Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 28
“What do you mean by that?” Sui Yu gripped her phone tightly, her expression darkening.
Gu Ying’s smile didn’t fade. “Haven’t you already guessed?”
Sui Yu’s face remained tense, her eyes fixed coldly on Gu Ying’s smiling face. In the end, she backed step by step toward the door and placed her phone on the shelf beside it.
Seeing this, Gu Ying’s smile deepened noticeably.
Back at the dining table, Sui Yu sat down and looked straight at Gu Ying. Her voice was cold. “Talk. Who exactly are you?”
She hadn’t even known there was a bug in her phone—yet he did. That alone raised serious questions about his identity and capabilities.
However, despite her cold tone, Gu Ying seemed completely unfazed. On the contrary, his smile grew more meaningful. “I’m here to help you.”
Sui Yu let out a short, scornful laugh. “Help me? What could I possibly need your help with? Do I even know you?”
“And I’m sick of this cryptic, riddle-speaking nonsense from people like you. If you’ve got something to say or something to do, just get to the point and be clear!” Her gaze sharpened as she stared him down, enunciating each word: “This kind of secretive, evasive behavior is downright infuriating!”
Under her piercing glare, a chill ran down Gu Ying’s spine. It felt as though he were facing a venomous snake—one wrong move and he’d be bitten.
Waves of unease churned in his heart. He hadn’t expected to feel actual fear just from her gaze. That shouldn’t have been possible—not for someone like him.
“So you’re not going to talk?” Sui Yu’s lips curled into a cold smile as her eyes darkened. “Then what—did you call me here just to mess with me?”
Gu Ying’s throat bobbed as he swallowed. The pressure of an Alpha’s pheromones began to press down on him. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead, and his complexion turned a shade paler. Gritting his teeth, he said, “I told you—I’m here to help you. That’s the truth. Don’t you want to have Shen Jueshu all to yourself?”
“To make her completely yours—in heart and in body.”
The last sentence was delivered in a tone laced with subtle temptation.
A rare and exquisite Omega like Shen Jueshu—there wasn’t an Alpha alive who could truly resist her. Countless had tried to win her, by any means necessary.
Yet at his words, Sui Yu merely curled her lips, her eyes showing a faint trace of contempt. “Mr. Gu, have you forgotten something? Shen Jueshu is already my wife—legally. She’s already mine.”
Gu Ying steadied his breath, forcing himself to maintain composure despite the Alpha pressure weighing on him. “Oh? But is that really the truth?” he countered calmly. “Yes, you’re married in name. But do you truly have her—in every sense?”
Sui Yu’s hand clenched into a fist beneath the table. Her gaze turned icy as she sneered, “And what business is that of yours? Why are you even helping me?”
This man had appeared out of nowhere. There had never been such a character in the novel. And yet now he had stepped into a role of undeniable significance.
“Under normal circumstances, none of this would involve me,” Gu Ying said. “But now, I’ve been pulled in—let’s just say I have a task. And that task is to bring you and Shen Jueshu together.”
He forced a mild smile onto his lips, trying to appear trustworthy.
Sui Yu’s expression changed. Beneath the table, her hand dug into her thigh to keep herself from showing any overt reaction. She held back the storm brewing within and asked in a slightly puzzled tone, “And who exactly gave you this ‘task’? What’s the benefit of getting me and Shen Jueshu together?”
Gu Ying’s words left her both surprised and suspicious. By his logic, how could she not suspect that he, too, might be someone who had transmigrated into this story? Perhaps even someone with a mission.
But why would his mission be to pair her with Shen Jueshu? If he had read the original novel, he should know what kind of fate Shen Jueshu originally faced.
Unless… what he meant by “bringing them together” was to ensure the story followed its original path?
“You don’t need to worry about who assigned it,” Gu Ying replied with certainty. “Just ask yourself—don’t you want Shen Jueshu?”
“A top-tier Omega, exuding that pure, snow-like aura—so rare, so beautiful. Not even once have you felt your heart stir?”
He refused to believe Sui Yu hadn’t been tempted. If not, why else would she have forced Shen Jueshu into marriage to begin with? Even if things had since gone off-script, it didn’t change the fact that Sui Yu wanted her—wanted her completely.
Sui Yu’s smile turned even colder. She had to admit—this Gu Ying really knew how to manipulate people’s hearts. If he were saying these words to someone else harboring feelings for Shen Jueshu, they would’ve likely fallen for it immediately.
“Oh, really?” she said coolly. “Then why don’t you tell me how exactly you plan to ‘bring me and Shen Jueshu together’?”
She couldn’t understand how an outsider like him could so confidently speak of matchmaking—as if her marriage to Shen Jueshu didn’t already exist.
Not to mention, she and Shen Jueshu were currently bound by a mutual mark.
