Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 26.2
She didn’t see Sui Yu on the first floor, so she ascended slowly to the second. Unlike the first floor, the second was coated in a fine layer of dust, dim and desolate—like a forgotten corner, carrying a cold and abandoned air.
Following the faint footprints in the carpet, she traced them to a particular room and knocked gently on the door.
Inside, Sui Yu had just picked up a painting when the knock startled her so badly she nearly had a heart attack. The painting slipped from her hands and fluttered to the ground, but she had no time to care. She rushed to the door, lowered her voice, and asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s me,” came Shen Jueshu’s calm voice from the other side.
The door swung open instantly. Sui Yu looked at the woman in front of her—Shen Jueshu stood tall in a smoke-gray suit, her figure elegant and poised, standing in stark contrast to the dusty, muted surroundings.
“What are you doing here?” Sui Yu was truly stunned this time. Her eyes widened in disbelief. “You followed me?!”
Shen Jueshu’s expression didn’t change at all, as though being caught stalking someone meant nothing. Her gaze passed over Sui Yu’s shoulder into the room and noticed something lying on the floor. It piqued her interest.
“Yes, I followed you,” Shen Jueshu admitted without hesitation. She stepped around Sui Yu and walked straight toward the item on the floor.
“Wait, hold on—!” Sui Yu suddenly realized what it was and spun around to stop her, but she was too late. Just as Shen Jueshu bent down to pick up the painting, Sui Yu dropped to a crouch and covered her face in shame. Embarrassment swept over her like a tidal wave.
When Shen Jueshu’s fingers touched the paper, she saw only its blank reverse side at first. But seeing Sui Yu shrinking like a turtle into her shell made her all the more curious—what could possibly be on this paper to make her react like this?
She turned it over—and froze.
Sui Yu looked up and saw her stunned expression. She wished she could crawl into a hole and disappear. She had no idea the original Sui Yu had been such a deviant… to have drawn that.
The painting depicted two completely naked young women. One was pure and ethereal like a divine being, with white wings folded modestly to cover the vital parts. The other knelt before her in mud and filth—like a penitent, a worshiper.
To be fair, the painting was beautifully done. If the faces hadn’t been their own, Sui Yu would have genuinely praised the original host’s artistic talent.
But it was their faces. Hers and Shen Jueshu’s.
And of course, Shen Jueshu had seen it.
Sui Yu no longer dared to look at Shen Jueshu’s expression.
Shen Jueshu stared at the girl with wings—herself—painted with such detail that even the individual feathers conveyed an overwhelming sense of reverence. Opposite her, the muddy figure of Sui Yu appeared as someone degraded and sinful, kneeling in repentance.
She glanced from the painting to the woman crouched awkwardly on the ground, and then studied the paper more closely. Sure enough, in the bottom right corner, delicately penned in fine strokes, was the character Yu .
There was no doubt—the painting was done by Sui Yu herself.
Without a word, Shen Jueshu placed the artwork gently on the table and even found something to hold it down, so it wouldn’t be blown away.
Seeing this, Sui Yu was stunned. She looked at Shen Jueshu’s back in disbelief—she hadn’t said a single word about the painting, nor did she appear offended in the slightest.
Sui Yu hesitantly stood up. “You… you’re not angry at me?”
Shen Jueshu’s gaze remained on the wall full of gouges and scrapes, a canvas of silent rage. She couldn’t understand what Sui Yu had hated so deeply to do this.
“Do you think I should be angry?” she asked flatly, her tone so calm it was as if the subject of the painting weren’t her at all.
Sui Yu was momentarily speechless. Of course, she didn’t want Shen Jueshu to be angry. But if she was, Sui Yu couldn’t argue. After all, she was occupying Sui Yu’s body now—and to outsiders, anything the original had done naturally reflected on her.
She carefully rolled up the painting and put it away, then stood still, afraid to act rashly. She still didn’t understand why Shen Jueshu had followed her here.
Today, Shen Jueshu felt different. Her usual sharpness seemed softened. Even when confronted with something as strange and intrusive as that drawing, she had said nothing. Her calmness felt… almost too much.
It couldn’t be because of the mark, right?
No—Sui Yu didn’t believe that. Even if she had marked Shen Jueshu, that woman didn’t strike her as someone who would submit so easily. So, if it wasn’t the mark… then what was it?
No way… Could it be that she was just too charming?
