Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 35.3
“Shen Jueshu,” she began softly, “I don’t know if you’ll be able to handle it… if I tell you the real truth.”
If it had been someone else, just a minor character in the story, it wouldn’t have mattered much. But Shen Jueshu was the protagonist. She was bound by the narrative to follow the path laid out for her.
Shen Jueshu asked, “Is the truth that painful?”
Sui Yu thought for a moment, then nodded.
“Yes. It’s painful.”
Painful enough to destroy a person’s entire sense of self. Some people, once they lose their sense of purpose, lose everything.
Shen Jueshu turned her head to look at her, her gaze fixed on Sui Yu’s expressionless eyes.
“Do you think I should hear it?” she asked.
Sui Yu’s face darkened further. Suddenly, she pulled Shen Jueshu into a tight embrace and said, her voice low and earnest,
“If you ask me… honestly, I don’t know. But right now, I respect your choice. If you want to know, I’ll tell you. If you don’t, I’ll keep quiet.”
“I just want you to be okay.”
Because if she were to learn that her life had been predetermined—that nothing she did could change her fate—how would she handle it? What if, despite everything, her ending remained the same?
Sui Yu didn’t dare dwell on the answer.
Within the embrace, filled with the scent of geranium, Shen Jueshu finally felt her nerves begin to ease. She slowly closed her eyes, letting herself relax, just a little.
Then, unexpectedly, Sui Yu felt two hands wrap lightly around her waist. She froze for a moment, caught off guard—Shen Jueshu was responding to her?
“Let me think about it,” Shen Jueshu whispered.
Sui Yu held her tighter.
“Okay.”
No matter what happened, she would stand by her side.
—
After holding each other for some time, Sui Yu finally let go. Looking into her eyes, she said seriously,
“Get some rest. We still have plans to visit Siyue tomorrow. Who knows how she’s doing on that filming base.”
They had both been so busy recently that neither had managed to visit Jiang Siyue.
“Mm.” Shen Jueshu nodded faintly and stood up first, heading upstairs.
Watching her walk away, Sui Yu couldn’t help but smile a little. If she hadn’t seen wrong, Shen Jueshu’s ears looked slightly red. She shook her head—this woman’s skin was still so thin. Just a hug, and she was already shy?
But once Shen Jueshu was gone, Sui Yu leaned back into the sofa, her thoughts returning to what Gu Ying had said.
If Gu Ying was what he claimed to be—a kind of plot corrector—then the real question was: Where did people like him come from? Who assigned them their roles? Who gave them this power?
And more terrifyingly… how many more of them were there?
Sui Yu’s expression darkened. If Gu Ying wasn’t the only one, then who were the others? Gu Ying’s arrogance had exposed him early, but what about the rest? Were they hidden in plain sight, waiting for their moment?
The thought sent a chill creeping up her spine. The moment it entered her mind, it refused to leave. It made her chest feel tight and her skin crawl.
Before, she could ignore the weirdness of this world. But now… everything felt different.
“Ugh, what the hell am I supposed to do?” Sui Yu groaned, burying her face in her hands. Given everything that had happened, it was clear—she could no longer pretend life would go on as normal.
Some force—a person or something else entirely—had realized that the plot had deviated, and had sent Gu Ying to “correct” it. And now that he had failed… would another come?
Hoping to live peacefully now seemed like a distant dream.
And one thing still puzzled her: How had the original version of herself brought her here in the first place? Did she have some hidden ability?
She stared at her hands. Aside from being admittedly attractive, they were completely ordinary. They didn’t transform or conjure anything. She tilted her head, wondering—was she just incapable of using some power? Or… was there truly nothing there?
Sui Yu rolled her eyes. The original Sui probably hadn’t expected that there would be such a thing as a plot corrector. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have left behind so many vague and unhelpful hints. She would’ve just explained everything directly—saved her from all this guessing.
Unable to think any further, Sui Yu decided to give her brain a break. After going upstairs and washing up, she remembered something and sent Shen Jueshu a message to ask for her opinion.
Sui Yu: I think Gu Ying is of no further use to us. Just let him go.
This decision might seem like releasing a tiger back into the mountains, but Sui Yu was confident she wouldn’t fall into Gu Ying’s traps again. If she had avoided them once, she could avoid them again.
Shen Jueshu: I’ll have someone escort him back.
Seeing this reply, Sui Yu smiled and sent a simple Good night.
Much later, Sui Yu received another message from Shen Jueshu—this time, the screen showed two simple words: Good night.
Sui Yu set her phone down. As she closed her eyes to sleep, she thought: this was the first time she and Shen Jueshu had ever exchanged goodnights.
And honestly… it felt pretty nice.
She slept soundly through the night, dreamless until morning. When Sui Yu opened her eyes, even she found it hard to believe—after all the emotional turmoil of the previous night, she’d slept so peacefully. Strangely, she felt well-rested and comfortable.
Maybe when the body is rested, the mind opens up as well. Thinking back on everything, Sui Yu stretched and thought, No matter what comes, I’ll deal with it when it happens. There’s no need to get tangled in endless what-ifs before anything even begins.
When she went downstairs, Shen Jueshu was already sitting at the dining table. Upon seeing her, Shen Jueshu offered a faint smile—making Sui Yu feel like the day was off to a good start.
