Affectionate Obsession - Chapter 28
She couldn’t remember what state of mind she had left the RM Group family’s mansion in.
When she came to her senses, she was in a taxi, and before she knew it, she had arrived in front of the newlywed home she shared with Junhyeok.
If not for the driver’s urging, she might have remained lost in thought for a while longer.
Yeonhee apologized to the driver and paid the fare.
As she got out of the car, she saw Junhyeok lingering in front of the building.
“Haa…….”
Her tension dissolved in an instant. She felt like she could collapse at any moment, but she held herself together.
She didn’t want to show weakness in front of Junhyeok. Perhaps because she had realized such a shocking truth, she felt the same resentment towards Junhyeok.
Knowing all of this, why hadn’t he said anything until now?
Even before that, when had he known about all these things?
Even knowing that wasn’t the most important thing, she couldn’t shake her resentment towards Junhyeok.
Yeonhee began to walk at a steady pace. As the distance closed and he sensed her presence, she knew Junhyeok had spotted her, but she didn’t acknowledge him.
Even when she reached him, she didn’t stop walking; instead, she passed him by coldly.
In the fleeting moment they brushed past each other, she saw his hand move, perhaps intending to grab her, but she kept walking, looking straight ahead.
Soon, she heard his heavy footsteps following behind her. She faced Junhyeok only after entering the house and taking off her coat.
“Did you meet with your parents well?”
Junhyeok’s voice was exceedingly cautious. It was obvious he was speaking while watching her, but even that irritated her.
“Who are my parents?”
“……”
“Does being born to someone make them your parents? The only parents I have are the one lying in the hospital, that one person.”
Yeonhee stared at Junhyeok with eyes that had sharpened without her realizing it. It was a look he had never seen from her before.
Both Junhyeok and Yeonhee were taken aback. However, Yeonhee made no attempt to apologize.
Even if he had meant no harm, she couldn’t accept calling people her parents whom she herself hadn’t yet acknowledged.
Instead of apologizing, Yeonhee hung her coat in the closet and headed to the bathroom.
As she turned on the faucet, the sound of water flowing filled the bathroom. Hiding behind the sound, Yeonhee gripped the sink and lowered her head.
“Haa…….”
A deep sigh escaped her. She couldn’t help it.
The words of Madam Choi Sookhee kept echoing in her mind.
‘Sera, you are my only granddaughter. I know you didn’t want this marriage. Nevertheless, I am very grateful that you did as I wished. You may not fully understand my intentions yet, but I can guarantee one thing with certainty.’
‘…….’
‘Junhyeok will be a strong support for you. This RM, which I built, will also be a strong backing for you, but your position as a bride also needs to be as excellent as our families for it to be perfect.’
‘…….’
‘You are the talent who must lead this RM Group, following in your father’s footsteps. For that reason, you cannot have any flaws. You know what this company means to me, don’t you? What exists today as RM was built with the lifelong efforts of your late grandfather and myself. Therefore, you must inherit it. You must inherit it and lead it to become a global group.’
At the end of her words, Madam Choi Sookhee clasped Yeonhee’s hand, whom she believed to be Yoon Sera, and delivered her final words.
‘This is the task you must accomplish in your life.’
Yeonhee forced a smile and subtly pulled her hand away from Sookhee’s grasp. Then, she quickly picked up the teacup placed before her.
She felt like she was going to throw up. In Choi Sookhee’s eyes, there was not a trace of guilt, let alone remorse.
Only the kindness of a grandmother, the kind one might find in any home, filled her from head to toe.
How could she possibly do that?
When another child, abandoned by this family, was living so openly.
How, how could she be living so well, so unfazed?
Looking at Yoon Sera with such loving eyes, how could she have so cruelly abandoned her own child?
Yeonhee’s anger was unbearable.
Just then, a knock sounded from outside the door.
Yeonhee looked up at the closed bathroom door.
“Yeonhee. Let’s talk for a moment.”
Junhyeok’s voice came through. His tone was still incredibly cautious.
Yeonhee forced down the sigh that rose to her throat. She didn’t want to have any conversation with him yet, no matter what he intended to say.
Her mind was already a mess with the sudden revelation of her birth secret. But running away wouldn’t solve anything.
Yeonhee wet her hands under the running water and wiped her face.
Without even drying herself with a towel, she opened the bathroom door and saw Junhyeok standing right in front of her.
