raised her hand to knock Zhao Luoluo on the head. But since she was driving, she restrained herself and scolded instead:
“How could you forget something like this? What’s in your brain, seawater? Get her to the hospital right away for a checkup.”
She knew Ning Xuan’s relationship with Yu Yazhi was strained—a paper-thin marriage at best. Entering susceptibility period under those circumstances was no small matter.
“I—oh, okay!” Zhao Luoluo stammered, guilty.
Through the rearview mirror, she caught sight of Ning Xuan’s pale face and felt even more self-reproachful. Checking the GPS, she quickly rerouted to the nearest hospital.
It was midday, the traffic was smooth, and they didn’t hit any jams.
Fifteen minutes later, Zhao Luoluo parked steadily in front of the hospital.
Su Manyun handed Ning Xuan a hat, sunglasses, and a mask, then instructed Zhao Luoluo to stay with the car and keep an eye out for paparazzi. The last embarrassing incident couldn’t be allowed to happen again.
Inside the Hospital
Su Manyun escorted Ning Xuan through the side passage and quickly arranged the necessary examinations.
After being tossed around by all the machines, Ning Xuan felt a little drained, but overall she seemed fine—not the least bit weak or sickly. At most, she just looked like someone who had finished an intense workout, her face carrying a trace of fatigue.
Half an hour later, the test results were ready.
The attending physician, a middle-aged woman in a white coat with heavy black-framed glasses, glanced at Ning Xuan, then at the report in her hand. Her expression grew stern as she let out a soft sigh.
That sigh nearly scared Ning Xuan out of her wits.
What was that supposed to mean? Did she not have a susceptibility period, but instead some kind of terminal illness?
Watching the doctor slowly tap at the keyboard, Ning Xuan’s anxiety spiked. She didn’t even dare to ask.
But she didn’t feel like there was anything seriously wrong with her body.
Then, suddenly, she recalled—last time Dr. Chen Ying had given her two bottles of “tonics,” and even Bai Meng had mocked her for being weak.
Could something really be wrong with her?
Or maybe the original host had overexerted herself so badly that she’d left the body completely worn out?
Her mind spun with messy, terrifying possibilities.
For a moment, it felt as if all the color had drained from the world.
She was still so young—she didn’t want to die before her time!
“Alright, go get your prescription,” the doctor finally said.
She didn’t lift her head, only glanced at Ning Xuan over her glasses and sighed again.
“Ah, young people these days.”
Ning Xuan could no longer hold back:
“Doctor, what’s going on with me? You keep sighing like that—I was already starting to plan my funeral!”
Her words were blunt.
The doctor froze, then adjusted her glasses and frowned.
“What nonsense are you spouting, young lady? It’s just a normal susceptibility period. But your endocrine imbalance is rather severe. Are you married? If not, do you at least have a partner?”
Ning Xuan: “…”
Ning Xuan was dumbstruck.
Endocrine imbalance? Wasn’t that just a polite way of saying she was unsatisfied?
How utterly mortifying.
Thank heavens she still had her mask on.
Before she could answer, the doctor continued:
“If you don’t have a partner, you’ll have to rely on medication for now. But don’t depend on drugs too much. All medicine has side effects. If you keep this up long-term, your pheromone system will become unstable. Eventually, even the strongest suppressants won’t work. Aside from that, there’s no major issue. Go pay the fee.”
Without another word, the doctor bent back over her files, quickly marked the diagnosis in the computer, and called toward the door:
“Next!”
Ning Xuan felt like she’d just gotten off a roller coaster. But at least she wasn’t dying. The lump stuck in her throat finally loosened, and her heart sank back into place.
Su Manyun, waiting on a bench outside, rushed over when she saw her come out.
“Well? What did the doctor say? Is it serious?”
How was she supposed to explain?
Ning Xuan had been terrified, thank you very much.
Patting her chest to steady herself, she handed over the report.
After reading it, Su Manyun finally relaxed.
“Good. Nothing serious. Sit here, I’ll go pick up the medicine.”
She fetched the prescription, and once they got back to the car, suggested they eat lunch first.
Zhao Luoluo drove them to a private restaurant.
While waiting for the food, Su Manyun ordered her favorites, then pulled out her tablet to check Ning Xuan’s upcoming schedule. Fortunately, the variety show wasn’t set to start filming again until next week, leaving Ning Xuan enough time to rest.
“After we eat, Luoluo, you’ll drop me back at the office,” Su Manyun said, glancing up as the waiter brought in the dishes. She picked up her chopsticks and added, “This afternoon you and Xuan-jie don’t have any pressing matters, right? Take her for a spa session, let her relax. With her susceptibility period coming up, the less disturbance, the better. She should just rest at home.”
Ning Xuan almost choked on her food.
Were they overreacting or what? It was just a susceptibility period—not like giving birth.
Besides, the doctor had given her medication. What was the big deal?
She was a woman with a career to build!
“Sister Yun, I’m fine. If there’s suitable work, take it for me. I’ll cooperate. I’m not that fragile.”
Su Manyun rolled her eyes while chewing.
“Xuan, stop being difficult. An Alpha in susceptibility period must rest properly, or else their emotions can spiral out of control. Who knows what you’ll do then? Listen to me—I’ll speak with Screenwriter Xu. You don’t worry about work for now.”
Seeing her manager’s firm attitude, Ning Xuan didn’t argue further.
Fine. She could use the time off to study war films.
Still, they were acting as if she was about to go into labor.
The doctor had replaced her suppressant patch at the hospital earlier, so by now Ning Xuan was already feeling back to her lively self.
Tch.
Susceptibility period—people made it sound scarier than it was.
Even if her body had some reaction, it still wasn’t as terrifying as having Yu Yazhi as the object of her spring dream.
The thought of Yu Yazhi made Ning Xuan suddenly remember something. She turned to Zhao Luoluo:
“Right, Luoluo, did you have someone clean my old place?”
Zhao Luoluo looked up blankly.
“It’s been cleaned. Why?”
Ning Xuan replied casually, “Oh, nothing. I might move back soon, so I was just asking.”
Zhao Luoluo: “…”
Su Manyun: “…”
Su Manyun had been with Ning Xuan long enough to know her thoughts were hard to guess—but at least she wasn’t fickle. And now she wanted to move back already?
“Ning Xuan, what’s going on? When you moved in with Yu Yazhi, you didn’t consult me. You’ve only been there a short while and now you want to move out? Do you realize this is just feeding the media more gossip? As your manager, I won’t allow it. You’ll stay put.”
Great. She really had dug her own grave this time.
Feeling stifled, Ning Xuan didn’t want to say anything more. Just then, her phone rang.
The name Yu Yazhi flashed across the screen. Almost instinctively, without thinking, she answered immediately.
Because she picked up so quickly, Yu Yazhi was caught off guard, pausing for a second. Only after confirming the call had connected did she say coolly:
“Family dinner tonight. Be there.”
