Affectionate Obsession - Chapter 20
Junhyeok gazed down at Yeonhee’s sleeping face.
He couldn’t fulfill Yeonhee’s wish to cook dinner. That’s because, to Jeong Junhyeok, Shin Yeonhee was consistently too provocative a woman.
The kisses that made his whole body burn devoured his patience at a rapid pace.
He inevitably mussed Yeonhee’s neat clothes, and tormented her for a long time, enough to dispel all the anxiety he had felt in that short period.
It was always like this. He simply couldn’t control himself with Yeonhee.
He burrowed into her embrace like a half-madman. When he came to his senses, Yeonhee would be blinking her tired eyes, looking as if she were about to faint.
A sense of regret washed over him belatedly, but after that moment passed, it was reset as if such feelings had never existed.
The word “irresistible” was perfect.
Everything related to Shin Yeonhee was always beyond his control.
Today, because of the matter with Yoon Sera, he had tormented Yeonhee even more relentlessly.
On other days, he might have occasionally thought about giving Yeonhee some breathing room, but today he didn’t even have the luxury for that.
‘Sigh, Junhyeok… Why are you like this today, eugh…!’
He knew the signals Yeonhee sent meant she was overwhelmed, but he couldn’t bear it.
He felt like he had to do it, even if only like that.
The short time Yeonhee was away from home had been a hell worse than hell itself for him.
‘Hey, Mr. Jeong Junhyeok! Make some sense! Shin Yeonhee is just a woman I bought with money!! She’s just someone who will quietly step aside from my place if I give her the promised money!’
He couldn’t forget Sera’s venomous voice, even though he knew she was lying.
At the same time, he remembered what Yeonhee had said a few days prior.
‘If we maintain this marriage for a year, she said she’d give me more money. I….’
‘…….’
‘I want that money, Junhyeok.’
She had said that if they maintained their marriage for a year, she would receive more money from Yoon Sera. She had also said she wanted that money.
Therefore, he firmly believed that Yeonhee would not leave him of her own accord for at least a year.
He had completely overlooked the possibility that Yoon Sera could give Yeonhee money even if the year wasn’t fully up.
He realized that loophole only after sending Yoon Sera away as if chasing her out.
Once his thoughts reached that point, he couldn’t continue working.
He couldn’t bear the anxiety, wondering if Yoon Sera, who had stormed out with a face full of resentment, had gone to meet Yeonhee right after.
Even while driving recklessly, he didn’t consider calling Yeonhee.
He felt he could only believe it if he saw it with his own eyes.
If, at the moment he called, Yeonhee was already preparing to leave after meeting Yoon Sera, his call would only serve as a hint that he was rushing to stop her.
So, he couldn’t even bring himself to make a call.
He arrived home in a daze, and Yeonhee, who should have been there, was nowhere to be seen.
His heart pounded violently, as if it were about to burst.
As if by instinct, he searched every corner of the bedroom for any trace of Yeonhee.
Yeonhee’s clothes and luggage were still in their places, yet he couldn’t feel reassured.
What if she had packed everything and left?
The thought made him feel like he was going insane.
If Yeonhee hadn’t returned home with an oblivious look on her face at that very moment, he might have wandered around like a madman who had lost his mind.
“Sigh……”
Junhyeok let out a low sigh. He gently brushed Yeonhee’s hair, which was sleeping soundly.
Her hair flowed softly through his fingers.
Every time he touched Yeonhee with his own hands, a happiness he had forgotten for ten years filled his chest.
He was deliriously happy.
But at the same time, he was deliriously anxious.
Would this happiness silently slip away again? Would it disappear forever?
That thought tormented him incessantly.
Junhyeok, with a bolder touch, stroked Yeonhee’s cheek and kissed her forehead.
The sound of his lips brushing against her forehead echoed in the room.
Yeonhee, who had kept her eyes tightly shut, stirred and slowly lifted her eyelids.
Junhyeok narrowed his brow slightly and looked at Yeonhee with a somewhat apologetic expression.
Then, Yeonhee, barely opening her sleep-heavy eyes, smiled faintly.
“You’re awake?”
“……Weren’t you poking me to wake me up?”
Seeing her reply with a playful tone, it seemed she was tired but not in bad condition.
Junhyeok lowered himself back down from his half-raised position and reached out his arm towards Yeonhee.