At her question, Gu Ying’s smile deepened, and his voice dropped to a slightly husky tone. “Don’t you think your starting point is already better than anyone else’s?”
“You’re already her legal spouse. For such a proud Omega, all you need to do is break her wings and keep her caged. Once her entire world consists of only you… wouldn’t a Shen Jueshu who thinks of nothing and no one but you be utterly irresistible?”
Hearing his low, tempting voice, Sui Yu briefly lost focus. For a moment, she even found herself wanting to agree—say exactly what he wanted to hear. But as soon as she realized that impulse, cold sweat broke out all over her body, her heart pounding in alarm.
He was trying to lure her down the original storyline!
A wave of fury surged inside her, but she knew she had to stay calm. She understood too little about the man in front of her. His manipulative words were confusing—what was his endgame?
If she really let herself fall under his spell, wouldn’t she be pushing Shen Jueshu straight into the fire?
Seeing her remain silent, Gu Ying pressed again. “Sui Yu, don’t you want to be the only one in Shen Jueshu’s world?”
Sui Yu looked up at him—and suddenly smiled.
Her smile was dangerous now, sharp with a wicked edge, and the pressure of a top-tier Alpha’s pheromones came crashing down on him like a tidal wave.
Her voice dropped, low and calm. “You make a good point. But how could an Alpha ever be satisfied with just one Omega? So I think… caging you sounds like a good idea too.”
Her pheromones surged, completely overpowering Gu Ying. He could no longer speak, his face twisted in disbelief. A moment later, with a clench of her fist, the pressure tightened—and Gu Ying collapsed under its weight, passing out cold.
He slumped in the chair like a pile of useless flesh. Sui Yu’s expression didn’t soften in the slightest. She was angry—furious, even—but at the same time, filled with uncertainty. She had no idea what to do next.
Everything was spiraling out of control. She hadn’t even sorted out her relationship with the original Shen Jueshu, and now this Gu Ying—possibly another transmigrator—had suddenly appeared, making things even more complicated.
And possibly was the key word.
After calming down, Sui Yu began to doubt that Gu Ying was just a transmigrator. If he had come into this world with a mission, then someone—or something—had to have given it to him. In her years of experience navigating second-world narratives, that usually meant some kind of system was involved.
But if a system truly was supporting him, then there was no way he would’ve been so easily knocked out by her pheromones.
It didn’t make sense.
He was too weak.
She cast a disdainful glance at his unconscious body. Honestly, he was even worse than Shen Jueshu during her heat cycle.
Even at her weakest, Shen Jueshu hadn’t been that affected by Sui Yu’s pheromones. But this Gu Ying? He’d passed out almost instantly.
Sui Yu stood and retrieved her phone, her face tight with unease. If Gu Ying wasn’t a transmigrator, then where did his mission come from? Who was he, really? And why was he trying to push her to follow the original storyline?
As she stared at her reflection in the black screen of her phone, Sui Yu felt her heart grow heavy—with confusion, with frustration. If Shen Jueshu had been reborn, she could understand why she might install a listening device on her phone.
But understanding it didn’t mean she wasn’t furious.
On the contrary—she was livid.
She stared at her phone and spoke coldly: “I imagine you’re nearby. Come out.”
Given that Shen Jueshu had known she was going to meet Gu Ying—and then suddenly lost the ability to monitor the call—Sui Yu refused to believe she’d just stayed home obediently. She was likely somewhere in this very hotel.
As soon as the words left her mouth, the door to the private room opened.
Sui Yu turned her head.
There stood Shen Jueshu in the doorway, her expression calm. She wore a simple white T-shirt, black casual pants, and white sneakers—dressed like a bright, youthful college student. Yet her long, loose hair carried a graceful maturity, and when her eyes met Sui Yu’s, there was a stillness that made time seem to stop.
Sui Yu’s hand clenched tighter around her phone. Her expression darkened as she slowly raised it for Shen Jueshu to see, her voice icy.
“Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”
Shen Jueshu glanced briefly at the phone in her hand and replied calmly, “I admit—I had someone do it.”
“Heh… heh.” Sui Yu lowered her head, letting out a soft, humorless laugh. Even her shoulders drooped slightly, as if drained of strength.
“Shen Jueshu,” she said, voice quieter now but even more measured, “if you want to know something, you can ask me. There’s no need to resort to this kind of trickery. This… crosses a line.”
“I told you myself about this meeting with Gu Ying, didn’t I? Was there really any need for such underhanded methods?”
Faced with Sui Yu’s questioning, Shen Jueshu’s expression didn’t change. “Would you really tell me everything if I asked?” she said flatly. “Then tell me—why did you try to run away from the wedding?”
“Why did you go from one extreme to another, acting so completely different?”
“Would you have answered those questions if I asked?”
