Affectionate Obsession - Chapter 30
Sera’s lips trembled.
It was as if she were trying to hide the fear that had suddenly engulfed her.
At that sight, Yeonhee felt like laughing.
It was amusing that Sera, who would tremble with just a few words, had spoken words she couldn’t handle. That thought only fanned the flames in Yeonhee’s heart.
“Just as Ms. Yoon Sera said, my hands trembled even at the offer of 500 million won because I lived without, but now that I’ve lived as Mr. Jung Junhyeok’s wife in your stead, my horizons have broadened, and I no longer want to disappear for 500 million won.”
It was a monotonous tone, devoid of any emotion. That’s why it sounded all the more sincere.
Sera’s tightly clenched fists trembled. Then, with a face contorted by rage, she screamed.
“What exactly do you want from me! Do you need more money? Then tell me how much you need. I’ll give you any amount!!”
Sera was on the verge of panic, beyond bewildered by a turn of events she had never imagined.
When Junhyeok had said something similar, she had been scared, but not this much.
Back then, she thought that if she just gave money, Shin Yeonhee would return her place. So, in a way, she had dismissed Junhyeok’s words as mere quibbling.
But this was a big problem.
Now that Shin Yeonhee, who had taken her place, refused to return it, she had no idea how to resolve this situation.
Moreover, the look in Shin Yeonhee’s eyes was unusual. It seemed dry, but it clearly held a fierce emotion she couldn’t fathom.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t need the money Ms. Yoon Sera is offering.”
Her prediction was not wrong. The words Sera feared most at that moment flowed smoothly from Yeonhee’s lips.
“Since Mr. Jung Junhyeok doesn’t mind even knowing I’m not Yoon Sera, there’s even less reason for me to return this place. So, I’m going to take this place.”
“…….”
“Besides, the elders from both families don’t seem to suspect for a moment that I’m not you. If I try a little to pretend to be you, I think I can take it.”
Tears finally streamed down Sera’s eyes. It was a blow to her pride to show such weakness in front of Yeonhee, so she abruptly stood up.
Then, looking down at Yeonhee, she moved her lips.
“Fine, then. It seems you want to play for real, so try your best. I’m curious too. To see if Ms. Shin Yeonhee can really steal my place.”
Sera spoke venomously, without even bothering to wipe the tears streaming down her cheeks.
Although she had been desperately trying to pretend otherwise, her remaining pride had been completely crushed.
She felt disgusted by having to be the one to stand up first, but she calculated that staying any longer would gain her nothing.
She wasn’t so foolish as to stubbornly cling to a future that was clearly not in her favor.
Revenge for her bruised pride today could be planned for later.
Comforting herself thus, Sera took a step. However, after only a few steps, she paused and looked down at Yeonhee again.
“When a sweet dream lasts too long, the suffering you must endure after waking up is much greater. Are you prepared to handle that?”
She knew that such a trivial remark couldn’t touch Shin Yeonhee’s pride, but still, she wanted to say at least one more thing.
If that remark, by some stroke of luck, managed to inflict a small wound on Shin Yeonhee’s pride, it would be a bonus, and if not, it didn’t matter.
After all, she had nothing to lose.
With that, Sera strode towards the entrance. It felt strange to be leaving the house, which might have been hers if she hadn’t bought it from Shin Yeonhee, as if she were being kicked out. But it was only something she would soon reclaim.
Enduring that thought alone, Sera exited the building. As soon as she stepped outside, the first thing she did was take out her phone from her bag.
The ringing didn’t last long. The voice she had been waiting for pierced her ears.
“Yes, Miss. It’s me.”
“Secretary Lee, it’s me. Something has come up that needs to be handled.”
“Please tell me.”
A polite reply came back.
Listening to the loyal voice, after enduring Shin Yeonhee’s insolent, presumptuous retort, she felt her crushed pride recovering slightly.
Seizing the momentum, Sera quickly relayed the story forming in her mind.
“According to what Secretary Lee reported last time, it seems Mr. Jung Junhyeok’s hired guards are watching Shin Yeonjeong’s hospital room, is that correct?”
“Yes, Miss. That is correct.”
“Bribe just one of them.”
Sera stopped her long strides and slowly turned around. Then, she tilted her head and her eyes scanned the house she had just been sitting in.
Shin Yeonhee, you underestimated me. I’m not someone who would easily lose to someone like you. Keep relying on Jung Junhyeok and acting so smug. I’ll make sure you know exactly what it feels like to fall from heaven to hell.
“Ask them their price and tell them you’ll pay double. The condition is that they just need to leave their post for about an hour.”
Sera suppressed the words she wanted to spit out at Yeonhee and looked straight ahead again.
“I’d like this handled as quickly as possible. The sooner, the better. If it’s possible by tomorrow, even better.”
“Is something the matter?”
Sensing something unusual from the sudden instructions, Secretary Kim asked.
Sera couldn’t answer readily. The worst possible situation was unfolding, so unpleasant she could barely speak of it.
“It seems I’ve been completely taken in by a truly insane, crazy bitch.”
Still, she would overcome this.
“It’s nothing that requires such a grand thought, so Secretary Lee, please just quickly handle what I’ve instructed.”
The formidable Yoon Sera could not possibly lose to mere Shin Yeonhee.
Sera pressed the end call button without hesitation and quickly walked towards her parked car.
“Check this.”
Junhyeok changed clothes as soon as he got home and sat in front of Yeonhee. He then handed her a thick stack of papers.
“What is this?”
Yeonhee asked in a hesitant voice. Now, whatever Junhyeok handed her, she felt afraid.
She wondered what shocking story this document would contain.
“It’s about the corruption within RM Group that I mentioned yesterday. This isn’t everything, and I’m still investigating, but there was quite a lot of new information today. I thought it would be better for you to check it step by step rather than looking at it all at once.”
Yeonhee frowned at Junhyeok’s words.
She took the papers that she had been reluctant to touch and began to read the densely packed text.
It wasn’t easy to understand. Her professional experience was limited to managing a store, so she was unfamiliar with business terms like these.
Yeonhee looked up at Junhyeok. As if he had been waiting, Junhyeok added an explanation.
“There’s a brand called ‘Bonheur’ among the brands in HN Group’s food court. It’s a premium restaurant managed by RM Food.”
“……A premium restaurant?”
“It’s a bit different from a regular franchise. Bonheur is only located in the main branches of HN Department Store and a few other branches of three department store groups.”
Yeonhee raised her eyebrows. She still didn’t understand easily, even with Junhyeok’s explanation. Noticing this, Junhyeok moved his lips again.
“Simply put, it’s a restaurant for VIP customers of department stores. An expensive restaurant intended to cater only to wealthy individuals.”
“Ah……”
“RM Food, which held the number one position in the industry until 10 years ago, lost its competitiveness and plummeted to the bottom. The reason it’s still barely holding on is because of Bonheur. The annual revenue from Bonheur is beyond imagination.”
Yeonhee nodded to acknowledge his explanation. She was listening calmly, but she didn’t quite understand why he was telling her this.
In fact, until Junhyeok’s next words, Yeonhee found the situation rather tedious.
“Even if it wasn’t Bonheur, RM Food doesn’t seem like it would fail easily.”
“…….”
“RM Group’s Honorary Chairman, Choi Sookhee, cherishes RM Food the most among her businesses.”
Yeonhee bit her lower lip tightly. The name Choi Sookhee alone began to stir her emotions.
“The document in your hand right now is related to the corruption happening within RM Food.”
Yeonhee’s grip on the papers tightened abruptly.
Yeonhee looked down at the papers in her hand again.
