- Chapter 5 - The Azure Dragon Gang: Long Aotian’s Borrowed Might
“Boss, that person was so powerful. Why are we still going to trash his house?”
One of the thugs standing next to Yellow Hair felt his legs turn to jelly just thinking about the way Wen Zui had decimated everyone earlier. He did not dare to disobey his leader’s orders, but now that he had regained his senses, a wave of lingering fear washed over him, drenching his back in a cold sweat.
“What are you afraid of, you coward? If the sky falls, your boss will hold it up! Wen Zui does not have three heads and six arms. What is there to fear?”
Yellow Hair glared fiercely at his subordinate before looking down at his own palm, which had been pierced by a shard of the broken blade. The clinic doctor had told him his hand was essentially ruined and that he would not even be able to hold a bowl in the future. How could he not feel hatred?
“I am not just going to trash his home. I am going to destroy that woman’s bun shop too! Then I will strip her clothes off and see how she tastes!”
“But Boss, the Big Boss only told us to scout out the residents near the orphanage. He told us not to alert the enemy. If you do this and the Big Boss finds out…”
Before he could finish, he was cut off by Yellow Hair’s cold, murderous gaze.
“Xiao Wu, do you have a death wish?”
Xiao Wu immediately shrank back and shut his mouth. However, in his heart, he secretly resolved to stop Yellow Hair’s actions. Perhaps the Big Boss would even promote him to be the leader of this area instead? Driven by this thought, Xiao Wu was suddenly filled with motivation.
Meanwhile, Yun Qi had no intention of hunting down Yellow Hair. Instead, he led Wen Zui directly to the headquarters of the Azure Dragon Gang. Wen Zui strode boldly up to the man in black guarding the door and gave a sharp whistle.
“Go on. I want to see your boss.”
The guard was a tall, dark-skinned man standing at 185 centimeters. Dressed in a well-fitted suit and sunglasses with bulging muscles, he looked like a highly trained professional fighter. In contrast, Wen Zui wore pants that were half a size too short and an old, tattered black cotton jacket. Aside from his strikingly handsome face and 188-centimeter height, he looked exactly like an ordinary college student.
The guard frowned, suspecting Wen Zui had lost his mind.
“Do you know where you are, kid? Do not let your ignorance get you in trouble. This is not a place for someone like you.”
“What place? It is just the headquarters of a third-rate gang. What is the matter? If you will not announce me, I will just have to fight my way in.”
Relying on Yun Qi’s presence, Wen Zui spoke as arrogantly as possible, acting as though he wanted to provoke the man to death. Seeing this, Yun Qi let out a soft, amused huff.
“Disciple, do you not think you are acting a bit punchable?”
Wen Zui, who was fully immersed in his own performance, startled at the sound of Yun Qi’s deep voice. He quickly tried to flatter him mentally: Oh Master, I know that even if a hundred people came, they would be no match for you.
“The protagonist’s skin is truly thick! He is so annoying! No wonder he attracted so much hatred in the early parts of the story,” the small silver ball floating above Wen Zui’s head remarked ruthlessly.
Yun Qi curled his lips slightly. The pressure of the snake coiled around Wen Zui’s wrist tightened slightly, serving as both a silent show of support and a warning.
The guard was infuriated by Wen Zui’s words and threw a heavy punch, but Wen Zui dodged it with ease. Wen Zui clenched his fist in disbelief, feeling a surge of power that did not belong to him. A layer of faint blue light, which was Yun Qi’s spiritual energy, coated his skin.
At that moment, Yun Qi spoke again. “Go ahead. I will not possess your body this time. Fight your way in yourself.”
“You got it!”
Wen Zui responded promptly. He sidestepped the guard’s elbow strike and sent him flying with a single kick. Then, he calmly pushed open the doors of the Azure Dragon Gang.
Realizing things were bad, the guard scrambled to grab the walkie-talkie from his waist to report the situation.
“Beep! Beep! Beep!”
In an instant, the Azure Dragon Gang’s alarm blared. Countless thugs with black hair, yellow hair, and every other color imaginable rushed out. Carrying wooden clubs, steel pipes, and watermelon knives, they glared at Wen Zui with ill intent.
The man leading them looked at the arrogant Wen Zui and then at the guard slumped in the corner. He suddenly became interested.
“Old Wu, a college student whose hair has not even fully grown in beat you like this? I think you are just getting old and useless.”
“Zhang Erduo, stop making sarcastic remarks! He is not a normal person! Get him, quickly!”
Zhang Erduo clearly did not believe him. He ignored Old Wu’s warning, and the mocking curve of his lips grew more pronounced.
“Then let me show you how I make him cry for his mother!”
Zhang Erduo cracked his wrists dramatically and charged with a wooden club, only to be punched across the room and slammed into the opposite wall. The two guards stared at each other from across the hall like the long sides of a triangle.
“Boss!” “Boss! Are you okay?”
A group of lackeys rushed forward to help Zhang Erduo up.
“Wow, you talked a big game, but you are just as weak as he is. Tsk. Your gang’s strength is really nothing special, is it?”
