A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 3
In the conference room, the tense atmosphere between the two sides was at a standstill.
This was the third negotiation of the week.
The incident of the Beta’s death after receiving the Galaxy Group’s Sex Differentiation Agent had been a hot topic for a week. The influence of the Galaxy Group was also proven during this week. Although most people were still in support of the company, some were disappointed by the Galaxy Group’s delay in resolving the issue.
“We sincerely hope that Galaxy Group can prioritize the greater good and hand over the formula to the expert team for re-examination. This is our only demand, and it is also the demand of the deceased’s family. Otherwise, Ruixing Hospital, in conjunction with a hundred other hospitals, will continue to press charges until your company is willing to admit its mistake,” the legal representative from Ruixing Hospital said sternly.
“Heh.”
A cold laugh rang out the moment he finished speaking.
The representatives from Ruixing Hospital frowned as they looked at Luo Panzhi sitting across from them. Unlike the first two times, when he wore a formal suit, he was now casually dressed in a shirt with the top two buttons undone.
He leaned back in his chair with his legs crossed, his hand resting on the armrest. He idly spun a pen between his fingers, his eyes looking at them with a detached contempt, as if they were dust or ants. He showed no intention of compromising on their demands.
Already young and arrogant, he now responded to their seriousness with a carefree and unrestrained attitude.
Gu Yuxi glanced at Luo Panzhi’s unbuttoned shirt. He knew this man had a fiery and unrestrained personality. What could be said had been said; whether he listened was another matter. He finally let out a faint sigh and calmly looked away, as if in a quiet compromise.
“I said, I can hand over the formula, but you must also hand over proof of your innocence. The Beta’s physical examination report before the injection of the agent, the agent’s sensitivity test records, and the 42-hour observation records after the injection—I’m not asking for an autopsy, as I respect the family’s wishes, but you can’t be missing a single one of the first three things,” Luo Panzhi said expressionlessly, looking at the legal representative of Ruixing Hospital. “Otherwise, I won’t take the blame.”
The legal representative seemed calm. After all, this had been the result of all three negotiations so far. This time was no different from what he expected. “Young CEO Luo, haven’t we already said this? Your company first hands over the agent formula for the expert team to re-examine, and we will naturally submit all the materials. As long as you cooperate, we can withdraw the lawsuit, and the family is also willing to accept mediation.”
“Withdraw the lawsuit?” Luo Panzhi was so angry he laughed. He reached out and patted the back of Gu Yuxi’s hand. “Lawyer Gu, please tell this lawyer what we’re going to do.”
The fire he had been holding in for a week was now fully ignited. They still had the nerve to talk about withdrawing the lawsuit and accepting mediation after creating such a mess?
They were clearly playing him.
Ruixing Hospital was not surprised that the Galaxy Group had brought a lawyer this time. However, none of them knew what kind of lawyer was sitting in front of them, or their expressions wouldn’t be as they were now.
“Hello everyone, I am the Galaxy Group’s lawyer, Gu Yuxi.”
The other representatives from Ruixing Hospital didn’t react, but the legal representative’s expression could only be described as terrified.
“You are… the chief lawyer of the Galaxy Group?” the legal representative from Ruixing Hospital asked with a sense of masochism.
Gu Yuxi’s face was calm as he nodded. “Yes.”
The Ruixing Hospital legal representative’s face turned ashen.
They had not even begun to fight, yet they had already brought in a great demon like Gu Yuxi. Everyone knew that over the past few years, Galaxy Group had never lost a single lawsuit he handled. Ever since Gu Yuxi appeared in the legal world, he had never lost a medical malpractice case he handled.
Especially the first social judicial appraisal confrontation case from two years ago, where two social judicial appraisal institutions’ findings were in direct conflict. His case was included in the case guidance, to be used to guide medical judgments across the country.
“The Beta’s physical examination report before the injection of the agent, the agent’s sensitivity test records, and the 42-hour observation records after the injection are all important evidence for medical liability appraisal. I believe you must have undergone an appraisal before you were so certain that the responsibility lies with Galaxy Group, correct?”