Sui Yu chuckled self-deprecatingly in her mind. Of course, she was just joking—she didn’t actually believe Shen Jueshu would fall for her.
“You… why did you follow me?” Sui Yu asked. This person was far too bold about her stalking—there wasn’t the slightest hint of embarrassment on her face.
Shen Jueshu finally turned her gaze toward Sui Yu and replied casually, “Oh, I was planning to go to work today, but when I saw how sneaky you were being, I got curious about what you were up to. So I followed you and found out you came back to the old mansion.”
Sui Yu: “…”
She stared at her with an expression that screamed, Do you really expect me to believe that?
Not bothered in the least, Shen Jueshu just curled her lips into a faint smile and said nothing more.
She wasn’t going to explain, and Sui Yu couldn’t force her. Still, she felt a bit frustrated. Every time she faced Shen Jueshu, she felt like she lost all her strength. She couldn’t say much, didn’t dare show her true expressions, and even one glare from her could make Sui Yu flinch. It made her feel utterly useless.
Noticing Sui Yu’s sullen look, Shen Jueshu said in a flat tone, “You really need to work on your awareness. We followed you the entire way here, and you didn’t notice a thing. If someone with bad intentions had been after you, you’d be dead before you even realized it.”
After all, there were people out there capable of all kinds of dirty tricks. If today had been a planned car crash, someone as unguarded as Sui Yu would have had little chance of surviving.
“Besides you, who else would want to kill me…” Sui Yu muttered under her breath.
Shen Jueshu: “…I can hear you.”
“Oh.” Sui Yu responded indifferently. If she heard, she heard—what, was Sui Yu wrong?
Shen Jueshu: “…”
Looking at Sui Yu’s nonchalant attitude, Shen Jueshu couldn’t help but think she knew her well. She had wanted her dead at one point.
But now, things were different. Compared to wanting her dead, she wanted to uncover the secrets behind her changes even more.
Watching Shen Jueshu wander around the room, Sui Yu finally asked, exasperated, “Aren’t you going to the office?”
Why was she still hanging around here? With her here, Sui Yu couldn’t search properly for anything.
“No rush,” Shen Jueshu replied coolly.
Sui Yu: “…You may not be in a rush, but I am!”
She was practically fuming. Shen Jueshu was just strolling around, peering at everything like she was about to find some hidden treasure. What on earth was she looking for that even made her—the infamous workaholic—skip work?
“This place is filthy; it’s not suitable for someone like you. What if your clothes get dirty?” Sui Yu tried to persuade her gently, like trying to shoo away a very elegant but very stubborn statue.
“If they do, you can just buy me a few new outfits,” Shen Jueshu said without a care.
Sui Yu: “…” Thick-skinned much?!
You decide to stay here and get dirty, and now I have to buy you clothes?
“Fine, then. You stay here and look around all you want. I’m going downstairs.” Sui Yu gave up and left her there, heading down to the first-floor living room. As she sat on the couch, she remained speechless and confused about Shen Jueshu’s bizarre behavior today.
Upstairs, Shen Jueshu stood quietly in front of the wall, lost in thought. She raised a finger and traced the hateful words carved into it, her expression hard to read. Maybe she needed to dig deeper into Sui Yu’s past. Even the old Sui Yu had too many secrets she’d never known about.
“Miss, please have some tea.”
As Sui Yu sat in the hall, the butler arrived at just the right time, bringing a cup of tea and placing it gently before her, then standing respectfully nearby.
Sui Yu opened her eyes and looked at the butler, her mind quickly searching through memories. “Uncle Li, how many years have you been with our family?”
According to the novel’s content, Uncle Li was a Beta. Many years ago, the old master had saved him and later allowed him to stay and work in the household. Over the years, he had managed everything meticulously and cared for the family with unwavering loyalty.
“Miss, it’s been thirty-two years now,” Uncle Li replied with a gentle smile. The wrinkles at the corners of his eyes softened his expression.
Sui Yu curved her lips into a slight smile. “Uncle Li’s been in this house longer than I’ve been alive.”
“That’s right. I watched you grow up from a tiny bundle into the Alpha you are now, even married and settled. Time really does fly,” Uncle Li said, his voice full of nostalgia.
Sui Yu didn’t respond to that. Instead, she asked, “Since you’ve been here so long, you must know the truth behind why my mother killed… my other mother, don’t you?”