“I’ve already had him taken away,” Shen Jueshu said as Sui Yu sat down.
“Mm. But maybe we should still assign someone to keep an eye on him,” Sui Yu replied after thinking for a moment. Better safe than sorry, even if she had confidence in herself.
“Mm,” Shen Jueshu agreed.
After breakfast, they loaded up the car with snacks that the housekeeper had prepared—Jiang Siyue’s favorites. On the way, they made a detour to a supermarket and did some heavy shopping, filling both the back seat and trunk. Only once the car was full did they drive to the filming base.
Jiang Siyue had already been there for nearly a month. Two episodes of the show had aired during that time. Perhaps her presence was just too memorable, because she had already gained quite a few fans. Online, those fans were calling her “Jiejie” left and right. Fortunately, she rarely used her phone—if she did, her ego might have skyrocketed.
Thanks to prior coordination with the show’s crew, the two of them were able to reach Jiang Siyue’s practice room without any trouble. Staff members even helped carry the food, which was shared with the other contestants.
When Jiang Siyue saw them, her eyes lit up, and she ran over happily. Clinging to Shen Jueshu’s arm, she affectionately called out, “Saozi!”
Sui Yu: “……”
Why does she seem to be getting more and more affectionate with Shen Jueshu? Has she completely forgotten about me?!
Perhaps sensing Sui Yu’s speechlessness, Jiang Siyue grinned and offered an explanation:
“You and Saozi are one and the same! If I greet her, it’s like I’m greeting you too!”
Sui Yu: “……”
Still trying to push us together, huh?
Shen Jueshu’s lips curved slightly as she handed over the milk tea Jiang Siyue loved.
Jiang Siyue didn’t even drink it before her mouth sweetened. “Thank you, Saozi! You’re the best!”
Sui Yu could only sigh in exasperation. As they walked together to the lounge, she asked, “So how are things going? Are you doing okay? Still have enough money?”
Jiang Siyue looked smug enough to fly. “If things weren’t going well, would I have such good results?”
In both aired performances, she’d placed in the top three.
“As for money, I’ve barely touched what you sent last time. There’s not much to spend on in here anyway.”
Since the others were all in the practice room, the lounge was empty—just the three of them—so conversation flowed freely. Jiang Siyue’s eyes darted between the two women, and she lowered her voice in mock secrecy:
“So… how’s your little two-person world been while I was away?”
Without her around, they’d probably been living like honeymooners.
Sui Yu: “……What nonsense are you spouting?”
This girl is about to enter the entertainment industry and still talks like there’s no filter at all.
Shen Jueshu remained seated quietly, saying nothing.
“Huh? Nothing happened?” Jiang Siyue looked genuinely disappointed.
Sui Yu rolled her eyes and decided to change the subject. “Where’s Mo Yu? I didn’t see her just now.”
“Oh, she took time off to go home and visit her sister,” Jiang Siyue replied casually.
“She could take time off?!” Sui Yu was surprised.
Jiang Siyue blinked. “She’s number one, and clearly the strongest. A few missed days of practice won’t matter.”
Besides, she went home to celebrate Li Mi’s birthday. There’s no way the crew wouldn’t let her.
Sui Yu: “……”
I clearly underestimated the situation.
Shen Jueshu quietly listened to their exchange, a faint smile softening her usually cold demeanor. It made her look far more approachable.
Sui Yu turned back to Jiang Siyue. “Has your brother been bothering you again?”
When Jiang Siyue first joined the show, Jiang Boshan had tried to pull her out, only to be blocked by the crew.
“Probably not? No one from the crew has mentioned him,” Jiang Siyue replied, looking genuinely cheerful. With the crew protecting her, she no longer worried about Jiang Boshan showing up—life had been pleasantly relaxed.
Sui Yu nodded. As long as Jiang Boshan isn’t causing trouble, Jiang Siyue could stay focused on her competition.
“Saozi,” Jiang Siyue turned to Shen Jueshu again, puzzled. “Has Li Jiang been… less busy lately?”
“Hm?” Shen Jueshu looked slightly confused. “Why do you ask?”
“She’s come to watch two performances in a row,” Jiang Siyue said in disbelief.
“Before, she was so busy she’d split herself in half if she could. Why would she suddenly care about some entertainment show she always thought was meaningless?”
And the weirdest part? She didn’t even come with Li Mi! I didn’t see her anywhere near her.
Shen Jueshu exchanged a look with Sui Yu. She hesitated, which was rare.
“To my knowledge, she’s very busy,” she replied.
The Li family recently landed a major project. Everyone’s been working around the clock.
“She’s busy and still came to watch the show?” Jiang Siyue frowned, clearly puzzled.
But Sui Yu had a different theory. Could it be that Li Jiang is starting to regret things? Now that Jiang Siyue’s chasing her dreams and ignoring her, maybe she couldn’t adapt to not being the center of her attention—and came to rekindle what they once had?
Before she could speak, Jiang Siyue suddenly widened her eyes in alarm.
“Wait—do you think she’s got… some twisted thoughts?” she gasped.
“Like… what if she’s fallen for Mo Yu? What if she’s planning to steal her away from her own sister?!”
