Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 35.2
Looking down at the array of cakes and puddings, Shen Jueshu’s expression seemed to soften ever so slightly. She accepted the fork and said, “Aren’t afraid people will see? You ordered this much and brought it straight here. It’s obvious the two of us are sharing it.”
Quite a few people had seen her walk into Sui Yu’s office. Anyone with half a brain would guess what was going on.
Sui Yu chuckled. “Can’t we at least maintain the illusion of a loving couple from time to time?”
They couldn’t be butting heads all the time, could they?
Shen Jueshu: “……”
She slowly began to eat the desserts. The sweetness spread through her mouth, and somehow… her mood did feel a bit better.
In the days that followed, the two began clashing openly at work. Everyone could see the tension—Sui Yu’s increasing impatience with Shen Jueshu, and the way Shen Jueshu’s face grew colder whenever she saw Sui Yu. The frequent disagreements in decision-making were a clear sign that a storm was brewing.
As the situation dragged on, some employees who had long been dissatisfied with Shen Jueshu began to gravitate toward Sui Yu. A faction slowly began to form, creating a visible divide within the company.
But what they didn’t know was that each evening, after work, the two women would sit down together. Sui Yu would hand Shen Jueshu a carefully compiled list.
“I’ve sorted them into categories,” Sui Yu said. “Some want the company to return to the ‘Sui’ name. Some are just opportunists with hidden agendas. And most of the rest—well, they’re Alphas. I think they just can’t stand the idea of an Omega holding them down.”
Upon hearing Sui Yu’s words, Shen Jueshu first opened the list of the third category of people. Right away, she spotted two familiar names—weren’t these the same two Alphas who had called her boring and claimed Sui Yu had grown tired of her?
Her face remained impassive. She read through all the documents in silence before finally saying, “I won’t keep these people anymore.”
She had already given them a chance—it was they who had failed to appreciate it.
“I agree. People like that shouldn’t stay,” Sui Yu said, fully supporting the decision. After all, it would still be Shen Jueshu managing Sui He in the future. If those individuals remained in the company, they would always be a hidden danger. They didn’t respect Shen Jueshu and were just waiting for a chance to drag her down. People like that were like venomous snakes—the moment they locked onto a target, it sent chills down one’s spine.
More importantly, if they didn’t even respect the leadership, how seriously would they treat their actual work?
Seeing that Sui Yu supported her decision, Shen Jueshu subtly let out a breath of relief. For a moment, she had feared that Sui Yu might see her as a tyrant who couldn’t tolerate dissent.
“But this matter,” Sui Yu said seriously, “should wait until the others are dealt with first. Then I’ll take care of it myself.”
These weren’t people with open hearts. If Shen Jueshu were to personally fire them, who’s to say they wouldn’t spread malicious rumors about her outside the company? This was something better handled by an Alpha—by Sui Yu herself.
Hearing that, Shen Jueshu looked up and gazed at her quietly. She understood the reason behind Sui Yu’s words—but she hadn’t expected Sui Yu to willingly play the bad guy.
These people were supposedly in Sui Yu’s faction. Wouldn’t her actions alienate the rest?
“You’re not worried others will turn against you?”
Sui Yu raised her eyebrows and chuckled. “So what if they do? I won’t be staying in management anyway. Even if they wanted to retaliate, they’d have nowhere to aim.”
Once things were settled in the company, she wouldn’t remain there. The lab—that was where she truly belonged.
Hearing that, a faint smile tugged at the corner of Shen Jueshu’s lips. She said nothing more.
The two of them then sat down together and further categorized the list. Some people, though they disagreed with Shen Jueshu, genuinely cared about the company’s future. Those individuals, they decided, could be kept—and potentially even given important responsibilities. Shen Jueshu was confident she could eventually earn their full respect.
However, they weren’t entirely sure if the list was complete yet. So for now, they would observe quietly, waiting for more to reveal themselves.
While this part of the plan was momentarily paused, a breakthrough finally came on Gu Ying’s side.
The staged drama had progressed to the point where Lan Xin had been emotionally moved by Ning Huai—and had fallen for him. With two people mutually attracted, a moment of passion was inevitable. So when he saw Lan Xin let Ning Huai into her room, Gu Ying finally lost all composure.