Perhaps it was because Gu Yuxi’s aura was too cool and dominant, or because he had hit a dead end, but no one from the Ruixing Hospital side responded.
Luo Panzhi glanced at Gu Yuxi.
“Since this case involves three parties—the medical institution Ruixing Hospital, the provider of the agent Galaxy Group, and the deceased’s family—and the case is controversial, the hospital should legally preserve any physical evidence from the scene that may have led to an adverse outcome for the patient, such as medicine and blood. While the autopsy has been delayed due to the family, the body can be preserved for up to seven days. There are still two days left. I believe I can speak with the family personally. Galaxy Group will definitely see that justice is served.”
“Galaxy Group has already sent all the Sex Differentiation Agent that was shipped to Ruixing Hospital to the relevant departments for inspection. The results showed no irregularities. This has nothing to do with the formula. Handing over the formula will not solve this case because the formula is not the key to the case.”
“The key is the hospital’s evidence and the autopsy,” Gu Yuxi’s voice suddenly grew cold. His eyes behind his wire-rimmed glasses turned frigid. The air of calm nobility from his suit combined with his powerful Alpha aura was an overwhelming oppressive force. “Are you hiding something because you’re guilty?”
“Or are you truly so noble that you are willing to sacrifice yourselves and bear the shame on behalf of the person behind you?”
“So, is the problem with the agent, with you, or with the deceased’s body? I think it must be one of them, right? Of course, I believe there’s no problem with the agent.” Gu Yuxi clasped his hands on the table and looked at them calmly. “After all, I am one of the beneficiaries of the Sex Differentiation Agent.”
Luo Panzhi’s eyes widened instantly. However, since there were others in the conference room, he quickly regained his composure, but his heart was already in turmoil.
‘What does he mean? Gu Yuxi has received the Sex Differentiation Agent?!’
‘An Alpha received the Sex Differentiation Agent?!’
‘No, did he become an Alpha after receiving the agent?’
‘Is Gu Yuxi a pseudo-Alpha?!’
‘Then what was his original gender? A Beta or an Omega?’
There was no doubt that with Gu Yuxi present, today’s negotiation was more professional, and his presence intimidated Ruixing Hospital’s prior judgment.
“Here is the clinical research report for the Galaxy Group’s Sex Differentiation Agent, as well as the reaction report for the upgraded formula that allows Omegas to inject the agent and be marked by Betas. This is the greatest sincerity that Galaxy Group can show. However, the formula is our patent and cannot be given out casually. It is also unrelated to this case. I hope Ruixing Hospital thinks carefully, or I will go all out.” Gu Yuxi pushed the documents in his hand toward the Ruixing Hospital representative.
The conference room fell into a brief silence.
In the end, Ruixing Hospital made a concession—the first one in three negotiations.
“We will provide the hospital’s evidence. As for the autopsy, we need to work with the patient’s family again. We hope to have substantial progress next time. We also hope that Galaxy Group, for the sake of the greater good, will hand over the Sex Differentiation Agent formula to give the patient’s family an explanation and to reassure the public.”
The Ruixing Hospital group left the conference room, led by the assistant.
This was the closest the Galaxy Group had come to their desired outcome in three negotiations. At least they were no longer on the defensive but had taken the initiative.
The conference room door slowly closed.
The two of them sat side-by-side, still in the same position, watching the door.
“Lawyer Gu, you’re pretty amazing. We’ve gone from being on the defensive to the offensive.”
“Just a steady performance.”
“Hey.” Luo Panzhi used his leg to bump against Gu Yuxi’s suit trousers. A smile appeared on his lips. He turned to look at the man beside him. “Lawyer Gu, why did you get the Sex Differentiation Agent?”
Gu Yuxi expressionlessly moved his leg away. “An accident.”
