- Chapter 2 - Not Just Thin, But Small
“Holy shit! Chen Zhiyan, are you fucking insane? I’ve never been hit like that in my entire life. You’re dead!”
As Jiang Yu spoke, he arched his waist upward again. Intent on a “fish-death-and-net-breaking” mutual destruction, he slammed his head back toward him.
But Chen Zhiyan held him down by the waist and abdomen, making him unable to move. “You’re welcome.”
“You stinking piece of shit. With a tongue that toxic, I hope you end up alone forever.”
“Oh.”
That lukewarm response nearly drove Jiang Yu to death with rage. A knock sounded at the door. Chen Zhiyan paused for two seconds, and Jiang Yu seized the chance to lunge forward, flipping from the bottom to the top position. Before he could speak, however, Chen Zhiyan muffled him completely with a thin quilt.
“Mph.”
Jiang Yu yanked the quilt down. Just as his face emerged, Chen Zhiyan sat up while holding onto the bed railing. The two were face-to-face. Jiang Yu leaned his head back slightly, bracing himself to headbutt him again, but just as he prepared, a hand clamped around his neck, squeezing so hard he nearly gagged.
“Brother Jiang! What are you two doing secretly in the dorm?!”
This posture, this movement, and Jiang Yu’s half-exposed shoulder created a compromising scene.
Holy crap.
His upper body was bare.
Li Heng’s mouth hung wide open in shock. As their eyes met, he covered his mouth. “No wonder you told us last night to go out and buy breakfast this morning. Turns out you wanted some ‘lovey-dovey’ time with Brother Chen! You should’ve said so! There was no need to go through such a huge detour!”
Fearing people passing by in the hallway might see, Xu Zhile pushed Li Heng inside and closed the door behind them. He set the breakfast on the table, wearing a look that said, “So that is how it is.”
“You guys usually fight so hard, we thought you were arch-enemies just like they say online. Turns out it’s just flirting! This is a total joke!”
“…”
“…”
Jiang Yu’s teeth were nearly grinding to dust. He shot a look at them sharp enough to kill. “I am flirting with Chen Zhiyan?”
Under the quilt, his hand squeezed Chen Zhiyan’s shoulder hard. He slipped one hand out through a gap, curling his fair fingers toward Li Heng in a beckoning motion, smiling without any warmth. “Come here. I have something to tell you.”
Li Heng walked over completely off-guard. “What is—AAAH OUCH!”
Jiang Yu grabbed his ear, twisted it once, then quickly let go to restrain Chen Zhiyan again. “If you have an eye disease, go see an ophthalmologist immediately! Do not wait until the doctor gets off work!”
“…”
Xu Zhile dragged Li Heng back out, muttering, “Brother Jiang is just shy. Do you not know he cares about his reputation more than anything? Besides, this is a male dorm; they are definitely too embarrassed to let others know. Love that is not accepted by society is not easy. Let us go. From now on, sleep early and wake up early. Have some common sense and do not get in their way.”
“Xu Zhile! Get your ass back here! What ‘love not accepted by society’? Between us, there is only the determination to strangle each other!!”
Click.
The door closed.
But Xu Zhile’s parting shot, “You are so reluctant to even get off Brother Chen,” made Jiang Yu explode with fury. He swung a punch at Chen Zhiyan’s temple, which was caught firmly.
Three minutes later, that thin quilt had Jiang Yu wrapped up like a mummy. He tossed and turned on the bed. Seeing Chen Zhiyan washing his hands with disinfectant, he cursed through gritted teeth, “Fuck your ancestors! I smell great!”
Chen Zhiyan did not even look up as he closed the door behind him, shutting Jiang Yu’s voice out.
That morning, Jiang Yu successfully made it late to class, all thanks to Chen Zhiyan. However, before leaving, he rolled around on Chen Zhiyan’s bed several times, wrinkling the perfectly smoothed sheets and undoing the neatly folded quilt. In short, he made a mess, which slightly vented the fire in his heart.
During the break, almost everyone left the classroom.
Jiang Yu sat in the back row, calling Chen Zhiyan’s mother, Mu Chuxia. His heels were propped against the desk as he swayed slightly, radiating laziness. When he spoke, the corners of his eyes drooped, making him look quite well-behaved, and his voice went soft.
Actually, he only looked like this when he was snitching. Usually, he was a little tyrant, with “troublemaker” written in every fiber of his being.
