Chapter 6: “Are You Seducing Me Again?”
Nonsense. Who was a “tyrant at home”?
She simply had the upbringing she was raised with; she wouldn’t slap someone in front of a crowd. It wasn’t dignified, and it would give people something to gossip about.
Sheng Ruxi was like a blooming rose—stunning, but she wouldn’t allow herself to be trampled or picked by just anyone. This seemingly fragile flower, once angered, could turn the dew on her petals into weapons.
Besides, hadn’t Jian Jixing stepped up precisely because of that one look she gave her?
The pressure on her earlobe wasn’t heavy; it was gentle, almost like flirting, carrying a hint of a tingling itch. But the moment Jian Jixing spoke, Sheng Ruxi’s rebellious streak flared up instantly.
She pulled the bath towel off her head, letting it drape loosely around her hair to reveal her face. She knew exactly which posture, which expression, and which look combined to make her look the most beautiful—especially in front of an audience.
Yet, the moment she showed that face, Jian Jixing’s lazy expression shifted instantly.
Jian Jixing furrowed her brows, looking as if she were about to retch. She pursed her lips tightly, and Sheng Ruxi, reacting quickly, took a step back.
Jian Jixing is going to vomit!
All the staff members froze in their tracks. Were they serious? Did Director Jian hate Sheng Ruxi so much that even looking at her for too long made her nauseous? How could there be an Alpha in this world who could actually hate that face?
Behind Jian Jixing, Meng Zhao had already walked over. The wine on her clothes hadn’t been wiped clean, and she was currently emitting a wine scent much stronger than before.
Her pheromone was red wine. At this moment, she only needed to attach a tiny bit of it to the liquid on her clothes… wouldn’t it be fragrant? Wouldn’t one want to drink it?
It was said in the industry that working with Jian Jixing was the cleanest and safest deal. She was calm and self-controlled; getting a role in her films depended entirely on talent, and the “unspoken rules” of the industry never existed with her. Despite the high-intensity work, and the fact that she didn’t carry suppressants or wear a bite guard, Jian Jixing never leaked a drop of her pheromones on set.
It wasn’t that no Omegas had tried to seduce her, but without exception, they all disappeared from her radar. Rumor had it that Jian Jixing was frigid, but Meng Zhao didn’t believe it. Given Jian Jixing’s status, what kind of Omega couldn’t she have? It was just that she hadn’t smelled the “right” one yet.
Meng Zhao believed she had to seize this hard-won opportunity. She intentionally released her pheromones, aiming them directly at Jian Jixing.
To Jian Jixing, this wasn’t a “stimulating seduction.” It was a violation and an attack.
A surge of revulsion hit her. She couldn’t sense anything sweet; she only felt her stomach churning, acid rising in her throat. The burning sensation starting from her scent gland spread to her nerves. When attacked, an Alpha’s personality becomes sharp; whether they can maintain the logic of a normal person depends entirely on willpower.
But right now, Jian Jixing didn’t want to endure it. Her face became expressionless, covered in a thin layer of ice. It stinks. Once she finished vomiting, she was going to—
Luckily, she still had enough presence of mind to push Sheng Ruxi out of the way.
A white blur flew toward her. Jian Jixing instinctively caught it—the soft bath towel happened to cover her nose and mouth. Immediately, a warm oat scent mingled with a hint of milk, quietly dispersing that disgusting pheromone.
It was Sheng Ruxi’s scent.
Sheng Ruxi had thrown her towel back at her, her expression unyielding: “Who wants your towel? Take it away.”
However, Jian Jixing parted her lips slightly and looked back.
Meng Zhao took a panicked step backward. What had she just seen? Jian Jixing’s… canines? It didn’t look like she wanted to mark her; it looked like she wanted to actually bite her to death.
Some said Jian Jixing loathed it when Omegas released pheromones in front of her, let alone seducing her, but no one had ever described the consequences. Meng Zhao’s vision blurred; all that remained was that look in Jian Jixing’s eyes. Her back was instantly drenched in cold sweat.
Jian Jixing turned back, grabbed Sheng Ruxi’s wrist, and led her away from the set. Holding Sheng Ruxi with one hand and sniffing the towel with the other, she hurried to Sheng Ruxi’s RV.
