A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 1
“Rejection reaction? The Sex Differentiation Agent project has already reached a completely mature technology at Galaxy Group. For over twenty years, the success rate for Betas who received the agent to differentiate into pseudo-alpha pheromones has been 99.99%. At most, it would cause a delayed differentiation. How could there be a fatal rejection reaction this severe?!”
In the Galaxy Group’s high-level conference room, all the department managers watched as their young CEO, Luo, went into a fit of rage. His overly domineering Alpha aura forced everyone to lower their heads silently, not daring to even breathe, for fear that any sound would further enrage him.
Luo Panzhi expressionlessly threw the lawsuit documents back onto the table. A few pages fluttered to the floor, but he paid them no mind. He walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, irritably rubbed the back of his head, and rested one hand on his hip.
Perhaps feeling that the suit was constricting his chest, he impatiently unbuttoned the top button. The slightly open collar of his shirt revealed his neck and collarbone. A top-tier Alpha’s hormones, accompanied by his domineering pheromones, filled the conference room.
Even with the injection of an inhibitor, for some superior genetic A.B.O. individuals, even a faint trace of pheromones could cause an uncomfortable sense of oppression.
“Young CEO Luo, Ruixing Hospital is now suing our Galaxy Group for providing a substandard agent, citing the 0.01% fatal rejection reaction,” said Xu Wen, the CEO’s assistant, looking at Luo Panzhi in front of the window. “A tall tree catches the wind. This morning, a hundred hospitals have already collectively requested that we provide the Sex Differentiation Agent formula for their inspection, otherwise, they will suspend their partnership with Galaxy Group.”
“Suspend their partnership with Galaxy Group?” Luo Panzhi lowered his hand. A cold smirk appeared on his face as he slowly turned to look at the dozen or so department managers at the conference table. His expression was one of nonchalance, yet it was filled with mockery. “Do they dare?”
His unspoken words were: “Only an idiot would give up a priceless partnership with the world’s top medical equipment supplier and pharmaceutical research institute.”
Countless hospitals would kill to get a non-exclusive partnership with the Galaxy Group.
The market department manager hesitated before speaking, “But Young CEO Luo, it’s precisely because of Galaxy Group’s status that this matter is becoming so serious. The major media outlets are all hoping we’ll give an explanation—whether it’s the Sex Differentiation Agent or some other reason. The lawsuit has already been delivered. We have to give the public an explanation for this matter, or we will betray the trust they have in us.”
“More and more public opinion is spreading online now. You know how easily people on the internet, who don’t know the truth, can be misled. In the end, it might actually turn into a rumor that Galaxy Group’s Sex Differentiation Agent has a very high risk of rejection, which would overturn everything from before and even implicate other research projects.”
Assistant Xu Wen nodded. “Yes, Young CEO Luo. Galaxy Group and Galaxy Research Institute are the life’s work of CEO Chu and CEO Luo. We absolutely cannot let this incident tarnish the reputation of Galaxy Group.”
“I have already instructed the medical warehouse that shipped the agent to Ruixing Hospital to retrieve that batch of medicine. The relevant departments will likely ask us to provide it within the next day or two. The best approach for us is to follow the standard procedure and stabilize the company’s operations first, so we don’t let the matter escalate further.”
Luo Panzhi silently looked at everyone. Their few words had caused a gloomy, suffocating feeling to well up in his chest, violently crashing around and unrelieved. A sense of powerlessness was consuming his rational judgment, making his head buzz.
Two years ago, his fathers had entrusted him with the great responsibility of managing Galaxy Group and had placed their life’s work in his hands.
As before, he was the one with the highest hopes among the three children, receiving a strict education from his fathers. He followed every step of their path.
Of course, it was his own choice. His older brother, Chu Guzhi, was an Omega, and he naturally wanted to protect his brother and not let him get as tired as his father, Chu Yiqiao. His younger sister, Luo Yuchu, although an Alpha, was not very stable, and now she was unable to worry about him because of her husband’s pregnancy.
With such a large company, he would often wake up in the middle of the night because the heavy burden made it hard to breathe. Also, because of his bad temper and high pressure, his pheromones were unstable, and he didn’t have an Omega partner to help him through his estrus period, which resulted in him not being focused enough in his work.
Now, such a medical incident had happened in his hands. They even wanted him to hand over the formula for the Sex Differentiation Agent. Could he hand over his fathers’ life’s work?
That was absolutely impossible.
He would never believe it was a problem with the formula. He could stake his life on the safety of the medicine produced by Galaxy Group.
So where did the problem occur?
Knock, knock, knock—
Luo Panzhi heard the sound and looked up at the knocking on the conference room door, his brow slightly furrowed.
“Young CEO Luo, it’s me, Yuan Nian.”
Luo Panzhi was momentarily stunned. ‘Why is Uncle Yuan here? He used to be my father’s chief secretary. Now he’s in charge of overseas affairs. Why is he here so suddenly?’
‘Could it be that his two fathers abroad have found out about this matter?!’
The conference room door was slowly pushed open. Everyone’s gaze fell on the doorway, followed by gasps of amazement.
Beside Yuan Nian at the door stood a man they had never seen before.
The man was tall and slender, wearing a crisply ironed black suit and wire-rimmed glasses. He exuded a cool, reserved professionalism. Yet, because he was so handsome, this professionalism was full of a contradictory, ascetic appeal.
