After Becoming a Full-Time Employee, I Signed a Romance Contract with My Ice-Cold Boss - Chapter 1
Probation Contract x Marriage Agreement
Dark clouds pressed down heavily, and a storm was brewing.
According to the meteorological department’s forecast, the city was about to be hit by a powerful typhoon. To ensure everyone’s safety, Xu Que’s company decided that all employees would work from home starting tomorrow.
The last day of work before the typhoon was also the last day of Xu Que’s probation period.
Her mood was completely unaffected by the dismal weather. Since early morning, her face had been radiant with smiles as she looked forward to receiving her permanent employment contract.
“Xu Que, Sister Liu wants you in her office.”
Hearing her colleague’s words, Xu Que’s smile grew even more brilliant, looking like someone who had just struck gold.
“Right away! I’m going now!”
Sister Liu was her direct supervisor and had taken great care of her since she joined. Being called into the office now, there was no doubt—it had to be to discuss her conversion to a full-time employee!
Her monthly salary would finally increase from 3,200 to 4,500. Most importantly, after becoming permanent, there would be performance bonuses and various subsidies.
Suddenly feeling “rich,” Xu Que decided to reward herself with a hotpot meal after signing the contract. Even before the pen hit the paper, she was already imagining how to spend her wages.
Before entering, Xu Que glanced out the window.
Lightning flickered frequently in the distant sky, and the rumble of thunder echoed from time to time. Heavy, ink-black clouds had gathered overhead.
She wondered if the hotpot restaurants would even stay open in this weather.
Amidst her wandering thoughts, Xu Que arrived at the office door and knocked with a fluttering heart.
“Come in.”
Xu Que pushed the door open. In the spacious office, her direct supervisor stood to one side, wearing an unusually respectful expression.
Sitting at Sister Liu’s desk, however, was a young woman. She was looking down, intently flipping through documents, her excessively smooth long hair obscuring half of her face.
Xu Que had no memory of her and didn’t look closely. Her gaze returned to Sister Liu, looking at her expectantly.
At this moment, her mind was only on her permanent employment contract.
Xu Que noticed that her usually stern supervisor was showing a smile for the first time.
“Xiao Xu, your good days are coming.”
Xu Que nodded vigorously in total agreement, thinking that her good days would indeed begin after her promotion. She immediately expressed her positive work attitude to her supervisor.
“Thank you for the company’s cultivation! I will continue to work hard in the future!”
After speaking, she waited for Sister Liu to take out the contract. But after waiting for a long time, Sister Liu made no move.
The thunder outside paused briefly, and the room fell silent.
Sister Liu said nothing, only smiling at her continuously—a smile that eventually made Xu Que’s skin crawl.
Boss, don’t just keep smiling. Can you give me a straight answer about the promotion? This concerns my quality of life after paying rent.
Xu Que asked proactively, “Sister Liu, you called for me because…”
Only then did Sister Liu remember the main business.
“It’s not me looking for you; it’s President Jiang.”
Sister Liu cleared her throat and introduced the woman with a smile. “This is our company’s current CEO”
“—Ms. Jiang Fengyi.”
Xu Que followed her gaze.
Jiang Fengyi happened to look up at that exact moment.
Xu Que had been with the company for half a year, and this was the first time she had seen the person in power.
The overly young Omega before her—Jiang Fengyi.
Her beauty, previously hidden by her dark hair, was now fully revealed, instantly capturing the observer’s attention.
The momentarily quiet lightning suddenly tore through the sky, ripping a hole in the hazy firmament. The thunder lagged for a second before catching up.
The flickering white light swept across Jiang Fengyi’s delicate features, illuminating a small mole just below her eyelid. It was hidden in the shadow of her crow-black lashes, appearing and disappearing.
It was positioned perfectly, right in the center below her left eye. It seemed to possess a magical power, drawing Xu Que’s gaze and causing her to fall into a daze for a moment.
Like a drop of ink on a landscape painting, it added a touch of novelty to a traditional, conservative scroll.
Rumble—Rumble—
Jiang Fengyi heard the thunder echoing through the clouds.
Thump-thump, thump-thump—
Xu Que heard her own heartbeat, louder than the thunder.
“I want to marry you.”
A cold voice rang out in the empty room. Along with it came the thunder from outside, crashing heavily into Xu Que’s heart.
Wha… What?!
Xu Que froze on the spot as if struck by the lightning outside, too shocked to speak.
Jiang Fengyi, at the desk, pushed a paper contract toward Xu Que.
As lightning flashed outside, the four large characters [Marriage Agreement] on the contract stood out prominently. The cold, black Song typeface forced its way into Xu Que’s vision.
Xu Que’s body stiffened, her eyes widening instantly.
How did the permanent employment contract she was expecting turn into a marriage agreement!
“This… this…”
“What is going on?”
Xu Que wanted to ask for clarification, but as soon as her eyes returned to Jiang Fengyi, the words she had prepared vanished. She was completely struck dumb by such beauty.
Sister Liu spoke up to wake the dazed Xu Que.
“Child, why are you still hesitating?”
“This is a massive stroke of luck!” Sister Liu’s eyes were burning with fervor, looking as though she wished she could take Xu Que’s place. Fearing Xu Que would miss this opportunity, she urged her repeatedly.
“Sign your name, and you won’t have to worry for the rest of your life!”
Jiang Fengyi clarified her purpose in the briefest of terms. “Read it first. I hope to have it signed before the end of the workday.”
“Of course, if you have other requirements, you can add them,” she added, though her eyes did not lift. She remained focused on the work in her hands.
She didn’t seem to take the matter of marriage to heart; likewise, she didn’t seem particularly curious about her future spouse.