As if by instinct, Yeonhee lifted her head, rested it on Junhyeok’s shoulder, and burrowed into his embrace like a child.
Junhyeok couldn’t help but smile.
The anxiety he had felt moments before vanished in the blink of an eye, leaving him filled with pure happiness.
He kissed her forehead again. Then, he pulled her close and gently stroked her back.
“Sleep more. I won’t bother you anymore.”
“Liar.”
“Really. I should get some sleep too.”
“That’s not something someone who acted like a beast until dawn should say.”
“It’s all because of you that I become a beast.”
“Wow, you’re blaming me for that?”
Yeonhee, who had been lying languidly in his arms, lifted her head slightly. Her round eyes narrowed, and her gaze, now full of mischief, shot towards Junhyeok.
It was a rather sharp look, but Junhyeok didn’t lift his lowered eyelids.
He simply tightened his grip on Yeonhee, pressing her body firmly against his.
Without any reply, he rested his cheek on top of her head.
He knew that would be enough of an answer for Yeonhee.
Moreover, the fragrant scent that tickled his nose instantly made his body feel languid.
He suddenly wondered if she knew, at this moment.
That just the scent of his shampoo on her made his heart pound uncontrollably.
“Yeonhee.”
Junhyeok called out to Yeonhee in a voice heavy with sleep.
“Yes, Junhyeok.”
The voice he had only ever dreamed of returned instantly. That too made Junhyeok deliriously happy.
“I love you.”
He tried hard to restrain himself, lest the confession of love burden her, but in the end, he confessed like this.
“I really love you.”
Junhyeok truly loved Yeonhee to the point of madness.
“……”
Yeonhee’s voice, which had responded immediately when he called her name, was not easily heard this time.
But it didn’t matter.
Yeonhee was still in his arms, and it was enough that she didn’t push him away as he held her tighter.
Junhyeok smiled faintly. For some reason, he felt he might be able to sleep soundly tonight, for the first time in a long while.
Just as his consciousness began to fade, and he was about to drift off to sleep.
A sharp, unwelcome noise pierced the peaceful bedroom air.
Junhyeok’s eyelids snapped open.
The first thing he saw was Yeonhee holding the mobile phone that had been by their heads.
Yeonhee was frowning as she looked at the screen. It was unclear whether she was squinting because of the sudden light or because she had received an unwelcome message.
“What message is it?”
Junhyeok asked, as if by habit. He was bothered by her expression, but the heavy drowsiness that had already consumed him made it difficult to overcome.
“Ah, Mom.”
Yeonhee’s voice sounded unusual. Because of that, Junhyeok sat up halfway.
“At this hour? Is something wrong?”
Junhyeok asked with a hint of urgency. Yeonhee hesitated for a moment before shaking her head.
“No. She just asked if I could visit tomorrow.”
“She’s not seriously ill, is she?”
“If she were, the caregiver would have contacted me.”
“That’s true.”
Junhyeok nodded lightly. It was a valid point. Nevertheless, Yeonhee’s expression, which didn’t seem to relax, bothered him.
However, he soon had to get out of bed upon hearing Yeonhee’s next words.
“Junhyeok, I’m sorry, but could you get me a glass of water?”
It wasn’t a difficult request. Even if it were, it was Yeonhee’s request, and there was no reason not to grant it.
Junhyeok hurried to the living room as if he hadn’t been drowsy at all.
Only after confirming Junhyeok had completely left the room did Yeonhee turn her gaze back to the screen.
The number of characters in the text message was not large. However, the sender’s name made Yeonhee’s throat feel heavy.
Let’s meet.
It was a message from Sera.
She had no idea why Sera would send such a message at this late hour.
Yeonhee slowly moved her reluctant hand.
Yes. Please send me the meeting place and time.
I will adjust my schedule and go.
As soon as she sent the message, the number ‘1’ disappeared. It meant the recipient had read the message.
Instead of waiting for a reply, Yeonhee changed her phone’s notification settings to silent.
She didn’t want Junhyeok to find out that Sera had contacted her.
He was already anxious enough.
She had no idea why Sera had contacted her, but she didn’t want to cause Junhyeok unnecessary trouble.
Yeonhee pushed the phone, now set to silent, deep under the pillow.
It was a selfish desire not to have their blissful time together interrupted any further today.
