Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 39.2
Yet hearing her answer, Shen Jueshu let out a quiet smile. Her heart unexpectedly felt a little lighter.
After chatting a while longer, the two finally went back to their own rooms. Shen Jueshu lay on her bed, curled slightly on her side, staring at the empty pillow beside her. Her chest felt tight. She wished—desperately—that someone was lying there, close enough to share that familiar, comforting scent she craved.
Closing her eyes, Sui Yu’s image filled her mind. Her throat was dry. Would she ever know? Would she know that this was the image haunting my thoughts every night?
Would she think I’m filthy?
Shen Jueshu slowly curled her body into a ball, heart aching. She never imagined there would come a day when she would feel such intense desire for someone.
Meanwhile, Sui Yu hummed a tune as she headed into the shower, taking a long, relaxing bath. Lying in bed afterward, she felt completely at ease. Even she hadn’t expected how freely she could live in this world. Freed from the constraints of her old life, she finally felt liberated.
Now… all that was left was figuring out how to avoid the “plot correction” enforcers that threatened to drag her back into the story.
The next morning, Sui Yu accompanied Shen Jueshu to the company. The moment they arrived, something felt off. At the front desk stood a woman—holding a jacket that looked oddly familiar.
She frowned and leaned toward Shen Jueshu. “Is that your jacket? Why does she have it?”
Shen Jueshu looked over and immediately recognized the woman. But seeing that Sui Yu didn’t even recognize the person—only the jacket—made her lips curl into a pleased smile.
“Yes, that’s mine,” she said calmly. I didn’t expect her to still have it.
As soon as the woman saw them, her eyes lit up. She walked quickly toward them, stopping about a meter away from Sui Yu. With a shy smile and slightly flushed cheeks, she held out the jacket and said, “Thank you for saving me the other day. Your scent was really comforting.”
When Sui Yu saw her walking straight toward her, she suddenly remembered—this was the jacket she had brought for Shen Jueshu that night at the fireworks show!
Her brows furrowed slightly. After spending some time in this world, she’d learned that complimenting someone’s scent… was essentially the mating call of this universe.
“What are you talking about? My wife was the one who saved you, not me. And that jacket isn’t mine,” Sui Yu said, stepping back and placing Shen Jueshu in front of her like a shield.
To be fair, back then, it really was Shen Jueshu who had looked after the woman most of the time.
The woman froze, her gaze locking with Shen Jueshu’s dark, unreadable eyes. A cold chill ran down her spine, like a venomous snake had just slithered up her back and hissed at her throat.
With a forced smile, she turned toward Shen Jueshu. “Ah… so it was you. Thank you for saving me that day. I don’t know what I would’ve done otherwise.”
She held the jacket out to her.
But Shen Jueshu just glanced at it indifferently. “No need. Just throw it away—I don’t wear things that others have touched.”
The woman’s face stiffened even more as she awkwardly lowered her hand. “I… I didn’t know you had that habit. Sorry.”
Shen Jueshu didn’t respond. Instead, she took Sui Yu’s hand and led her away, brushing past the woman without another word. Don’t think I didn’t notice the spark in her eyes when she saw Sui Yu—that woman came here for her.
Sui Yu let herself be pulled along, but as they passed other employees, she noticed people beginning to whisper. Quickly, she shook off Shen Jueshu’s hand and snapped in a loud, impatient voice, “Don’t touch me!”
Even knowing this was all for show, the sudden rejection still pierced Shen Jueshu like a needle to the heart. She let out a cold laugh. “Weren’t you the one calling me ‘wife’ just now while hiding behind me? Who’s pretending now?”
Sui Yu sneered, “You think I wanted to call you that? I only said it to stop that woman from getting the wrong idea. Who’d waste energy on you otherwise?”
With that, she turned and stormed off, leaving Shen Jueshu behind.
Watching her walk away, Shen Jueshu’s chest rose and fell sharply. She hated this—hated the feeling that in other people’s eyes, she and Sui Yu were always on the verge of breaking up.
She glanced around at the onlookers pretending not to watch. Her face grew even darker.
Later, when both had returned to their offices, the company’s internal group chat exploded with gossip. The sound of typing filled the building.
A: Whoa! That drama hit fast and early today!
B: You think that woman was some romantic fling from Sui General Manager’s past? Coming back to stir things up?
C: Nah, she said Sui helped save her. But did you see how possessive Shen Jueshu looked? Like a full-on jealous wife!
D: True, but Sui didn’t look like she cared. No affection there.
Unaware of the buzzing conversation behind their backs, Sui Yu returned to her desk and spotted the documents she had asked Qin Qing to compile yesterday. She skimmed through them, counting the files.
Seven.
She frowned and counted again.
Still seven.
But she distinctly remembered seeing eight people in that private room…
She picked up the phone and called Qin Qing. When she arrived, Sui Yu held up the file. “Why is one person missing from this list?”
Qin Qing blinked, took the file, and counted. “There are seven. That’s right.”
“You’re sure nothing’s missing?”
“Absolutely. I even checked the surveillance footage.”
Sui Yu’s expression darkened. “Bring me the footage.”
Something wasn’t right. She had just reviewed the profiles. One person—an Alpha male with a particularly eerie look—wasn’t in the list. That face had stuck with her because of how unsettling it was. His whole presence had felt… off. Without his scent and visible breath, she would’ve wondered if he were even alive.
Sensing something serious, Qin Qing didn’t dare waste a second. She returned quickly with a tablet and pulled up the hallway surveillance footage.
There were no cameras inside the private room, but the hallway clearly showed who entered. Including Sui Yu herself, the footage showed eight people entering.
And yet… that man—the one she remembered so vividly—was nowhere to be seen.
Her expression turned serious. Sui Yu asked Qin Qing, “Did you confirm with the club staff how many people were in that private room?”
Qin Qing nodded without hesitation. She hadn’t risen to her current position without sharp instincts. “Yes, I confirmed it. Everyone I asked said the same thing—there were eight people in total, including you.”
Sui Yu handed back the tablet and sat in her chair, staring at the screen in deep thought. She was absolutely certain she had seen that man. It wasn’t some hallucination. So why didn’t the surveillance show him? And why did everyone else insist there were only eight people?
Unable to shake the feeling, she grabbed the folder of profiles and rushed to Shen Jueshu’s office. To others watching, she looked like someone storming in to settle a score.