“You dare!” he roared, his eyes bloodshot. His struggle made the iron chains clatter uncontrollably.
Sui Yu smiled, her expression nonchalant. She twirled her phone around her fingers, her voice laced with false kindness. “We couldn’t record what’s happening in the room, but don’t worry—we’ve prepared something on our male lead. Would you like to see how Miss Lan looks from his perspective?”
“Sui Yu!” Gu Ying growled through gritted teeth, eyes burning with hatred. If looks could kill, she would have been torn limb from limb.
“Ah~” Sui Yu responded with a playful tone. “Oh right, what you’re watching is a live feed. You still have a chance to stop it, you know.”
She tapped the phone in her hand, showing it was on a call, then pointed to her ear—implying that the person on the other end could hear everything. Relaxed and unfazed, she sat in the glass room’s only chair, legs crossed, fingers tapping rhythmically on the table.
Gu Ying’s jaw clenched so tightly it seemed his teeth might shatter.
“Tsk tsk,” Sui Yu clicked her tongue and said, “After tonight, our male lead will ask Miss Lan for money under the pretense of starting a business. His goal is to empty her finances and leave her in debt. Do you think she’ll still stick by his side?”
“Oh, I think she will,” Sui Yu sighed, almost regretfully. “She seems like the type who’s hopelessly in love.”
She added with a faint lament, “Romantic fools like her—if they meet the right person, it’s all good. But if they run into someone with bad intentions, it’s the start of a living nightmare.”
“It’s such a pity. She has someone who truly loves her right beside her, and yet she chooses the one destined to bring her endless suffering.”
Gu Ying’s eyes were bloodshot, and he practically spat out his words: “I’ll talk!”
Sui Yu’s eyes lit up. “You could’ve said that earlier.” She turned to the phone and instructed calmly, “Pause for now. Try to soothe the subject.”
Then she looked back at Gu Ying with mock seriousness. “You better tell the truth. It’s very unhealthy to stop things so suddenly, you know.”
Gu Ying looked like he could bite through steel.
His expression darkened, and he spoke in a low voice: “I can’t tell you everything in detail. All you need to know is—I have an identity. My role is to ensure certain events follow the course they’re meant to. If I fail, that identity will cease to exist.”
Sui Yu tapped her fingers against the table. “And those ‘events’ you’re referring to… are they what you tried to convince me to do at the hotel last time?”
“Like pushing me and Shen Jueshu together?”
“Locking her up?”
This time, Gu Ying remained silent—but his lack of response was already an answer.
Sui Yu’s tapping fingers slowly came to a stop. Her expression turned neutral as she asked,
“If you fail—and your identity ceases to exist—what will happen to you?”
Gu Ying lowered his head even further. His voice was low and hoarse:
“Then I won’t be me anymore.”
“How many others like you are there?”
Gu Ying shook his head. “I don’t know.”
Sui Yu looked up at him, but remained silent for a long time. Finally, she stood up and walked to the glass door, preparing to leave.
“Sui Yu! You promised me!” Gu Ying’s voice called from behind.
Her hand rested lightly on the keypad. “Don’t worry. She’s fine. Everything was just a performance,” she said softly. With a beep, the door unlocked, and she walked out.
Inside the glass room, Gu Ying stared blankly at her departing figure, unable to believe he’d actually been deceived by Sui Yu.
—
Elsewhere, as Sui Yu emerged from the basement, she saw Shen Jueshu sitting in the living room, holding a phone that was still on a call. Sui Yu looked down and ended the call.
“You heard everything, didn’t you?” she asked.
Shen Jueshu said nothing, her silence more telling than words.
Sui Yu sat down beside her. After a moment’s hesitation, she reached out, gently resting her palm on Shen Jueshu’s shoulder in a quiet gesture of comfort, simply sitting with her in silence.
It was a long time before Shen Jueshu finally spoke. Her voice was low and hoarse, as if she had been holding back too much for too long:
“What kind of logic is this? Why does your so-called logic mean that I have to be imprisoned by you?”
This time, it was Sui Yu who fell silent. The hand that had been gently rubbing her shoulder slowly stilled. She stared at the polished surface of the coffee table before her. It was so smooth she could faintly see her own reflection—one that looked just like her, and yet somehow distant.
Was she really brought to this world simply because she shared a name and face with the original version of herself?