Luo Panzhi’s eyes flickered, showing a look of astonishment.
This was a remarkably handsome man.
Yuan Nian, nearing fifty, was still the chief secretary of Galaxy Group. He looked travel-worn, as if he had just rushed back from abroad with an assistant.
Yuan Nian looked at the slightly fatigued Luo Panzhi in the conference room. He seemed to sense the volatile pheromones of the top-tier Alpha filling the space. He smiled reassuringly:
“Young CEO Luo, look who I’ve brought you. This is the chief lawyer of Galaxy Group. Your fathers asked me to bring him back. He will surely help you get through this difficult time.”
He then gestured for the man beside him to step forward and say hello.
Luo Panzhi had no idea who this handsome man was. He thought to himself, ‘If I had met him earlier, I wouldn’t be the lonely person in the center of our family photos every year. If I’m still single when my nephews and nieces grow up, I might even be the lonely one in the children’s photos.’
He also thought that his dad was truly ungrateful for not introducing him to such a handsome man.
Then he watched as the handsome man, full of cool professionalism and a reserved demeanor, walked up to him and extended a hand that looked like a work of art.
“Hello, Mr. Luo. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Gu Yuxi.”
The man’s clear, slightly cool voice entered his ears, and his elegant, humble manner came into view, as if repairing Luo Panzhi’s sanity that was on the verge of collapse. It was like a gentle, silent rain. Luo Panzhi felt he had found a temporary visual and spiritual comfort.
Luo Panzhi shook the man’s hand and smiled, “Do you have a partner, Lawyer Gu?”
The hand was a little cold, perfect for putting into his arms to warm it up.
Gu Yuxi tried to pull his hand away, but couldn’t. Due to the other man’s status, he could only answer, “Yes, I do.”
Luo Panzhi let out an “ah” and said, “What a shame.”
Yuan Nian, who was standing to the side, couldn’t hold it in. He reminded him, “Youpan, Gu is an Alpha.”
He didn’t even remember that he had accidentally called Luo Panzhi by his nickname. He was just afraid that the guy’s wolf-like gaze would scare the lawyer away.
Luo Panzhi saw Gu Yuxi’s expression change slightly. ‘What? Such a handsome man is an Alpha?!’ It was unbelievable. He was so good-looking that Luo Panzhi didn’t even have time to distinguish the man’s pheromones.
But just as he was annoyed at himself for being a ‘face dog,’ he caught a whiff of Gu Yuxi’s Alpha aura. The resistance that had risen within him suddenly dissipated, and his eyes grew hazy.
Alphas are supposed to be mutually exclusive, yet this man’s scent was not repulsive as he had imagined.
Instead, it was the alluring scent of a Juliet rose, which was astonishing and elegant, light yet passionate, like a beautiful, noble princess in a gorgeous dress, waiting for her prince charming.
‘How can an Alpha’s scent be so… alluring?’
‘Is it normal to be so easily affected by an Alpha just because I’ve been single for too long?’
“Ahem, Young CEO Luo.” Yuan Nian, seeing that Luo Panzhi’s gaze was getting more and more inappropriate, lightly cleared his throat to remind him to be more discreet. “Lawyer Gu is the chief lawyer of the Galaxy Group. He has always handled legal affairs for us, and he has never lost a single case. CEO Chu and CEO Luo sent him back this time because they heard about the company’s situation. If you can’t handle it even with Lawyer Gu’s help, CEO Chu said he will take away your CEO position and have you work as a security guard at the medical warehouse.”
Gu Yuxi wanted to pull his hand away again, but Luo Panzhi still didn’t let go.
He looked up at Luo Panzhi, and his gaze met a deep, smiling one, making him feel as if he were a trapped bird with no way of escape.
He lowered his eyelids, hiding the smile that was spreading in his eyes.
It was exactly as he wished.
Luo Panzhi finally let go of the man’s hand. “This matter is quite tricky. I need Lawyer Gu by my side at all times so that I can—so that I can better understand the whole situation. There’s an empty office next to mine. You can work there starting today.”
Yuan Nian: “???” ‘The office next to him?’
‘That’s the office where CEO Chu put up a one-way mirror wall to supervise Luo when he was doing his homework. The room on that side can see the full view of Luo Panzhi’s office, but Luo Panzhi can’t see anything from his side.’
“Okay.” Gu Yuxi nodded.
Luo Panzhi smiled brightly. “Then, please leave me your contact information, Lawyer Gu, so I can get in touch with you easily.”
“Okay.” Gu Yuxi nodded.
Luo Panzhi looked at the handsome lawyer in front of him, and his previous frustrated mood completely vanished. He felt that this matter would definitely be resolved smoothly.
Because now,
he was full of energy.
Then he saw Gu Yuxi bend down to pick up a paper that had fallen by his feet. Because of the close distance, his hand brushed against Luo Panzhi’s trousers as he stood up, seemingly by accident.
Luo Panzhi’s eyes darkened.
“You should take good care of the lawsuit documents,” Gu Yuxi said as he stood up, handing the papers back to Luo Panzhi.
Luo Panzhi smiled as he took the papers, looking at the cool and composed Gu Yuxi. “If Lawyer Gu says so, then I’ll definitely listen.”
