Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 37.4
Shen Jueshu stepped slowly out of the bathroom. Her eyes fell on the sleeping figure on the sofa, and her expression was unreadable. She walked over, one step at a time, and crouched down in front of her.
Looking at her face up close, Shen Jueshu felt a wave of confusion rise within her. She didn’t understand it—why did looking at this face stir such emptiness in her chest? Why did she suddenly want this person to stay and fill those missing pieces?
She used to hate this face.
So why—why could the same face now bring such different feelings?
Her throat moved slightly as she reached out, trying to touch her. But just before her fingers could brush Sui Yu’s cheek, she stopped.
Because this wasn’t her Sui Yu.
This was the Sui Yu from another world.
Shen Jueshu lowered her head. In the end, we don’t belong to the same world.
She got up and walked to the bay window, quietly eating the food Sui Yu had brought. Her eyes gazed outside, unfocused.
She still hadn’t given Sui Yu an answer—about the truth. Or even whether she herself wanted to know the truth.
The two of them stayed silently in the same room.
After finishing her meal, Shen Jueshu took the tray downstairs. When she returned, she was carrying a medical kit.
She walked to Sui Yu’s side, carefully adjusted her posture, and gently began to unwrap the bandages around her neck.
It was time to change the dressing.
As she slowly removed the gauze, Shen Jueshu found herself thinking—Why is it that every time Sui Yu is with me, she ends up getting hurt? And every injury… is caused by me.
When the angry, jagged wound on her neck was fully revealed, Shen Jueshu’s eyes grew darker.
She took out a cotton swab soaked in disinfectant and began gently cleaning the wound. Then she reached into Sui Yu’s pocket for the medication prescribed by the doctor, applied it carefully, and wrapped her neck with fresh gauze.
Throughout the entire process, Sui Yu never woke up.
Is she really that tired? Shen Jueshu wondered.
Being around me… must be exhausting.
Shen Jueshu sat on the carpet, leaning back against the sofa, her gaze blank as she stared ahead. Gu Ying’s voice echoed in her mind over and over again:
“No one will ever love you.”
And now, she believed it.
Who would love someone like her—so unpredictable, so cold? Even she didn’t think she was worthy of love.
But the desire burning inside her chest didn’t fade. It refused to go out.
Just then, a soft, sleepy voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Huh? Why are you sitting here?”
Sui Yu had just woken up, her voice still drowsy and sweet.
Shen Jueshu turned her head slightly to look at her, watching her rub her eyes slowly, but didn’t answer.
Sui Yu’s gaze dropped to the first aid kit on the floor and the bloody bandages beside it. She paused for a moment, then said softly, “Thanks for helping me.”
Hearing those words, Shen Jueshu’s expression darkened even more. Her voice turned hoarse. “You don’t need to thank me. Your injury was because of me.”
“That’s true,” Sui Yu said, nodding in agreement. Then, she smiled faintly. “So I guess it’s only fair for you to keep taking care of the wound.”
Her tone was gentle—none of the anger from last night remained. She sounded calm now, almost lighthearted.
Finally, Shen Jueshu turned fully toward her. Her expression eased slightly, and she gave a small nod. “Alright.”
Sui Yu smiled. “Wait—didn’t you have an important meeting today?”
She had just remembered.
“I had someone else go instead,” Shen Jueshu replied casually.
Given their current state, it was clearly impossible for her to go anywhere.
Sui Yu looked at her with a bit of disbelief. So it really was something that could be handed off. And yet before, she insisted on doing everything herself and ran herself ragged.
“Well, since that’s the case, take the chance to rest at home for once,” Sui Yu said, stretching lazily. Just as she was about to ask Shen Jueshu to come downstairs and play games with her, Shen Jueshu suddenly asked:
“That truth you mentioned… what is it?”
Sui Yu froze mid-stretch, her arms still in the air. She turned to look at Shen Jueshu and, after a brief pause, asked, “Are you sure you want to know?”
“I’m sure,” Shen Jueshu replied softly.
Seeing how serious she was, Sui Yu sat down beside her on the carpet. Her voice turned quiet and steady.
“No matter what I say next… please let me finish. Try not to get too upset.”
Shen Jueshu didn’t respond, only nodded silently.
Sui Yu looked ahead and began speaking slowly.
“You know I’m not from this world. In the world I came from… I liked to read novels.” She paused, then continued, “One day, I came across a book. The story took place in this world. And you… were the main character.”
“And me—the version of me in this world—was the scumbag Alpha who hurt you.”
Shen Jueshu didn’t react much. She simply asked, “And then?”
“Then, I found myself in this world, inside this body. I took the original Sui Yu’s place and started changing the story.”
Shen Jueshu nodded again. “Can you tell me more about the original plot?”
Sui Yu looked at her. Her face was calm—so calm it was almost unreadable. After a short silence, Sui Yu began.
“In the story, you were forced into marriage by the original Sui Yu. You two didn’t get along at all. She tried to mark you, but you refused. Eventually, she locked you in the basement.”
Shen Jueshu nodded again. It was exactly what had happened in her previous life.
“Later, with help from some of the Shen family’s allies and Li Jiang, you escaped. Within three years, you took over her company—and locked her in the basement, just like she once did to you. She never saw sunlight again.”
Shen Jueshu’s hands, resting at her sides, curled into tight fists. Her expression gradually tensed.
Because Sui Yu was right.
In her past life, when she finally caught the original Sui Yu, she had wanted to do exactly that.
So… it was true. Her whole life had been part of a book. She was just a character someone created.
If that was the case…
Was she ever real to begin with?
Shen Jueshu’s mind spun with confusion. If everything about me was made up by someone else… then what’s the point of my life at all?
Seeing her dazed expression, Sui Yu’s heart ached. She turned to Shen Jueshu, gently rested her chin on her knee, and looked up at her.
“No matter what, you’re still you,” she said softly. “You’ve shown me sides of yourself I never saw in that book. You’re real to me—standing right in front of me. It wasn’t until I met you that I really understood who Shen Jueshu is.”
Shen Jueshu looked down at her, at that gentle, sincere face. But the ache in her chest only deepened.
Now that she knew the truth, she felt even more clearly—she and Sui Yu were truly from two different worlds.
“My whole life was made up,” she whispered.
“But things have already changed, haven’t they?” Sui Yu said. “We still have the power to write a different story. We don’t have to follow the plot anymore.”
Shen Jueshu didn’t respond. Her eyes grew more distant, her expression more empty.
Seeing her slip into that silence, Sui Yu suddenly said, “What if this world is a book too? What if the story now… is about the two of us meeting?”
Shen Jueshu blinked, startled. For the first time in a while, her gaze found focus again. She looked at Sui Yu and asked in a soft, almost afraid voice:
“Do you really think so?”
Sui Yu met her eyes, serious and steady. “If no one wakes up and questions things… how can we know my world wasn’t a story, too?”
“Shen Jueshu, maybe we’re from two different books—two stories that crossed paths.”
“But no matter what, we’ve already broken free of the original plot. We can live as our true selves.”
As she spoke, her voice trembled just slightly, and her nose felt sore. Who can say for sure if her world was the real one?
All she knew was this: since coming here, and shedding the expectations and burdens she’d carried before—this was the truest version of herself.
“We can both be our real selves,” she repeated softly.
Shen Jueshu echoed the words under her breath.
“We can… be real.”
“If I could come to this world,” she murmured, “then it means this world can be changed.”
“Sui Yu,” she said quietly, “I’m glad you came here.”
“I’m glad I met you.”
