Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 40.3
Sui Yu was stunned by her words, then quickly felt a wave of heartache. This world was so unfair. To break free from the constraints of its setup, one had to work a hundred times harder than others.
Seeing Sui Yu’s pained expression, Shen Jueshu felt a ripple of joy in her chest—it meant she cared. But she didn’t want to see her frowning. She liked that silly little smile of hers. So she said lightly, “You don’t have to worry. Now that you’ve marked me, I carry your pheromone. That alone will shield me significantly from others’ influence.”
After all, Sui Yu’s top-tier Alpha pheromones were no joke. There was no way anyone else could provoke her so easily.
However, Sui Yu didn’t look pleased by her words. She sighed. “But it won’t be long before we have to remove the mark.”
Without it, she’d lose a layer of protection. But keeping it meant staying in this ambiguous relationship indefinitely—and that clearly wasn’t a sustainable path.
Shen Jueshu’s body tensed. Seeing how Sui Yu had nothing but a sigh to offer, she suddenly felt a knot forming in her chest, both hot and suffocating. Her fists clenched at her sides, her expression tight.
Was she that eager to be rid of her?
“…Can we not remove it?” she asked through gritted teeth.
“Not remove it?” Sui Yu’s eyes widened in shock. She looked at Shen Jueshu in disbelief and immediately shook her head. “No, absolutely not! We can’t live like this forever!”
Right now, it was fine—they were both unattached. But what about in the future? What if one of them met someone they truly liked? Who could accept such a bizarre arrangement?
“It has to be removed. If it’s not, our… intimacy with others might not work out so well…” Sui Yu lowered her head, fidgeting with her hands, her voice small and awkward. “They say dual markings make you only react to each other’s pheromones. If we’re with someone else, it just… won’t feel the same.”
Wouldn’t not washing the mark just be way too tragic? Going your whole life without experiencing that kind of ultimate pleasure…
The more Shen Jueshu listened, the colder her expression became. This woman was already thinking about that? Worried that being with others wouldn’t be as pleasurable?
At that moment, a wave of suffocating emotion crashed over her like a tidal surge. Looking at Sui Yu’s bashful, lowered face, a dark and obsessive thought suddenly rose in Shen Jueshu’s chest—
To lock her away. To imprison her in a cage built entirely by her, so she could never escape.
But in the very next second, she recoiled from her own madness. A chill swept through her—how could Sui Yu possibly accept this twisted and controlling version of her?
She remembered what Sui Yu had once said: she’d rather be killed than be imprisoned.
That memory crushed her, made her breath catch. She was utterly powerless against Sui Yu.
Suddenly, Sui Yu looked up at her, confused. The shyness had vanished. “What’s wrong with you? Why did your pheromone levels just spike like that?”
It was as if something had exploded—like a small avalanche had just crashed down in front of her.
Shen Jueshu stared at the clueless Sui Yu, and for the first time in her life, she felt this kind of rage—furious at Sui Yu’s obliviousness, and even more furious at her own helplessness.
If she had any other choice, she didn’t want to resort to hurting her just to keep her by her side.
But when Shen Jueshu didn’t answer, only kept staring, a shiver ran down Sui Yu’s spine. She’s not planning something terrible again, is she? That thought made her slowly back away, a sheepish smile on her face. “Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now. Still got tons of work to do.”
Before Shen Jueshu could respond, Sui Yu turned and bolted from the room.
Shen Jueshu clenched her fists tightly as she watched her retreating back. The fire in her chest only burned hotter.
Meanwhile, Sui Yu finally relaxed a little after fleeing Shen Jueshu’s office. Thinking back on her expression, she couldn’t help but shudder—seriously, she’d looked like she was about to eat someone alive.
Back in her office, Sui Yu held a hand to her chest, silently mourning for Shen Jueshu’s so-called “fated Alpha.” She couldn’t shake the feeling that this version of Shen Jueshu was even harder to deal with than the one in the later chapters of the book. With that kind of aura, even a fated Alpha would probably shrink into a quail in front of her—what a pitiful image.
Sui Yu shook her head. Between Shen Jueshu’s overpowering presence and calculated mind, that poor Alpha was going to be thoroughly dominated.
