Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 38.1
Shen Jueshu lifted her gaze, quietly meeting Sui Yu’s eyes. All she could see there was sincerity.
She really meant it.
“Do you think we can really change the story?” Shen Jueshu asked softly. Ever since learning she was the protagonist of a book, even she had begun to feel uncertain.
“Of course!” Sui Yu answered without hesitation, her eyes shining. “Just look at us now—the plot’s already off track, isn’t it? I didn’t imprison you, and you didn’t ruin me. We’re both doing fine.”
Under the heat of that gaze, Shen Jueshu felt almost scorched. Then, slowly, she came back to her senses. That’s right—the two of them had already stepped off the story’s original path.
“Thank you, Sui Yu,” she said quietly. Thank you for coming to this world.
Sui Yu beamed at her. “Does that mean I deserve a gift for it?”
“Hm?” Shen Jueshu made a soft, confused sound.
Sui Yu’s cheeks reddened slightly as she mumbled, a little sheepishly, “Some of the lab equipment I ordered before wasn’t complete. There are still a few items I need. Would you mind helping me buy them?”
Back then, she hadn’t been familiar with all the tools used in this world’s labs—so a few things had been overlooked.
Shen Jueshu listened, then said dryly, “…Alright.”
Everything this person wants is always for her lab.
Hearing her agree, Sui Yu instantly lit up, smiling with unhidden delight.
Seeing her smile so happily, Shen Jueshu’s expression softened a little as well. A subtle curve appeared at the corners of her lips.
As long as this person stayed by her side… maybe she could learn to accept that this world was a book, and she was a character created inside it.
Now that the truth was fully out in the open, Sui Yu felt a weight lift off her chest. Keeping a secret like that had worn on her too. She’d felt guilty hiding it all this time.
She tilted her head and looked at Shen Jueshu’s beautiful profile. A thought tugged at her mind:
Now that the plot has changed, when Shen Jueshu eventually meets her fated Alpha… will she still fall in love with them?
She wasn’t sure.
Sui Yu wrapped her arms around her knees, resting her chin on top, thinking quietly. When Shen Jueshu meets her destined partner, it’ll probably be under similar circumstances to now. That means… she’ll probably still fall for them, right?
She let out a soft sigh. I guess I’ll have to carefully check out that destined Alpha someday—see if they’re really as perfect as the book made them out to be.
“Shen Jueshu, what kind of person do you like?” she suddenly asked.
She remembered clearly that in the book, Shen Jueshu’s fated Alpha was a younger, wolf-like type—loyal and clingy when affectionate, domineering and possessive when assertive, completely wrapping Shen Jueshu around their finger.
Shen Jueshu gave her a look. Why is she asking this all of a sudden? Did she suspect something?
But when she saw Sui Yu’s clear, innocent gaze, she realized she was probably just overthinking it.
After a pause, she replied, “I don’t have a specific type.”
“Huh? Really?” Sui Yu looked genuinely surprised. I thought you liked younger wolf-type Alphas… After all, the book described how the moment Shen Jueshu first met her destined Alpha, she was instantly drawn to their youthful energy—something she herself didn’t have.
Shen Jueshu lowered her eyes, saying nothing more.
Seeing her like that, Sui Yu scratched her head and asked, “So you don’t like younger clingy Alphas? The kind who wag their tail just for you? So full of energy they make you feel young just by being around them?”
Shen Jueshu’s brows knit slightly. She looked at Sui Yu with narrowed eyes. “Why are you asking? Is there something you’re not telling me?”
And such a specific description too—was she trying to imply something?
“Eh?” Sui Yu blinked, then cleared her throat. “Just curious! That’s all.”
But Shen Jueshu’s reaction made her feel strangely giddy inside. Judging by her confused expression, it seemed Shen Jueshu hadn’t met her fated Alpha yet in this lifetime.
That meant… there was still time.
Shen Jueshu kept her suspicious eyes fixed on her. After a moment of thought, she narrowed her eyes further and said, “Are you hiding something from me?”
Sui Yu’s gaze started wandering—looking at the ceiling, the floor, anywhere but Shen Jueshu’s face. “Nope, not at all. I told you everything I know.”
“Really?” Shen Jueshu let out a cold chuckle. Her tone dropped. “Then let me ask you—if this really is a novel, do I have a romantic storyline in it? And what’s it like?”
Sui Yu: “…”
Ah yes. That’s our main character for you. Sharp as ever!
“N-nothing big. It’s fine,” she stammered, clearly dodging the question. She didn’t even dare meet Shen Jueshu’s eyes. At the same time, she was panicking—If I tell her now, will it cause a butterfly effect?
Shen Jueshu stared straight at her. It was obvious she was lying. But since she wasn’t willing to talk, there wasn’t much she could do about it.
Narrowing her eyes, Shen Jueshu said meaningfully, “Whatever it is, I just want you to know—I’m not going to fall in love with anyone else.”
The one I want… is right in front of me.
A flicker of fire lit in Shen Jueshu’s eyes. The desire she’d been suppressing grew hotter, more difficult to ignore—especially now, in the middle of her heat. Her craving for closeness only intensified.
Her throat was dry. Her pheromones surged again—but this time, they didn’t spread aimlessly into the room. They wrapped tightly, deliberately, around Sui Yu.
As if trying to drown her in it. To trap her in Shen Jueshu’s scent.
That soothing warmth seeped through her, easing every nerve. But inside… it still wasn’t enough.
She didn’t just want emotional comfort.
She wanted to be held and wanted to be touched.
She closed her eyes, silently reminding herself not to rush. Judging by Sui Yu’s reaction, it was obvious that she wasn’t ready for such intimacy—if she pushed too hard, it might even scare her away.
Her throat moved as she swallowed. If I want what I desire most… then I have to become the most patient hunter and wait in silence.
Sui Yu was wrapped in thick waves of pheromones. Oddly enough, though it was still Shen Jueshu’s icy scent of snow, this time it didn’t feel cold. Instead, it settled warmly around her, soft and gentle—like a harmless cloud.
Still, regardless of how the pheromones had changed, Sui Yu could tell Shen Jueshu had once again entered her heat. She reached up to touch her own gland and gave a bitter smile.
Why do you keep doing this to yourself? If she damaged her gland, it would only make the heat even worse later. The one suffering most would still be her.
Looking at Shen Jueshu’s tense, restrained posture, Sui Yu gritted her teeth, then once again leaned her neck toward her.
She can’t keep releasing pheromones like this—it’s taking a toll on both of us. Sui Yu had no choice but to trust her again.
“Shen Jueshu,” she warned, “I’m telling you—if you mess up my gland again, it’s going to be ruined. So you’d better behave this time!”
Shen Jueshu looked at the familiar neck offered to her once more, then gently buried her face in it. At such close range, the soft scent of geranium filled her senses—but now it was laced faintly with the smell of blood and medicine.
Only in Sui Yu’s arms could she truly relax. Only her scent could soothe the pain.
