- Luring Her to Take the Bait
- Chapter 15 - Taking It To Heart. It Was Simply Quite Bad Too Cute.
“Yebao, the day after tomorrow is my and Susu’s one-week wedding anniversary. What’s the schedule for that day?”
Pei Wenjin twirled a pen in her hand. Ye Zhen placed a bone china cup by her side; it was filled with a deep brown liquid that was bubbling with tiny gasps of air.
That’s right—it was Cola.
The little CEO had given Susu a bouquet of roses today. Susu had smiled, and as a result, Pei Wenjin was in high spirits, suddenly struck by the whim to drink Cola out of a bone china cup.
Ye Zhen stood before the desk, hands behind her back, her expression calm as she reported the work schedule. Pei Wenjin only knitted her brows slightly at the tightly packed work hours.
“And then, in the evening,” at this point, Ye Zhen lifted her eyelids to glance at Pei Wenjin. Pei Wenjin blinked and tilted her head. Ye Zhen continued: “The young lady from Group C has invited you to watch a play in Nancheng.”
Leaning her chin on her hand, Pei Wenjin froze for a moment and let out an “ah.” Her delicate brows furrowed tightly. “When did this happen? How come I didn’t know?”
“Half a month ago. You agreed to it.”
“Can I cancel it now?” Pei Wenjin asked urgently, her brow tinged with anxiety. “I want to accompany Susu. If I cancel on her this time, she’ll definitely be unhappy. I’ll treat her to dinner later.”
Ye Zhen looked at her with a faint gaze. After a moment of thought, she suddenly said, “How about you discuss it with Fu Su first? Your time can be adjusted, but she might not necessarily have the time.”
“Oh, right…” Pei Wenjin nodded slowly, her eyes suddenly lighting up. “Then let’s go find Susu for lunch today and discuss it then.”
“I want Fujian cuisine. Yebao, book a table at Heyue Food Court in advance. Set the delivery address to Susu’s law firm.”
“Understood.” Ye Zhen glanced at today’s schedule and made a note in her workbook. “We’ll head over after the auction ends at 11:30.”
Once the arrangements were settled, Ye Zhen left the CEO’s office to prepare for the auction. She happened to run into the Marketing Department Manager coming to report on work.
The man in the suit smiled fawningly. “Assistant Ye.”
Ye Zhen nodded faintly with a blank expression as a gesture of acknowledgment. However, after he entered the office, she didn’t leave immediately. Instead, she stood by the door and gently pushed it open a crack.
The dialogue between the two inside unfolded slowly. Occasionally, the sound of paper being violently whipped through the air could be heard, and the atmosphere tightened invisibly.
Until—
Slam!
It was the sound of a folder being thrown onto the desk. The little CEO’s patience had run out, followed immediately by a voice laced with anger.
“How was this KPI calculated?! Do it over!”
“It’s almost August, and we’re starting to prepare for this quarter, yet the reports for the last quarter aren’t even finished. What have you been doing all day!”
Pei Wenjin let out a scoff, her knuckles tapping the desk rhythmically. She shot him a glance, her voice dropping as she spoke slowly: “You haven’t been with the company for a short time. I won’t deny that your ability is excellent for you to reach the position of General Manager.”
“However,” Pei Wenjin paused, her upward gaze flashing with a hint of a threat, “you’ve let the promotion go to your head, haven’t you? If I catch you slacking off or harassing and oppressing female colleagues again, you can leave.”
“After all, the company doesn’t lack talent. The interns who just arrived did a better job on this quarter’s reports than you.”
“A high position means more responsibility—the capable do more work. It doesn’t mean more privileges. I don’t allow that here.”
Pei Wenjin’s upward gaze was one of looking down, a scrutiny.
The tall man stood there like a shivering quail. “I—I understand, CEO Pei. I will definitely do better from now on.”
“Send me a revised version before eleven today. If there’s another problem…” Pei Wenjin narrowed her eyes.
When the man came out and saw Ye Zhen standing at the door, he stammered “Assistant Ye” with a nervous expression and hurried down the staff elevator.
Ye Zhen tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and left nonchalantly.
She wondered to herself what Fu Su’s reaction would be if she saw this side of Pei Wenjin.
Regardless, she liked listening to the CEO scold people.
Since Ye Zhen was far too thorough and never made the slightest mistake, she rarely got to see the “puppy” bite people.
When Fu Su saw the message from Pei Wenjin about their one-week wedding anniversary, she couldn’t help but be stunned for a moment.
She even said she was coming over for lunch.
Hmm…
Fu Su pushed aside the documents at hand. Holding a lighter and a long, slender lady’s cigarette between her fingers, she stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. The window was open a crack. She slightly bent her right leg, resting her weight on her left, as she looked out at the neighboring building.
In truth, she could only see the sunlight reflected off the glass.
Fu Su lit the cigarette but didn’t smoke it; she just held it between her fingers. It had a cool orange scent. The spark flickered, and the smoke blurred her face, leaving her dark eyes unreadable.
Until the flame nearly reached the filter, she reached out to touch a damp leaf of a green radish plant. Rubbing her wet fingertips, she sat back at her desk, put out the cigarette, and picked up her phone to reply to Pei Wenjin.
[Okay.]
Originally, Fu Su intended to pick her up at the law firm entrance, but an urgent online meeting from Hong Kong suddenly cropped up. She had no choice but to have her assistant wait at the door.
Bai Yue followed Fu Su’s instructions and was waiting by the elevator before 11:30. She paced back and forth, staring intently at whoever was inside every time the elevator doors opened.
It was so rare; she had never seen Fu Su take something other than work so much to heart.
When Pei Wenjin appeared, her eyes lit up, recognizing her instantly.