Yeonhee passed him without a word and walked into the living room. She could feel him following.
“Did you eat?”
As soon as she sat on the sofa, Junhyeok asked. Yeonhee stared intently at him. After a long pause, she replied.
“What do you want to say? Let’s get straight to the point. I’m already confused enough.”
Yeonhee spoke in a cold voice and avoided Junhyeok’s eyes.
It was too difficult to keep their gazes locked.
It had been less than 24 hours since she learned this immense truth, and she felt like she was dying.
She even wished she could go back to the time when she didn’t know who her parents were.
She hated Junhyeok for telling her this truth.
She felt resentful that the reason he told her was to keep her by his side.
She thought it would have been better to endure the pain of separation than to remain by his side in this manner.
Even that thought stemmed from selfishness, thinking only of herself.
Yeonhee sighed. Her emotions swung wildly between extremes. The fact that she had to bear it all was simply unbearable.
She just wished this sudden reality was a dream. But Junhyeok’s subsequent words firmly told her that this wish could not be granted.
“I think it’s best to hear your thoughts before I speak.”
“……”
“What I have to say might change depending on your thoughts.”
His voice, which had been so cautious, now flowed in a monotonous tone.
His eyes, which had been focused on her with emotion, had also regained their composure.
The coldness she felt when Junhyeok expressed his concern melted away in an instant, and her emotions began to surge.
“Haa, you want me to tell you my thoughts? If you were me, in this situation, what do you think you would be thinking?”
Yeonhee asked, her voice trembling. Tears welled up instantly, as if she didn’t know how she had held on until now.
“I don’t know what to do at all. You suddenly tell me I’m Yoon Sera’s twin sister, and then you say it’s fortunate that the person I can call family chose Yoon Sera, not me. I am Shin Yeonhee, and I’m Yoon Sera’s twin, and in that family, I’m a non-existent person…!”
Yeonhee, who had been looking at Junhyeok with confused eyes, soon squeezed them shut and covered her face with both hands.
Even as she spoke the words, she couldn’t distinguish what she was saying.
She had no idea what she could do other than be completely consumed by her chaotic emotions and collapse miserably.
Just then, a warm sensation spread across the back of her hands, which were covering her face.
“Yeonhee.”
Yeonhee lifted her tear-streaked eyelids. Then, Junhyeok’s face appeared right before her eyes.
“Your thoughts are important. Knowing all of this, can you live as Shin Yeonhee as before?”
He had a face that looked even more pained than hers. With a contorted expression, he gently wiped away the tears streaming down her cheeks with a soft touch.
Yeonhee bit her lower lip. Junhyeok’s question echoed in her ears.
Knowing all of this, as before.
Could she really do that?
“Haa…….”
Yeonhee squeezed her eyes shut again and let out a heavy sigh. Then, she shook her head.
She didn’t think she could. Not after knowing who her parents were, and hearing that it was fortunate that Yoon Sera was chosen over her, her twin sister.
She didn’t think she could live her whole life with all that resentment and hatred piled up in her heart.
Yeonhee cried out loud, sobbing uncontrollably. It was too painful. With every breath, it felt like thousands of needles were piercing her lungs.
She didn’t remember how long she cried. All she remembered was clinging to Junhyeok’s hand as if it were her last lifeline.
It was only much later that she regained a sliver of consciousness.
“Here.”
A voice suddenly broke through, and Yeonhee barely opened her swollen eyes.
A brown document folder entered her narrowed field of vision.
Yeonhee looked up at Junhyeok.
“These are the corrupt practices within RM Group that I’ve found so far. It’s information I stumbled upon while handling our company’s affairs. I haven’t investigated beyond this material yet, but if you dig deeper, you might uncover something unexpectedly significant.”
Junhyeok’s calm voice pierced her ears. However, she couldn’t understand a single word he said.
“I will do as you say. If you want me to investigate further, I will issue instructions starting tomorrow. If you don’t want that, I have no intention of escalating this matter. If you prefer the latter, this material will naturally be discarded.”
However, with Junhyeok’s subsequent words, Yeonhee felt she understood what lay before her.
“So, you decide. What you want to do, your thoughts are what matter to me.”
Yeonhee took the brown document folder into her hands. The weight transmitted through her fingertips was considerable.
It would be a weapon with just that much threat.
The moment she dreamed of revenge, she could hold and manipulate the people who might be her family.
A cruel and powerful weapon had fallen into her hands.
