Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 41.2
She fell silent for a while, then changed tack. “Can you at least tell me what really happened with the original host’s mothers?”
Uncle Li looked at her with compassion. “Don’t you already have a theory?”
Sui Yu’s face dimmed. So it was true—they had awakened, but couldn’t accept the reality. That was why they chose death.
Shen Jueshu gently placed her hand on top of Sui Yu’s, offering silent comfort.
Sui Yu turned her head toward her, then looked away, her voice tight. “Why did all this misfortune have to fall on the original host’s family?”
That woman had said awakenings were rare. So why had so many members of the Sui family awakened? Or… were there more awakened individuals out there who had simply hidden it so well that even the woman’s organization hadn’t detected them?
Uncle Li watched her conflicted expression and, after a long pause, said, “Because… you were a family of villains.”
In the author’s setting, the entire family had been written as antagonists.
Sui Yu: “…”
She tugged at the corners of her lips, as if trying to laugh—but the laugh never came. Finally, she muttered, “That author must’ve really hated them. Not just one villain—an entire nest of them.”
A whole family of antagonists… that was a first for her.
Uncle Li didn’t reply. He simply let out another sigh and fell silent.
Shen Jueshu gently stroked the back of Sui Yu’s hand. “You should feel happy for them. At least… they’re free now.”
When she heard “a family of villains,” she finally understood the subtle wrongness she’d felt when reading the Sui family files. There must’ve been things they’d done that didn’t match their true personalities—actions twisted by the demands of the plot.
Sui Yu nodded slowly. She truly pitied the original family. From everything she’d dug up, their nature had seemed gentle and kind. But under the weight of the plot, they had been forced to do things completely against their nature.
Maybe that was what led to their awakening—struggling under the weight of contradiction and pain until they broke free.
“Can you tell us more about those people who are trying to correct the plot?” Sui Yu asked again.
Uncle Li hesitated, but seeing the determined look in both their eyes, he finally said softly, “They’re part of the Plot Maintenance Bureau.”
“Since the appearance of novels, naturally there would also be organizations formed to maintain the integrity of the plot, to make sure it isn’t arbitrarily changed.”
“There are two kinds of Plot Maintenance members. One group operates from the real world. The others are embedded into each book as background characters—extras given a mission. When they detect deviations, they’re tasked with guiding the story back on track.”
Sui Yu and Shen Jueshu exchanged glances—surprised that the organization operated both in reality and within the books themselves.
“What about you, Uncle Li? What’s your role—if you can say?” Sui Yu asked.
Uncle Li shook his head. “Unless it’s absolutely necessary, we’re not allowed to reveal our identities.”
Just like that, they’d hit another wall.
“The original host told us you could be trusted. So we just want to confirm—you’re not working against us, right? You’re not one of those trying to reset the plot?”
Uncle Li gave a rare, gentle smile. “You don’t need to test me. We would never take action against those with awakened consciousness. Now that you’re self-aware, you have the right to live by that awareness.”
At those words, Sui Yu and Shen Jueshu’s tightly clasped hands relaxed ever so slightly. At least… he wasn’t another enemy.
As they left the estate, Sui Yu glanced back at Uncle Li, who stood at the doorway seeing them off. She asked softly, “What kind of person chooses to stay with the Sui family all this time?”
Especially when no one from the family had lived here in so long, and yet he never left.
Shen Jueshu didn’t answer—she didn’t know either.
After they returned home, neither of them was in a good mood. They went their separate ways to rest. It wasn’t until the next morning, on their way to work, that they ran into each other again.
As always, Shen Jueshu rode in Sui Yu’s car. Just as Sui Yu was about to play her usual act of indifference while getting out, Shen Jueshu grabbed her arm.
“Act normal. Stop pretending to be annoyed with me all the time,” Shen Jueshu said. She was tired of the cold front Sui Yu put up. Tired of the speculation and gossip that their relationship was falling apart.
Sui Yu paused, then turned to her and said, “Isn’t this working out fine? I feel like if we announced our divorce now, no one would be surprised. They’d probably be relieved.”
Shen Jueshu’s expression instantly darkened. Every time she heard the word “divorce” from Sui Yu’s mouth, it ignited a fury inside her. For a moment, she wanted nothing more than to silence her—just to stop hearing those words.
She shut her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to suppress the violent impulse. Then she said coldly, “We agreed—one year.”
Sui Yu scratched her head. “But isn’t this the perfect opportunity? Why drag it out? People might start thinking there’s still hope for us.”
The marriage hadn’t been her choice. Now that there was a clean exit, why wasn’t this woman taking it?
The more she spoke, the colder Shen Jueshu’s expression became. She yanked her hand away and snapped, “One year means one year! When have I ever gone back on my word?”
With that, she got out of the car and slammed the door so hard the whole vehicle shook.
Seeing that Shen Jueshu was truly angry this time, Sui Yu quickly got out of the car and caught up to her, confused. “Why are you so upset? Do you have something else you need to do?”
Being chased like that, Shen Jueshu suddenly stopped and turned around. Sui Yu, caught off guard, also came to an abrupt halt—her face full of bewilderment.
Shen Jueshu gritted her teeth slightly. “Tell me honestly—were you just stupid in your last life?”
Sui Yu blinked. “…Did you seriously just insult me?”
Shen Jueshu couldn’t be bothered to explain and simply walked off again. If she stayed another minute with Sui Yu, she feared she’d really lose control and say or do something she’d regret.
Watching her leave, Sui Yu’s mind filled with question marks. What was that about? Was Shen Jueshu always this moody? Everything she’d said earlier was completely logical—what exactly had upset her?
Unable to make sense of it, she decided it was better to steer clear of Shen Jueshu’s wrath for now. She spent the entire day buried in the lab, working herself into a fog.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Shen Jueshu had expected Sui Yu to come find her for lunch. But as the lunch hour slipped by with no sign of her, Shen Jueshu’s face grew even darker.
Does she really want to divorce me that badly?
She could feel how much Sui Yu cared for her—so why hadn’t that affection turned into something deeper?
As a top-tier Omega who had always been admired, Shen Jueshu couldn’t help but start doubting her own charm. Had she made such a terrible impression in the past that no matter how much she changed, Sui Yu still couldn’t see her differently?
For once, the confident Omega fell into a spiral of self-doubt. Even during work, her mind would wander. When she snapped out of it, she was hit by frustration again.
She’d once believed that emotions were useless, and hated when others brought personal feelings into work. Yet now, she had become the very person she used to despise.
Forcing herself to refocus, she threw all her mental clutter aside. Even without love, she thought, I’m not going to let my career fall apart.
Though she didn’t think Sui Yu could escape her in the end.
Sui Yu, completely unaware of Shen Jueshu’s inner turmoil, stared at her lab results and finally decided to call it a day. She wasn’t in the right mindset for research—her focus kept drifting, and she kept making calculation errors.
“Boss, are you alright?” one of her team members asked, clearly concerned after watching her zone out multiple times that day.
“I’m fine. You guys keep working. I’m just going to rest for a bit. Actually, you should take a break too—don’t end up frying your brains like I did,” she muttered, shaking her head at herself.
Everyone else: “…”
Sui Yu went to the break room and brewed herself a cup of tea, cradling it in her hands. Her mind, however, was full of thoughts about Shen Jueshu.
