A Guide to Capturing the Gentle Older Sister - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Yu Weiwei slept for a very long time.
She picked up her phone from under the pillow; it was 2:30 PM. The dormitory group chat was flooded with over 99 messages. Since last night, Mi Shushu had been live-streaming her adventures in Nancheng to Kuang Yao and the others in the group, and she was still providing updates. It turned out Mi Shushu and Ning Ran had been out playing all day.
Exiting the main chat, she saw a specific reminder from Mi Shushu.
“Babe, call me when you wake up. Let’s get Sister Jiang Wu tonight and go out for a big feast. I’ve already made the reservation.”
She seemed to be recovering well.
But Yu Weiwei knew that she was using her lively and cheerful exterior to prop up her pride.
Still, having someone to play with was always better.
She smiled while looking at the selfie of Mi Shushu and Ning Ran on the screen.
Scrolling further, the next message was from Jiang Wu.
“I’m working in the room next to yours. Call me when you wake up, and I’ll take you out to eat.”
Yu Weiwei’s fingers twitched as she recovered a fragment of memory.
She dimly recalled Jiang Wu’s voice in the car, trailing off with a smile.
Little Goody.
Normally, Yu Weiwei would have jumped up in a mix of shock and shyness. But waking up after a long afternoon slumber always brought a wave of inexplicable melancholy.
Yu Weiwei walked barefoot to the window and pulled back the curtain.
The hotel was nestled in a deep alley lined with plane trees, and it was very quiet at the moment. The September sun in Nancheng was no longer scorching, and the plane trees on both sides of the alley looked quite old, huddling together like the elderly men beneath them, casting a thick layer of shade.
Children ran beneath the trees, and an occasional bicycle passed by.
She couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace. In moments like these, she truly felt alive.
Yu Weiwei’s literary skills weren’t high, but while looking at the plane trees, a line inexplicably popped into her head: “In the small building last night, I listened to the spring rain. In the deep alley tomorrow morning, apricot blossoms will be sold.”
She laughed at herself for the thought.
With that laugh, the hazy sorrow of waking up vanished, and Yu Weiwei finally realized she was hungry.
w: “Sister, I’m awake. Have you eaten yet?”
Jiang Wu replied very quickly.
Not yet. Let’s go out and eat together in a bit.”
w: “Okay.”
Yu Weiwei scratched her chin, unable to help wondering: Was Sister waiting for me to wake up?
Jiang Wu really was a wonderful person, appearing to be a truly gentle, inclusive, and doting older sister.
Yu Weiwei had her own older brothers and sisters, but every single one of them had been molded into Iron Warriors with excellent grades and immense executive power. She much preferred this kind of intimate tenderness.
Once Yu Weiwei had finished getting ready, Jiang Wu came to knock on the door, holding a small bag of pastries from a very popular brand in Nancheng.
“Sister?” Her obedient puppy eyes looked even more innocent.
“Eat a little bit to line your stomach. You’ve slept so long, you must be hungry,” Jiang Wu chuckled softly.
“Oh, oh.” Yu Weiwei was a bit sheepish. “Thank you, Sister.”
“Good girl.”
Yu Weiwei blushed unexpectedly.
Every little alley in Nancheng was worth exploring. After finishing their meal, the two of them strolled along the roadside. Beside them, several young people on bicycles sped into a deep alley of plane trees.
Yu Weiwei turned back excitedly: “Sister, let’s go ride bicycles!”
A distinct radiance bloomed in her clear eyes.
Jiang Wu was taken aback for a moment.
“Ride bicycles?”
“Mmm-hmm,” Yu Weiwei nodded.
“Alright then, good girl.”
Yu Weiwei’s eyes curved into crescents as she laughed.
Thanks to modern technology, blue shared bikes were parked everywhere along the street. They each scanned one and began weaving aimlessly through the streets and alleys.
If they wanted to turn left, they turned left. If they wanted to go straight, they went straight. There was no correct path to take, only the desire to go, to reach, and so they went.
Summer hadn’t quite faded, and autumn was yet to arrive. The oncoming wind felt like a cool bubble. As it brushed past, the hems of their shirts and skirts puffed out.
Yu Weiwei laughed as she rode her bike.
She looked back.
“Sister, doesn’t this feel so relaxing and happy?”
“Yes.”
“In this moment, I feel like we are fully alive.” Yu Weiwei felt a bit embarrassed after saying it. She let go of the handlebar with one hand and made a grasping motion in the air, as if she could actually hold onto something.
Jiang Wu looked at the happy figure in her sight, her gaze exceptionally soft.
The bright sunlight occasionally filtered through the staggered leaves, melting into tiny spots of light within the thick shadows on the ground—wondrous and playful.
