Chapter 5: The First World – Cyberpunk (5)
How is the male lead so fast? He started from a point further away than them and even got into a street brawl with passersby, yet he managed to reach the finish line at the same time as them. Moreover, the route they took to escape was planned by Lilith on the fly—how did Su Wang know where to go?
Little Coward pointed at the female cop. “She is his harem member, and you are his sidekick. The male lead just pulled off a cool “quadra-kill” and needs the admiration of his sidekick and the “throwing-themselves-into-his-arms” affection of his harem.”
Huh?
“He just randomly respawns around you guys, just like the female cop randomly respawns around him.”
Lin Qingyu didn’t believe it. This wasn’t scientific; the novel’s tag was Cyberpunk, not Infinite Flow. If the male lead could teleport or blink, he’d have been gunned down by random passersby long ago. Little Coward explained a bunch of stuff about “destiny” and “coincidence,” but Lin Qingyu’s head just started to ache.
This couldn’t go on. His mission was to be the male lead’s “White Moonlight,” not to be hunted down by a lunatic. Catching a glimpse of the cop nearby, Lin Qingyu started doing the math in his head. He was 1.85 meters tall, and his muscles were earned with real sweat and money.
Although all his combat experience came from short-form “action” dramas, with a build this large, if he managed to pin the male lead down, he should be able to “hard-crowd-control” him for a few minutes.
Lilith used to hunt the male lead daily, and every meeting involved a set of grappling techniques, meaning she understood Su Wang’s weaknesses and habits. If they teamed up, 2 against 1, there was an 80% chance they could capture Su Wang.
Lin Qingyu gave Lilith a wink. The cop closed her eyes.
Lin Qingyu didn’t get it. Lilith had fought the male lead countless times; her strength should be comparable, so why didn’t she have the courage to even go toe-to-toe with him anymore?
They spent a bit too long exchanging glances, and Su Wang walked out of the shadows, edging toward them. “What are you two chatting about? You didn’t even invite me.” He tilted his head to look around, as if he had just realized this was Beauty Street, and his expression suddenly darkened. “You came here? Qingyu, are you selling yourself again?”
The cop turned her head away. Lin Qingyu felt a headache coming on. “How dedicated do you think I am? I just finished dying and I’m already back at work? Besides, I’m not a gigolo!”
Su Wang was clearly taken aback. “No, I was asking if you were pimping again. What did you just mean?”
“…Nothing, misunderstanding.”
Su Wang clearly didn’t believe him. He pushed up his glasses, looked him up and down for a long moment, and slowly started to laugh. “Qingyu, you’ve been doing more and more bad things. But it doesn’t matter; it’s fine no matter how dirty you are now—I’ll wash you clean.”
The sentence made no sense, and Lin Qingyu didn’t understand it, so he just blinked at him. Su Wang skipped the topic. “Don’t be afraid, Qingyu. I’m not here to kill you. Come here, let me show you something good.” He excitedly reached into his pocket and pulled out a palm-sized hilt. He pressed a button, and a laser sword snapped out.
Who doesn’t love a laser sword? This was the first time Lin Qingyu had seen such high-tech gear, so he craned his neck to get a better look. Lilith tugged on him. Lin Qingyu obediently retreated a few steps, moving to a relatively safe distance.
Su Wang kept his head down, appearing not to notice their movement. He stood there, spinning the blade a few times and toggling through the colors. It glowed red, then blue—it was truly beautiful.
“Well, Qingyu, isn’t it cool? It was very expensive, I had to go to a lot of trouble to snatch it.”
He had to snatch it? It seemed “hunger marketing” was a thing in the cyberpunk world, too. Listening to the biu-biu sound effect of the light sword, Lin Qingyu nodded greedily. “It’s cool.”
“Right? I knew you’d like it. There are many colors, which one do you want to see?”
“Red. Red is cool, and festive.”
Su Wang switched the sword to red and waved it around. “Like this?”
Lin Qingyu realized that the male lead was actually quite easy to get along with when he wasn’t going crazy. Just as he nodded, Su Wang lunged forward like a rabid dog. The laser sword swept horizontally, biu-biu-ing toward his waist.
Lin Qingyu: ??? Was that necessary?!
A split second before Lin Qingyu was cut in half, Lilith kicked him in the waist, sending him sprawling. Lin Qingyu rolled across the floor, clutching his waist with one hand and grabbing a beer bottle with the other, hurling it at the male lead.
Su Wang’s head was knocked to the side by the bottle, but he didn’t even bother to correct his posture; he just tilted his head and stared at him. The red laser light illuminated his pale face. His eyes were sparkling—he didn’t know what kind of mischief he was cooking up, but he was so excited he had actually laughed out loud, his cheeks flushed with glee.
Lin Qingyu decided that Su Wang didn’t need a “White Moonlight”—he needed a psychiatrist. He should be strapped to a chair and poked with needles until his brain returned to normal!
Little Coward, watching from the sidelines, slapped its hand. “I’ve realized that what you’re lacking isn’t items, it’s an IQ. He’s already stabbed you twice, and you still haven’t learned your lesson.”
“I’m sorry, please take your hand off the complaint button, don’t report me.”
Lin Qingyu didn’t think he was stupid, it was just that Su Wang’s behavior was completely illogical and unpredictable. If someone could chat and smile while planning to murder you, then what kind of expression would count as truly happy or relaxed? Regardless, Lin Qingyu had definitely died enough times to gain experience:
Su Wang wanted to kill him every single second of the day. Every word he said and every action he took was meant to deceive him. Whenever they met, he should either fight or run—under no circumstances should he chat with Su Wang.
Lin Qingyu chose to fight. The male lead had a gun; at this distance, no matter how fast they ran, could they outrun a bullet?