At this moment, he was busy playing the victim. “Godmother, Chen Zhiyan hit my butt and gripped my wrists so hard they hurt. Even worse, he wrapped me up in my quilt so I would be late, and he even acted like I was dirty! Sophomore year is such a critical semester, and he caused me to lose credit points. He is absolutely detestable!”
“How could this happen? Where is Xiao Zhi? Put him on the phone!”
“Who knows which girl he is off flirting with now. Chen Zhiyan has been like a peacock with its tail spread lately. He has too many ‘peach blossoms.’ He gets so many love letters his hands get soft. He is a regular ‘sea king.’ With that cold, celibate face—cough—with that paralyzed face, he just accepts them without refusing.”
“Brother Jiang.”
A girl holding a pink envelope stood behind Jiang Yu, her voice sweet and high-pitched.
Jiang Yu pulled the phone away, hit mute, and put on his practiced smile. “Sorry, I do not have any plans to date right now.”
“Ah.”
“But you must have spent a long time writing this. I will accept it for now. Thank you.”
“Wuah, Brother Jiang, you are so nice. You are not bad like people say at all. I really like you.”
Jiang Yu handed the girl a packet of tissues. “Do not cry. Tears are pearls.”
Li Heng: “…”
Xu Zhile: “…”
Chen Zhiyan, not far away: “…”
The girl left, and Jiang Yu casually stuffed the love letter into his desk. He looked at Chen Zhiyan provocatively, his elbow resting on the back of his chair and his fingertips lazily touching his eyebrow. He nudged the phone forward slightly. “Godmother wants to talk to you. Do not drag your feet.”
Only then did he turn off the mute.
“…”
Chen Zhiyan’s eyes were cold as he reached out and hung up the call directly.
“You have got guts.” Jiang Yu gave him a thumbs-up and dialed again. “Godmother, Chen Zhiyan does not want to talk to you. He just hung up on me. He will not apologize either, and my wrist really hurts.”
“Just wait until he comes back tonight, see how I deal with him!” Mu Chuxia said. “Little treasure, you come sleep at Godmother’s house tonight. I have saved up a bunch of delicious food for you.”
“Deal!” Jiang Yu agreed with a smile.
Chen Zhiyan called him a little liar and said there was not a single word of truth in his mouth.
Having successfully snitched, Jiang Yu asked with a grin, “How is there no truth? Are you telling me you are not small?”
Li Heng’s eyes bugged out. “Brother Jiang! Is that something you can say out loud?!”
Xu Zhile’s eyes also widened. “Badass.”
Chen Zhiyan’s face was so dark it could drip ink. He walked over to Jiang Yu, bent down, and hoisted him over his shoulder. “Let us go and compare right now.”
“Holy shit, you are sick! Who the fuck wants to compare with you? Put me down!” Jiang Yu was dying of shame and fury. He bit Chen Zhiyan’s shoulder several times. In his struggle, his shirt rolled up a bit, revealing a fair and slender waist.
Chen Zhiyan’s gaze fell on Jiang Yu’s back. His fingertips twitched slightly. Seeing Jiang Yu squirming like a pig slated for slaughter, he pressed his hand against Jiang Yu’s waist, perfectly covering the exposed skin.
“Weakling.”
“?” Jiang Yu exploded. “You are the weakling! Not only are you thin, you are small!”
Chen Zhiyan looked at the eyes watching them and said calmly, “Getting angry out of shame only makes people think you are talking about yourself.”
“Motherfucker, I am irreconcilable with you!”
Jiang Yu was carried out by Chen Zhiyan. As they reached the door, he grabbed the doorframe, his face flushing redder as he met the gazes of his classmates. “What are you all imagining? He and I are archenemies!”
Classmate 1: “Oh, I do not believe it. They are just flirting right now. We all understand.”
Classmate 2: “Whoa, Chen’s possessiveness is way too strong. His hand is so big it completely covers the tyrant’s waist. Slurp, I really love this!”
Classmate 3: “Do not think I do not know. You guys just use the ‘archenemy’ title to show off your love every day. Hugging and carrying each other anytime, anywhere; who knows how many times you have kissed in private!”
Classmate 4: “This kind of guy is the smartest. To stop his wife from arguing with others, he just handles it himself.”
Classmate 5: “They fought as enemies when they were kids; now that they are grown, he is getting ‘beaten’ by his enemy in a different way. Do not look at how loud the little tyrant is shouting; come nighttime, he will be crying just the same!”