And yet… why was she suddenly feeling sour about it?
She pressed a hand over her chest, frowning deeply. Was her empathy really this strong? Just thinking about that Alpha’s future heartbreak was already making her sad?
Before she could figure it out, a knock on the door startled her, making her jump in her seat.
“Come in.” She took a deep breath, composing herself and trying to sound casual.
Qin Qing walked in and said respectfully, “President Sui, President Shen asked me to assist you with the work handover.”
The moment she heard the words “work handover,” Sui Yu perked up. That meant she was finally about to return to her beloved research!
“Is the handover even necessary at this point?” she mumbled under her breath. After all, she barely understood anything about management. She couldn’t even fully make sense of financial reports. Most of the company’s operations had been handled by Shen Jueshu and Qin Qing anyway.
“We still need to go through the motions,” Qin Qing replied with a polite smile, clearly having overheard.
Sui Yu felt a bit embarrassed but went along with it anyway. After finishing the formalities, she felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders. She didn’t even want to linger in the office—she headed straight up to the lab.
Her time at the company had made one thing painfully clear: she wasn’t cut out for private-sector management. She was much more suited to working with materials, conducting experiments, and researching how they interacted.
When she arrived at the lab, the others were already hard at work. They’d collected samples of every commercially available suppressant, analyzed their components, and were now trying to find a better formulation—one that could be combined into a more effective and safer suppressant.
“Boss, here are the results from our survey on suppressant use among Alphas and Omegas aged 18 to 25,” Xia Ju reported, handing her the data. “Tongye Technologies’ product is the most favored overall—fast-acting and with relatively minimal side effects.”
“Tongye Technologies… I know them,” Sui Yu said, remembering the logo printed on the suppressant bottle Shen Jueshu used. It had the words “Tongye Technologies” written right underneath.
She asked Xia Ju to continue working, then found a quiet spot to sit and read through the report.
Tongye’s suppressants mainly contained nitro-stabilizers with sedative and hypnotic effects, which explained their fast results.
But the downside was that users often became extremely drowsy afterward. Their neural responses would slow down significantly and take time to recover.
Even so, compared to other products on the market, it was still among the best.
After reading through the report, Sui Yu flipped through the suppressant data from other companies as well. Looking at the ingredients and their ratios, she couldn’t shake the feeling that—since this was an ABO world—the suppressants, which were essential for AOs to function, shouldn’t have such significant side effects.
There had to be some balance point they hadn’t yet discovered.
But what exactly was that balance point?
Sui Yu bit her lower lip, deep in thought. She actually believed Tongye’s approach was on the right track—it just needed something to counteract the side effects of nitro-stabilizers.
Everyone in the lab was absorbed in their work. In their pursuit of the ideal suppressant formula, they pushed forward with tireless effort. Looking at Xia Ju and the other three researchers, Sui Yu suddenly felt inspired. It was as if she’d been injected with pure adrenaline. After thoroughly disinfecting herself, she joined them, logging data and diving into analysis in search of any potential breakthrough.
The downside of working in such a fervent state was that she completely lost track of time. When Shen Jueshu finally showed up outside the lab, Sui Yu glanced at the clock—and only then realized it was already 11 p.m.
Shen Jueshu stood outside, watching the team through the glass. Her expression was complicated as she remarked, “You all really enjoy working overtime this much?”
Everyone in the lab froze at the sudden voice. Their hands stopped moving, and they looked at her, stunned. Finally, Xia Ju broke the silence, asking, “President Shen, how did you get in?”
Their lab’s security wasn’t that easy to bypass… right?
Sui Yu cleared her throat and muttered, “Have you all lost your minds from too much experimentation? She’s my wife. She built this lab from the ground up. Of course she has access.”
“Ohhh,” the others chorused, nodding in unison.
Sui Yu: “…”
She clapped her hands and announced, “Alright, everyone head home and get some rest. You can come in later tomorrow.”
After packing up her things and disinfecting again, Sui Yu changed into her clothes and walked over to Shen Jueshu. “Why are you still here so late?”