Xu Que grew bold enough to scrutinize her. The woman’s skin was so fair it was almost translucent. Her lips were pale, showing an unhealthy light pink hue.
The wrist clicking the keyboard was also excessively thin. Xu Que couldn’t help but suspect she might be blown away by the typhoon the moment she stepped out the company doors.
She was simply too detached and cold. Even when discussing marriage, she couldn’t be bothered to say much, appearing uninterested in everything.
As if sensing Xu Que’s prolonged stare, Jiang Fengyi’s brow furrowed slightly. Her fingers stopped on the keyboard as she looked back at Xu Que.
“Cough… cough. But we’ve only met for the first time…”
“Child, don’t be so quick to refuse,” Sister Liu interrupted hastily. “Read the contents of the agreement first.”
Sister Liu was a reliable boss. Even though Xu Que found this absurd, she followed Sister Liu’s advice and flipped open the [Marriage Agreement].
Her slender fingers turned the pages. Originally, she only intended to scan it to appease Sister Liu, but when Xu Que saw the salary she could receive, her hand suddenly stopped.
She couldn’t help but count the zeros.
Units, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten-thousands…
You’re saying I get this much just for marrying you?!
This wasn’t just a meat pie falling from the sky; it was like falling headfirst into an entire honey cake. She was momentarily dizzy from the sheer joy.
Hit by this massive surprise, Xu Que was dumbfounded.
“Is this a hallucination caused by being struck by lightning?”
After whispering to herself, Xu Que pinched herself hard.
“Hiss—”
It hurt!
Hearing the sound, Jiang Fengyi finally looked up from her work. She first looked at Xu Que with confusion, then turned to Sister Liu with a questioning gaze.
Is this really the most outstanding one among this batch of interns? Why does she seem a bit dim-witted?
Xu Que didn’t notice the exchange of glances. She asked in disbelief:
“Are you really giving this much money?”
Jiang Fengyi gave a firm answer: “Yes. It will be credited to your account on the first of every month.”
Xu Que’s voice couldn’t help but go up an octave: “And it’s given every month!”
“Of course. You only need to enter a fake marriage with me and play the role of a good partner in front of my family. Your salary will arrive on time every month.”
“The term is three years at most. After three years, we will ‘break up’ amicably. It won’t delay you from finding a real partner.”
Jiang Fengyi continued to lay out the incentives: “If you perform well, I will even give you extra bonuses.”
“I’ll sign! I’ll sign right now!”
Even without the bonuses, this salary was enough to buy a house in the best part of the city. She couldn’t think of a single reason to refuse.
Xu Que immediately grabbed the pen on the desk and signed her name with the fastest speed of her life, fearing that wealth would slip through her fingers if she were a second too slow.
Jiang Fengyi glanced at the time on her screen. There were thirty minutes left until the end of the workday.
She stood up, closed her laptop, and finished her work early. In a good mood, she packed her things to head home.
Stepping into the elevator, she realized she had a tail behind her.
“Why are you following me?”
Outside the elevator doors, Xu Que held down the “open” button. Her eyes shifted away; she still wasn’t used to looking directly at the other woman’s face.
“The marriage agreement says we need to get to know each other in a short time to create the atmosphere of having been in love for many years.”
The agreement had been drafted by a lawyer, and Jiang Fengyi had only skimmed it. There did seem to be such a clause.
“Come in, then. We’re going to eat now.”
Having received Jiang Fengyi’s approval, Xu Que finally entered the elevator.
Inside the confined space, the two stood side-by-side. Neither spoke, looking entirely like two strangers sharing a lift.
The elevator descended slowly.
Realizing the atmosphere was too awkward, Xu Que took the initiative to start a conversation.
“What are we eating tonight?”
Jiang Fengyi asked, “Do you have any dietary restrictions?”
“None, I eat everything.” Out of politeness and a desire to understand the other person, Xu Que asked back, “What about you? Is there anything you don’t eat?”
Jiang Fengyi thought about it carefully. She liked all the dishes the auntie at home made.
So she replied seriously, “I’m not a picky eater.”
Usually, she ate food prepared by a housekeeper or a private chef. Jiang Fengyi wasn’t sure what delicacies were near the company, so she handed the choice of dinner to Xu Que.
“What do you usually like to eat? You can take me to try it. We need to understand each other’s tastes.”
Xu Que had been thinking about it all day, so she blurted it out without hesitation: “Then let’s go eat hotpot!”
Only after saying it did she realize it might be inappropriate. She asked hesitantly, “Do… do you eat hotpot?”
“I said I’m not a picky eater.”
Xu Que was completely relieved.
However, both of them underestimated the destructive power of this typhoon. When they arrived at the commercial street, the hotpot restaurants had long since closed their doors. Notices were posted stating they would only reopen after the typhoon had passed.
Xu Que slapped her forehead. “I forgot we received the ‘Five Suspensions’ notice.”
Because of the typhoon’s landfall, the city had fully implemented “Five Suspensions” (suspension of classes, work, production, transport, and business). Almost all catering shops had closed for business.
She felt bad. “How about we go next time…”
“Come to my house to eat.”
The auntie at her house was a good cook, and they had bought plenty of ingredients in advance because of the typhoon.
Jiang Fengyi had seen Xu Que’s file. She had no parents, grew up in an orphanage, and lived alone after reaching adulthood. Since she lived by herself, she probably hadn’t prepared any food.
During the two or three days the typhoon would be passing through, if there was no food at home, she would truly go hungry.
Jiang Fengyi said bluntly, “Move into my place. For the few days the typhoon is making landfall, you will eat with me.”
“Is that… appropriate?”
Xu Que asked with a reddened face, acting a bit coy.
“Living together on the first day we met, isn’t that a bit too fast?”
