- Chapter 3 - This Doctor is More Like a King of Hell Than a Bodhisattv
“Captain, please punish me, it’s my fault… I really shouldn’t have let my guard down,” Wang Deng stammered, his voice filled with a sob. “I was just sitting in the room, and after waiting for a long time and seeing you hadn’t come out of the operating room, I got really worried and went to check on you.”
“But I couldn’t get into the operating room, and couldn’t see anything, so I had to run back. Who knew that in that short time, the man would just disappear.”
Lu Xiao leaned his head out the window, looking for any sign of him. There was no trace. His arm immediately bulged with veins, and he slammed his fist into the white wall next to him.
A short-distance running champion, running that fast?
“Stop your damn nonsense and get down there and chase him!”
The man was shot in the abdomen and had lost a lot of blood, and he had just undergone an emergency operation. Whether he ran on his own or someone came to save him, as long as he hadn’t gotten into a car yet, he couldn’t have gone far.
Before he finished speaking, a cry for help echoed from the end of the hallway.
The sound of shattering glass mixed with the shouts and screams of medical staff. Lu Xiao immediately pulled out his pistol and charged down the hallway.
He saw a tall, masked man holding a handgun, threatening the medical staff who were crouching on the ground, trembling.
“Where is he?” The man’s low voice sounded sinister and cold.
That bastard is still in the hospital! Lu Xiao immediately understood. This masked man was probably not here to save someone, but to silence them.
Lu Xiao gave Wang Deng a meaningful look, and Wang Deng immediately got the message. Wang Deng pretended to tremble, pointing toward the intensive care unit behind him…
The masked man sneered. Ignoring the medical staff behind him, he held his gun and stepped closer to Lu Xiao’s position. The gun’s body was already gleaming with a cold light.
With their eyes fixed on each other, both men were wary, not daring to relax for a second, each looking for an opportunity to break through the other’s defenses. At that critical moment, a sudden bang was heard. The gun in the masked man’s hand clattered to the ground, followed by a large orthopedic surgical hammer.
A white figure entered Lu Xiao’s line of sight: it was Dr. Shen!
The masked man froze for a second but didn’t dare to bend down to pick up his gun. He immediately drew a knife and prepared to strike at Lu Xiao, but a cold breath sounded in his ear.
“Don’t move.”
A surgical scalpel was already pressed against his throat! Shen Zhao spoke slowly. He held the knife handle with one hand, pressing it against the masked man’s artery, and with the other hand, he held the masked man in a chokehold from front to back.
The sharp blade against his neck made the masked man’s hairs stand on end, forcing him to remain completely still.
“Game over.” Shen Zhao sneered.
The masked man saw the corner of the person’s clothes behind him and judged that it was a doctor. He calmed down and tried to struggle, but found he couldn’t break free at all.
“Behave. This knife of mine doesn’t only save people.”
Just as he finished speaking, the man felt a heavy kick to his waist from behind, and he stumbled forward.
“He’s all yours.” Shen Zhao carefully put away his surgical scalpel. The next second, he saw Lu Xiao and the masked man grappling.
Lu Xiao landed a heavy punch to the man’s jaw. The muffled groans of pain and the sound of fists and feet connecting echoed in the intensive care unit.
Shen Zhao noticed that the right sleeve of his white coat seemed to have a little of the masked man’s blood on it. He impatiently took off the coat, draped it over his wrist, led a few of his colleagues to a safe place, and had them lock the door. He then stepped aside and watched the two men wrestle.
They held each other tightly and rolled on the ground. The man’s brown face mask was long gone, and the face with a deep scar looked increasingly vicious to Lu Xiao.
Lu Xiao’s hands were pressed down on the man’s throat, but he felt that his left hand had no strength.
Why hasn’t the anesthetic worn off yet!
Lu Xiao could only use his thigh to tightly clamp down on the scar-faced man’s frantically flailing hands. He was straddling the man, but was suddenly kneed by the man beneath him. Since the left side of his body had no strength, his center of gravity was thrown off, and the man immediately flipped over and pinned Lu Xiao down, pressing his own knife to Lu Xiao’s throat.
The scar-faced man didn’t immediately kill him. Instead, he used the tip of the knife to tap Lu Xiao’s neck, threatening, “Hand over the man, and I’ll let you live.”
But Lu Xiao’s gaze was as sharp as an eagle’s. Seeing that Lu Xiao was not giving up the suspect, the scar-faced man tightened his grip on the dagger and was about to deliver a fatal blow. With a whoosh, the dagger flew past Lu Xiao’s right cheek, the blade already leaving a wound on his jaw that was beading with blood.
Before Lu Xiao could react, the scar-faced man brought the dagger down again, each thrust ruthless and aimed at a vital spot. Lu Xiao struggled desperately to avoid the blade, constantly trying to lift the pistol in his right hand. But his right palm was pinned down by the man’s knee, and his left hand was completely useless!
In the stalemate, the scar-faced man was clearly gaining the upper hand, and he seized the opportunity to stab fiercely at Lu Xiao’s chest.
At the very last second! Lu Xiao used his left arm to block the blow, tightly gripping the man’s wrist with one hand. Lu Xiao then used a powerful reverse elbow strike to the man’s head. Seizing the moment, he flipped himself over and aimed his gun at the man beneath him.
“Drop the knife! Throw it far away!” Lu Xiao shouted.
The scar-faced man, crouching, hugged his head and looked at Lu Xiao suspiciously, then threw the dagger far away.
He knelt on the floor in front of Lu Xiao, looking as if he were ready to be slaughtered. But just as Lu Xiao leaned down to handcuff him, a cold gleam flashed before his eyes. He felt a sharp pain in his calf.
The scar-faced man had pulled a small dagger from his boot and stabbed him fiercely in the leg! He seized the opportunity to lunge for the wide-open window next to them and jumped out of the first-floor window.
Lu Xiao’s first instinct was to chase him, but a straight steel ruler was held across his path, blocking him.
Shen Zhao shook his head. “In your current physical state, going after him would be suicide.”
Lu Xiao’s fury was boiling. He was like a mad, hungry wolf. He tried to push Shen Zhao away, but he didn’t know where the slender doctor got so much strength. Shen Zhao kicked him, sending him flying onto a bed in the ICU.
Lu Xiao was about to open his mouth to curse, but was met with a fierce glare from Shen Zhao.
“I know where that guy on the hospital bed is. If you don’t want to lose him, then shut up.”
Lu Xiao felt his anger wasn’t extinguished, but stomped into dust. Director Gao said he had a “mischievous aura,” what a joke! Director Gao must have never met this Dr. Shen!
“Xiao Zhang, go bandage up this reckless officer who is covered in cuts and bruises.”
Lu Xiao felt humiliated but couldn’t argue, so he obediently let the nurse lead him away. Before he left, he suddenly remembered something and, with a brazen look, asked: “Is Dr. Shen not going to bandage me…?”
Shen Zhao looked at him with a puzzled expression, his brows furrowed as he gave him a sidelong glance.
“Never mind, never mind, I’ll go get bandaged now.”
Lu Xiao laughed nervously as he backed out of the room, afraid that Shen Zhao’s surgical knife might accidentally slip and cut him.
Lu Xiao thought to himself: This doctor is so good-looking, so why is he even angrier than I am.
