Affectionate Obsession - Chapter 16
As dawn deepened.
Junhyeok sped down the quiet highway at a dangerous speed.
‘Secretary Kim, I’m sorry to bother you while you were sleeping.’
–Ah, no, sir. But what’s the sudden matter.
‘Something came up, so I think I need to head back to Seoul first. It’s a personal matter, so Secretary Kim, please don’t worry about it. Get a good rest tonight and return tomorrow morning as scheduled.’
–What? Sir, what do you mean, suddenly!
‘Ah, I’ll be taking the car to Seoul with me now. I’m sorry, but Secretary Kim will have to take the KTX tomorrow.’
–Sir! Sir!!
It was almost midnight when I called Secretary Kim.
Although Secretary Kim called back urgently, sounding quite flustered by the sudden notice, Junhyeok’s patience had run out by then.
The phone, having fulfilled its duty, was shoved into his jacket pocket.
Junhyeok headed straight for the parking lot. Someone seemed to call out to him as he passed, but he didn’t look back.
–…I miss you, Junhyeok.
‘…….’
–I miss you so much.
Only Yeonhee’s voice, which seemed somehow filled with moisture, echoed incessantly in his ears.
Junhyeok frowned and looked straight ahead. He had just passed the Seoul toll gate, and the still quiet highway stretched out before him.
He habitually glanced at the time.
[02:37]
Even after hanging up and driving off immediately at breakneck speed, it had taken well over 3 hours.
Considering the distance from Busan to Seoul, three and a half hours was by no means a long time, yet Junhyeok felt only impatience.
Could Yeonhee’s sweet confession of missing him be a prelude to a terrible separation, like ten years ago?
He told himself it couldn’t be, yet he couldn’t shake the thought.
He just felt he had to see Yeonhee in person, for now.
He had to fill his eyes with her, hold her in his arms, and fill his lungs with her scent.
With that single thought, Junhyeok pressed down harder on the accelerator.
“Hoo…”
Yeonhee, who had been tossing and turning for over two hours, sat up.
Glancing at the time, she saw it was past 3 AM.
Normally, she would have fallen asleep after tossing and turning, but for some reason, she couldn’t sleep tonight.
“……”
Yeonhee looked at the empty space beside her.
Junhyeok’s vacant spot felt utterly unfamiliar.
She found it absurd that she couldn’t adapt, having only slept in the same bed for such a short time.
She had told herself that she would have to leave eventually, so she shouldn’t foster useless emotions.
Yet, after two hours of sleeplessness, Yeonhee’s heart still yearned for Junhyeok.
Controlling emotions when you couldn’t freely pursue them, even with a clear destination in mind, was far more exhausting than she had imagined.
Yeonhee pressed her temples.
She felt a headache coming on, though she hadn’t had one before.
“……Is there any milk at home.”
She murmured softly and got up.
When she was a child and couldn’t sleep, Yeonjeong would warm up milk for her.
She remembered how much it helped her sleep.
As she walked towards the living room, unsure if there was even milk in the refrigerator since she hadn’t shopped herself, Yeonhee stopped abruptly at a sound.
It was a familiar sound.
It was the sound of the door lock’s keypad being entered, a sound she remembered as clearly as her own.
With a growing sense of unease, Yeonhee slowly moved her feet towards the front door.
There was no one who would be entering the door lock’s code at this hour.
The only people who knew the code were herself and Junhyeok, and she was inside the house while Junhyeok was in Busan.
Who on earth was entering the code at this hour?
Just as a bead of sweat threatened to break out from an indescribable fear, she saw a familiar silhouette emerge from the darkness.
“Who….”
Even though it was familiar, she couldn’t see his face clearly, so she intended to ask who it was.
But before she could even utter the short question, her mouth was covered.
“Mmph…!”
In an instant, someone closed the distance, grabbed her face with a large hand, and pressed their lips against hers.
Yeonhee’s eyes widened as she struggled. But even that didn’t last long.
The all-too-familiar scent pierced her nostrils.
Her heart moved before her mind, and her entire body reacted even faster.
It was Junhyeok.
The touch of his hand stroking her cheek, the rough intrusion of his tongue between her teeth, and.
“Ha, haa…”
“Why are you doing this without turning on the lights.”
The breath and words spoken with their foreheads touching were undeniably Junhyeok’s.
