After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Was Spoiled by a Sweet Omega - Chapter 16
Zhao Luoluo hit the gas and sped away in a flash.
Ning Xuan stared at the rapidly disappearing car, the smile on her face stiffening. Damn it, Zhao Luoluo, couldn’t you read the room a little?
Great. Now it was just her and Yu Yazhi, alone.
She had the ominous feeling this dinner might as well be her last meal.
Forcing herself to stay calm, Ning Xuan withdrew her gaze, glanced at Yu Yazhi, and gave a graceful smile.
“Yazhi, shall we go in?”
Yu Yazhi said nothing, simply stepped forward.
A young waitress led them into a private dining room.
All the while, the waitress stole glances at Ning Xuan, her eyes unable to hide her admiration.
Yu Yazhi noticed—and wasn’t pleased. Her brows drew together, though she didn’t say anything.
Ning Xuan didn’t pick up on this detail. She took the menu, pointed randomly at a few signature dishes, and prayed for this battlefield to end quickly.
Thankfully, throughout the meal, Miss Yu didn’t make trouble for her.
After a sip of lemon water, Ning Xuan quietly hoped Yu Yazhi would be the first to say goodbye.
But Yu Yazhi, unaware of Ning Xuan’s wish, misread her endless sipping of water as hesitation. Waiting and waiting, when Ning Xuan still hadn’t spoken, she finally met her eyes and said directly:
“Ning Xuan, let’s cut to the chase. You’ve gone to all this trouble—what is it you want from me this time?”
She knew this woman well. Ning Xuan never offered kindness for free. It always came with strings attached.
What she didn’t expect was that this time, Ning Xuan seemed more sincere than ever.
But people don’t change. At best, they just learn to put on a steadier face.
Ning Xuan froze, lowering her glass with a dazed look.
“Huh? Want something? I don’t.”
She blinked at Yu Yazhi, then quickly recovered.
“Wait, yes, yes—I do!”
Yu Yazhi’s expression screamed I knew it. Something inside her cracked, though her outward tone stayed aloof and calm.
“Go on. What is it?”
Ning Xuan’s eyes flickered, her expression turning serious as she hesitated briefly.
“Yazhi, if you insist on thanking me, then I don’t want anything in return. I just want a chance.”
Yu Yazhi frowned.
“A chance? What kind of chance?”
Seeing her confusion, Ning Xuan rushed to explain:
“I don’t mean anything else. It’s just, I’ve been too busy with work lately and haven’t had time to be with you. I hope you’re not angry.
And about all the stupid things I did before—if I upset you in any way, I hope you can let it go. Give me a chance to prove myself. Because the truth is, people aren’t always what they seem on the surface.”
That’s right. If she had a shot, she had to break through the young lady’s prejudice against her.
Otherwise, living on the edge like this every day—who could stand it?
Yu Yazhi arched a brow, studying her carefully, trying to read between her words.
What mess has this woman gotten herself into now?
Why wasn’t she asking for film resources?
Yu Yazhi couldn’t figure it out. Suspicious, she asked,
“That’s all you wanted to say?”
Ning Xuan: “…”
What, I’m supposed to tack on more conditions?
Forget it. Best to stroke her temper for now.
“Yeah, that’s all,” she replied slowly.
Yu Yazhi: “…”
She really thought Ning Xuan was going to bring up the film project. And after all that—this was it?
Or maybe she was just too embarrassed?
With that thought, she decided to “helpfully” remind her:
“Didn’t you have your eye on a film project recently?”
Then, not wanting Ning Xuan to think she cared too much, Yu Yazhi quickly added in a casual tone:
“I heard the staff talking today—something about Director He Sheng returning to China to prepare a new film. People online are buzzing about it too.”
Ning Xuan nodded, not thinking much of it.
“Yeah, Sister Manyun is handling that.”
She paused, then said righteously:
“But don’t worry about it. No need to get involved. I trust Sister Manyun’s ability.”
Yu Yazhi: “…”
Did I ever say I was going to help you?
The audacity.
Her contrarian streak flared up.
“So you’re confident you can win over the director?”
She knew Ning Xuan’s place in the industry. Just a pretty vase with no substance. Landing a role in a famous director’s film? What a joke.
Feeling the condescension in her gaze, Ning Xuan calmly forked a piece of fruit and popped it into her mouth, smiling lightly.
“No confidence. But success is up to people, fate is up to heaven. I’ve met the director—he’s someone with his own artistic pursuit. I don’t think his taste will be that bad.”
Yu Yazhi: “…”
So his taste isn’t that bad, which means he’d pick you?
Sometimes, she really couldn’t stand Ning Xuan—couldn’t stand her arrogance built on nothing but a pretty face.
And yet, watching her now, so calm, so unbothered by gain or loss, so self-assured—strangely, she didn’t find her as unbearable as before.
“Fine. Good luck, then. I’ll be watching.”
Yu Yazhi was genuinely curious to see how Ning Xuan planned to snag that role without relying on the Yu family.
And if she came crawling back for help later—well, she wouldn’t hesitate to look down on her.
The two left the private room one after the other.
As they walked, Ning Xuan lowered her head, quickly messaging Zhao Luoluo to hurry up and pick them up.
Ahead, a dazzling beauty swayed forward, surrounded by several staff members.
Walking against the light, Ning Xuan couldn’t see her face clearly and just kept moving forward.
On WeChat, Zhao Luoluo texted that she was almost there. Ning Xuan quickly replied with an “OK.”
“Bang!”
Shoulder to shoulder, she collided hard with the beauty.
“Hiss.”
Ning Xuan winced in pain.
“Ning Xuan? You’re here too?”
A familiar voice rang out.
Ning Xuan looked up—and almost dropped her phone in shock.
It was Bai Meng!
Bai Meng had deliberately bumped her. Locking eyes with Ning Xuan, she flashed a sweet smile, the corner of her lips curling as she silently mouthed: Having dinner with your wife, huh?
Ning Xuan didn’t dare respond.
She quickly glanced at Yu Yazhi, who was walking ahead but had turned back, her gaze fixed on her.
Shit.
This Bai Meng—like a ghost that just won’t go away!
A guilty panic rose in Ning Xuan’s chest. She lowered her head and tried to walk past.
But Bai Meng caught her wrist.
“Hey, Miss Ning, what a coincidence! Don’t rush off—let’s have tea together!”
She was here to meet an investor. Running into Ning Xuan and Yu Yazhi was a surprise.
Well, well. Since when did Ning Xuan get so obedient? Accompanying her wife to dinner? Must be trying to butter up the young lady again.
Jealousy simmered in Bai Meng’s heart.
But the chilly atmosphere between them gave her hope.
Maybe their marriage really was just for show.
If so, she still had a chance.
Yu Yazhi’s gaze fell on their clasped hands, her eyes tinged with scorn. So this was the “chance” you wanted from me?
Seeing the disdain in Yu Yazhi’s expression, Ning Xuan nearly exploded. Damn it. Just when I’d started earning her favor, Bai Meng comes along and ruins everything with one move!
She yanked her hand free, her voice sharp:
“Miss Bai, this is a public place. Please behave yourself!”
Then she strode quickly to Yu Yazhi’s side.
But Yu Yazhi’s face was cold, her aura even colder.
Ning Xuan felt like she’d plunged into an ice cellar. Still, she forced a smile and pleaded:
“Yazhi, it’s a misunderstanding. Please, believe me—let me explain.”
But Yu Yazhi didn’t even glance at her. Her eyes were locked tightly on Bai Meng instead.
Ning Xuan’s heart lurched, panic flooding her chest.
Wait, hold on—why is she walking toward Bai Meng?!