Sheng Ruxi shook her off. “If you’re going to puke, puke now. Just don’t do it in my car.”
Jian Jixing snorted. The logic she had fought so hard to regain was nearly destroyed by Sheng Ruxi’s attitude.
“Biting the hand that feeds you,” Jian Jixing said, putting the towel down. The wine stains had spread, and the smell of red wine had soaked in, but she couldn’t smell it at all—only oats and a slight milky fragrance.
Undoubtedly, Sheng Ruxi had also released her pheromones to mask the mess. But that mouth of hers really couldn’t say anything nice; every word was a knife. Jian Jixing still clutched the towel, her fingertips lightly rubbing the fabric, lost in thought.
“So you admit you came here on purpose to stand up for me?” Sheng Ruxi pouted slightly and blinked. “Are you coaxing me?”
Looking at that aggressively impressive fleet of coffee trucks and dessert stands, wasn’t she clearly here to visit her set? Not saying a word in advance… Sheng Ruxi knew this was Jian Jixing’s signal of backing down.
Jian Jixing still needed her. Today was Saturday, and Sheng Ruxi had been counting the days. Jian Jixing’s rut had arrived.
“Say it,” Sheng Ruxi’s voice dropped, sounding like a coquette, half-spoiled and half-teasing. Her long, beautiful finger poked Jian Jixing’s chest. “What did you come here for today?”
Sheng Ruxi was determined to win; she wanted Jian Jixing to admit out loud that she wanted to mark her.
Jian Jixing in her rut was always like a different person. A gentleman on the outside, a beast in bed. Normally, this person was indeed “frigid”; over the years, Sheng Ruxi had teased her more than once about being “incapable.”
But now, her waist ached just thinking of those words.
Right now, Jian Jixing felt her rationality losing its usual stability. Her chest felt numb where Sheng Ruxi’s finger had poked her. Under Sheng Ruxi’s provocation, a surge of unprovoked irritation was welling up.
One bite and she’ll behave, Jian Jixing thought.
“If I hadn’t come to see, I wouldn’t have known you could let yourself be bullied like this outside,” Jian Jixing said, calming down. “Meng Zhao sent me an audition video—it was that exact scene.”
Her new film wasn’t ready yet, and the number of audition videos sent by actors was like the hair on an ox. Meng Zhao was clever; knowing the history between Sheng Ruxi and Jian Jixing, she likely sent that specific clip to grab attention.
Sheng Ruxi wasn’t grateful: “Who got bullied? Even if you didn’t come to back me up, I would have had a way.”
Would it kill you to just say you came for me? Sheng Ruxi bit her lip and retracted her finger.
If she didn’t give her a way out, how could Sheng Ruxi yield? She wanted to say that once this bit of filming was done, she would go back with Jian Jixing and selflessly help her through this rut.
The cool air from the RV wafted out, but the ground below was bathed in sunlight. Sheng Ruxi didn’t seem to notice she was being tanned; her skin looked as translucent as fine glazed glass under the light. Her fragrance drifted on the breeze, carrying a lingering aftertaste of sweet berries.
Seeing Jian Jixing staring at her in silence, Sheng Ruxi grew smug again. “I know you can’t hold back anymore. Wouldn’t it have been better to be nicer to me earlier? Rushing here to pick me up and back me up… saying such harsh things, aren’t you afraid someone will post it online and get you scolded?”
Jian Jixing chuckled. “I’m not here to pick you up. I just came for a set visit. I’m not in a hurry.”
“Liar.” The smile on Sheng Ruxi’s face didn’t fade. She tilted her head slightly, letting her scent gland peek through her soft hair. “The things you said to Meng Zhao were very harsh. I know your personality—I’ll just take it as you saying sweet nothings to me.”
As she spoke, her gaze slowly drifted to Jian Jixing, silently asking her to say a few more words to make her happy.
Jian Jixing laughed again. “Since when is telling the truth called ‘sweet nothings’? Your standards are too low. Aren’t you afraid of being tricked away by a few words in the future?”
