Affectionate Obsession - Chapter 29
Sera stood before the floor-to-ceiling window of the suite, gnawing on her fingernails.
Occasionally, she glanced at the phone clutched in her other hand, but the call she had been waiting for these past few days never came.
“She said she’d call, what is she trying to do to me, Shin Yeonhee!”
Unable to contain herself, Sera let out a burst of irritation and roughly threw her phone.
Harsh breaths escaped between her teeth.
She had no idea how to compose herself. Every minute, every second, felt like she was going mad with impatience.
What’s more, the woman who had asked her to wait just until the weekend was now completely silent, offering no word. It was a miracle she hadn’t lost her mind from sheer frustration.
Sera squeezed her eyes shut and clenched her fists tightly. The annoyance that still churned in her throat hadn’t dissipated, but she repeated to herself that getting worked up like this wouldn’t solve anything.
Her breathing finally began to stabilize. Her emotions were still all over the place, but not to the point where she couldn’t control herself.
With a much calmer expression, Sera looked at the phone lying on the floor.
She supposed she had to call. She didn’t think Shin Yeonhee would call if she just kept waiting like this.
Sera took decisive steps and picked up her phone. Then, without a hint of hesitation, she found Yeonhee’s number and dialed.
Surprisingly, the ringing stopped quickly. Sera suppressed the urge to lash out immediately.
—…Hello.
The voice that immediately pierced her ear sounded somehow unusual.
It sounded as if something had happened, as if she were on the verge of death. Still, she had no intention of showing any consideration for the woman who had tormented her for days.
“It’s me.”
Sera replied in a sharp voice. As soon as she spoke, she heard a sigh from the other end of the phone.
It felt like a sigh of annoyance. Sera’s brow furrowed uncontrollably.
—I know. Go ahead.
“Huh, what did you say?”
—I said, go ahead and say what you need to say.
The words that followed were even more outrageous. You know? To be so nonchalant even after taking my call.
Sera couldn’t understand Yeonhee’s behavior at all. What’s more, she found it infuriating.
Even if the reason her voice sounded so weak was that she was very sick, Sera would still be angry.
But far from being sick, Yeonhee’s attitude was one of utter defiance.
“Are you playing games with me right now? Didn’t you ask me for time just last weekend? You said you’d call, but not only did you not call, it seems you haven’t even left that house yet?”
Sera clenched her trembling hands tightly. The emotions she had barely suppressed threatened to explode again.
If she had her way, she would have thrown a tantrum according to her nature, but she couldn’t do as she pleased before reclaiming her rightful place.
And she certainly didn’t have the confidence to suppress her rising temper one more time.
“This kind of behavior is unacceptable. You took all my money. You took the money, and now that you’re supposed to leave, you’ve suddenly taken a liking to my husband?”
—Yes.
“Hey, Shin Yeonhee!!”
The irritation she had been holding back finally exploded.
Sera breathed in ragged breaths. Even if she were shameless, this was far beyond the pale.
She had no idea what she was thinking. Unless she had eaten something strange, she wouldn’t dare treat her like this.
Sera gritted her teeth and thought. What should she say? How should she say it to scratch at Shin Yeonhee’s pride?
She pondered more carefully than ever before, when Yeonhee’s voice suddenly cut in.
—Instead of doing this over the phone, let’s talk face to face.
A sigh of disbelief escaped her lips.
What on earth had she eaten to be so bold? Sera had no way of knowing.
However, meeting in person was a better option for Sera than arguing over the phone.
It would be easier to lead the situation as she pleased if she had Yeonhee sitting in front of her. Most importantly, if necessary, she intended to crush Shin Yeonhee’s pride by any means necessary.
“Fine. Let’s do that. I’m in a hotel room right now, so come here in an hour.”
—No. Let’s meet here.
But today, nothing was going easily.
Sera’s eyebrows furrowed, almost automatically, into a V-shape.
“Here? Where are you talking about?”
—The house I’m in. Jung Junhyeok and Yoon Sera’s newlywed home.
