Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 29.4
Shen Jueshu couldn’t stop thinking about it. If the match really were low, how could she understand Sui Yu’s emotions so clearly through her scent? That kind of connection only happened with high compatibility.
Could it be that… she and this Sui Yu were highly compatible?
Lily noticed her zoning out and curled her lip in curiosity. She silently vowed that one day, she would get samples of their pheromones and run a proper test. She was dying to know—there was no way a top-tier Alpha and a top-tier Omega had only a 9% match.
Unaware of Lily’s scheming thoughts, Shen Jueshu stood up, picked up her purse, and turned to Sui Yu.
“It’s ten o’clock. Aren’t we leaving?”
They had arrived at 7:30, and somehow dinner had lasted all the way until 10:00—it was honestly ridiculous. Hearing Shen Jueshu’s reminder, Sui Yu instinctively stood up and waved goodbye to Lily.
Lily smiled and waved back, though in her mind she was wondering: How exactly does Shen Jueshu train people? One sentence from her and Sui Yu was up without hesitation—no objections, no attitude. She was honestly way too obedient.
Sui Yu followed Shen Jueshu outside and, once again, took the driver’s seat to head home. But this time, the silence on the return trip felt subtly different from the silence on the way there—more oppressive, more unsettling.
“Is something wrong? Didn’t you enjoy seeing your friend?” Sui Yu asked. After all, Shen Jueshu had dressed up so beautifully for it…
Wait.
A sudden thought hit Sui Yu like a lightning bolt. Was Shen Jueshu upset because she spent all her time at dinner talking to Lily—leaving Shen Jueshu out of the conversation?
Was this… friend jealousy?
The more she thought about it, the more convinced Sui Yu became. Of course—that had to be it! Shen Jueshu had clearly put effort into dressing up and had probably wanted to catch up with her friend, but Sui Yu had hijacked the conversation. No wonder she was mad!
But now they were already halfway home—it’s not like Sui Yu could just turn around and bring her back to Lily, right?
Shen Jueshu looked out the window and didn’t reply.
The quieter she was, the more Sui Yu felt that she was angry—and really angry.
Sui Yu’s mouth went dry. She’d been upset at Shen Jueshu earlier, but now Shen Jueshu was turning around and being mad at her? After everything that had just happened today?
And yet, the more she thought about it, the more Sui Yu felt like her own anger was much more justified. Her irritation started to feel reasonable, and that earlier guilt quickly vanished, replaced by a newfound calm confidence.
Shen Jueshu immediately noticed the change in her demeanor. She glanced at Sui Yu, not understanding what sort of nonsense the woman had cooked up in her head this time. But seeing her so calm only made Shen Jueshu’s already moody feelings worse.
As the car wound its way up the mountain road and neared the house, they spotted another car parked in front of the villa. Two familiar silhouettes stood beside it.
Sui Yu’s expression darkened the moment she recognized them.
It was Jiang Siyue and Li Jiang—together.
What the hell were they doing here together?
She stepped on the gas and pulled up beside Li Jiang’s car with a screech. Slamming the door behind her, she strode toward Jiang Siyue, first glaring at her hard before turning to Li Jiang with a polite, forced smile.
“President Li, thank you for going out of your way to bring Siyue home this late. Really—much appreciated.”
Jiang Siyue, seeing Sui Yu, looked like a kid caught sneaking cookies—nervous and guilty, biting her lip and unsure what to do.
Li Jiang didn’t seem fazed by Sui Yu’s clear hostility. She simply smiled and looked past her toward the slowly approaching Shen Jueshu.
“I heard from your assistant you didn’t come to the office today. Everything alright?”
Shen Jueshu stepped up beside Sui Yu, her voice calm. “It’s Saturday. There wasn’t much going on, so I gave myself the day off.”
Li Jiang’s brows furrowed slightly. That didn’t sound like the workaholic she knew. But it wasn’t her place to comment. She nodded to them all in farewell, then got into her car and drove off without hesitation.
As the car disappeared from view, Sui Yu turned her gaze to Jiang Siyue, staring at her silently.
Jiang Siyue clutched her backpack straps nervously and said softly, “Ah Yu, if I told you everything was just a coincidence, would you believe me?”
Sui Yu let out a low, unreadable hum and said in the tone of a strict school principal, “Then tell me—what kind of coincidence?”
Shen Jueshu stood to the side, watching them like a mother hen scolding her wayward chick. It was hard not to laugh. Sui Yu was definitely the overprotective hen, and Jiang Siyue was the slightly mischievous chick.
The image made her chuckle.
She spoke up to defuse the situation, “If you’re going to explain, let’s do it inside. No point standing at the front door.”
Sui Yu agreed and nodded. She let the two of them walk in ahead while she went to park the car.
Once all three were inside, Sui Yu crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at Jiang Siyue. “Alright. Tell me—what kind of coincidence leads to you being driven home by Li Jiang?”
Jiang Siyue sat up straight on the couch like a schoolkid being called to the principal’s office. She looked down and began, “I went to the company to practice. On the way back, the car broke down. I was going to call you to pick me up, but just then, Li Jiang happened to be dropping her cousin off at our company to meet with Mo Yu. Her cousin saw me stranded and asked Li Jiang to give me a ride home.”
She raised her right hand and held up three fingers. “I swear—not a single lie! I didn’t say or do anything inappropriate!”
Sui Yu looked her over. She really didn’t seem like she was lying.
Turning to Shen Jueshu, she asked, “Mo Yu’s one of your company’s artists?”
What are the odds?
Shen Jueshu glanced at Jiang Siyue, then nodded. “I heard we signed someone named Mo Yu. Promising potential.”
Sui Yu: “…”
Finally, she turned back to Jiang Siyue. “Alright, fine. But next time something like this happens, call me. If you don’t want to call me, then call your sister-in-law. Let her come get you.”
At that, Jiang Siyue’s eyes lit up. She responded without hesitation, “Okay!”
Shen Jueshu, seated beside them: “…Did anyone ask if I agreed to that?”
Jiang Siyue turned and looked at her with wide, pleading eyes. “Sister-in-law, don’t you agree?”
That pitiful look was impossible to resist. On top of that, Sui Yu shot her a pleading glance too, and Shen Jueshu fell silent.
These two are adults, aren’t they? Why do they act like overgrown kids pulling the puppy-dog-eyes routine?
Sui Yu gave a theatrical cough. “Well, seems like your sister-in-law isn’t on board after all. I guess just call me from now on.”
“No way! I want my sister-in-law to pick me up!” Jiang Siyue immediately protested. She moved to sit beside Shen Jueshu and clung to her arm, giving her the same pleading look. “Sister-in-law, I even treated you to crayfish last time! Come on~”
Shen Jueshu: “…”
Why does Jiang Siyue suddenly feel like a carbon copy of Sui Yu’s shameless streak?
“…Fine.”