Having her stage collapsed by Jian Jixing’s few words, Sheng Ruxi’s face fell. The expectation in her eyes was replaced by annoyance. After a moment of hesitation, she finally blurted out: “Vixen!”
“I’ll take that as a compliment. Since you were willing to marry a ‘vixen,’ I suppose you’re the one suffering.” Jian Jixing was relaxed, having fully recovered. Her words carried no hint of serious affection. She took two steps back, preparing to leave.
Sheng Ruxi, unable to win the argument again, stomped her foot behind her. “Don’t you dare leave! Jian Jixing, I hate you to death! I’m definitely not coming back tonight…”
Jian Jixing turned back. Now that Sheng Ruxi was angry, her tone softened, making her look like the magnanimous one. “Did you forget? Chu Wu has a symposium livestream tonight. Isn’t watching it at home better than anywhere else? She even invited me to join the connection and ask questions. It’s a rare opportunity.”
Jian Jixing’s voice dropped, sounding almost seductive: “Come back. I’ll give that opportunity to you.”
…
By the time Sheng Ruxi finished her work, it was evening. As she sat in the business van, Tuanzi was about to ask for the destination, but Sheng Ruxi spoke first: “Cancel all future collaborations with Meng Zhao.”
“Director Jian already told Sister Mei. Meng Zhao’s role as the second female lead in Director Zhang’s next film was also canceled today.”
Sheng Ruxi was stunned. “When did this happen?”
“Sister Mei said Director Jian gave the order before she even arrived on set.”
Before she arrived… That meant the moment Jian Jixing saw Meng Zhao’s audition clip, she had already stripped her of her resources.
She had come over and rambled for half a day, and aside from the teasing, she really had come to vent her anger for her. She didn’t say a single nice thing, but she did all the ruthless work behind the scenes. Of course, when these methods were used on people with ulterior motives, Sheng Ruxi only felt satisfied.
“Director Jian did more than that. She gave you so much face. The staff thought she was there for Meng Zhao, but before she left, she specifically went to find Director Zhang,” Tuanzi giggled behind her hand. “Director Zhang personally saw her out, and then Meng Zhao’s role was gone.”
Sheng Ruxi fell into deep thought.
“Sister Xi, where are we going?” Tuanzi asked tentatively.
Sheng Ruxi lowered her gaze, her voice soft and sweet: “The villa. Take the shortcut. I want to see Wuwu’s livestream soon.”
She was going back for that great opportunity to ask Chu Wu a question, not because of Jian Jixing’s little gesture.
…
Jian Jixing sat in the study. The display in front of her was blank. Once Chu Wu’s livestream started, the big screen would sync with her phone’s interface.
When Sheng Ruxi wasn’t around, the house always felt very quiet. Not long after, Jian Jixing heard the sound of Sheng Ruxi returning. She slowly closed her eyes, sensing her own excited heartbeat.
Slide—
Sheng Ruxi slid open the study door. Jian Jixing opened her eyes simultaneously, looking at that beautiful, surprised, jade-like face.
The study was filled with the scent of pheromones.
A warm lamp burned in the night-shrouded study. In front of the floor-to-ceiling bookshelf was a linen sofa large enough for two people to lie on. Jian Jixing sat on a solid wood armchair, her posture relaxed, looking back at her. The study was decorated in a traditional Chinese style—steady and solemn. Yet, Jian Jixing was shamelessly releasing her pheromones here, emitting an ambiguous signal.
Pheromones of this concentration—
They almost instantly triggered the restlessness inside Sheng Ruxi’s body.
“You… are you seducing me again?”
“I’m just giving you a good opportunity to see Chu Wu better.” Jian Jixing suddenly stood up, her gaze locking onto Sheng Ruxi. The sense of pressure from her body grew heavier. “What, you don’t want to see her?”
Sheng Ruxi: “I only came back to see Wuwu!”
She braced herself and walked straight toward the wooden chair, assuming it was her seat. Just as she reached the edge of the desk, the livestream room popped up on the display.
Chu Wu’s livestream had begun.
At the same time, Jian Jixing’s hands reached around from behind her to prop herself up on the desk, making it look as though Sheng Ruxi was being gathered into her arms.
With warm breath near her ear, Jian Jixing whispered: “Watch it like this.”