“What kind of accident?” Luo Panzhi moved his chair closer to Gu Yuxi. He saw that the man was still as aloof as he was during the negotiation. He tutted, then used his elbow to bump him, trying to get his attention. He leaned forward. “You’ve piqued my interest. If you don’t tell me, I won’t let you go.”
Gu Yuxi felt the warmth radiating from Luo Panzhi. He glanced at the arm that was pressed against him, and his gaze moved over Luo Panzhi’s improperly opened shirt collar. He discreetly forced himself to look away.
“I experienced a secondary differentiation.”
“Huh?” Luo Panzhi seemed to be hearing the term for the first time. He faced Gu Yuxi, his hand resting on the table to support his head. He sat in a relaxed and languid way, looking at the man. “What does that mean?”
His shirt was already worn improperly, and with his casual posture, the shoulder on the side where his hand was propped up hung low. The shirt seemed to be on the verge of slipping down, revealing his collarbone. Although his demeanor was casual, an Alpha’s hormones were subtly penetrating the fabric.
Without a doubt, this Alpha radiated a youthful and vibrant aura from the inside out, and even his Alpha pheromones were the same.
Though faint, he still caught a whiff of the scent.
It was Oolong Brandy, a slightly intoxicating tea fragrance.
Gu Yuxi lowered his head and adjusted his glasses, his palm covering the controlled emotions in his eyes. “The first time I differentiated, I was an Omega.”
Luo Panzhi shot up from his seat, and the chair behind him slid back a few feet from his movement. “What?!”
“Later, the orphanage was acquired by the Galaxy Group. The environment and conditions gradually improved, and my health also got better. Six months later, I showed signs of secondary differentiation, and it was finally confirmed that I was an Alpha. And because the inhibitor was ineffective at suppressing my overwhelming Alpha pheromones, I became a key subject of concern. I stayed at the Galaxy Research Institute for a while. During that time, CEO Chu and CEO Luo helped me adjust the excess Alpha pheromones. Finally, they came up with a solution: to inject me with the B.O. Sex Differentiation Agent to neutralize my Alpha pheromones.”
After his initial shock, Luo Panzhi slowly collected himself. “Ah, okay. What was I expecting?” he said, as if preparing to sit back down.
But in the next instant, Gu Yuxi grabbed his wrist. The force was so strong that he was pulled into the man’s arms without warning.
Luo Panzhi subconsciously used his knees to brace against the chair and quickly grabbed Gu Yuxi’s shoulders with both hands, steadying himself so he wouldn’t fall completely into his arms. He looked down and met Gu Yuxi’s eyes beneath his glasses.
Due to the close proximity, the air between them was filled with a tense and ambiguous silence.
“What are you doing?” Luo Panzhi broke the silence first.
“You pushed the chair away. You almost fell just now.” Gu Yuxi seemed to realize the predicament his reflexive action had caused, and a fleeting look of annoyance appeared in his eyes.
“Oh? Are you worried about me?” Luo Panzhi moved his knees, which were braced against the chair, a few inches inward. When he felt Gu Yuxi’s body suddenly tense up upon contact, he stopped. He leaned in, his hands on Gu Yuxi’s shoulders, with a playful look in his eyes. “How lucky is it to find a like-minded partner? And to be cared for and loved by that partner, that’s even better, isn’t it, Lawyer Gu?”
They were very close now—so close that if Gu Yuxi lifted his head, he could kiss him.
Luo Panzhi had expected Gu Yuxi to flinch, but to his surprise, Gu Yuxi lifted his head.
He precisely avoided his lips, his cool, soft mouth brushing against Luo Panzhi’s chin. It seemed like an accident, but it also seemed intentional. The touch was light, but it made a loud sound in Luo Panzhi’s heart.
“It is my honor to be a like-minded partner to Young CEO Luo,” Gu Yuxi’s voice was cool, his warm breath falling on Luo Panzhi’s chin. Though it was only on his chin, it felt like a wildfire spreading, burning everything in its path and making his heart flutter.
Luo Panzhi turned his head and laughed.