“Don’t hesitate—if we don’t attack, we’re both going to die!” Lin Qingyu yelled at Lilith, who was still wavering. He grabbed a passing delivery robot and hurled it, along with the package it was carrying, at the male lead. Taking advantage of the moment Su Wang side-stepped to avoid it, Lin Qingyu rushed forward, holding a metal trash can lid in front of him, and guardedly faced the male lead.
The cop snapped back to reality and threw a small package that had fallen to the ground at Su Wang. The robot, which had already turned around, immediately buzzed and chased after him. Su Wang was bumped in the ear by it and swatted it away impatiently. Seeing that his attention was elsewhere, Lin Qingyu lunged forward a few steps, raised the trash can lid, and slammed it into his face.
No matter how annoyed he was, Su Wang was his client. He was his bonus, his protein powder, his personal trainer, and his funding for his acting dreams. He swung his arm with all his might, but seeing Su Wang didn’t dodge, he hurriedly pulled his punch, terrified of accidentally killing the client.
With a loud BANG, the trash can lid snapped onto Su Wang’s face. Lilith intended to finish him off, but Su Wang suddenly went limp, collapsing into Lin Qingyu’s arms.
Why did he pass out so easily? High attack, low defense?
Lin Qingyu had never acted in a BL drama. Being held by a man for the first time in his life, his brain went blank. After a half-second hesitation between pushing him off or holding him, he decisively tossed the man toward the cop. In his mind, Lilith would take the opportunity to restrain him. The female cop adopted a professional stance, but with a thump, she was pinned to the ground by Su Wang.
Lin Qingyu poked the unconscious male lead and then looked at Lilith, who was being pinned down and couldn’t catch her breath. “Are you suffering from blood loss? You have no strength left?”
Lilith panted heavily. “Probably… plus, he’s much heavier than I am.”
Lin Qingyu let out an “Oh,” and dragged the dead-weight male lead away. Worried he was faking, he kicked him a few times and even humiliated him by stepping on his face. The man’s glasses were crooked, and he lay on his side on the floor, unmoving. He didn’t wake up even then—it seemed it was real.
He took off his belt and tied the male lead up, just in case this rabid dog woke up halfway and started biting people again. The cop was changing her bandages, and Lin Qingyu went over to watch. He touched Lilith’s bandaged wrist; the gauze had long since been soaked through with blood. The clammy, sticky sensation on his fingertips caused Lin Qingyu’s hot-blooded brain to gradually cool down.
Something is wrong. When did his nerves become so thick? As an unremarkable stunt double—whose only outstanding feature was his chest muscles—the most terrifying sight Lin Qingyu had ever seen was a car accident. An elderly couple and their son were sent flying by a speeding truck.
Lin Qingyu had watched the whole thing; the darkness and the roar of the impact had filled his world. Flesh and blood rained down like water, and he had sat paralyzed on the ground, soaked by the rain. Lin Qingyu still remembered that he hadn’t even had the strength to stand up.
Now, in the cyberpunk world, seeing his first-ever murder scene, he hadn’t screamed—instead, he had leaned in to inspect it. He’d been killed by Su Wang twice, been dumped in a trash heap and seen piles of corpses, and watched a cop gnaw on her own limbs to survive. Having experienced so many horrific things, his mental state was surprisingly stable; there was absolutely no discomfort.
Lin Qingyu asked the system if it had secretly enabled a “censor” for him. Little Coward said it didn’t have anything that advanced—it hadn’t even been able to get a request for a “pain blocker” approved. That truly is pathetic.
Thinking carefully, neither Lilith nor Su Wang had ever shown an expression of pain. Is this the ‘blessing’ of the Cyberpunk world-view? Lin Qingyu looked tall, sturdy, and fierce, but he was terrified of pain. He hoped future worlds would come with a “no pain” buff.
Lilith was a fish in water on Beauty Street; almost every staff member who saw her greeted her. She was a cop with excellent professional skills, specializing in infiltration and intelligence gathering. In the original book, Lilith’s highlight moment was choosing to abandon her identity as a cop and go on the run with the male lead.
Wait, could Lilith suddenly being wanted by the government be because the time had come and the original plot was being triggered automatically? No, that didn’t make sense—this plot point had a prerequisite. The cop had to voluntarily join the male lead’s harem, and they had to engage in “shameful” activities. Lilith had to be pregnant and get a positive test result before she made up her mind.
Little Coward spread the book out for Lin Qingyu to see. “Holy crap, this is trashy—how did these chapters pass censorship?!”
Looking at it this way, for Lilith, the plot breaking was actually a good thing. She could live like an independent person instead of an accessory.
Lin Qingyu carried Su Wang like a bag of rice, following Lilith as she zig-zagged through the shops. The red and purple lights illuminated her charming, alluring face. Lin Qingyu felt a moment of dizziness. Didn’t the original book say Lilith’s features were exquisite yet heroic, her gaze firm and sharp, like a “Beauty Snake” waiting for its prey? She’s so different from the image I had in my head.
“The original book also wrote that when she caught criminals, her petite body would dodge and weave between burly men. It wrote that she would glare coyly at the male lead, and her fair, slender jade hands would slap his face…”
Enough, stop reading.
The system closed the novel. “Female, police officer, has been hunting Su Wang, imprisoned by the male lead, named Lilith, single, good-looking. That’s right, she’s the one we’re looking for.”
Lin Qingyu pulled up the backend—the sub-mission to “Rescue the Cop” was still active. He probably had to wait until the male lead had completely lost his murderous intent for the mission to count as finished.
Little Coward suddenly let out a “Wow.” Lin Qingyu followed its gaze, and his brain went buzzing.
