Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 30.1
“Yay!”
Jiang Siyue cheered and clung tightly to Shen Jueshu’s arm. “Sister-in-law is still the best!”
Sui Yu immediately didn’t like the sound of that. What do you mean she’s the best? Could she not see everything I had done?
When her eyes met Sui Yu’s clearly disapproving gaze, Jiang Siyue shrank halfway behind Shen Jueshu, grinning. “Well, she’s my boss now. Gotta stay on my boss’s good side!”
Shen Jueshu: “…” Did you really have to say it like that?
Without replying, she quietly took a sip of water.
“Hahaha—” Sui Yu let out a mocking laugh, throwing Shen Jueshu a teasing look. “So you’re just a tool, huh~?”
The exaggerated lilt at the end of her sentence made it extra irritating.
Shen Jueshu shot her a sidelong glance, lips curling into a cold smile. But before she could fire back, Jiang Siyue slapped her shoulder and declared, “No way! Sister-in-law’s not a tool—she’s a sponsor!”
After all, as someone relying on Shen Jueshu to get opportunities, she was the benefactor!
Shen Jueshu: “…” This idiot.
She set her cup down and got up, heading straight back to her room. She had no desire to waste her brain cells on these two fools.
As soon as she left, Jiang Siyue glared at Sui Yu with frustration. “Look what you did! You made her leave! I hadn’t even finished buttering her up yet!”
Sui Yu: “…And whose fault is that? Honestly, with the way you try to ‘butter up’ people, it’s a miracle she didn’t slap you.”
She looked all fierce on the outside, but deep down she was just a clueless, sweet dummy…
At the mention of slaps, Jiang Siyue recalled the time Sui Yu’s face had swelled up like a pig’s head. She immediately clutched her face and bolted back to her room. Her face was her career—no way she could afford damage to it.
Left alone on the first floor, Sui Yu sat quietly for a while. In the end, she stood and opened the hidden passage to the basement.
She was certain Shen Jueshu had locked him down there.
Even though she hadn’t been told, she just knew.
Sure enough, when she saw the man inside the glass room, her hunch was confirmed—but Sui Yu felt no satisfaction. Staring at the basement, now eerily like the one described in the novel, she had no idea when Shen Jueshu had made these modifications.
And if Gu Ying hadn’t appeared… who had she originally prepared this place for?
Her feet felt cold. The chill crept up from the ground, freezing her blood and stiffening her expression.
“Sui Yu!” Gu Ying roared when he saw her.
The sheer force of his shout jolted her from her daze. Meeting his burning gaze, she sighed, exhausted.
“Do you have a reason to hate me this much?” she asked softly. Her eyes met his, flickering with fury. “Wasn’t this your idea? So it’s fine if used on Shen Jueshu, but suddenly not okay when it’s used on you?”
“To be that much of a hypocrite… it’s honestly disgusting.”
Her words left Gu Ying stunned for just a moment. But only a moment. He gritted his teeth and snarled, “She’s not the same as me!”
“She’s not the same as you?” Sui Yu slowly repeated. Her lips curved into a smile—cold and mocking. “You’re right. How could she ever be the same as you? Who do you think you are, trying to compare yourself to her?!”
With that last word, Sui Yu released her pheromones, pressing down on him with the full weight of her Alpha dominance.
“You’re nothing! You’re weak, you’re stupid—and you dare shout at me?” she growled.
Whoever had chosen him for this job must’ve been cursed. She had never seen someone try to sow discord with such pathetic tactics. Did he really think he could manipulate her with just a few words?
“Ahhh—!” Gu Ying writhed under the pressure, unable to move. Deep in his heart, an instinct to submit began to rise—and disturbingly, he felt no resistance to it.
Watching him sweat and pale, Sui Yu’s face remained expressionless.
“Who sent you?” she asked coldly. “Why are you trying to manipulate me? What’s your purpose?”
“And most importantly—what are you people?”
Gu Ying trembled, his jaw clenched so tightly it shook. Even under such pressure, he didn’t speak a single word. The Alpha pheromones ravaged him, yet he remained silent.
Seeing that he still refused to break, Sui Yu retracted her pheromones with a blank expression. Clearly, he still had a mental wall she needed to crack.
She left the basement and stood by the secret door for a long while.
If this had been in the past, she never would’ve believed she’d someday imprison someone. But now, she didn’t even feel like it was wrong.
Looking up, her eyes met Shen Jueshu’s from the second-floor landing.
They stared at each other across the distance, both seemingly aware of what the other might be thinking, yet clouded by a fog of uncertainty.
Was what they imagined really what the other person felt?
—
The next morning dawned bright and clear.
Sui Yu lay in bed for a while, staring at the good weather through her window before slowly dragging herself up to wash and dress.
When she came downstairs, only Shen Jueshu was at the dining table. Jiang Siyue had likely gone to the office already. In the kitchen, the housekeeper bustled quietly.
Sui Yu sat across from Shen Jueshu and said softly, “I’m planning to go back to the old estate today. I want to see if I can find anything useful.”
Shen Jueshu paused, the milk glass halfway to her lips. She looked at Sui Yu. “What kind of useful clues?”
Sui Yu poked at her food without much appetite, glancing toward the kitchen before lowering her voice. “I suspect the original Sui Yu knew something—something hidden. And I’ve started to wonder… did she already know I was going to arrive?”
She couldn’t help but think it, especially after what Jiang Siyue had said the other day. The original had mentioned something about changing her pheromones one day.
And now… that’s exactly what had happened.
In this world, once someone differentiates, their pheromones don’t change. In fact, their scent is almost like a personal signature—an identity.
Shen Jueshu was silent for a moment. Then she said, “I’ll go with you today.”
“Alright,” Sui Yu replied calmly. She wasn’t surprised by her offer.
After finishing breakfast, the two of them headed out, with Sui Yu driving. While on the road, she said, “Actually, I suspect Uncle Li knows something about the Sui family’s secrets, but he just refuses to talk.”
She remembered clearly—when she’d asked why her mother had killed her wife, Uncle Li hadn’t looked confused. He’d looked troubled. That meant he knew something. He just didn’t want to say it. And what had he meant when he warned her not to repeat the same mistake?
Shen Jueshu tapped lightly on the door armrest, sifting through her limited memories of the Sui family. From what she could recall, the family had once felt warm and happy. Old Master Sui had been gentle. Sui Yu’s mothers had loved each other. Everything seemed peaceful and harmonious.
But by the time she heard about them again, everything had changed.
Sui Yu’s mother had killed her wife and then taken her own life. It had become headline news—fuel for public gossip and speculation. The center of a scandal.
As for Old Master Sui, he had grown moody and unstable. People believed that losing both daughters-in-law had pushed him into a mental breakdown.
That was why, when Sui Yu later changed so drastically, no one found it odd.
“We should definitely take a closer look at Old Master Sui,” Shen Jueshu said.
His behavior suggested he knew something. The question was whether he had left any clues behind.
Sui Yu nodded. She agreed completely.
But before that, she still wanted to go through the original Sui Yu’s bedroom again. There was a restlessness in her heart—an urgent need to know what had happened to the person who had lived in her body before her.
When they arrived at the old estate, Uncle Li greeted them as always. He showed no surprise at how often they were coming by now. Still warm and courteous, he welcomed them in.
As Sui Yu looked at Uncle Li again, she couldn’t help staring at him for a long time. Her throat tightened like she wanted to speak, but in the end, under his kind and patient gaze, she stayed silent.
She and Shen Jueshu went upstairs. And the moment she pushed open the door to the original Sui Yu’s room, something shifted inside her.
That feeling hadn’t been there the last time.