Shen Jueshu responded coolly, “I came to check if someone’s stomach still knew how to feel hungry.” But what she was actually thinking about was the sight of Sui Yu earlier—her focused expression while recording data, the way her lips were pressed together, the faint furrow of her brow. All of it… oddly seductive.
At her words, Sui Yu looked down at her belly—and only then noticed the growling emptiness. She scratched her cheek awkwardly. “I guess I am hungry…”
“Let’s go. I haven’t eaten either,” Shen Jueshu replied, already turning to leave.
“Huh? So you’re taking me out for a late-night snack?” Sui Yu immediately lit up, quickening her pace to walk beside her, grinning like a kid.
Shen Jueshu glanced sideways at her smug little face. It’s just supper—why is she this happy?
Her frustration from earlier in the day had long faded. After the work handover, she had expected Sui Yu to come find her. But the entire afternoon passed with no sign of her, not even a message. Shen Jueshu even stayed late, working three extra hours, and still—nothing.
Truthfully, even though she knew they weren’t that kind of couple, it still bothered her. After a long day, it wouldn’t have killed Sui Yu to show a little concern. If Qin Qing hadn’t mentioned she saw Sui Yu go upstairs, Shen Jueshu wouldn’t have known she’d buried herself in the lab.
Knowing the truth made her both angry and helpless. She hadn’t expected Sui Yu to rush right back into research right after the handover. And so, Shen Jueshu had stayed late at the office while quietly waiting. But when the clock hit 11 with no sign of movement, she finally came up to find her.
“Next time, set an alarm when you work. Don’t stay this late again,” Shen Jueshu said.
“Huh?” Sui Yu looked at her like she’d just heard something from another planet. “You’re telling me not to overwork? You?”
“…Was I not clear enough?”
“Crystal clear!” Sui Yu’s voice rose, then she shook her head in disbelief. “Just look at yourself. You know working too much is bad for your health, and yet you still do it.”
She started lecturing her in earnest. “You’re still young—what if you ruin your body from overworking? Even if you end up with a partner, wouldn’t it be heartbreaking if you’re too sick to enjoy life together?”
Shen Jueshu’s lips curled into a sly smile. “In that case, we should both get off work on time and exercise. Wouldn’t want either of us falling apart.”
“…Huh?” Sui Yu’s expression instantly collapsed. “Exercise? You might as well leave me single forever.”
She’d rather live alone than work out. Exercise was just too exhausting!
Shen Jueshu suddenly stopped walking, turned to face her, and without warning, tugged Sui Yu’s shirt hem out of her pants. Her hand slipped underneath and landed on her belly, confirming her suspicion—soft and squishy.
“The original Sui Yu had great fitness habits. How long has it been? You’ve already lost her abs.”
Sui Yu froze, stunned by the unexpected touch. Then came the jab: “…”
She had no comeback.
Without missing a beat, Shen Jueshu tucked her shirt back in and smoothed out the creases. “With a belly like this, how can you not exercise?”
Honestly, the soft squish felt kind of nice to touch.
Sui Yu: “…” She just got body-shamed!
“I look slim in clothes—no one can tell,” Sui Yu mumbled defensively. She’d always been one of those people who looked thin dressed, but secretly had no abs—just soft pudge.
Shen Jueshu gave her a sidelong glance. “That may be true. But eventually, you’ll have to undress in front of someone.”
Sui Yu: “…”
Unable to win the verbal battle, she hurried ahead. But when she got to the elevator, she had to pause and hold the doors open for the woman who always walked at a leisurely pace.
Once Shen Jueshu stepped in, Sui Yu pressed the close-door button and muttered, “Pervert.”
She’d pulled her shirt up without even blinking!
Shen Jueshu didn’t flinch at the accusation. Instead, her next words made Sui Yu’s face turn bright red.
“Compared to the way you licked and bit my gland, I’m not sure which one of us is more perverted.”
Sui Yu opened her mouth… and had absolutely nothing to say in response. She could only glare at her.
Shen Jueshu’s lips curved into a slow, satisfied smile.
“But don’t worry,” she added, “I won’t be reporting you to the police.”
Sui Yu: “…”