Heh, sure enough, she was just as Fu Su described—dressed quite “flamboyantly.”
She wore a primrose yellow shoulder-strap camisole and a rainbow-striped knit cardigan. Rainbow beaded necklaces were layered over her fair neck. Beneath light blue denim shorts, her legs were slender but not thin, with muscular lines hugging the bone.
Not only was she wearing a rainbow, but even her chestnut curls had colored ribbons woven through them in a fishtail braid. It didn’t look childish; instead, it was bright and playful.
As soon as Pei Wenjin stepped out of the elevator, her eyes impatiently looked around. Her beautiful starry eyes were full of curiosity. Suddenly, someone stepped forward with stiff steps, hands clenched, her eyes filled with nervousness.
“You… you must be Miss Pei. I’m Sister Fu Su’s assistant; just call me Bai Yue. Sister Fu Su is in a meeting, she asked me to pick you up.”
Pei Wenjin’s eyes curved as she gave a bright, beaming smile. Bai Yue was a bit dazed as she heard her say: “Sorry to trouble you.”
“It’s fine. Let’s go to the lounge first. The meeting should be over soon.”
Hearing this, Pei Wenjin’s eyes instantly lit up. “Can I go take a look?”
Bai Yue: …?
Watch Sister Fu Su in a meeting? This… probably wasn’t against the rules, but the content of the meeting was strictly confidential.
Bai Yue gave a couple of awkward laughs and was about to tactfully refuse when a charming voice suddenly came from the side.
“Oh, the little princess is here. Want to see Fu Su in her meeting? Come on, follow me. Bai Yue, go get busy. I’ll take care of her.”
Following the voice, Pei Wenjin saw a mature and seductive face. She had an impression of her; she was the one who picked up Susu last time… was her name Si Wenyu?
She trotted over on her fair, straight legs and called out boldly, “Si Wenyu.”
“Hey, not bad, you remember my name.” Si Wenyu blinked her cat-like eyes with a flirtatious smile. “Let’s go, I’ll take you to Fu Su. But you can’t go in; you can only peek through the door from outside.”
“Okay, okay~”
The invisible tail behind Pei Wenjin wagged happily. When she saw Fu Su, it wagged even harder.
Si Wenyu only opened a section of the smart glass for her, allowing her to see the person but not the meeting content.
Pei Wenjin’s pink lips parted slightly. She didn’t care about looking unrefined while peeking; instead, she pressed herself hard against the glass door. Her eyes were sparkling as she stared fixedly at that slender figure. The little person in her heart was screaming!
Ahhh!
Susu looks so good in a grey pinstripe suit!
Abstinent! Intelligent! Charming!
Her side profile is so sharp, the bridge of her nose is so high, and her lips are so thin. So beautiful!
She’s so cold and professional while working, she doesn’t even smile. Only occasionally can I see her brow twitch. Every gesture exudes a sense of ease—she’s too cool!
Pei Wenjin couldn’t help but wiggle like a Corgi’s butt, her mouth stretching into a huge grin. Susu is so outstanding (Flowers blooming on her head).
Perhaps because the gaze was too burning, Fu Susuddenly glanced over and abruptly met Pei Wenjin’s large, bright eyes. Her fingertips resting on the computer suddenly froze.
Fu Su: …Uh, why is she here?
Seeing Fu Su look over, Pei Wenjin almost jumped on the spot. Her pupils shimmered as she whispered, “Susu, Susu, Susu, Susu!”
The meeting room was soundproof, so Fu Su naturally couldn’t hear her, but she could tell by her lip movements that she was calling her.
It was simply… quite bad.
Too cute.
Fu Su composed herself and withdrew her gaze, cleared her throat, and methodically continued the meeting.
However, across the door, Pei Wenjin’s eyes suddenly flashed. She stared unblinkingly at Fu Su, specifically at Fu Su’s bright red ears.
Ooh, why is she blushing~
She laughed secretly in her heart like a fox that had caught a scent.
Pei Wenjin waited until the meeting ended. She stood obediently by the door, suppressing the urge to peer in as Fu Su came out. That would be too unrefined, as almost everyone was looking at her.
Until she saw Fu Su—
“Susu!”
Joy flooded Pei Wenjin’s face. Like a puppy, she dashed over and threw herself onto Fu Su, softly hooking her arm. A sweet smile hung on her lips. “You’re done with your meeting~ You worked hard~ Let’s go eat~”
The crowd that was about to leave froze in their tracks. They turned back to stare at Fu Su in disbelief, their eyes fixed on the fair arm hooked into hers.
This… what was the situation with this person???
How did she dare to just go and grab the Ice Beauty’s arm!
Everyone held their breath, thinking Fu Su would surely pull away. No one could get close to Fu Su.
However, in the next second, a low, slightly raspy voice sounded in the air.
“Mm, let’s go.”
Watching the two walk away together, the crowd was like: ???
What on earth is going on! Who exactly is this person? To have such great capability as to make someone as cold as Fu Su so gentle!?
Suddenly, someone said weakly.
“She… is the CEO of Pei Group, Pei Wenjin.”
Once this was said, the person dressed like a rainbow looked a bit familiar.
“If that’s the case, could it be…”
They were all clever people. Their eyes darted around a few times, and they began to catch on.
“Sister Fu Su is dating the CEO of Pei Group!”
Coming to this conclusion, everyone went “Wow” and then “Hiss,” and began to whisper “plots.”
“Then do you think Sister Fu Su is the one on top or the one on the bottom?”
“The one on top, right?”
“But look at the muscle lines on the CEO’s arms, there’s no way she’s the one on the bottom…”
“Hmm… that makes sense.”
