After a Metaphysics Master Transmigrates into a Scummy Alpha, She Ends Up with the Best Actress - Chapter 2
Ye Lin ignored the chaotic mess she left behind at the Ye household, choosing instead to focus on her own “solitary beauty.” However, the news of her departure from the family had once again catapulted her onto the trending searches.
Currently, the entire internet was “eating melons,” speculating on what her next big move would be. Would she pull another attention-seeking stunt? Or was she headed for a tragic downfall? Some fans had even started a countdown poll, betting on how long it would take for Ye Lin to crawl back home and admit she was wrong.
Ye Lin let out a cold snort. People really underestimate me. She cast her vote for the most unpopular option: “Never returning to the Ye family.” Under that choice, her single vote stood lonely and defiant.
【Is Ye Lin out of her mind? She actually joined her own poll!】
【I bet she’ll post on Weibo in a minute saying her hand slipped. Any takers?】
【Our Sister Ye is so badass! I support her! Who needs a wealthy family anyway? We are our own wealth!】
Before she could even set her phone down, her manager’s call came through.
“Ye Lin, do you have a hole in your brain?” Jiang, her manager, barked. “It’s one thing for netizens to stir up trouble, but why are you joining in? Do you think things aren’t messy enough? Do you have any idea how many of your endorsements are trying to cancel their contracts? Directors are already cutting your scenes from unreleased films and recasting them. You’re box-office poison now! And yet here you are, still playing the fool.”
Ye Lin held the phone far from her ear. Once the woman on the other end had exhausted her breath, Ye Lin pulled it back and said soothingly, “Sister Jiang, why the temper? Now that I don’t have the Ye family’s backing, isn’t ‘black-and-red’ still a form of fame? Besides, my contract is almost up. The netizens won’t be cursing me for much longer.”
Manager Jiang was blunt and outspoken. She harbored a “hate the struggle, love the potential” attitude toward Ye Lin, often lamenting that such a stunning face was wasted on such a hopeless personality. With even a shred of intelligence, that face could have conquered the entire entertainment industry. Years ago, Jiang had bet on Ye Lin’s visuals, but it turned out she had backed the wrong horse.
“What do you mean by that? You’re quitting the industry? You’re really never going back to the Ye family?”
“That’s right,” Ye Lin replied earnestly. She was a Celestial Master; she intended to return to her original trade, and staying with the Ye family would be inconvenient. Moreover, she had no intention of wasting her life fighting the “female lead” of this world. Her life was far too precious for that!
On the other end of the line, Sister Jiang grew anxious again. “I’m telling you, you really aren’t smart. Like you said, infamy is still fame. Now that the Ye family isn’t looking after you, you need to seize this trending status to grab some variety shows or commercials. Save up some money. Regardless of whether you stay in the industry, you need a financial cushion.”
That made sense. Ye Lin looked around her luxurious three-bedroom apartment. In a few months, when her contract expired, the company would take the place back. She would need a roof over her head.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you. Please look into some work for me; I need to save up. Thank you, Sister Jiang!”
There was a long silence on the other end. Jiang hadn’t expected to hear a “thank you” from Ye Lin in this lifetime. Furthermore, throughout the call, Ye Lin had remained remarkably rational—no crying, no screaming, and no cursing.
Jiang felt a bit dazed, wondering if the person on the line was actually Ye Lin.
“Sister Jiang?” Ye Lin prompted.
“Ah, I’m here. Right. I’ll look around. A few variety shows have reached out. I’ll set something up. The ‘character edit’ probably won’t be great, so for the sake of the paycheck, you’ll just have to endure it.”
This was the truth; most crews reaching out now only wanted to use her as a stepping stone or a punching bag for ratings.
“A variety show.” Ye Lin mused, then asked quickly, “Sister Jiang, do you know Gu Li?”
It was a rhetorical question. Jiang was one of the top managers in the business, and Gu Li was a national goddess-tier idol. Was there anyone on the planet who didn’t know her? Scouted at sixteen, she had become a Best Actress winner with her debut film. Since then, she released three high-quality films a year, sweeping domestic and international awards. She was a true “Grand Slam” actress—the perfect fusion of talent and star power. She had countless fans and, naturally, just as many stalkers.
“What are you getting at? Don’t tell me you don’t know who she is.”
Ye Lin actually didn’t. She had only seen Gu Li on TV for the first time yesterday. But with just that one glance, she had been deeply attracted by the other woman’s shimmering, golden “constitution.”
“Sister Jiang, see if there are any projects or events where I can work with Gu Li. Help me arrange it, okay?” Ye Lin licked her lips. She was hungry for that golden aura!
“Are you dreaming? Who do you think Gu Li is? She’s a superstar. Aside from her three films a year, she takes nothing. Her only endorsement is for her sister’s company. And all her roles for this year are already cast. You don’t have a chance! Stop daydreaming!” Frustrated, Manager Jiang hung up.
Ye Lin shrugged. One should always have dreams, what if they come true? She wasn’t in a rush; if fate decreed it, they would meet.
Meanwhile, in a high-rise office of an entertainment company downtown, a man with messy “bird’s nest” hair sat on a sofa, waiting for a verdict.
The woman holding the power sat sideways in her executive chair, scanning a proposal. Her long hair was swept over her left shoulder, partially obscuring her elegant features. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a radiant glow on her porcelain skin. With her gentle temperament and exquisite face, she looked like a fairy descended to the mortal realm.
Her slender fingers gripped a pen, crossing out a name with a swift stroke. She scribbled another name in its place, turned the chair, and pushed the proposal across the desk.
The man stood up to look. His expression turned to one of shock. “Movie Queen Gu, are you sure you want to invite her? She’s a total wildcard right now!”
“And?” Gu Li tapped her finger on the desk, a sign of her irritation. She disliked being questioned, and the man clearly didn’t get the hint.
“And the show will face a lot of unexpected situations,” he stammered. It’ll be a disaster. “In her last variety show, she didn’t just ignore the script; she fought over partners and almost came to blows behind the scenes.”
“I remember that episode. The ratings were record-breaking, weren’t they?” Gu Li lifted her eyelids lazily, her gaze saying: I am the investor; ratings are what I want.
Ratings meant money. Faced with capital, the man yielded.
“Don’t worry. I won’t let her get out of control,” Gu Li said with certainty.
The man frowned, wondering where she got the confidence to control someone with a “mad dog” reputation. But since she was the boss, he had to obey. As he left, he couldn’t help but sigh, “Why her, though?”
Indeed, why her? Gu Li rested her chin on her hand, looking momentarily puzzled, then suddenly burst into a soft laugh, her serene facade breaking.
Why? Simply to make the routine a little more interesting.
