Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 26.3
As she spoke, her eyes bore into Uncle Li’s with urgency—like a child desperate for answers, clinging to the hope that someone might finally explain the tangled past of her parents.
“This… this…” Uncle Li’s expression grew conflicted.
“You can’t tell me?” Sui Yu pressed.
Uncle Li lowered his gaze and sighed softly. “Miss, please don’t make it hard for me.”
Sui Yu didn’t respond. She just stared at Uncle Li for a long time before finally shifting her gaze—to Shen Jueshu, who had just come down from upstairs.
Shen Jueshu walked over and glanced at Uncle Li standing next to Sui Yu. “You can go,” she said calmly. “I need to speak with her privately.”
“Yes, Madam,” Uncle Li responded quickly, as though relieved, and quietly left the space to them.
“You came back here today for a reason, didn’t you?” Shen Jueshu sat down on Sui Yu’s right, poured herself a cup of tea, and took a slow sip. Her eyes were calm, but searching.
The question caught Sui Yu off guard. Her mind raced to come up with an excuse. But after mentally flipping through all her options, none of them seemed good enough.
“It’s been a long time… I just wanted to take a look,” she said awkwardly.
Shen Jueshu looked at her and remarked blandly, “You’re really bad at lying.”
Just one glance at her unnatural expression was enough to know she wasn’t telling the truth. Her lying ability was like that of a three-year-old—written all over her face.
Sui Yu: “…” Of course I’m lying! It’s not like I can tell you the truth!
“Can you not keep staring at me like that?” she mumbled. “We agreed to keep to our own lanes, didn’t we? What you’re doing now feels like a violation of that.”
“Mm. It is a violation,” Shen Jueshu admitted calmly. Then she added, “But you crossed the line first. During my heat, you already went too far.”
“!”
Sui Yu stared at Shen Jueshu in disbelief. “I did it for you!”
If it weren’t for her, during that heat cycle—when the suppressants had failed—how could Shen Jueshu have possibly gotten through it so smoothly?
“But in essence,” Shen Jueshu said calmly, “you were the one who broke the rules first, weren’t you?”
Sui Yu: “…”
She suddenly felt like Shen Jueshu was one of those people who repaid kindness with betrayal. Like someone collapsing in the street, and after she kindly helped them up, they turned around and accused her of assault.
“It’s people like you that make society colder and more indifferent,” Sui Yu muttered, her tone heavy. If betrayal became the norm, who would ever dare to do good again?
Shen Jueshu smiled at her. It was an undeniably beautiful smile, but when Sui Yu looked at her like that, she felt a chill run down her spine. There was something unsettling about her gaze.
“Doing something doesn’t mean others can’t talk about it,” Sui Yu grumbled under her breath—so softly this time that Shen Jueshu didn’t hear it.
She clamped her mouth shut. No matter what, she wasn’t about to tell Shen Jueshu what she was actually doing. The woman’s increasingly unpredictable behavior was starting to make her nervous.
Surprisingly, Shen Jueshu didn’t press her. Instead, she said, “The lab location has been finalized. It’ll be on the top floor of Suihe Group. The equipment is already being fast-tracked in. Once it’s all set up, you can check if anything needs changing.”
At the mention of the lab, Sui Yu’s eyes lit up—but when she heard the location, her entire body went cold, as if drenched in icy water.
So now not only at home, but even at work, she’d be constantly running into Shen Jueshu? That would only make their friction worse!
“That might not be the best idea,” Sui Yu said awkwardly. “Having it at Suihe might disrupt your work…”
Also, wouldn’t that completely destroy the original host’s established image? Abandoning her duties in the company just to tinker with experiments? Anyone who saw that would probably assume she’d lost her mind.
“I don’t think it’ll interfere with my work at all,” Shen Jueshu said plainly.
She did have her own motives for placing the lab at Suihe—namely, keeping Sui Yu right under her nose. And having her presence at headquarters could help keep certain scheming parties in check.
Although Shen Jueshu currently held control of the company, she knew there were people with hidden agendas. Many still believed she must’ve used shady means to wrest the company and shares from Sui Yu. Those doubters were mostly loyalists left behind by the Sui family—so naturally, they resented her.
Still, the power balance at Suihe wasn’t entirely one-sided. Not everyone blindly followed the Sui family. That’s what made rooting out disloyal elements more difficult.
She had to admit—she was using Sui Yu as a tool.
Sui Yu was speechless. But she knew there was no way to change the lab’s location now. She clenched her mental handkerchief in frustration. No matter the world, it was always those with power who got the final say.
“I know I asked for your help building this lab, but let’s be clear—this is my project. It’s a personal interest of mine, so everything within the lab is under my management. You’re not allowed to meddle or micromanage.”
She had to draw that line now. She could accept compromises on the lab’s location, but she wouldn’t tolerate anyone interfering with how it was run.
Shen Jueshu smiled. “I’m not a professional in this field, so I won’t try to take over a professional’s work.”
She understood the principle of staying out of things she didn’t understand.
Hearing that, Sui Yu relaxed a little. If Shen Jueshu had already promised that, hopefully she’d stick to it.
But despite all the talk, and two cups of tea later, Shen Jueshu showed no signs of leaving. Sui Yu was starting to get restless. “How long do you plan on staying here?”
Was she glued to the couch or something?
“I’ll stay as long as you do,” Shen Jueshu answered smoothly.
Sui Yu wanted to curse. Shen Jueshu was constantly getting in her way. Last time, she called and dragged her to Suihe to meet her so-called fiancé. This time, she followed her straight to the mansion. Sui Yu was starting to suspect Shen Jueshu knew something—why else would she keep interfering?
With a cold snort, Sui Yu stood up and headed for the door. Clearly, she wouldn’t be finding anything today.
Just as she stepped out, she ran straight into Uncle Li.
Uncle Li glanced behind her and leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. “Miss, when it’s time to treasure something, you should treasure it. Don’t repeat the mistakes of the past.”
“Once is enough. Don’t make the same mistake again.”
Sui Yu froze and turned to look at him, frowning slightly. “Uncle Li, what are you talking about?”
But Uncle Li just smiled at her gently and said nothing more.
Sui Yu’s hand clenched into a fist at her side, her expression cooling. Without another word, she walked away from the old mansion.