She had told herself repeatedly not to react sensitively, but she couldn’t help it.
Sera looked around her newlywed home, which she was entering for the first time.
It was much more luxurious in size than she had expected, but the furniture filling it was surprisingly modest.
Even so, by Shin Yeonhee’s standards, they were incredibly high-end.
Was her place coveted for just this much?
As Sera walked behind Yeonhee, she felt like laughing at the sheer absurdity.
They stopped walking side-by-side in front of the living room sofa.
Yeonhee, who had only shown her back until now, turned around for the first time and met Sera’s gaze.
“Sit down.”
Yeonhee offered Sera a seat. Sera’s expression contorted, visible even in that simple invitation.
Normally, she would have paid attention to every subtle shift in expression, trying not to displease her.
But there was no need for that anymore.
“I’ll sit down whether you tell me to or not. Shin Yeonhee, you seem to be mistaken about something. This house isn’t your house; it’s my house. It’s the newlywed home where Jung Junhyeok and I live.”
As always, Sera retorted, as if she wouldn’t concede a single word.
In the past, she wouldn’t have been able to respond at all, and would have been hurt by the mention of Junhyeok.
But now, Sera’s words no longer hurt or provoked her.
“Think whatever you want. I don’t care what Yoon Sera thinks.”
Yeonhee plopped down on the prime spot of the sofa and lifted a half-filled coffee cup to her lips.
Even as she drank, she had no intention of offering Sera a drink.
There was no reason to.
Yoon Sera wasn’t a guest in this house, and she was no longer someone she needed to impress.
“If you have something to say, say it. Don’t keep biting your lip like that. You’ll draw blood. You’re biting quite hard.”
Yeonhee stated the obvious in a voice as dry as dust. Sera’s brow furrowed terribly.
“Are you crazy? Did something happen in the last few days? Or, after living without, did you suddenly get a taste of a life where you don’t have to worry about money and think you’ve truly ascended in status? Has your mind gone completely blank?”
Yeonhee merely blinked and listened to Sera’s words. Every single word was spoken with the intention of inflicting pain.
The smirk on Sera’s lips contributed greatly to that perception.
Watching her, a surge of anger rose within her. Sera likely had no idea that she was her twin sister.
Still, she felt resentment. She hated Sera, who spoke such harsh words with a face set on hurting her.
Yeonhee felt tears welling up, but she hardened her resolve.
If her sister was determined to hurt her, no matter if she was her own sister, she had no intention of just taking it.
“Yes, I think so. I can’t deny it.”
“Ha, what did you say?”
“When I think about it, isn’t that right? If I live my whole life as Jung Junhyeok’s wife, I’ll gain far more than the 500 million won Yoon Sera gave me. Is it right to return this position for just 500 million won?”
Yeonhee spoke calmly, with a composed face, words she had never even dreamed of.
Sera’s face contorted further and further. Her resolve to give back as much as she received was proving successful.
Yet, Yeonhee didn’t feel relieved. Instead, she felt even more suffocated.
“You really seem to have lost your mind. Listen carefully. That position isn’t something you can decide to return to me or not. It was mine from the beginning, and it remains mine now. Understand?”
Sera shot back, her face flushed with anger. Yeonhee stared blankly at her.
How did it come to this?
How? How did they end up fighting over one man, possibly over their own sister?
Her emotions churned and boiled. It was just the beginning, but she already felt so exhausted she wanted to collapse.
“But why do you look so anxious?”
Still, she had no intention of backing down.
“Ha, what?”
Junhyeok had been her man from the start. More than that, he was a man who needed her.
The reason she shouldn’t have stayed by Junhyeok’s side was because she had nothing. But now, she might even be able to shed the title of having grown up without anything.
If so, she had even less reason to give Junhyeok up to another woman.
Even if it was her own sister.
“Yoon Sera, I’m talking about you. You say this is your place, yet you look like you’re dying of anxiety. As if you’re afraid I’ll really take it away.”
Yeonhee gazed at Sera with eyes filled with a venom she had never shown before.