“Why, how… What happened at this hour?”
Yeonhee asked a jumbled question, still surprised. In response, a series of small kisses followed.
Peck, peck, peck.
The sound of him sucking and releasing with force echoed quite seductively.
Yeonhee tightly gripped Junhyeok’s hand that held her cheek, surrendering to him.
The light kisses turned into a deep kiss, and the body standing in the middle of the living room soon found itself pressed against the wall, unable to resist the man’s strength.
His tongue, which had plunged in without restraint, not only awakened dormant flesh but also stimulated and traced the delicate skin inside her mouth, making her exquisitely sensitive.
Yeonhee found the storm of kisses overwhelming, yet at the same time, she felt her entire body heating up as the kisses grew more intense.
She paid no mind to her startled heart or her mind that had gone blank because of it.
The kisses he poured onto her seemed to soothe the loneliness that had kept her awake late into the night, making Yeonhee cling to Junhyeok even more.
The wet sound of their saliva mixing filled the empty space, and their increasingly rough breaths heated the air surrounding them.
Her whole body felt like it was burning to ashes. Then, their lips parted, and ragged breaths escaped.
“Ha, haa…”
Yeonhee closed her eyes tightly and gasped for breath.
Everywhere her skin touched Junhyeok’s, she felt a jolt like an electric shock. Yet, it still didn’t feel real.
When they had spoken on the phone, he was in Busan. Yet, he had appeared before her eyes in just a few hours.
Yeonhee looked at Junhyeok with bewildered eyes.
The moment their eyes met lasted only a brief, scant three seconds.
But in that short time, Junhyeok, sensing Yeonhee’s feelings, moved his lips.
“You said you missed me.”
“……Huh?”
“You said you missed me, remember?”
Yeonhee’s pupils trembled violently.
It was true, but it had been an impulsive remark.
She had never meant for him to drive all the way from Busan to Seoul at this late hour because of those words.
However, Junhyeok seemed to think differently.
Unlike Yeonhee, who couldn’t quite accept the situation, Junhyeok looked at her with eyes full of confidence, as if there were no problem at all.
“But how could I have waited until tomorrow.”
“Because I said I missed you. Did you really drive here this late because of those words?”
Yeonhee’s voice trembled precariously.
She desperately hoped Junhyeok would deny it, that he hadn’t appeared before her at this hour because of those words.
If he said yes, she felt she wouldn’t be able to control the emotions she was barely holding onto.
“It’s not just because you said you missed me.”
Junhyeok, uncharacteristically, paused and caught his breath.
That brief moment made Yeonhee tense with unbearable anticipation.
But Junhyeok’s subsequent words brought Yeonhee a belated realization.
“It’s because it was you who said it that I came.”
Yeonhee bit her lower lip hard. It was a statement with more impact than the words “I miss you.”
Her already turbulent emotions surged even more, beginning to consume Yeonhee.
Her heart pounded wildly, and a warmth quickly spread to her eyes.
Unaware of this, Junhyeok gazed at her with a more serious look than ever before and gently stroked her cheek.
“What am I supposed to do?”
Yeonhee murmured with a confused expression.
Her mind was a complete mess.
No matter how many times she thought about it, she shouldn’t close the distance between herself and Junhyeok.
A clear line was necessary between Jung Junhyeok and Shin Yeonhee, both for his future and for herself.
She had thought this from the beginning and had tried her best to maintain distance, but she always failed when faced with such blind affection.
Still, she felt she had to draw a line, even now.
Even though she had impulsively said she missed him, she had to try to draw a line, no matter how many times she failed.
That was Yeonhee’s conclusion.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t do it.
No matter how hard she tried, it didn’t seem possible.
No, she didn’t want to try.
“But now that I think about it.”
How could she draw a line?
“Driving like a madman from Busan to Seoul at this hour.”
His gaze towards her was consistently so tender and warm.
“I think it’s because I missed you even more.”
There wasn’t a single word he spoke that didn’t pierce her heart.
“Shin Yeonhee, I really missed you.”
Yeonhee wrapped her arms around Junhyeok’s neck. Then, she kissed him.
She didn’t need to hear anything more.
She already knew his heart well enough.
Therefore, what was needed at this moment was not words, but action.
She wanted to be held passionately.
