Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 29.1
For a moment, Sui Yu was left speechless by Shen Jueshu’s question. Her face turned slightly pale—she didn’t know how to answer.
Seeing her fall silent, a ripple of emotion finally surfaced on Shen Jueshu’s calm expression. She looked at Sui Yu and said with a faintly mocking smile, “Didn’t you say you’d tell me? Well, I’m asking now—why are you suddenly mute?”
Sui Yu’s hand, hanging at her side, clenched into a tight fist. Confronted by Shen Jueshu’s sharp retort, she felt ashamed and at a loss. She turned her gaze aside—and it landed on the unconscious Gu Ying. Faced with such an unexpected twist, even her current abilities felt inadequate.
After a brief silence, she looked up and slowly walked toward Shen Jueshu. The latter, however, didn’t flinch or move back. Her gaze remained calm and steady.
When Sui Yu stopped just half a meter away and noticed no resistance, she stepped even closer. Now standing very near, she leaned in and lowered her voice beside Shen Jueshu’s ear:
“Do you remember what I said on our wedding day? That if I told you I wasn’t Sui Yu, would you believe me?”
She had hesitated before, thinking no one would believe such a strange claim. But then she recalled the possibility that Shen Jueshu had been reborn. If Shen Jueshu had experienced reincarnation, then perhaps she was also capable of accepting the truth—that Sui Yu was not the original Sui Yu.
Her warm breath brushed softly against Shen Jueshu’s ear, bringing with it a strange tingling sensation. Shen Jueshu was momentarily distracted. Then, recalling what Sui Yu had just said, her face remained unreadable, but in her heart, it felt like a heavy stone had finally landed—So it’s true.
Sui Yu pulled back slightly. “This isn’t the right place to say more.”
As she stepped away, the faintly cool scent of geraniums lingered in the air. Shen Jueshu found herself dazed again. Somehow, the cooler tone of the geranium fragrance smelled far better now—less cloying, and instead gently refreshing.
“Mm,” Shen Jueshu replied softly.
But her calm reaction left Sui Yu surprised. She studied Shen Jueshu’s face but couldn’t see even the slightest trace of shock or doubt. It was as if what she had said moments ago was no more unusual than asking about the weather.
“You…” Sui Yu found herself at a loss again. Was her acceptance level really this high? If she told her later that this world was actually a novel, would Shen Jueshu take that in stride too?
But Shen Jueshu didn’t continue the topic. Her gaze turned to the unconscious Gu Ying on the floor and asked, “What happened to him?”
Following her line of sight, Sui Yu replied casually, “Oh, he was teaching me how to ‘get’ you—so I decided to let him experience his own lesson firsthand.”
At that, a sly smile curved her lips. She took a particular pleasure in using someone’s own methods against them.
Shen Jueshu caught the smile and, as she looked away, her eyes darkened slightly. This version of Sui Yu… reminded her faintly of the old one.
“So what was his method?”
The smile slowly faded from Sui Yu’s face, replaced by a serious, contemplative expression. She looked at Shen Jueshu, but her eyes seemed to gaze through her—seeing a version of Shen Jueshu from the past, struggling in despair inside a basement.
“He said, all I had to do was break your wings and lock you up. Then, your world would only contain me.”
Shen Jueshu’s hand tightened at her side. She lowered her eyes to the floor and stared at the pattern of the wood beneath her feet, forcing a small smile. “So… is that what you plan to do?”
Her long hair slid forward with her movement, hiding her face. But the tension in her slightly hunched shoulders betrayed the effort it took to control her emotions.
Seeing her like this made Sui Yu’s nose sting. She stepped forward again, this time reaching out to pull Shen Jueshu into a hug. Her arms closed tightly around her, and she fought hard to keep her voice steady—normal—even though she was close to tears.
“You have to believe one thing—I would never hurt you. I would never do something like that to you.”
Because I know your past. So no matter what you did to me before, I can understand it… simply because I care about you. And because my heart aches for you.
Held tightly in Sui Yu’s arms, Shen Jueshu was once again enveloped by that geranium scent. Even her pheromones now seemed to carry a deep sense of tenderness and concern.
Pheromones couldn’t lie. They revealed what words could hide.
Shen Jueshu stood quietly in her embrace, but inside, her heart was crumbling. She couldn’t help but wonder: Why didn’t you appear in my last life?
If you had, would I have been spared all that inhuman torment?
Why did you have to come so late?
Why only after I had already suffered, after my body and heart had been broken beyond repair… do you come now, telling me you care?
What can late compassion really change?
Sui Yu didn’t say anything else. She just held her in silence. And only when she felt Shen Jueshu’s body finally relax a little, did she gently let go and restore the appropriate distance between them.
“Could you have someone take him back?” she asked softly, nodding toward Gu Ying. “I think he might still be of use to us.”
Shen Jueshu slowly looked up. When her eyes met Sui Yu’s, full of genuine concern, she gave a small nod.
Soon after, someone came to carry Gu Ying out. Once he was gone, only the two of them remained in the private room, and an unusually heavy silence fell between them.
Sui Yu glanced at the time—it was barely just past one o’clock. After all that had just happened, she figured Shen Jueshu probably hadn’t eaten either.
She suggested, “Are you hungry? Let’s eat here before we head back.”
Faced with her suggestion, Shen Jueshu didn’t refuse.
Sui Yu called for the staff to come in and clear the dishes from the table, then ordered a new round of dishes—ones more suited to Shen Jueshu’s tastes.
When the food was served, Shen Jueshu noticed that most of the dishes matched her preferences. She glanced at Sui Yu.
“Ahem, this meal’s on me,” Sui Yu said, a little awkwardly. “When you treat someone to a meal, of course you cater to their tastes.”
Shen Jueshu didn’t respond. She simply picked up her chopsticks and began eating quietly.
The entire meal passed in silence. When they finished and stepped outside, Shen Jueshu followed Sui Yu and got into her car. Glancing at her in the passenger seat, Sui Yu couldn’t help but ask, “Didn’t you drive here yourself?”
With a calm expression, eyes fixed forward, Shen Jueshu replied, “I took a cab. It was more convenient for tracking you.”
Sui Yu: “…”
She was honestly impressed. Hadn’t it only been a short while since the last time Shen Jueshu followed her? And now she’d done it again—completely unashamed—and even admitted it out loud!
Sui Yu had nothing to say to that. She simply started the engine and drove home.
On the way back, though she remained silent, Shen Jueshu kept sneaking glances at her. Of course, Sui Yu noticed—but she chose to ignore them.
When they got out of the car, it was Shen Jueshu who broke the silence. “Are you angry?” she asked. After all, under normal circumstances, Sui Yu would never act this calmly.
Sui Yu stepped out of the car, then turned back to smile faintly at Shen Jueshu, who was still seated in the passenger seat. “If I followed you around again and again, would you be angry?”
Not to mention—Shen Jueshu had gone even further than that. She’d bugged her phone!
Shen Jueshu said nothing. She got out and followed Sui Yu into the villa.
At this hour, Jiang Siyue hadn’t returned yet, and the housekeeper wasn’t around either. Just like in the hotel private room earlier, a deep silence settled around them. After sitting opposite each other for a long while, Shen Jueshu finally spoke.
“Give me your phone.”
Sui Yu instinctively grew wary. “Why?”
