A Guide to Capturing the Gentle Older Sister - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The shadows of the trees swayed. Yu Weiwei tilted her face up, feeling the breeze brush against her skin.
The two of them sat under a plane tree, each holding a cup of yogurt and spacing out. The tree seemed to possess a magical quality, as if time itself slowed down upon entering its domain.
Yu Weiwei peeked at Jiang Wu. In such an environment, she wanted to speak to her but didn’t know what to say.
Her gaze was caught by Jiang Wu, who smiled faintly: “What is it?”
Yu Weiwei shook her head bashfully.
“Sister, are you in Nancheng for work?”
“Yes. There’s a big deal over here.”
“Oh… then, did we interrupt your official business…”
“No, it’s basically finished. People need to relax too, right?” Jiang Wu anticipated her fretting, her gaze offering reassurance.
“That’s good then.” Yu Weiwei hugged her knees, the light in her eyes rippling like peach blossom water.
“Sister, you are so kind.”
“Why are you praising me again?” Jiang Wu found it funny.
“I just feel like you’re so gentle and emotionally stable. It makes people trust you wholeheartedly without even realizing it, as if it’s okay even if one makes a mistake. So gentle.”
“Goody, is that such a high evaluation?” Jiang Wu tilted her head to look at her, her gaze as soft as the sunlight filtering down.
“Yes.” Yu Weiwei nodded vigorously.
A lingering smile played on Jiang Wu’s lips, but her gaze grew a bit distant, as if she were recalling a time from long ago.
“Actually, I used to be just like you.”
Yu Weiwei’s eyes widened, her face clearly saying “I can’t imagine that.”
She reached out and stroked Yu Weiwei’s head, her movements tender and full of comfort.
“Time will take you to places you never imagined. So, don’t presuppose the ending too early; just do what you want to do now.”
“Don’t be afraid.”
Her gaze was so certain, as if she had already seen through all of Yu Weiwei’s anxieties.
“Okay… thank you, Sister.” Yu Weiwei looked at her intently and nodded.
“Good girl.”
The four of them didn’t linger in Nancheng for too long. After all, the working professionals had to work and the students had to attend classes. So, after sharing a meal, they took the evening high-speed train back to Haicheng.
Kuang Yao and their roommate Chen Yan, who had just returned to the dorm, were waiting for them at the exit. They hadn’t been around when Mi Shushu went back to the dorm the previous night; otherwise, they certainly would have tagged along.
Now, from a distance, they stared at the two in the crowd, carefully checking to see if they had any injuries.
Mi Shushu, who had been full of laughter and chatter along the way, saw the two and charged forward like a small cannonball, pulling them into a hug.
“Did you two really worry that Weiwei and I would get lost? Please, how is that possible?” She curled her lip in complaint, yet her eyes quietly turned red.
Kuang Yao and Chen Yan pretended not to notice and scolded her.
“Yu Weiwei has no brains, so why did you follow suit and lose yours? Didn’t you know to wait for the two of us to come back so we could go together?”
That was definitely Kuang Yao.
“Oh, don’t talk to the child like that. My cub, I’ve already done the math for you—it’s a good breakup. That dead scumbag was blocking your financial luck. I have several ‘broad-shouldered’ juniors in my club. I’ll introduce them to you.”
Mi Shushu buried herself in their arms, still shouting: “Then hurry up and push their WeChat to me.”
“Your dormitory has such a good relationship,” Ning Ran remarked with a smile.
“It’s alright.” Yu Weiwei felt warmth in her heart as well, but as soon as she stepped forward, she heard Kuang Yao saying she had no brains.
“Hey, that’s too much! I heard you talking bad about me from all the way over there. I have plenty of brains, okay?”
She turned back to introduce the two behind her: “Sister, Sister Ning Ran, these are our roommates, Kuang Yao and Chen Yan.”
“This is Sister Jiang Wu and Sister Ning Ran. They are the ones who helped us in Nancheng this time.”
“Hello, Sisters.” Chen Yan, busy coaxing Mi Shushu, gave a sweet smile.
Kuang Yao remained expressionless.
Ning Ran raised an eyebrow: “Oh, so you and Yao-yao are roommates. Yao-yao, why aren’t you saying hello?”
Kuang Yao was the first to turn around: “Let’s go.”
“Huh?” Yu Weiwei looked at her in confusion, then looked at Ning Ran and the silent Jiang Wu.
Jiang Wu stroked her hair: “It’s getting late. Goody should go back and rest early too.”
“Oh… okay.”
On the way back, Yu Weiwei still tried to gossip.
“Kuang-kuang, come clean. What exactly is your family relationship?”
Mi Shushu played the hype man: “Yeah, yeah, I want to hear it too. Not to be rude, but you and Sister Jiang Wu don’t look like relatives at all with that foul temper of yours.”
Chen Yan: “I want to hear too.”
Kuang Yao faced three pairs of gossiping eyes.
The corner of her mouth twitched as she dropped a bombshell.
“I’m in a relationship.”
“Huh? Did you finally switch from straight to gay?” This was Yu Weiwei.
“Huh? Did you finally give up on your sister completely?” This was Mi Shushu.
“Huh? Haven’t you been dating your sister this whole time?” This was Chen Yan.
The four of them: ???