Wen Zui poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue, his face full of provocation. He rolled his eyes, thought of something, and added, “Just come at me all at once. I am in a hurry.”
The crowd grew even more furious. They surrounded Wen Zui in layers and charged forward together.
“Master, the protagonist is plagiarizing your lines,” the System noted.
“Heh, it is fine. It is quite entertaining.”
Yun Qi chatted with the System while keeping his eyes fixed on Wen Zui. Is this so-called Long Aotian protagonist a bit too trusting? He had placed so much faith in him that the wariness from their first meeting had completely vanished.
Just because I saved him? Yun Qi’s lips curled into a cynical smile. He found it somewhat ridiculous. It was nothing more than a biting the hand that feeds ruse. The boy was as foolish as Yun Qi himself had once been.
In the short time he had been thinking, Wen Zui had already knocked everyone down. He brushed back his slightly long bangs, revealing his forehead and exceptionally handsome features. He looked so cool that one might be tempted to kneel at his feet. Yun Qi’s own lips twitched into a small smile.
“Clap. Clap. Clap.”
A soft sound of clapping emerged from the midst of the groans. Wen Zui looked up in surprise to see a man in his thirties, dressed in a sharp suit with a deep, composed aura.
“Young man, are you interested in joining the Azure Dragon Gang? I am the leader, Zhao Xian. If my men have offended you, I hope you can find it in your heart to be patient with us.”
Wen Zui was about to compliment the man’s good taste, but upon realizing he was the leader of the Azure Dragon Gang, he immediately became critical. He looks decent enough, but why is he inviting me to what is clearly a Hongmen Banquet?
Complaining inwardly, Wen Zui decided to be blunt. “Leader Zhao, I am a very petty person. I have no interest in joining this gang. However, I have a question you need to answer for me. Once that is done, I will leave immediately.”
Despite Wen Zui’s abrasive words, Zhao Xian did not get angry. He maintained a kind smile and gestured to someone beside him. An elderly man in his late fifties nodded and approached Wen Zui.
“Young man, this way please. There must be some misunderstanding. Why do we not sit down and have a cup of tea?”
Wen Zui had always respected the elderly. Facing such a kind-looking old man, he found it hard to say anything else and followed him. Anyway, Master is here. Nothing bad will happen, he thought happily. He could not help but reach out and touch Yun Qi, who was wrapped around his right wrist.
Caught off guard, Yun Qi immediately flicked his tail in annoyance, hitting Wen Zui’s hand with a sharp smack.
“Do not touch me recklessly. Did your teachers never teach you to respect your elders and masters?”
Wen Zui’s brow furrowed, and he winced as he rubbed the red mark on his hand. Master can bite me in those kinds of places, but I am not even allowed to touch him! It is a classic case of the officials being allowed to set fires while the commoners are not even allowed to light a lamp!
Wen Zui’s indignation did not last long, as the three of them soon arrived at a private room. Zhao Xian smiled and poured a cup of tea for Wen Zui before speaking.
“Young man, what exactly happened? Please tell me everything. There must be a misunderstanding.”
Wen Zui let out a cold laugh. “What? Is the Azure Dragon Gang afraid to admit what it has done? You sent a guy with yellow hair to trash my friend’s bun shop and my rental apartment, and now you want to act like you do not know anything about it?”
“This…” Zhao Xian frowned. He truly had no idea where this incident had come from. “Young man, this was certainly not done on my orders. Regardless of the circumstances, I will compensate you for the damages. How does that sound?”
“Oh, Uncle Zhang, I believe there is a three-bedroom apartment under my name that has been vacant for a long time, is there not?” Zhao Xian asked rhetorically. Without waiting for Uncle Zhang to answer, he made a decision. “The property will be transferred to your name within the day. Please, lower your anger.”
Zhao Xian smiled and took a red property certificate from Uncle Zhang, handing it to Wen Zui. “I will have the new deed placed directly in the house for you. Are you satisfied?”
A house?
This was Haicheng, a city where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold. Even a bathroom in Haicheng cost a million yuan! Wen Zui’s anger vanished instantly. He looked at the property certificate with a beaming smile. Was this the house Yun Qi mentioned? Can he actually tell the future?
“I suppose there really must have been a misunderstanding. Brother Zhao, you are such a good person.”
After saying this, he seemed to remember something and cleared his throat. “Even so, I am still not joining your gang!”
“It does not matter. Consider it a gift.” Zhao Xian leaned back with a smile. “As for whoever offended you, I will make sure he comes to your door to kowtow and apologize today. Our gang has no room for someone like him.”
Wen Zui’s mouth hung open so wide an egg could have fit inside. He secretly pinched his thigh under the table to make sure he was not dreaming. Is this gang leader crazy?
But it is a house! Only an idiot would not take a freebie! Wen Zui immediately accepted the situation and happily spoke to Yun Qi in his mind.
“Master, I have realized you have a very good name.”
“What do you mean?”
“Yun Qi. It sounds like the word for luck. Ever since I met you, my luck has become amazing!”
